Question about the roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

What exactly is the reason that note 2 ROMs aren't compatible with all note 2? If you can flash modem/radios and edit apns then why won't any ROMs work?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app

There is more than one "Note II" some of them have different hardware or are cmda instead of gsm ect. There are different sections for each version so if you go into the section for your specific phone all the roms should work. APN's/modems only go so far but they can enable you to use At&t(i317)/Canadian carrier(i317m) roms and in some cases International LTE (N7105) roms

Flashing a different modem/radio on your device! That isn't for your device, then you'll have yourself quite a bit of problems on your hands. That's why they are different Rom's, for different devices!! For all the other countries!!
But look here!
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Enter your device model# up in the top right. And you'll see all the different Rom's for the different places!!

But if I flashed a Verizon or sprint ROM and while still in recovery flashed my modem (the modem for my phone of course)shouldn't that allow service for the phone. Besides that stuff what is so different file wise that they aren't universal.
BTW I haven't checked the links out yet I will when I get off work.

Ok what you need to UNDERSTAND is that if you flash something that had the modem included! Then you'll be looking at a very expense paperweight:banghead:!!! If no modem then possible you can take that ride??? But personally I wouldn't flash nothing that's not for my phone OKAY!!!
But do as you please to do, it's your device.
Good luck with your choices

I don't understand why so many people insist on flashing roms not found in our very own development section. Those are there for a reason.

Think inside the RootBox!

gotcha.....I'm not trying to flashing anything that isn't for my phone I was just curious as to what the reason was that they aren't all compatible....thanks for the schooling lol

CPU architecture. ...modem frequency, framework difference, button function, APN, RIL, screen drivers, audio, wifi ,...
You get the point. ..
Difference can be fatally different. .. g

You can flash ROMS from at&t. Might have some reception issues due to radio but afaik you can download another radio for a fix. Just confirm that before listening to me, I'm far from an expert.

Yes you can but you wont get any reception and flashing a modem wont fix it since its more than the modem thats missing for the n7100 Rooms to work on or phone.

Flash ROMS on other variants (Note 2 /Note II)

I didnt find a thread on this so I'm going to make one. I have an i317 and was wondering if we can flash other rooms from other carriers including the international forums if we flash the modem and the kernel. Because not a lot of devs say there Rom works on other variants

Yes this shouldn't be an issue. As all CDN note 2 are i317m.
MIUIv5
Also if I have an attorney note but am using tmibile service what rs and kernel would I flash ?

Kernel does not effect carrier compatibility. I wouldn't change the radio just enter the tmo apn's

Quick question: can I load a T-Mobile ROM on a Verizon s3?

I switched to T-Mobile today. I'm using my Verizon s3. I have data and can make calls and text. And I only get 2g....which is know is because of the radio in the phone. But I'm just wondering if I can put a T-Mobile ROM on my Verizon s3 since I have their service and what not. Its for nothing more than an esthetic thing for me.

Probably not. Not totslly sure. I know att roms are interchangeable, but the lack of anything about Verizon here makes me think you'd have problems. I'd stick to the Verizon forum tbh.

I wouldn't try it tbh.

I think you can do it but you need to flash a Verizon kernel or else it won't boot.. I know there was a user here that tried it but don't know if he ever got it working
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
If you have to flash the kernel to make it work, you'll probably also have to copy over the modules and maybe other files too.

If we are going into that I think its best to just port it instead. It will boot and work without any (or that many) errors or issues.

I would think so. You need to flash modem and kernel separately right after flashing rom.

Someone in my post asking "how happy are you with n2" mentioned that t-mobile users are facing signal drops because its not official 4.3. I cant decide whether to buy att n2 and unlock it for the roms or just get tmobile and flash att roms. Give it a try.

I'm using 4.3 miscom's custom rom just trying to change my LTE band, i used to change it from the service mode main menu. Maybe you're right it might be the rom itself
What rom are you using so i can try that one instead?

Yep. That is a port from international rom. Like Bajanman said. Please provide a screen shot depicting modem. Looking for Baseband version.
We may be able to tweak build.prop. Maybe.

Yep, it was the previous rom, i flashed skynote vanilla and now i have it back, the modem it's a I317m modem which is for my variant
I'm thinking you need to flash the J2 modem since this was the last one that wasn't RAT restricted.
