This thread assists a friend who is a new Mom & ALL of her infants pictures are not showing on this phone. I appreciate advice on this one, and happy to compensate anyone for taking a few minutes to advise me. I'm unfamiliar with HTC phones so thought I would post.
She fell asleep last night playing a game, today the phone is in "safe mode" and shows no pictures stored.
Phone is not rooted, completely stock. What is my best option. Thank you
Thought there might be life here. OK, $100 bucks for the fix. Anyone
Why is the phone in safe mode?
If it can be booted normally please let her install the Rescan Media app from the Play Store.
Open the app, and wait for 10 minutes (it works in the background). After ten minutes restart the phone.

Haha I'd be just as happy with such easy $100 just as much as the next person but I doubt that's gonna happen.
I just hope she can recover the pictures, I've been through such problems where I myself couldn't recovery mine and it sucks a lot.

That's why i turned on dropbox auto upload !
These main problems are because of MTP, it's crap. HTC should have let UMS in ......
If your solution doesn't work there are 2 options i can think if at this moment
1: let a repair shop read the sdcard from "outside the phone"
2: unlock the bootloader and take the chance to recover the missing files (first unlock will delete sdcard)

I have this issue before one year. I don't remember soo good but I think resolved the problem s FULL FACTORY RESET. But I remember HOW I go in Safe Mmode. After trying go in bootloader but I don't know why it is been unsucssesuful and the phone go in Safe mode.
The best way for you is to try to factory reset without wipe SD Card and see what will happend. I hope will exit from safe mode and you will not lose your pics.

I have a co-worker with Droid incredible and every time she turns the device on, it is stuck at the white HTC screen. Once in awhile, she'll be able to see the lock screen, but then the device will reboot again. I tried going into the recovery by pressing vol. down + power, but when I choose recovery, it gets stuck at the white screen again.
She does not have an insurance on the phone, is there a possible fix to this problem?
Thank you in advance.
Is it rooted or what? What did she or you do before this happened? Try to flash a rom or diff kernel?

Download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip
Rename that file PB31IMG.zip, put that on the root of the SD card, boot the phone into bootloader mode by pressing vol - & power. Let the update run its course, and she will go back to a TOTAL stock 2.2.
EDIT: She will lose all her texts, have to re-download all her apps, and set her homescreens up again, but I don't think you have any other option if it keeps getting stuck at the white HTC screen.
If it's stock already or if rooted and the PB31IMG from the above post doesn't work, she simply needs to do a warranty exchange. We are, after all, still within the warranty period.

How would that not work? Its the stock rom, signed. I myself have done this before. Why go exchange it and get a crappy refurb (most likely SLCD )that, more likely than not, has problems? Why not fix the problem and keep the one that she has?
If they didn't want to do that they could go to shipped-roms.com and download the RUU from there and flash it back to stock that way also.

It ain't gonna work if it's a hardware failure, which seems a bit too common with the first run of Incredibles. No software is going to fix a problem with the SoC, which is why I said if the RUU doesn't work, she needs to do a warranty exchange.
The phone is completely stock.
She had to cut the line off and use company phone for about a month or two due to her personal problems. Now she's trying to get back on line with Verizon, but it's keep on rebooting itself so there's noway put it back on again..
Does Verizon/HTC do warranty on the phone even though she's not on the Verizon with the Incredible?

I doubt they do, but you could just put it back on the plan, and take it into a verizon 30mins later. Tell them you hit *228 & #2 to update the prl and your phone rebooted and keeps doing so.
Thanks. If everything fails, I'll just go ahead and do that..
There's another version of recovery that lets you wipe the phone - you can search if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that instead of pwr<->vol down it was pwr<->touchball. There, you'll be able to wipe the phone.
I had a similar problem with a phone that I just sent back for warranty repairs. The upside was I did get past the white splash screen. The downside was a few days later, the phone finally kicked the bucket and wouldn't power at all.
This fixed my issue. I was able to retreive my pictures after everyone else was saying to forget about it including HTC and Verizon.. I think this is a pearl as so many Incredible users have posted the constant reboot issue. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!
Another rebooting SLCD Incredible
Hi guys,
Just wanted to let you all know that this week, my wife's SLCD Droid Incredible started randomly rebooting. I had her on the Virtuous stock-based ROM and the SLCD ClockworkMod Recovery, and she had a TON of crap apps (pregnancy, game, live wallpaper, etc.)
I was able to back up the phone if I left the back cover off, but everything I did was time/heat sensitive. I wiped the phone and when setting it backup, got the bootloops after downloading only five or six market apps, not running any of them.
Last night I went back to stock (S-ON, Stock November PB31IMG.zip bootloader update). Again, after getting back to complete stock, it locked up after a few market apps were downloaded.
I called Verizon this morning from MY AMOLED Incredible, and they first had me describe the issues in detail (30 minutes), then try and repeat the issue (20 seconds after opening Google maps and starting a navigation session *quick heat*). She transfered me to "Level 2 Support", then he wanted to walk me through resetting to factory defaults on the phone via the SD card and storage settings. I noticed he wanted me to wipe the Internal storage, so I told him I needed to first backup the DCIM folder full of personal pics and videos to my SD card. He waited patiently while I backed them up (20 minutes). When finished, he had me wipe the phone+EMMC. I left the cover off so we could get through the initial setup, the put it back on after setting it up. He had me do *228 option 1, after the phone rebooted he wanted me to try and do "normal tasks" like downloading apps to get the phone to repeat the issue, if possible. I simply opened up Google Maps, started navigation and 1 second later, the phone went into bootloops. He promptly set up an "in-warranty" replacement to be overnighted to my house.
I do not have any monthly insurance on my phones, so I thought it was great deal that Verizon can issue an advance warranty replacement with return shipping, overnight, no less. Most companies would tell a customer to contact HTC directly. I am sure that is what Alltel used to do. I don't think VZW did it because we have corporate discount, I think this is standard service they provide for all their customers.
For any of you having this issue, here's what I recommend:
**If your phone is continually rebooting, pull your battery and let it sit out of the phone so they can cool for at least 20 minutes... Alternatively, you could probably put your battery in the freezer for 10-20 minutes and get a little extra "cold time" out of the phone before it bootloops**
1. Sync your apps with an app service like Appbrain to easily retrieve the list of apps you had.
2. Backup your call history and bookmarks using an app or two from the market. I have used free ones before, they should be easy to find.
3. Back up your Internal Storage and SD card to your computer (and preferably to a backed up location on your PC)
4. Revert to S-ON, and Stock ROM, if you are not already on one.
5. Set up only the basic functions on your phone (don't download any apps), then test that it is a heat issue by simply opening up Google maps and navigating anywhere.
6. Call Verizon and wait PATIENTLY on the phone as they walk you through their hoops. Expect this to take an hour or three. Just do as they say, as they have to make sure you indeed have a defective phone.
7. Profit.
Hope it helps,
jakewill

Soo. I think I bricked my Epic 4g Touch. When going to turn it on, I get nothing but the blue LED. I automatically assumed this is bricked, and start researching on how to potentially fix it. I read USB Jig, and Jtag, etc etc.
Story: Was on MIJJz ICS Blend. Reverted to Stock EL29 W/ CWM via Odin. I haven't even flashed that many ROMs, aside from MIJJZ ICS Blend updates. Went to flash AOKP Build30, upon booting I get a yellow triangle. After letting AOKP settle for a few, I noticed I had no data. So I went to Restore from backup, (Which is what caused the issue I've noticed AFTER research). Now I have nothing but a blue LED.
Question is: Will the USB Jig work for this type of brick? I've read sometimes it will, sometimes it wont.
Or will I have to send it off for a JTag. Any help is highly appreciated.
_EDIT_ No, I can not get into download mode, or recovery. My screen shows no activity.
From what I have read you are bricked. I would take it to a sprint store with a repair center and play stupid. Just say you were talking on the phone, it got really hot so you pulled the battery and when you tried to turn it back on this is what happened. Something along those lines. Make sure you take it to a sprint with a repair center or they will want to send it to Samsung which will probably take at least a week.

Honestly if you can't do either its a no brainer unfortunately but question did you go into recovery and try and restore data or from an app?
Edit: Dont take this the wrong way but at this point with the million threads out there about this your choices are quite clear and with a search you they are also all defined for you but I will help as best I can
1. Go to Sprint(repair shop) play stupid.. Oh I took the OTA and I got this or I woke up restarted my phone and I only have a blue light... - I hear those are a couple of the good ones
2. Try Jtag service but from what I hear it has not worked for anyone... Research this or contact them yourself they are on xda
3. Get another phone through Ins, Ebay or Craigslist
4. Send phone back to Samsung as some have done for repairs
All these answers were found in this lovely place we call xda and done by just casually reading a few threads to keep myself informed on my $500 equipment.
Good luck man...

Well then I would wait it out by taking the battery out of your phone and waiting for a while then plug it back in and try again. Honestly it should not get the blue light just by doing that. Also ask on here if anybody in your area but have a USB jig to see if you can be jump started into download mode. Your case sounds different if you say you only restored data from an app(right)?
Does your pc respond when you plug it in
No, PC Doesn't recognize it. And I was doing a complete restore from backup
If you are on windows, go to mellowdev.net and download Mango Tools. You may push roms / files directly to your device and perform many other adb commands all via a nice interface. Ya, thats what I figured as soon as it happened. I just wanted to double check with the fine members of XDA. I'm over it. On to the next device. I'm gonna try and hold out for the SGS3. Thanks though, everyone that helped or considered helping, lol.

Yeah man, it's a help forum tho, no need to be so condescending to people just trying to get specific answers.
Jtag is probably gonna be your best bet at this point, given you didn't fry the emmc. Which is a 50/50 chance on that one, mobile Odin is the best and easiest way to do anything recovery related from ICS especially the AOSP versions(cm9, codename, AOkP). Trust me $5 is definitely worth not killing a $500 device. I keep a copy of the apk and an el26+cwm tar on my SD card and on my PC incase I delete my SD card or need to format it. It takes about the same amount of time to mOdin the kernel+recovery as it does to boot into recovery, about 30secs to flash when it reboots either press and hold volume up or pull the battery and press volume up + power if u miss the volume on reboot. Then from that recovery you can do anything you need safely.

So after about 1 year and 1 month of owning this phone, this phone started getting crazy.
First the wifi started messing up, I barely get 3 bars when my phone is taped to the router.
Now the bottom buttons don't even work, when I click them they start clicking around crazy like opening a text box or selecting an option.
I lost my warranty sadly and don't know what to do. I don't mind the wifi I just want the buttons to work

My phone has always been in a cover safe etc, taken care of no water 100%

All lights on buttons work
Well try a factory reset from the bootloader, but be warned that it formats the whole phone ! For safety also backup the sdcard !
As Mr. Hof says, try doing a full factory reset via bootloader.
If you don't know how to access the bootloader:
1. Turn on your phone, at least at the bootscreen
2. Hold down the POWER-button and the Volume-down-button for about 15 seconds, so that the buttons are flickering and keep holding until you see a white screen with at the top : **LOCKED**
3. Go to Factory Reset with the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select.
I hope that helps for you!

If you do a factory reset, you will only lose the things that are on you Phone, and thus not on your Internal SD card. But, make sure you got everything you want to keep what's on your phone is on your Internal SD card. I recommend using ASTRO File Manager to manage your files, and copy it to your internal SD card, which ís accessable by connecting the device to your computer, but I believe if not, you first have to install an HTC Driver.

By the way!
The Wi-Fi problem occurs at many HOXs! It's a hardware problem. Try squeezing on the back of the phone between the camera and the volume button. If the Wi-Fi will become stronger, you've also got this problem, at least, I have. You can fix it by opening your phone (voids warranty) and placing a piece of aluminum foil on the right place. Go and search for a tutorial on YouTube or so. I can't help you with hardware, I'm sorry!

Watch out with what you write, there have certainly been reports of wiped sdcsrds after a factory reset. That's why i recommend them to always make a backup. Believe me, i know what im talking about here......

Doesn't HTC have a two year warranty?
In Holland they do, i'm sure.
Had my Sensation repared under warranty after almost two years.
Had to send it directly to HTC.
I'm also from Holland, and you're right. But I don't know if this counts for all countries. Guess not.

Something are repaired by factory reset like Mr hoffs said just back sdcard ...then do a factory reset then you can setup all back and if its all not repaired then you have to send it in...as your phone is locked and you didn't flashed any Rom etc they should repair without charge.....

Hello All,
I've been here for some time just reading...first time posting.
Learned a lot here, rooted a few phones, got myself out of a few jams in the past too...
Well this time I'm in a jam and can't find any info to get out of this problem...
So the screen went black after it got cracked, and the touch screen doesn't seem to respond at all.
I have a replacement coming (had to pay 150 through T-Mobile even though I have insurance - ridiculous)...
Anyway I have to send this one back when the replacement shows up.
I got files and things on the internal storage that I need to remove, texting apps with conversations I don't need anyone else seeing...etc
I can't do anything with the phone since I can't see the screen...
Don't know what the hell to do...suggestions?
Thanks,
Duke
I should add that I'm running Cyanogenmod......

Not familiar with it - looked at it....looks a little complicated but I'll have to figure it out
Just thought of something...can't I enter recovery and just follow the appropriate steps to master reset (just doing it blindly)...
I managed to hard reset and then unroot the phone by watching videos and just following the timing of each step
Takes a couple tries but it's possible!

I just followed the same steps they did (blindly obviously) and I knew it was done correctly if the phone would reboot at the right time, or when I did the unroot when the phone reboot I can hear the T-Mobile stock jingle on the boot screen.
As the title suggests, my screen is inoperable but I can hear notifications come through, so it's booting up. Any way to get unbacked data off of it?

I'd say plug it in to the computer and try getting into the phone.. You might have to tap on the screen even though it's broken it could probably still accept touch and you'll need to try to tap "ok" in order to get access or you'll have to try to use smart switch app to try.
The screen is unresponsive, I can't even try to guess where the buttons are to enter the pin

Your best bet is try to find a screen then.. I had that problem 1 time in my life and I found a screen on Ebay that was cracked pretty badly but it still worked and it allowed me to at least connect it and get my stuff transferred.. You should also check your gmail account because the Google account you have a lot of the phones backup themselves automatically and you might be able to get it back onto another phone.

I would be able to help you get what you need off the phone if youre in the NJ area. Ive been able to help out people in similar situations before. Just let me know if you have exhausted other options and you dont mind handing over your phone temporarily to a complete stranger . Seriously though, I can see if I can help.
