So, me and my brother live in the same town. Obviously both are on Verizon and have HTC One's. But my phone is on 1.10605.2 whereas his was on 1.10.605.8 and got the update. Im not necessarily worried about taking the update, I just dont know why my phone cant find it. And even though I'm on pre-release software, HTCDev unlock still doesn't work. ???

The software doesn't have anything to do with HTC Dev unfortunately. Verizon locked all HTC ones out after day one.

is your phone an s off test phone if youve got pre-release software? unfortunately, thats typically how OTAs work. only specific builds will OTA. leaks and pre-release builds often will not.
youll need to manually update to .8
if your s off,you can prolly run the de-crypted ruu,or you could install recovery.
if your s on,and got the phone legitimately, contact vzw and see if they can do anyting for you. otherwise your stuck until an ruu is released,or until you root, install a custom recovery and flash a rom.
Can't you do a factory reset back to the original .8 software version? (It sounded like you went back a version to try to get it unlocked)

no. factory reset only erases user data. it does not restore any firmware or software.
There was a major delay on the Verizon version, they had to open all the phones and relash the software, that's another reason they had a extra month delay. It looks like you are on a old software. Unless you s-off you might be stuck on that that without an ruu to flash

If you are not unlocked/rooted, I'd go to Verizon and ask them to give you a NEW phone, not a refurb.

I had my first One blow the earpiece speaker (ok, it got dropped ) and I went to several Verizon stores to get try and get a warranty replacement. All of the stores would warranty it no problem but because I was out of the 14 day purchase window, I had to have them ship me one. I got a returned unit, not a refurb that is perfect. They overnighted me the phone but would not replace in-store because of the elapsed time.
So, a heads up to you: You could find a cool rep at the store but be prepared to have one shipped to you. Just find a reason to warranty it (like camera issues or a blown earpiece) and you will probably get a new or returned unit. No refurbs yet.
Or, wait for s-off/send to sonic and load updated, better custom ROMs.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well actually I'd call the 1-800-922-0204 press #0, then 0, until it asks for you account password, then wait for a rep. then explain your issue, and tell them because of the way the phone is meant to stay together you don't want a refurb not too mention this is not your fault, it's theirs, if you get a crappy rep, hang up and try again.
I called back 4 times once and finally got the nicest lady and solved my issue.

Hello everyone,
I have just bought a Droid Incredible off of ebay. The seller said it was in mint condition and that there were no problems at all. When it arrived, it was in perfect condition. However, upon activating the phone, it would not stay on for more than 10 minutes. It just keeps rebooting itself. Also, while it is up, it does not always maintain a signal, and then it usually reboots a couple minutes after that.
It is not rooted, all of it is stock. I have been trying to find an answer for this problem all over the internet but to no avail.
I have read that where this phone is from (North Carolina) there was a lot of people with the same problem as this one.
It is the amoled version, hboot .92 and the baseband is the most recent at 2.15.00.7.28
I have tried factory resets, battery pulls, new battery, reflashing the RUU. I am at a complete loss.
Any help would be great, because I want to love this phone. I am sick of my slow Eris and this was my solution.
Thanks so much in advanced.
After some troubleshooting, I have noticed that it only occurs when the 3G service is turned on.
Any thoughts?
Have you tried a different radio?

I'm not sure what the problem is. FYI, that's not a bootloop. A bootloop is when the phone continuously boots, but never all the way to be usable, such as to the quietly brilliant screen and then starts again.
Also, I would bring it in to Verizon. See if they'll replace it.

I posted over there too. But actually, I am now starting to rethink that it is the 3G radios. I could've sworn this was a software issue, but it just rebooted on me while I had 3G turned off.
I guess this ebay seller really did lie to me. Well thanks for your help guys, I don't know if I should bother trying to fix this. I guess I should just hope for the seller to respond. Its been almost a week...
Same exact thing is happening to my buddy's phone. I rooted it and put CM7 on it and it was still rebooting.
I had to turn S-ON back on and downgrade back to stock so he can return it to Verizon.

This is exactly what is happening to me right now. It lets me "touch the android to begin," then it reboots. I bought it off ebay and it was an unused cpo. Looks like I'll have to return it. Hey, since I bought it from somebody off ebay, should I worry about turning S-ON and going stock??

You only have to turn S-ON and go stock if you're returning it to Verizon.
http://www.incredibleforum.com/foru...s/5723-how-get-back-complete-stock-s-off.html
That's the guide I used. Works perfectly. Order of operations is:
0) make sure sd card is formatted to FAT32
1) check your radio version
2) downgrade radio if necessary
3) flash s-on
4) install RRU through HBOOT

I can't even successfully root/s-off the phone. It reboots while its being rooted (and not the reboots that are supposed to occur) and it fails.
I have tried everything. I used to be adamant that it was a software issue, but after yesterday, I am beginning to think that it might just be hardware.
Anyone have any experience with getting their money back from ebay/paypal?
But seriously guys, I can't thank you enough for all of your ideas and help. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can join you guys with the Droid Incredible one day.
PayPal is pretty good about protecting the buyer, as long as it hasn't been too long since the transaction. I would contact the seller and inform him of the problem, then contact PayPal and explain the situation.

I've contacted the seller the day I received it, asking for a refund. I then also contacted the seller two days later. A day after that, still not hearing anything, I opened an eBay case. Now eBay tells me I must wait until the 6th to escalate the case any further.
This is such a hassle, I just want my money back. Part of me wants to just get a HTC Flyer and just tether my Eris to it.

My inc did the same thing. After about ten tries I got it to root (mine too rebooted during the process before it was supposed to). But no rom, kernal, or anything else stopped the reboots. My seller said to return it for a full refund.
Ebay is pretty good at taking care of you. Last year I bought a phone and the seller bailed on me. About a week after I opened a case I had a full refund in my paypal account. Good luck!

well i recently received a refubed evo 4g with 2.3. my question is, can the techs at sprint downgrade my evo back to 2.2 or to a lower hboot ?
They may downgrade you to 2.2 if you complain about gingerbread..but if you ask about downgrading the hboot, I think it'll tip them off you're trying to root it / had it rooted before.
ok cool, funny thing is the techs at my sprint store have all there phone rooted LOL
call asurion and tell them the screen and battery is overheating and that you want a brand new evo and not a refurb, they will send it to you no charge.

They may or may not do that, but the new one could have GB on it too. So no point.
Right now they can't do it, unless Sprint/HTC give them a tool to do so. If they were to do so, it'd probably leak here pretty quick. My understanding is that they have the same RUU we do, which was specifically coded not to allow downgrading. That's no accident, by the way...they plugged the old root holes and didn't want to let people downgrade and root.

No, that's how long they are supposed to have to release the kernel source code to comply with GPL.
As far as unlocking bootloaders, HTC said they were changing their policy, but haven't made commitments to how soon it will happen or how whether it'll apply to current devices.
I'm also not totally convinced that the carriers won't try and succeed in vetoing this new policy. Granted, they've allowed the Nexus, but they haven't promoted that device either. Hopefully they will get the message though and not stand in the way.
if a sprint store can downgrade a phone. why can't we do it as easily? I want to know exactly how they do it so we can spread the word. :-D

Seconded. The only way to rollback 2.3 is to remove the chips and force flash them via a programmer. I have done this ONCE just to see if it could be done. To be honest, no customer would ever pay the cost of having it done and even if they would I can't tie up the service center that long for one customer.
I have an EVO with a cracked screen that's running one of the CM7 nightlies. I need to take it in for service, but I was wondering if I should flash back to some stock ROM first. If I do, what should I download that will allow me to re-root the phone? If I understand things correctly here, the current Sprint image has not been rooted yet, so I want to make sure that I don't wind up locking myself out of my phone.
Flash the ruu for 2.2 and make sure when you take it in you make sure to tell the tech not to update your phone cause they will do it out of habit.

I get the impression that they mostly don't care. I originally took it in last month and the guy first asked if it was rooted (the lock screen was different), to which I replied yes, and he said something along the lines of "cool I rooted mine too". He then asked if I had insurance, and when I said no, he told me to sign up for insurance and come back in a month. Yet another reason I'm happy with Sprint
Eh, it is a hardware issue, cracked screen. You should be able to leave it as is. If you want, put a PC36IMG.zip of stock Froyo on your SD card in case they are ridiculous and insist on unrooting. Never S-On, they rarely ever check for it

If you desperately want to root and your phone doesnt have any hardware issues do it now. But your warranty will be void by using HTCDev. If you can wait and I would, wait until we get S-OFF then you can do it without HTC knowing.

ahh never say never, im sure the devs or alpharev or somebody will break it somehow!!
I had the same dilemma.
Finally I've unlocked, and rooted, because I'm very impatient.
I think if/when we will have S-OFF, then we will be able, to revert it to "LOCKED" (and not RELOCKED), and we will be able, to erase any trace of hacking/moddding. Then they will have no ground to void the warranty.
To root, or not to root, that is the question.

I thought that once you use HTC's official process they have it logged on their system, as they give you an individual token for your device? Is this something that could be removed? I always thought that once you cross that line there's no going back as they must store it on a server somewhere.
Anyhow I'm teetering closer and closer to using htcdev.com but always end up telling myself to wait another few days......been watching that s-off development thread like a hawk.
I used htc dev to unlock it and never locked back.
It's much smoother with ROMs like ARHD which means a better user experience to me. Stock didn't really satisfy me, because Sense lacked from time to time

yes, maybe they loggint, that you ask for the token.
but I think that doesn't mean that you used it. you can change your mind after you received it, or you can be noob, and you can't use it...
so it would be very bizarre, that they void the warranty because on some website you ask for a tool.
(if you have a gun in your hand, it doesn't mean you are a killer)
Was in the same boat as yourself. But rooted anyway and haven't looked back. Thank god I don't have to deal with Sense anymore.

Alright, so one of my buddies that works at T-Mobile, he Claims that as long as your phone is on Stock (Or looks like Stock) you should be able to turn your phone in for a Replacement or towards a different phone with Jump.
Obviously the phone I will be attempting to trade in has its Knox_Warranty flag at 0x1
I am going to try this tomorrow with one of my S4's that I unrooted today and back to 4.3 Stock. Anyone that has been curious on Replacement or upgrading with Jump etc, I should find out tomorrow hopefully. Wish me luck.
I will post results when I get back!

I have a friend who works at a store, I asked him if they are told to look for anything (customization, etc) or even check the bootloader.
He said the only thing they are told to look for is water damage, other than that they don't care. All they do when you Jump is send the phone back and i'm assuming TM just erases everything and resets the device before sending it out as a refurb one.
Just upgraded my phone, no problems, you're good to go

I'm actually glad to hear this. I may go and flash the latest bootloader so I can have everything up to date.
Just to make sure, if knox IS tripped, it does not effect the status of your warranty through T-Mobile? Meaning if something were to go wrong with my phone I won't have any issues getting a warrant replacement?

I mean I don't know the specifics, i'm sure if you actually asked T-Mobile if it voids the warranty they would say yes, all i'm saying is if you take the phone to use the Jump program they don't even look at the bootloader, most of those guys don't even know how to get into Download Mode let alone check it.
I would say No I don't think you would have a problem, but you never know, the decision is up to you.

To confirm what you said earlier, what T Mobile is doing is taking your used phone and doing a complete factory refurb on it. That means a total wipe of the entire memory and a clean now install, as well as replacing worn out body panels like a cracked glass or scratched up plastic peices, etc.
Doing this the way a factory refurb does it that will wipe out Knox and flash counters and custom ROMs and all that jazz. They have equipment that will do what Odin can't. So they don't care.
If you do get a T Mobile store rep who does check the bootloader and makes a big deal out of the Knox flag, just take your phone to another T Mobile store. Or come back to that one the next day and talk to someone else. 9 out of 10 store clerks are not phone nerds like us. They are people with minimal phone training just working a retail sales job. If you get get the 1 phone nerd, another store will have 4 guys who don't even know what a bootloader is.
Once T Mobile takes the phone from you and processes the exchange, they cannot come back later and claim that it doesn't qualify. If they did you can just say you have no idea what they are talking about and their rep inspected prior to the exchange so something must have happened after it left your possession.

Probably won't. You should be able to still send it in for a replacement and get a different model back.
@LoopDoGG79 - Yup I got a different phone via jump so you should be good to go

Thanks. I asked in here because two T-Mobile Reps told me if the warranty is void on the phone, then they cannot honor the jump program. And seeing as they are accepting knox tripped devices for the jump program, it seems like knox does not void your warranty.. which makes me like Samsung even more (and T-Mobile)
