No need to flash stock and relock the bootlader. You need Stock recovery only if you want to receive OTA from HTC but you need stock rom odexed version(unrooted) too.
Very Useful
Thanks man :fingers-crossed:

i have htc one x 32gb and after keep restarting . some body please tell me what is difference between ENDEAVORU XE and ENDEAVORU pvt . i have ENDEAVORU XE ....
Think the XE is a developers/test device from HTC
The One X models are/were; One X, One XL, One XC, One XT, and the One x+ models, so can't see it being a Korean model. I would imagine Hofs was correct, again
And most XE versions i have seen are s-off and not or very difficult to upgrade

Hello everybody,
First I want to thank you all guys here for amazing guides on how to switch to custom roms.
Now, I want to sell my old HTC One X so I want to return it to stock HTC rom.
And there the problem is.
When I relock phone and try to apply RUU_Endeavor_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed I get error 140. I also tried some experiments with some OTAs but it didn't work. I had CM 11 nightly build last time when phone was working before trying to switch back to stock.
My question is: what should I do next? First relock and then flash which RUU?
I searched and read something about nandroid backups but I didn't find one which corresponds to my phone and at the end I lost completely in searches
Thanks in advance!

That only works with s-off and since he has an s-on device it won't work.
@ OP.
You need to get a nand backup from the collection thread in the general section. Restore ANY 3.20.401 nand regardless the CID. Then flash back the stock 3.20.401 recovery and perform ota updates. After that you can relock the bootloader if you wish !
@Mr Hofs:
OK, I flashed nandroid backup for 3.20.401.3 but for CID HTC__E11.
What should I do now? When you sais stock recovery you mean original RUU?
But, there is no RUU for 3.20.401 for my CID HTC__032...

Hey all
Just bought a M8 and I wanted to root if for a few apps I use, however I didn't know that by putting a custom recovery mod I would not be able to update my phone. So I am trying my best to get it back to stock however I can not find a RUU that matches my CID. Could someone please help me find a way to get my phone back to stock so I can get updates with no problems.
-Cheers
P.S: Lesson learnt, always back up your phone before attempting this bull**** -.-, miss my s4. Could find anything I needed on that thing.

You don't need to unroot to get updates. If you're s-off just flash a stock recovery. If your s-on flash a stock recovery and relock the boot loader. Takes about 2 mins to do either.

Like I already said all you need do is flash one of the stock recoveries from this thread, use whichever you had originally for your CID.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
You can't ota with a custom recovery.
I love ViperROM and would never want to go back. They are very good about getting updates out pretty quick. So not long after an official OTA comes I think Viper is quick on it. I believe we already had one for the M8. My friend has tried a few roms and thinks Viper is the best.

no idea, anyway to find out?
I just looked at the software version of my phone under About and downloaded the matching recovery. Then I flashed the recovery, installed the OTA update, and reflashed TWRP after.

I'll have a look tomorrow or the weekend, I might be able to hook you up. I have a couple of OTAs kicking around.

Did you read anything on the stock backup page?
As long as the base number is the same then you should be able to flash a recovery that matches. You have software version 1.54.708.5 so just flash one that begins with 1.54.
The nearest is:
STOCK RECOVERY 1.54.707.5
Nothing will happen so just go ahead and try it.
Here's the OTA, but it won't install unless you already have the stock OS installed.

If this works you will have my eternal gratitude.
Hi,
I have an UK HOX which is running CM11. I am giving it my father and want to revert to stock beforehand. I don't have a nandroid backup & can't seem to find one which will work. Is this possible or will I be stuck on CM?
I'm currently on HBOOT 1.36 & radio 5.1204 (not sure if that's relevant). Please let me know if there's more info I can provide.

Hi just read the thread properly, I have confused you in my pm, Thant is right, your on hboot 1.36 so you need my nand not glenbrownies. This is the stock nand from before the jb update which has the hboot version 1.1? You will need to update in settings about phone check for updates and you'll then have sense 5 installed.
You can install a nand which has a lower hboot version but not a nand that has a higher hboot version.

No worries. Thanks a million for the help
Can I just get one last noob question out the way - in the nandroid backup folder, are they both the stock boot.img and recovery.img I need to flash after restoring? Or do I need to find a separate stock boot & recovery img?
I've successfully reverted back to stock. Only issue I have now is that the official OTA update won't install. It downloads and boots into the stock recovery, then about a third of the way up the progress bar the process stops and the recovery icon changes to the red triangle with the exclamation mark in it.
I've also tried it again after doping a factory reset with no luck. Any experience with this happening?

I've flashed the stock recovery & still no joy. Also tried flashing the 'firemware.zip' file from the OTA and trying to install the it manually with no success, either.

Just flashed the recovery from the firmware.zip file & the OTA update fails at same stage.
My bootloader is unlocked, should it be relocked for this to work?
Edit: Relocked bootloader & tried with the same result. I noticed the hboot img file in the 'firmware' zip is a higher version than mine (1.36) ... Would it be worth flashing this then trying again?

don't use the recovery from OTA update use previos one or this for your main version and must be recovery for your main version
other way is to lock the bootloader flash firmware.zip then flash custom rom or stock nandroid backup. But you need to see your main version again after flashing the zip

Awesome, that's worked! Got the JB update restored, runs great! It does say there's another update to install but I get an HTC error saying basically the device is rooted (I installed the new recovery & relocked bootloader, it's def not rooted anymore) but I don't care to be perfectly honest.
Thank you guys so much for all your help!
