Hi all,
I am thinking of getting an Arc S as they are priced well atm but worried about the 1gb space.
I read about Link 2 SD letting you install all apps to the memory card after rooting the phone and formatting the SD card in EXT format.
BUT does this work with the factory ICS rom or does it have to be one from here? also whats the max space the new EXT can be?
Thanks
Tom

Link2SD should work with any ROM
Yeah but i think it also need a kernel that supports ext, so i guess no stock (and yes unlock bootloader)
I dont know how much space you can set, but im currently using 2 GB and no problem so far.

hi all,
I'm planning to flash a custom rom for the first time. Since I like HTC Sense, RCMixHD seemed like a good choice? (Is it?)
My phone is already rooted and via rom manager i have clockworkmod. I also made a backup via the recovery.
Now is my question: what is the difference between the two versions of the rom? Is one better than the other? And what exactly do I have to do with the sd-card to make it work correctly?
Thank you in advance,
Floris
A2SD+ - apps and app data moved to the SD card
Data2SD - ALL data is moved to the SD card
Quite simple really! Data2SD is better for storage BUT add strain to your SD card. Plus, you need a fast SD card for it to be worth while (Class 6 upwards)
thank you for such a quick reply!
Now I know I should chose the A2SD+ version since (for the time being) I only have the preinstalled memory card.
Now the only thing I have to do is partition it correctly?
Thanks!

Yes.

I've watched a video in which they use gparted to partition the sd-card. However they say in the video they think you need to create a fat16 partition for sdcards lower than 4gb and fat32 for larger cards.
Like it said, I use the preinstalled 4GB card. Should I use fat16 or fat32?
Also, in the RCMixHD topic, you can download a lot of different versions of the A2SD+ rom. I believe with different kernels and the first one is 2.0x1. I have downloaded the 2.0x1 version. Is that okay?
thanks!

I've never heard of that and can't think of any reason why you should create a fat16 partition.
I'd keep the fat32 partition, resize it (make it smaller), and create a 500mb ext3-partion at the end. (thats what I did months ago and everything works nicely)
Sry I cant help you with the rom-question, I don't use a hd-rom.
many thanks for the reply. Will try the rom and see Thanks for the help!
Hi sorry for being a big noob but I really need your help guys. I was having low memory issues on my desire so I sucessfully rooted today. I also install the AceS007-3d stable Rom from the developers section and successfully flashed that. It says that I need a sd card with a partition to move apps to ad. I have a 4gb sd card with a 2gb ext2 partition. But when I install an app it still is on the internal memory! the apps should move to the sd card shouldn't they? What do I need to do for them to move? Please help!! Thanks
I don't think you understand how it works fully. Read the root memory faq available via my signature

Read posts for getting more memory...
WITH THIS rom you will be getting 150MB approx for installing apps
My girlfriend got the HTC Wildfire S for MetroPCS a couple of weeks ago. It is a nice phone except for one little problem: The internal memory is crap. She has exactly 5 apps installed, all are moved to SD, and she has 7.14 MB or internal memory free. It is running the stock 2.3 Rom rooted. I need some help figuring out what to do. Before you guys make suggestions let me list what I have already done:
1. S-OFF and rooted, removed all bloatware, which moved it from 3.21 MB to 8 MB which seems like BS because a few of those apps were about 6 MB in size.
2. Moved apps to SD card partially in the applications menu in settings.
3. Cleaned caches
4. Uninstalled almost every application.
This is very frustrating because she cant update apps, she cant download apps, and it is frustrating because I have the old Huawei Ascend on CM7 and I have more apps and am faster than her phone, its ridiculous, I also wonder why after removing over 60MB or crap and bloatware it freed up about 7MB. Makes no sense. I don't want to do DT's app2sd script yet because she doesn't have a way to back up her stuff before the partition of the SD card. If anyone can explain another way or something I can do to fix this please..... It would be greatly appreciated.
Use Partition Wizard Home (Free) to resize your FAT32 partition and create your Ext(whatever your kernel supports) partition on a windows machine.
No need to back up. Doesn't destroy partitions.
My preference is Link2SD free from the market.
You can mass move your apps, dalvik cache and library files to the Ext(Probably Ext2 with stock rom kernel) from the SD card and internal to your Ext partition very easy.
Also you can set it up to auto do this when new apps are installed and choose which apps you want to keep fully internal for faster booting, startup, etc.

Is this the same question from two different people or one person logged on as two different people?
If your card is corrupt and can't be read try a program like Recuva on the PC (free) to get your files from it.

Format it in windows using the partition software I mentioned and make sure it is:
1/ Fat32
2/ A Primary not a Logical partition
3/ Make it the Active partition

Hey,
xperia arc memory is only 320 MB
and LINK2SD method is make my app start slow and not smoothly at all, so is there any way better than these ?
My arc is stock ICS rooted, stock kernel
Hi,
The only other way is to use apps2sd. Though this only moves some apps to the sd card, and you will still end up having problems with space.
Link2SD is the best option. If it's running slow, get a faster class card like a class 6 or class 10
just Flash Arc S FTF,
u Will Get 420 MB Internal Space.
Problem Solved
with titanium backup, you can move apps to the system rom, using free space that other ways gets wasted.

i think you right my SD is class 2, and the other partition system is FAT i think this system type is slow to manage files unlike EXT3,4
(i use it because its the only type witch work with sotck ICS)

get a class 10 memory card..then try link2sd..your apps will open in a flash
There is a new way to increase internal memory. AD2SDX.
here is the thread for the AD2SDX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18561098
and in that thread one person has claimed it is better than Link2SD.
I want to do it..but i am searching if anyone has tried it first.
Hey guys, i bought my Galaxy Grand a few days ago and i'm a bit confused with some things.
First of all, i really need to root my phone to move large apps to my SD card?
There is any side effect of using the method mentioned before in this forum? (ext2int if i'm not wrong)
Now i'm using a small sd card (4gb, but i'm going to buy a 16gb class 10 soon), if i change my internal storage to use my sd card i'll still be able to install things into the phone memory?
Could someone point out a tutorial please.
And about rooting, i saw to methods here in the forum, wich one is the best?
There is any difference between the firmware for GT - I9082 and GT - I9082L when trying to flash a pre rooted one?
Last question, i tried the epic citadel benchmark in my phone and a lot of artifacts showed up in my screen, it is a problem with my phone or its application fault?
Thanks in advance.
i rooted mine right after it arrived. i did not use ext2int after all. i find it rather confusing that i cannot replace my sd card.
i am finde with the internal memory. even after installing some bigger games. so i cannot comment on the advantages disadvantages.
i can tell you to not take the 9082L versions if you are having a 9082 phone.
the rooting method in this forum works fine and is not harming your phone.

1.Yes, your phone HAS to be rooted to move apps.
2. NO side effects, just swaps your int and ext memory so i reccomend a 32 gb ext sd card.
3. For example,In large games, the data will be stored in android/data which is in the phone memory. But after swapping, your phone memory size will be of the size of your sd card, so no issue of space.
4. Rooting- USE CHOTU'S GUIDE(SEARCH THE FORUM)
Rom- k2wl or balli's rom(SEARCH THE FORUM).
PLS HIT THANKS IF I HELPED!!!

You mentioned two roms in your answer, do i need to flash one of those or can i just flash de Su binaries + CWM and install super su?
May I answer you? He suggested the 2 deodexed roms if you are interested on flashing mods. Just having root is enough for using ext2int or titanium backup for example but you need deodexed to use mods.

I wanna ask, since 3+ Gig free space for games + apps. If I mounted sdcard and install apps+games, will it goes to external sdcard? Because new phone up to Galaxy Note 2 will not having the features move to sd. Plus, for that particular phone, internal memory is not a problem as they having at leave 11Gig.
