I bought a used phone off ebay (still under warranty) that was flawless condition. I checked the ESN and it was good, so I kept it. Today I check to see what color the water damage indicator, and it's not even there at all. I have a pebble blue phone, and there isn't any white strip there. It's just plastic. As for the phone itself, it works fine. I installed a custom ROM and some apps crash, but I think thats software related. Other than that, it works fine.
Check on the battery it self that's were mine is. I thought the same thing then realized it was on there instead of the phone should be a little white sticker.

I believe there is one on the motherboard as well to avoid people just swapping batteries.

How can I tell if my warranty is going to be turned down for water damage? I have never had it in the water before, but the sticker on the back has the red crosses it.
I'm pretty sure that circle goes all dark red if you get water on it

You are right. the sticker will go all red or all pink depending on who made it. its suppose to have the X's in it.
sorry, didn't notice I posted that in the Dev forum...thanks for moving.
Wouldn't you know if you get your phone wet? I think you already know the answer to your question here I mean tray now.

In the retail stores we typically don't go by the liquid indicators because frequently they're inaccurate. We usually look for signs of corrosion, condensation or just plain liquid in the device.
A good way to dry your device out is to put it in a sealed ziplock bag with some rice...it works! Revived my girlfriend's iPhone and camera after both became submerged when a water bottle broke in her purse.
The "sticker" is the same litmus paper you use in chemistry- it changes colors with the presence of moisture. When I worked for a regional wireless carrier in my area and someone came in for a warranty replacement, that was the first thing we checked. There are usually 2; one in/around the battery compartment and one on the battery itself. I've also noticed lately some manufacturers put them under the phones housing. I've seen them change just from having your phone in the bathroom when you take a shower. Also, if it gets wet but all seems well, you're not in the clear yet. Sometimes it'll be ok at first but will eventually creep through the phone and corrode terminals/connections. Hope this helps. Its against my religion to use paragraphs.

Aren't most insurance things covering everything except lost or stolen phones?

The iPhone 3 is notorious for being overly sensitive to humidity; simply having your phone on you while you're sweating can get the sensor wet, as can having it in a humid environment such as a steamy bathroom. I haven't heard of anything quite this bad with other manufacturers, but the locations of the moisture indicators was also suboptimal; of the 4(?) in the phone, one is inside the headphone jack, while the other is next to the charging port.

Well...the thing about insurance is they want to pay out as little as possible. I've heard of some mobile insurance companies not covering moisture damage. Make sure you read the terms of coverage carefully before you start paying for something that may not help you at all.
Hi everyone, I ended up calling T-Mobile about my G2 because the LCD flickers when the brightness is turned down (I've seen other posts about this so I'm luckily not alone) and I should be getting my new phone next week. I was worried about being charged one of those out of warranty fees on my phone because there are a few marks on it? I'm not rooted, all the water damage stickers are still white, and the void sticker is in tact. The grey phone casing has a little damage because I have the T-Mobile gel case the clips scrape the phone when you take it off. I was wondering what anyone's experiences are with sending your phone back? I value everyone's opinion and I'm also curious. I added a couple of pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. Thanks for any input!
The battery door has a few marks but they aren't dents, it just looks strange.
Also, I've googled and it seems like when tmobile sends me a phone and not the insurance company, I get a refurbished phone? Instead of a brand new one? I don't care I'm just wondering.
Well yes T-Mobile will send you New or like new phone. Also dont worry about the damage. As long as the phone is not in parts.

They will send you a refurb. It won't have a battery or battery door. Make sure everything works on the one they send you. I had to get 3 of them before I got one that worked 100%. The first one didn't have the holder for the sd card and the second one the touchscreen didn't work at the top when in portrait. I could never pull down the bar. Check EVERYTHING!

My speaker and mic stopped working, I was in the shower and some water got on the screen, but it didnt seem like it went in. The two water damage indicators are fine, no sign of water damage.
I called and they are sending me a refurbished phone, but said if they detect any water damage they will charge me with $300. I have insurance, but it will cost $100 for a new phone, but if the phone is malfunctioning because of something else I don't want to pay $100.
There is what looks like rust on the right side of the sim card. Can anyone identify it for me?
the water damage indicator should be this little white sticker behind your battery. The thing in the image just looks like dirt to be honest, you could always use some cyber clean to clean the thing up.
make sure to check the little round white water damage sticker behind your battery. if it is white its ok. if it is red, then you're dead.
The normal indicators are white with pink x's on them which is normal. Its not dirt though. How extensively do they check the phone?
There's also one inside the phone, just below the camera. Not that I've ever seen it

Hello!
I recently order my Note II from Expansys and the first thing I noticed when I was taking everything out of the box and putting the batter in the phone is the water indicator sticker. I don't know if they change styles, but I am used to plain white stickers, and if moisture gets in the phone it either turns to red or red Xs. Immediately I noticed that this sticker has blue Xs in it, and I don't know if that is the style now that changes to red when it gets wet, or if it has already indicated wetness.
I called them immediately and the guy put me on hold to go check the other phones they have around and said they are all like that. Of course I'm not satisfied with that answer and am coming to you guys. Also, the box showed no signs of tampering that anyone else had been in the box.
Thanks!
Mine looks like exactly the same, so don't worry

But is that really the new design of them? Seems kinda silly.
S3 are same, they change the stickers...

Hi,
I dropped my phone from my truck on my last run at work. I have display damage in the middle of the phone. When you touch the phone the damage spreads.
But the glass screen (Gorrilla?) is not broken or chipped or anything. I called T-Mobile. Because the glass was not chipped, I'm being charged $5 for a replacement phone. They said I should get it on Tuesday. Hopefully!
T-Mobile says they will confirm that the glass wasn't chipped when I send the original back. No worries there.
But the question is. My phone is rooted. I will be using Kies to restore the phone back to stock.
Do you think I"ll be okay.
I don't have an answer for this question, but instead a question for you, do you work in ems?

I had a similar situation to you.
I dropped my phone on the sidewalk, and while there was some physical damage to the side of the phone, but the glass wasn't damaged at all. However, the actual AMOLED display under the glass actually died over a span of 24hrs, slowly, in a circular pattern, starting from where some of the physical damage was.
Sent directly to an authorized repair place, they deemed since no glass was broken, screen shouldn't have died, so replaced it 100% free, even fixing the actual damage to the exterior as well. All under manufacturers warranty.
As long as you get the phone back to stock, you should have no problems. I didn't even have root, so I'm sure if you get rid of it, you'll be fine.
I am from Canada though. Can't really see that changing anything though.
Good luck with the replacement!
