Hi,
Before the last update on my HTC One X, audio was fine. Playing videos, ringtones and notifications, playing games, music, whatever... since I received the last update with Sense 5, although all my volumes are at maximum you can hardly hear it.
When plugging in the headset I get the audio as loud as I want.
I know the speaker on HTC One X is not that good, but still - I had no problem hearing my phone ring before...
I tried everything I could find, I cannot change a thing.
Did someone experience this specifically after an update ? (apparently some people complained about the loudness of that phone before - did HTC go a little bit too far fixing that ?)
Do you think this could be solved by flashing with Revolution HD ? (which I wanted to do since it works brilliantly on my Note II)

If you are rooted (assuming you are since you talk about flashin a rom) then i recommend you try viper4android. It works flawlessly!

Thanks for the replies... I was only able to try things out saturday because I didn't have the phone at home...
It wasn't rooted yet, but that's done now. I flashed it with cwm recovery and Revolution HD 31.3.
During the installation, R-HD suggested the installation of PureXaudio - which I selected. There was still no change, the maximum volume of the phone is still very low.
So I checked the post for it, downloaded the mods pureXaudio and xLOUD to install them manually from recovery - still no change. I don't find anything in the settings either concerning those mods, so I don't really know what to do next. The post also states it's system wide, that nothing needs to be done for it to be effective...
Continuing my reading I came across some posts advising to modify some file in the system folder, but I can't retrieve that file. I tried by connecting the phone as media storage, I also browsed the phone's system folders with ES File Explorer - no luck.
I also checked the posts for viper4audio but I can't figure what I have to do exactly... I must say I read it rapidly 'cause I needed to go... but I do have the phone with me now, so I can try everything out.
pureXaudio seems to be a quality enhancer -- I should say, the quality is not the issue, it's really the volume.
Question : with those mods installed, shouldn't I be able to activate Beats Audio again, even without headphones ? Because I still can't...
I hope some of you can tell me if I did something wrong, or didn't do something I should have... installation of those mods didn't change a thing for me (apparently).
I'm about to flash with other ROMs to see if something changes - I'm open to all suggestions.
And as for AudioX - I suppose it was pureXaudio because I can't fine anything called AudioX in the Play Store or even by Googling it.
Beats is for headset only.
Sound like you need to clean the speak out, I would suggest opening it and cleaning from inside out but you can do it from the outside if you rather.

Well I thought about the speaker, but it's unlikely. I'll try anyway, just to get that out the way, but it was still going fine before the last update...
By the way, I just tried cm-10.1.3-endeavoru - I didn't have sound at all (neither did I have wifi or bluetooth... nevermind though, that's not my current problem)
I'm back to Revolution HD now... made sure pureXaudio was installed again - still no change.
Before switching ROMs I used ROM-Cleaner and wiped all data, cache, dalvik cache...

I wiped with CWM recovery every time... do you think wiping through fastboot would change anything regarding sound ?
Now I'm looking into flashing it with an earlier stock rom nandroid backup (from a thread found here in the forum) - but the one I tried earlier didn't take. I downloaded another (even slightly older) version which I still need to try out.
I also apologize regarding the earlier "AudioX" suggestion : there is indeed an AudioX mod available, one of which every one seems to be happy - unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have any effect on mine
I'm starting to wonder if installing those mods really has any effect. I'm using CWM - which I'm told is OK for all those mods (installations do succeed), but I also noticed most people are using TFWP(?) - so I'll start looking into switching from CWM to TFWP if the earlier stock roms don't help.
did you figure it out?

Hello,
I am quite new to rooting but after some research I was able to successfully root my Telus DHD and went with ARHD 6.1.5. Now it is working great however the sound quality overall is quite "tinny". I have searched XDA through and through and other people seem to be having the same problem with ARHD 6.1.5. I have tried the Inspire 4G/DHD 'Tinny' Audio Fix by TurboniumX, but in ARHD 6.1.5 it kills all sound completely.
I anyone aware of how to fix this?
Thank you in advance!
UPDATE
I seem to have fixed the audio problem. I have modified the TurboniumX audio fix with updated file names/locations. Sound quality is greatly improved.
All credit goes to TurboniumX for creating the patch in the first place. All I did was update it to be compatible with ARHD 6.1.5 - 6.3.1.
Attached are the files that can be applied via CWR.
I'm still looking but no luck yet... I will post here if I find a fix.

No, I found that the overall sound quality was very tinny especially during phone calls.

Hey,
This will resolve issues with Telus DHDs, the fix attached to my first post can be flashed via clock work recovery. If you're not using a Telus phone your mileage may very.
Place the file on the root of your SD card and reboot into recovery. Choose install zip from SD card and select the correct file.
And do I need to clear cache before doing it?

My mic died...
Ok, first of all let me say my audio sounds fantastic right now. I don't have a Revolution, I actually flashed this to my Thunderbolt running MIUI5, so I'm assuming this is probably going to be the root of my issue.
Anyway, since flashing, the sound has been great. The problem is when I make a phone call or answer a phone call. The person on the other side of the call doesn't hear me at all. This happens on 100% of my phone calls so I don't suspect it's an app issue.
This is the only time my mic doesn't work though. When I use any apps that utilize the mic (ie, voice search, voice text, .andi, etc) it pics up my voice. Also, when making a call, if I turn on speaker phone the person on the other side can hear me. The problem with this, if I'm talking about something "sensitive" I don't want to broadcast my conversation to the world .
Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have any suggestions other than trying a different ROM? ( I REALLY want MIUI, but I have to have good sound)
Post questions regarding the subject ROM here. If you know the answers, please chime in and help. Ravers has authorized this thread - please use it!
Does anyone want to tell me all the current problem with the ROM so far because I want to see of its worth flashing now or waiting for an update.

Hi folks, is anyone having issues getting this rom to start? I get stuck on the booting "google" icon with moving gears animation. Let it sit for 18 minutes before pulling battery. Below is how I installed:
1. Factory reset.
2. Wiped cache.
3. Wipe dalvik.
4. Ran dark wipe.
5. Ran kernel cleanser
6. Installed this rom's latest release.
I do the above steps for all rom's I've tried and never an issue with booting.
Any suggestions? In meantime, gonna try again. Thanks

Final update. Went back to non-Touch recovery and now rom loads no problem. All is well.
Just started this whole rooting thing a few days ago but I've found that using Darkside Super Wipe is pretty useful thing to use before flashing a rom. Here's the link for the wipe and more info about it:

A simple answer without knowing what you are able to deal with:
Go with RC8 and flash the theme here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568128
It will be close to perfect...
BTW: you need to go through the development topic to see all the problems. I think nobody would want to do this for you
Sorry for the possibly-newb question, but does the "Customizable Hardware Keys" mention in the OP mean that I can change my stupid search button into a multitasking one?!?! That would be AMAZING!

RC9
I know it says that RC 9 is experimental, but according to the bug list it doesn't seem so bad. Anybody have any personal experience with it?
For those wondering about the status of all the experimental versions, I will give you a quick rundown of my personal experience with them as far as ability as a DD is concerned.
RC 8: Good DD after inputting APN settings, didnt come across any errors, everything seems to work, except for receiving mms messages, a few others reported the same problem.
RC 9: I personally never had in call audio working, which was reported by others as well, as a result I reverted back to RC 8.
RC 10: Still early in its development, was released early mainly so RaverX3X could get some logcats on things he could not personally test. audio is not working, data (calling, texting, etc) is not working. Unless your looking to help RaverX3X out with logcats and such i would stick to RC 8 or RC 7 as your DD
RaverX3X or anyone else feel free to add or correct me if I'm wrong or missed something.
Edit: Also I installed all roms with non-touch CWM with no problems.

Something tells me this simply means you can turn on the on screen hardware keys, similar to what the Galaxy Nexus has. I have yet to figure out what value this is for a device with these very same keys in hardware already, but some people find it cool. I haven't seen a mod that will allow me to reassign my hardware keys to do something else, but I can hardly claim to have seen them all.

Darn, this makes sense. HOWEVER, if Raver or any other developer wanted to allow us to reassign the hardware keys, that would be much appreciated and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one to appreciate this, as multitasking takes a little longer than it should. Thanks either way though!

so u know i got 2 people to pm me so ill be sending them copies of a un released build and work with them in getting the last issue fixed once done ill re open the dev thread.

Hey guys,
After trying to install Cyanogen and just getting stuck in a boot loop I opted for AOKP which was the first rom to finally boot up on the device. At first things seemed great but my flash seems to be rife with errors that others don't seem to be getting on AOKP. So here we go...
- Notification/ring tones will not play. There is no sound for some reason. (if I select the ringtone, where it would normally play is just silence)
- ALL calls are played through the speakerphone. There is seriously no way to make it play through the ear piece.
- Headphones do not work. (yes, I've used different headphones, etc). If I have them plugged in the music still plays through the loud speaker (rear speaker)
- I can't send or receive picture messages (not a carrier/provider issue)
- Can't play videos (I have tried the youtube app, youtube website) videos simply just do not play
- Numerous multimedia file errors (if I try to open a video on a website I get a "Sorry, this video cannot be opened") and if I try to open some audio files I get the same error.
Anyway to fix this? I've flashed the latest kernel in the AOKP Primou thread, as well as numerous others (hellboy, etc) as well as just a CM10 kernels. The hellboy one just gave me a bootloop and every other one makes NO difference.
Any help guys?? I tried to post in the Primou AOKP thread but I don't have the correct "privileges" yet because I haven't posted enough.

My apologies, I forgot to mention I don't have a recovery of the stock ROM. It's a long story but basically the only functioning ROM I can use is this one. I've also tried running the RUU but it says that it's the wrong file version, despite it being the right carrier/radio, presumably due to the stock rom not being on the phone. Is there any way to push the RUU onto the phone?

You can force HBOOT to install the RUU for you. Just look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018518 under the "Solution #2" heading. Just remember to rename the .zip file on your SD card once you're done, or HBOOT will find it every time you boot to the bootloader.
I am stuck with same issues.
And as far as I know there is no problem from your side.
It is just because build is not fully stable yet.
I tried to post comment regarding it to developers profile but couldn't do it as m new to this site. Hope to have a more stable build asap.

Thanks will try... the other option - I forgot the exact URL - but googled it to find that clearing the Dialler app cache and offline data solved the issue. The other setting probably the most important one was to set autounlock on ring in Lockscreen setting in Viper tweaks menu - touch wood haven't had this issue anymore... but nevertheless moving over to Cyanogenmod as I am missing 4.2.2

Yeah I've seen this happening a lot on Viper X Recently, and as stated attempt a Full wipe before flashing, other than that you could try a new kernel? Not that I think it'll make a difference but its an option to use.
I have copied over mp3 files from a computer to my rooted phone, and I cannot hear anything when I play them at all. Sound works fine outside of listening to music, such as in app sounds, ringtones, videos, online music players, but local sound files are just silent.
I use Google Play Music to listen to audio, and I noticed if I play a file, then restart the phone while it is "playing" it plays just fine when it reopens, but only that file, and only that session. Replay doesn't work out. I tried playing the sound files from Google Drive, and I get the same result. It can't be the files because I can play the same files from Google Drive from my computer just fine.
I got an M8 rooted with aokp task650 at&t and this only recently started happening

Still no fix I've tried everything can't get around it. I've reinstalled apps that are involved and still nothing. (Also I have tried several players and its definitely not that)
Have you tried wiping the data and cache for Play Music? Or using a different music player?
Transmitted via Bacon
Yes I've wiped the data and cache, retried, uninstalled reinstalled, retried, and then tried many different players on the play store, nothing works. Although I have noticed something unusual there is just one audio file that actually plays, all the other ones won't. They all play just fine on my computer and directly from Google Drive, but when I play from Google Drive on my phone it doesn't seem to work, so it can't be the files.
Sorry but I honestly have no idea why that might be happening.
Transmitted via Bacon
Do you have any idea what I should do? Should I just deal with it? Maybe I should just factory reset and reflash everything and see if its still there but thats a lot of work for what seems to be a trivial issue
I'd definitely try a factory reset. It isn't something you should have to deal with at all.
Transmitted via Bacon
Alright I will try to do that this week

I have wiped everything and factory reset, then I flashed the rom again. First thing I did was check the music from google drive, still not working. I've done all the things I did last time to see if music works but I'm getting the same results. I'm reluctant to switch roms again because I doubt that will change anything. I used to be able to play music and that was on the rom I am using currently.
update: I've downloaded and tried Pandora Internet Radio and even that doesn't work it just plays silence like all my other audio files. the restarting to play a track on the widget still works for some reason

A kernel will only be replaced if you flash a ROM or kernel. The kernel is part of the ROM, it won't be wiped by a factory reset/user data wipe.

The kernel is part of the ROM. If you don't know if you modified the kernel or not, just flash the ROM again, and it will re-install whatever kernel comes with the ROM.
Hmm then I guess its unrelated to the kernel because i've flashed several times after this problem started. Should I try a different rom or would that not make a difference? It isn't the rom because this used to work on the exact same rom beforehand.
