Ok, not really specific to HTC One, but thats the Phone i have and i am annoyed.
Just bought a USB stick from Harvey Norman in Western Australia today. One of the newer ones that will plug into a computer usb slot and a mobile phone micro usb. Plugged it into my HTC one and it mounted fine.
Then I stuck it in the computer and my AV automatically scanned it and found that the Video Downloader software already on it was actually Trojan Win32.Hider.gh.
This is a brand new stick straight out of the bubble pack. AMICROE OTG USB 2.0 8GB.
No prob for me as i will format it and purge the infection, but annoying. Rang the store to let them know so will be interesting to see if they pull them off the shelves.
When i looked up the infection, apparently you have to run the program for it to do anything malicious. Its a .exe so it would not have run or done anything on my phone when it was plugged in.
Anyhow, since these USB OTG sticks are now available in the mainstream, people should keep an eye out and make sure they are conscious of the risks with a new one. Was fairly cheap. AU$ 14.95. Has the USB plug on one end, and micro USB on the other with plastic caps that will probably get lost. Oh, formatted as FAT32.

Hi folks,
i purchased a new usb cable today. its retractable, called 'Sync "N" Charge'. it is essentially the same connections as the stock usb connection cable.
the problem is when i try to connect my (Imate Jam) to my PC(winXPpro) it either freezes my pc, or puts up this msg.
USB device not recognised, one of the usb devices has malfunctioned, click here(opens up systems properties).
It does charge the Jam. well atleast the orange charge indicator lights up(i havent checked for actual charge).
The device drivers for my Jam are fine seeing as it still works when i connect with my original cable.
my original cable works fine, even if i switch straight back to it after trying to connect with the new cable.
I think the cable may be wired incorrectly eg postive and neg prolly fine but the data pins are screwie some how, sound like a reasonable guess?
Is there something else that im not thinking of/dont know about that could be causing the problem?.
bleh just typed all that and answered my own question. the data pins in the new plug are a little bit shorter than the power plug. I use a silicone case on my Jam which stops the plug from pushing in all the way by like 0.25mm. took off the case and bingo problem fixed.
I hate when that happens.
Ok well i might as well say that its a nifty little piece of hardware now that i got it working.
Which leads me another question, the reason i got this new cable was to be able to leave it in my bag and pull it out when i wanted to use my Jam like a 1gb usb card(1gb sd card). the times when i wanted to do this would be at university.
is there a way to make a pc recognise the jam like a usb drive instead of a pocketpc upon connection? i wont beable to install activesync on university pc's.
Thanks
Speedn
Can you even do this? I mean use a normal USB stick as extra storage, going on my hols for 2 weeks and wanna take some movies to watch (family holiday so no parties, just early nights)...anyway, I only have a 8 gig micro sd which is near full so want to know if a cable exists that would allow me to plug my stick drive into my desire, thanks.
You sure can.
Search for USB host mode for desire.
Well yes it is possible as mentioned, but it requires a non-standard cable/converter, as the desire does apply power on the usb like a computer does, but a mod have been made. It require some special kernel as well i believe, but it should be doable though far more complicated than just buying a larger/spare sd-card.
Previously my USB port was working fine and mass storage was working correctly. Now I can't connect to my laptop and it says USB Device Not Recognized. I wiped out my laptop and it still doesn't work. I've looked around and nothing seems to solve my problem. I'm on SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.2 and running Windows 7 32-bit. Can anyone solve my problem?
Are you using the stock samsung cable? If so ditch it for anything else. Their stock cable flakes out...

I'm using the stock cable. where would you recommend to get another one?
i have been dealing with this problem for about a week and a half. I never thought it was the USB. I borrowed my brothers blackberry usb cable and it worked like a charm. Thanks.

I have tons laying around from various other devices, any Micro USB should do. If you don't have any from other devices then any place like radio shack, office max/depot, staples, microcenter, bestbuy.... should carry them, probably even walmart and target in the electronics section. You are looking for a micro USB cable.
You don't need anything fancy(expensive) that's gold plated, high speed, etc... Just try to find something that looks a little less flimsy than the one Samsung gave us.
1. Buy this
2. Plug phone into PC
3. ?????
4. CEELLLEEEBRATE GOOD TIMES COME ON!
Just use a different cable. The cable that comes with the phone is a pos.... How i know?? My girlfriend almost threw the phone and the laptop over the window.. when she got tired of being trying she asked me and I just got the cable from my Evo and voila!!! Its working!!!
Also I had issues if it was a case USB and not one directly on the mobo.
I just used my sisters cable and now it works like a charm.
With the announcement that ICS will support USB Mass Storage, I was wondering if anyone had found a Micro USB card reader similar in size to the USB Jig shown in this thread. I saw one a long time ago that was used to flash phones of a specific make, but I can't remember where I saw it. Can someone help me?
PS, I know this is a question, but I figured it fell under Accessories. Please don't burninate me.
Do you mean something like this one, http://www.amazon.com/elago-Mobile-...FKR8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1322087237&sr=8-2 ?
Sort of, but a micro USB port, not a full size USB. Like the port on the bottom of the phone.
Well i don't think they make things like that for consumers, but from that video hey seems to have just used a regular microUSB cable.
As I said, I saw one out there for a specific phone maker that they use for flashing. I can't imagine that someone in China would not make them for sale. I'll keep digging, I guess. Thanks for the response, though.
wait, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...ccessories&hash=item3cbb7b1e8c#ht_2377wt_1163
is that what you're looking for?
No, but that's the size I'm looking for. An MSDHC reader that size with a micro USB plug like that has.
I have that on the way to put in the toolkit, though. A USB jig comes in handy.
I thought that announcement was that ICS, having usb mass storage support would mean that it's like how current android roms are. When you plug into the computer you can put it into usb mode to transfer files. It was previously thought that ICS would not have that and would require transfer thru MTP protocols only. I dont think it means you could just attach storage via micro usb such as external sd/hard drive.
No, they're talking about hooking up external storage. Someone was talking on Reddit about hooking up a dongle and a USB flash drive to their phone and how it worked for extra storage when they were going on a flight.
I believe what you are trying to do requires usb host support but I know what I'm saying is not the answer you are looking for so, I'll leave this be for now. Good luck in your search.
I'm pretty sure sure our phone does have host mode support. So you can get a USB host mode cable on ebay for $2 shipped, and attach a standard USB drive. Not the compact solution you are looking for, but it will work.
You are correct. It's not exactly what I want, but it would work. Thanks.
Did you find such a thing (micro-usb to microSD) ?
I have been searching crazy lately (like you, I can't believe that some manufacturers did not had this good idea ?!), but nothing !!!
And I am about to DIY one, based on the following example (but with micro-usb):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713914
I think, I am going to start with something like:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5x-Angle-USB...ltDomain_0&hash=item27bc0b1e99#ht_2265wt_1155
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313271
The final goal would be to create a micro-usb to microSD adaptator as small as possible ...
Any better idea ?
Has anyone come across either of these items that worked well. I used to have a micro USB flash drive with USB on one side and micro USB on the other and loved being able to store much more data on that and transfer it when I needed but haven't taken the plunge to get one yet. Has anyone got a review on a decent one.
Also I am looking for a USB Type C card reader. I ordered this one in the picture below but when I plug it into my phone it tries to say that it's a wet plug and doesn't work. Anyone have any luck.
Also I'm just looking for cool phone Accessories if anyone has come across some. Power packs, anything.

If you're talking about that best buy one then that things awesome. I would often share cool things with people like cracked Pandora or Spotify, etc. I hope they make another one with your C on one end, and micro USB on the other.
I'm sure it will be made later on as type C connectors get more common.
