Previously my USB port was working fine and mass storage was working correctly. Now I can't connect to my laptop and it says USB Device Not Recognized. I wiped out my laptop and it still doesn't work. I've looked around and nothing seems to solve my problem. I'm on SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.2 and running Windows 7 32-bit. Can anyone solve my problem?
Are you using the stock samsung cable? If so ditch it for anything else. Their stock cable flakes out...

I'm using the stock cable. where would you recommend to get another one?
i have been dealing with this problem for about a week and a half. I never thought it was the USB. I borrowed my brothers blackberry usb cable and it worked like a charm. Thanks.

I have tons laying around from various other devices, any Micro USB should do. If you don't have any from other devices then any place like radio shack, office max/depot, staples, microcenter, bestbuy.... should carry them, probably even walmart and target in the electronics section. You are looking for a micro USB cable.
You don't need anything fancy(expensive) that's gold plated, high speed, etc... Just try to find something that looks a little less flimsy than the one Samsung gave us.
1. Buy this
2. Plug phone into PC
3. ?????
4. CEELLLEEEBRATE GOOD TIMES COME ON!
Just use a different cable. The cable that comes with the phone is a pos.... How i know?? My girlfriend almost threw the phone and the laptop over the window.. when she got tired of being trying she asked me and I just got the cable from my Evo and voila!!! Its working!!!
Also I had issues if it was a case USB and not one directly on the mobo.
I just used my sisters cable and now it works like a charm.

i can't connect my sgs2 to USB storage. when i plug in the usb cable to my computer and phone it will charge but nothing else happen. i had stock rom before but are currently using jug 4.0. i thought it was the rom so i downgraded to 3.69. still the same problem. i mean i can do anything with the phone just can't let my computer detect the phone. i tried to reinstall the driver, nothing works. please help!
Is your cable a samsung branded one? I had that same problem but with stock rom. I used an LG branded cable and the phone would connect to the computer and charge, but would not go into USB mode.
yeah, i am using the one that came with the phone, i guess i will try to use a different one. it was working fine before, don't know why it just stopped!
This has happened a few time for me. Sometimes the phone has only needed a reboot, the wire definitely plays a big role... I bought some cheap cables that didn't work at all... some of the older roms wouldn't show USB connected unless drivers were installed (kies). An issue I've more recently unveiled is after using an MHL adapter sometimes the USB will connect for 30-60 seconds before unmounting storage again. Hope that helps
My SGSII HercuDom needs more w00t. It always needs more w00t!
I had the same problem on a stock phone (purchased in late Oct from T-Mobile store in Arizona). I would connect it to the computer and it would charge but would not recognize the USB function (for data transfer or modem use).
Took it back to T-Mobile and they overnighted me a new one for no charge. New one works fine.

Cant charge or connect to USB
Hello, i just bought a samsung sgh i777 and when i try to connect it to charge it, wheter is on the wall or computer, a battery starts to flash, if i disconnect it, the phone starts as if you are turning it on. So far i've tried: Change the battery, change the charger several times, put factory settings and still the same problem, can anyone help me?
Thanks,
FS
Alright, so when plugging my phone into my new (literally bought today) netbook, nothing happens.
I installed the Samsung USB drivers as well as Kies. And when plugging the phone in afterwards, nothing happens. From my understanding, whenever plugging in a device into the PC, a bubble on the bottom right hand side would pop up saying "Installing device hardware" or something along those lines.
But for this netbook, nothing. Nothing pops up at all. It's like it doesn't even know a device is plugged in. Although, my phone does charge from the connection and that's about it.
I've used 4 different cables. Two generic cables, Energizer cable, and a RocketFish cable. I was successful with the Energizer cable when I used my friend's laptop to ODIN back to EL29 from the FH13 update.
I'm pretty much stumped right now. Not sure what's going on. Considering returning the laptop and exchanging it for another one.
Have you tried turning on USB debugging?

Yes I have.
The netbook will recognize my flash drive though. But not the phone. :|
Welp, went back and returned for Asus laptop. The thing recognized everything. I guess the netbook wasn't meant to be.

Go into your dialer and type ##8778# switch to cp and youll see that your device will start downloading the drivers then you should be in business sorry if I put cp wrong long day but I think thats it there should be 3 settings there the one your on cp and all I think so once your done make sure you go back in and change back afterwards or your sd card wont read right. Hope this helps if so say thanks
There is a known issue where the USB port "breaks" somehow. I just experienced this, so it may be your issue also.
Troubleshoot:
drivers
different cords
different devices
Which you have done so it's most likely your phones USB port
Since i got my Note II, whenever i got insert the micro usb cable to charge the phone and try to use the phone just a little bit of pull and the micro usb will fall out..its like really loose anyone with such problems...?? I realyl do not want to return my note II since i already rooted it..and custom rom and kernel..
I have the same problem, and there is nothing to do about it unless to send it back

Have you tried other USB cables? I have the same problem with my stock USB cable too and thought there might be something wrong with my phone, but then I tried a different USB cable and it held on well.

This was my experience as well. Try other cables before you swap out your phone! :good:
The same with my cable. I guess they did it on purpose, that whenever your phone is 'tugged' the usb cable will be released instead of your movement being violently restricted by the force of the cable, which may cause you to drop your phone.
Any way, i bought a 3rd party flat USB cable which length exceeds 3 - 4 times the original cable , and it fits tightly in my phone's USB port. So i believe it is cable related.
I have the same problem, I guess it's just the one they sent. Oh well.
I did buy another cable, however I noticed that charging becomes extremely slow with it. I'm hoping to be able to find a better one that can support the higher charge needed for the phone, in the meantime I'll be leaving the phone down while charging I guess.

+1 same thing for me too. I was so worried thought it was a problem with the charging port but it seems the problem is with the charger cable. Using other cable is no issues.
Obviously it pops out very easy. I'm on my 3rd Samsung Micro USB cable, all are same.
But then I've tried my friends Galaxy Ace cable and it was fine. So you just buy a different Micro USB cable which will have same 2A output like stock one.

I. too, was worried when i first got the fone.... but it's the stock cable... tried another cable from another brand/manufacturer and it fits perfect.
I seem to be quite lucky. My stock cable fits nice and snug. I can even dangle the phone upside down holding only the cable and it wont come out unless I swing it or tug it harder lol
If you compare the stock cable with other cables you'll see that the plug on the stock cable is usually shorter than other cables by a millimetre or 2 so the little prongs on the plug probably arent grabbing onto the slots of the phone
Mine 2. I just stick blue tack on it

Yup, same here. I find the cable that came with my wife's Kindle is the best fit - needs a real pull to detach it!
Just got a brand new Samsung Galaxy SII T989 from T-Mobile this week, it really is a great phone, only I have a single problem.
The phone charges, it functions properly generally speaking (calls, texts, camera, wi-fi,etc...) but as soon as I connect it to my computer it freaks out.
It acts as if I were disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable 2 times a second. I can hear the phone making the beeping sound it makes once you connect it to the USB every few seconds and in my computer (Which is running Windows 8 x64, just in case.) I can see the "Safely remove hardware symbol pop up and disappear a few times a second as well.
This is really frustrating... I love to take pictures and videos and edit them... I'd also love to copy some music over as well...
So far I've determined it can be the cable, bad drivers, or the phone itself, I just hope it's one of the first two.

Try re installing the correct drivers or switching the usb hub. If that does not work it's most likely the usb cable, swap it for a different one and you should be fine considering you bought the phone new.
Or you got a phone with a bad motherboard which would be crazy considering its new but that kinda sounds like the problem I had

Alright cool, but how does one find currently installed drivers when the device isn't plugged in?

Ok, does it get better or worse if you hold the cable with your finger when it is plugged in to the computer and phone and move it around a bit on the phone end? If so, I even got a Nexus 7 brand new from Google that the charge cable phone end was bad and would not make a good connect and I had to use a different cable and it works fine with my tablet.
If you use the same cable in your AC charger and on the computer then prolly not the cable.
It could be something in Win8 if it is trying to scan your USB port [like maybe a whacked anti-virus].
Have you tried a different USB port on your computer to see if maybe the one you were trying to use is bad itself?
If using a USB hub between your computer and the phone try removing the hub from the equation and connect directly to the computers USB port.

I am using a HUB on a Razer Keyboard that I've always used BUT now that you mention it my webcam had the same problem. It wouldn't work with the HUB on the keyboard. I'll try another USB slot (My computer's other USB slots aren't very accessible which is why I've hesitated to try another slot.)
I don't use anti-virus and yes, the cable works perfectly fine on the AC USB to Power adapter it brings.

I love you. It worked. It's the USB hub which doesn't allow much power to go through to the connected device. Thank yo so much.
Hey all,
I know this is a common issue and it's all over XDA, but no one seems to have this issue with Mac, which eliminates the "try reinstalling the drivers" troubleshooting that many find solves the problem.
I never really plug in my Nexus to anything other than an outlet, because music is synced wirelessly and I never need it for sending files.
Lately she's been really slow, so I wanted to flash back to stock now that 4.2.2 is available for the toro natively. Lo and behold, the Android USB app for connecting the Nexus a la MTP couldn't connect, even after switching USB ports and unlocking the phone as you're supposed to do. But hey, I've had that issue with certain ROMs before.. Unfortunately, the issue carried into Fastboot, where the Macbook can't pick it up via the ./adb and ./fastboot devices command. After several reboots from the Macbook and GalNex, I STILL get the Fastboot Command Read Error (-2147483647).
I don't have another computer to try this on, but I can say I rooted my friend's GalNex just a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't updated SDK Manager (well I did just now to try to fix the issue) since, but it worked fine on his GalNex...
I just got the Nexus last October, so I guess shipping it off to Samsung is.. possible, but I'd rather use this as an excuse to get a GSIV. Anyway, can anyone offer any suggestions, maybe someone out there with a Mac had the same issue? It doesn't seem like the micro USB port would get outta whack so soon, I bought it new last October.
Thaaaaaaankkksss!
I have a Mac, sort of similar situation.. the cable that I have for it didn't really work with the computer at all..
Tried another cable, and it seemed to pick up the device in MTP if the cable was at a slight angle, which pointed to a bad port.
Anyway, I was restoring to stock 4.2.2 and it just wouldn't go past the file transfer.. sometimes it would stop on transferring system.img and sometimes on recovery.img; and sometimes not even get picked up on the fastboot mode at all.
Plugged into a PC, kept the USB at required angle throughout the process and it worked..
It's usually the USB cable that's the problem.. using an original Samsung cable now (not the one that came with it) and it works regardless of what position the cable is inserted in, which is very odd.
Also, my GNex always charges on USB mode.. even when plugged in to AC; so you might want to look for another USB cable
hope this helped
