Is there a way to remove the Long press Numbers and Symbols from the standard Samsung Keyboard?
What is weird is that I've seen videos on Youtube with clean Samsung keyboard, with no long press symbols or character on the letters or numbers, so I do not understand why my phone has those, see attached print screen. "+ on the Q", "= on the E", "@ on the A", etc.
Thanks
Please can somebody confirm if the T-Mobile phone comes with long press numbers and symbols on the keyboard by default?, I've seen multiple marketing video with clean keyboard, so maybe the international version of the phone uses a different keyboard
Hell ... I need secondary symbols but they disappeared
My samsung keyboard is all white ... without symbols ... just letters
and I need the symbols ... dont know why they wont show up
If anyone have solution then let me know

You need root and system mount r/w. Go to /system/csc and remove this line from feature.xml and/or others.xml files:
Code:
<CscFeature_Sip_EnableSymbolInSecondary>en_US</CscFeature_Sip_EnableSymbolInSecondary>
Or just remove "en_US" leaving the tags value empty. Reboot and enjoy clean keyboard.

Hi.. My symbols dissappeared too. Also my little arrow to accept a word. Did you ever figure this out?
Do you use xposed mods? I installed Wanam xposed mod yesterday and seen my symbols were gone. I checked to make sure the Enable symbols was check marked after I change some of the other settings and they came back.

You have to edit or replace /system/csc/feature.xml
If you have installed new rom then get its feature.xml from zip file and overwrite it with proper permissions,
Otherwise you have to edit feature.xml
Thats how I done it.

Great ROM but I am having an issue with slide-out keyboard layout. The letters themselves all type correctly (both in small and CAPS) but when I use bottom left shift key to access punctuation some of the symbols are in the wrong place.
For Example:
Top row letters are:
QWERTYUIOP
Symbols listed on these keys are:
[email protected]/#123()
Symbols typed actually are:
[email protected]?/#123()
Thus the first 3 key symbols are incorrect in first row, there are 4 incorrect in the second and one in the third. Software keyboard works correctly.
Has anyone else had this problem?
OTHER QUICK UNRELATED QUESTION:
I really like the HTC Today Home Screen with the weather but my city is not listed on drop-down menu list. Is there a way to add a city not on list – on accuweather.com you can add city by zip.

the layout needs to be changed to USA.. load HTCustom 1.5 and change the layout to English or search on here for a 8525 WXML keyboard.cab
Thanx Jakeypoo
I am a bit of a newbee here. Can you give me more spicific instructions including where to find the correct cab file?
install, softreset, bam
No change?
At the risk of being stupid...this is what I did:
Extracted files to desktop
Moved them to a folder in my documents in the 8525 (8 total files)
clicked on setup file
I saw a list of characteristics run
softboot
bam...no change?
no... copy the .cab file to your phone and click on it thru file explorer on the phone and it will install..
Worked!
Thank you so much!
Wow
Says a lot for this site when someone is able to get a rom, and flash their phone without even knowing how to run a .cab file. I am impressed.
Second that one bro. Cab file? well ive never heard of such a thing.
lol for real
i couldnt ignore this one..

Hey everyone,
I cant seem to work out how to get auto complete to work when using the hardware keyboard.
It worked on my TYTN II and i really liked the feature as i am entering service log numbers and i dont have to look at my book each time to see what the next number is.
Any ideas how to get this going>
I have set in advanced config for word suggestion to 4 (it was on 0) and in input options > options > xt9 settings > i ticked word completion in abc mode (for phone keypad only) and its not coming up.
I have soft reset the phone as well.
Have tried searching but havnt found much.
Cheers
dude u have to search for enabling old type completion.. I did it...and it works... before that I had the same problem - here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4049651#post4049651
Thanks for that!

IMPORTANT: previously be sure that HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip has a value of 0.
Simply change these two registry keys under:
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e 0010409
Ime File : \windows\xt9ime.dll change to Ime File :\windows\compime.dll
and
Layout Text : XT9 IME change to Layout Text : COMP IME
And soft reset.

This is my first post, so please forgive me if the answer has already been provided somewhere else.
I have a TP2 purchased in Hong Kong that has the Chinese Fonts built into the ROM. The ROM version is 1.19.721.1 (51489) WWE.
I have checked in the registry and there is no HKLM\Software\Tegic entry.
The other keys are
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e 0010409
Ime File :\windows\compime.dll
and
Layout Text : COMP IME
Word completion using the onscreen keyboard and/or hardware keyboard does not work.
There is no normal keyboard available for selection, only the Touch Input
Could anyone advise how to fix this?
Thanks in advance, Gary
this should do it

Just wondering if anyone has faced the qwerty keyboard changed to a funny number key pad that has only 2 alphabet p and w in it? I am wondering if it is because of this tweak that is causing it. It will change without new software installation after a few days of usage. It has happened to me in 3-4 occasions already.
Only way to overcome it is for me to restore to previous backup. After a few days, same thing would happen and again I have to restore. So frustrating!

Yea it happens to me to!
Changing the reg keys back fixes it but then i loose auto complete... stupid bloody HTC, why couldnt they just make it all work!!!
I seem to get the proper keyboard in my text messages though, and everywhere else the numbers :S
Hmm.... seems that this tweak is causing the keyboard problem then?
I really dont want to lose the auto-complete feature.
i wish one of the smarter members of the community could work it out!
Same problem here! And it's very frustrating to be trying to type words and have numbers appear... please help! I did the registry edit and am having number appear when I press letters on the keyboard......

Normally, all you have to do to enable the word completion on the hardware keyboard is to pop up the SIP keyboard and tick the box at the left of the keyboard from "ABC" to "XT9," then simply slide out the hardware keyboard. It works for me every time.
Hi all
I've come over from the TP to the TP2 and I'm really missing the TAB key on the keyboard. Used it a bit. Is there anyway to map another key (maybe via FN) to perform the TAB function?
If you are just looking to move your text cursor between fields, the directional arrow buttons will do the job.

I must maybe try that again... I've tried it before but it didn't always work.
Nope it doesn't work... problem is that when I'm in a block that has figures in it it will go forward in the same block instead of going to the next block. Anyone else with same other ideas?
take a look here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Rhodium/ChangingKeyboardLayout
edit the file eT9.Rhodium.409.kmap.txt this way:
change this row:
{T T T T T 0x04}
in this row:
{T T T 0x09 0x09 0x04}
save the file as unicode and copy it to windows folder
now for tab key just type FN + T
Think I'm missing something. I've looked at the registry key and it says I'm using: eT9.Rhodium.www.kmap.txt but when I change this file absolutely nothing happens?? Should I still be chaning: eT9.Rhodium.409.kmap.txt although this is not the one according to my registry?
i did this mod time ago, but in my old touch pro the tab key did change between input fields, in touch pro 2 it only add a bounch of spaces (like when in text insertion) and doesn't switch fields...
is there a way to change the behaviour?
Need a Tab Button on touch pro2...
I have the same problem i need a tab button. I read in another thread how they remapped the Fn+t to = the tab but i dont think it is for the touch pro2
when i load the (eT9.Rhodium.www.kmap.txt) file nothing happeans. i did read in the text you have to change it to a unicode file but i couldn't figure out how to do that. Also many people have replied that you can use the arrow keys but as stated by "pieterbotes" if you are in a field for Example "typing in your name" you cannot move to another field for example " your password" with the arrow keys it the same thing on a Pc Keyboard only a tab button will allow you to do that. So if any of the great minds on this site have a answer it would be greatly appricated.
And does anyone agree that fn+q would be better than fn+t since the q is close to where the tab would be?
Thank You.
Duane

Could you please copy and paste here the eT9.Rhodium.409.kmap.txt file content?
This .txt file is located in /Windows folder... check also if it exist another eT9...txt file...
I'm interested notably in this row: {T T T x x 0x04} (what's instead X?)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
it' {T T T 0x09 0x09 0x04}
but i edited it.
in that way you have the tab key but it add spaces and does not change fields..
using the key remapper instead and sendink the keystroke to the os works as expected...
That program works brilliant. Thanks.
Hello all. I recently got the Bluetooth Motorola Keyboard and I was wondering if anyone would be able to explain how to change any of the hardware keys on the keyboard to open an application. Thanks in advance.
any ideas?/shameless bump
At this time there is no way to change any of the keys. There are people working on this at this time but so far nothing has come out of it. I have the same keyboard but haven't found any need to change anything. What are you trying to do?
I like the keyboard I just wish the messaging button was mapped and be able open the process list (last 5 apps running)
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I hope somebody figures something out with this. (I was just Google searching for something on this, found nothing and figured we'd have something here on the subject.) The messaging button for example, does nothing. If it atleast opened Google Talk that would make things easier. Would make my usual Talk/Browser/Gmail switching much easier when using the keyboard.
And being able to change the contacts key to something else wouldn't be awful either. I don't think I've ever used contacts on my Xoom besides looking at it once and noting a pretty interface. So many other apps would be more useful.
I may be able to help with this. Can someone zip and post up your "/system/usr/keylayout" and "/system/usr/keychars" directories and post them up?
You should not have a /data/usr/keychars and /data/usr/keylayout directories, but give me a copy of those as well if they exist!
Still need those files if you will please good sirs.
I have no idea how to find the files you need. I plugged in my Xoom but I could never get into the system files. I R DUM
here they are
I came across this in the AOSP dev site http://source.android.com/porting/keymaps_keyboard_input.html#androidKeymapKeyLayoutMapTitle
I checked out my system/usr/keylayout/ folder and it shows 3 vendor layout files. i'm guessing those are the moto keyboard.
It looks like it can be done. Although the your xoom would have to be rooted to push a modded file.
looks like someone fixed this!

What about generic bluetooth keyboards? I've seen that many for example use Apple keyboards. I was thinking about getting a generic bt keyboard from eBay and remap the keys. Is there any chance that can be done?

No they didn't fix it. All they did was show how to change what was in the config files for the keyboards and add a WAKE function to an existing button function in order to wake the tablet with the keyboard.
What it looks like is being asked here is how to remap the default application buttons on the motorola keyboard (ie,.. messaging, browser, music, etc). The messaging button does nothing on the Xoom since it can't send text messages and the button was really meant to perform this function on the Atrix. There has also been questions as to how you could remap the browser button to another browser since setting the default browser to something other than the chrome one does nothing.
I've looked over that entire file and not once in there did it show a mapping for those keys to their respective functions. The function buttons have settings there, but I don't know if changing those would have any affect.
Anyone???
in case anyone didn't know, you can press the "search" key + a letter to open up applications. For example, "search" + T opens up Google Talk.

A bit late to reply, but maybe this can help you.
As 'gadgetluva' already mentioned, you can use the "search" key + a letter to launch some applications.
Previous versions of android allowed you to change the assignment of these in the settings. But somehow that option is gone in Honeycomb. The code to do it is still in there, but I didn't find any UI entry to it in the settings.
But, there is a dirty work around if you really want to change them. The application Task Switcher (there are multiple ones, I'm talking about the one from Jason Parekh) can be downloaded for free from the market. It's a nice and useful application, but you can also use it to open the hidden "Quick Launch" settings dialog. You do that by going to the settings of Task Switcher and choose Shortcut. That will open the "Quick Launch" settings dialog. In there you can (re-)assign the "search" key shortcuts at will.
It's a bit involved, but you only have to do this once ...
PS: Once you have Task Switcher installed, you can as well bind it to a key your not using with the free application exsbar. That way you also have a quick shortcut to switch between the running applications. A little bit like the Alt-Tab in windows.

Anyone know if line breaks are removed in SMS messages? If they are, this is really a non-issue I guess.

No, you can use line breaks but the official Android keyboard + messaging app combo never had an "enter/return" option in the messaging app. It was always replaced by the smiley button. ICS is no exception, you'll have to either use a different keyboard or SMS app if you want line breaks.
