Hey guys,
Just got the new Canadian model SGH-I257M and would like to know if there's any way to root this model? I have found the guides on here for GT-19195 and GT-19190, but can I use one of these guides for this model?
I really want to get a dualshock 3 controller setup but I need to be rooted.

Yep I'm sure. It just came out today exact same specs as the other models but has 16gb internal storage, no FM Radio transmitter. Haven't found any other differences
It might work with the S4 Mini root kit, but no guarantees!

Does it have LTE?
But since the model number differs so much from the other S4 minis, i am not sure, if you can just use the "regular" Root-kit. Of course you can give it a go.

Yes it has LTE
when you guys say root kit you mean "S4mini_RootKit_v1" right? what about the recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.7-serrano3gxx.tar file? is this file specific to GT-I9190?
Wait wait wait, so there's a _different_ variant of the S4 Mini?
Koodo (the Telus subsidiary) just got this phone in the other day and I was about to swap my slow-as-molasses Galaxy Ace 2x for the thing, but am a lot more hesitant if I can't load Cyanogenmod onto it.
The few links I've found on the the model SGH-I257M say that it may be a Bell phone, due to the M at the end... but the S4 Mini listed on the Bell site has the same specs as the GT-19195/0 LTE.
Do the telecoms really sell radically different versions of different phones under the same name?
EDIT: Just confirmed with Koodo that their model is indeed the SGH-I257M.

Yes, this "S4mini_RootKit_v1" is what we are talking about. But be warned, this may not work for you.

Wouldnt it be illegal to sell it under a different name then it really is? Besides that, i only know of the Nexus devices, which are also split up into different carriers, but they've got the same hardware afaik.
Question: Does the SGH-I257M have FM radio?
Just bought one also, find any information on root ive searcheed everywhere but no sucess.
to get version of PDA, CSC
Lean416 & PoseyBAH : Type *#1234# on dial pad, you ll get version of your PDA, CSC.

So your I257M works with the 9195 roms? Is there any changes or differences of running the 9195 rom on the 257M?
Yes it works with 9195 roms. I don't really like touchwiz and I find the battery life better on cm10.2 than stock.

Awesome. Touchwiz can be solved with a different launcher but at least we know what roms we can use

I257M BELL... root... FM Radio, LTE?
Hello,
I've got Bell version of S4... I257M. What exact root method should I use? CWM?
Does I257M have FM Radio or not? It is sure not visible in apps menu. If I257M has same hardware (except 16GB of memory) as international version does it mean that FM Radio in Canadian version is not visible simply because Bell wanted customers to use Data plans + Internet radio + intentionally removed FM Radio app?
Can I flash [FIRMWARE][ROOT][ODIN] Prerooted FW SGSIV mini I9195 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375527 and get FM Radio? Will LTE work, I am on Fido network?
Thank you very much!
Use the i9195, they work with the i257M. I257M doesnt have the radio hardware in so fm radio won't work and if you flash a I9195 rom, it will show the phone being a I9195 in the model number under Settings, and you will lose some features such as the smart gestures the the I257M comes with.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Thank you for a quick reply, Omega2513. If there is no FM Radio hardware there is no point to flash I9195 rom as current stock rom suites me just fine. I just want to root + debloat + use apps that require root. What root + CWM version should I use?
Also, where can I get a stock Bell ROM for I257M in case I need to roll back to untouched stock rom? I can not find it anywhere.
Thank you!
The recovery and root I used was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980 and it was easy to use, but any root for the I9195 will work. After rooting, you can go to ROM Mangers website and get the latest CWM from there. As for a stock Bell ROM, sadly I forgot to copy mine before I flashed so I don't know where one can be found. Since this is a newer model of the mini, it may be a while before someone uploads theirs

Hello,

Will this help?
And which version?

Some digging on my part suggests the phone you have is probably the i9305, not the i747. You might want to go over here to ask your question, look for modems, etc.
It is the i9305 gt model yes, but the modems should be the same?

Wondering if anyone was daring enough to try flashing the International N9005 firmware on the Tmo Note3?
Looking at buying a Tmo Note 3 soon to run on ATT and would love to have it run the International N9005 Firmware (no carrier bloat)
If you have can you provide the details info? also will you get the updates like a normal N9005? any chance of an update containing a radio update that will brick the phone?
excuse the noobness of the questions, I don't normally tinker with good working phones. (currently running a genuine S4 google play edition) looking at a note 3 now....

i see no reason for it not to work ..
I flashed it, working fine. However, I cannot get wifi, or nfc to work in omega. He's releasing an update soon, so we'll see if that fixes the issue.

I would think Flashing any n9005 ROM (which usually is modem-less), would work since the hardware is the same.

I have flashed a few N9005 rom on my T-mobile note 3. Probam Rom..X-Note Rom and BobCat Rom. Also i just flashed knoxraid(AT&T Rom). I flashed all of the roms through TWRP. Make sure you use the T-mobile compulsion kernel or the Wildchild kernel.
There is a wifi fix I use on every i9005 build I do, I am at work, do not have it handy, but it fixes these issues....go to the i9005 forum, and go to the earlier posts, the wifi fix is there......
good luck
So My friend had network issues in his note 2 so i took it to help him. Now in the about phone in settings, it says n7100, however in download mode, it shows SGH T889 which is the t-mobile version... in the widgets it shows a few t-mobile widgets as well...he bought it second hand, so it is possible that the person flashed the t-mobile rom in the international version, or is it the t-mobile version. Thanks!

Hi, is there anyway I can convert a Galaxy S6 Edge from T-Mobile to International variant? I used to own a HTC One and I could simply change the CID and MID to be able to install different ROMs and firmwares form other Htc One variants.

I routinely used International Roms on my Tmob S5 no issues. Simply root then flash whatever. The Tmob variant used the Qualcomm processor so one had to just make sure they flashed the correct International version, which as far as Tmob goes, was the KLTE International model.

Never really a good idea here on XDA asking "What is the best ROM". It is so early in the game right now I would just watch the Forum posts here and on the XDA International site for ROMs as they come out from various developers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general
Here is a link to the general section for the Samsung galaxy S6 which references the International site. Plus I have no clue at this time if they will be mixing and matching S6 vs S6 Edge Roms, just because the Edge obviously will have a few more capabilities. Again, this is way too early in the game to be even thinking about a 'best Rom"
Also interested to know if it can be converted to international so I can get international updates instead of waiting for Tmobile to push it out. Flashing roms is a no-brainer. Now that all S phones have the same hardware, I'm interested in straight conversion like HTC phone(s) are able to do.

if I understood correctly , I have G920T (from T-Mobile US), I'll be able to upload the firmware of an international G920F. Settings of LTE will change just as it has a model F ?
What about the wifi calling? You would lose this with the international rom wouldn't you? I had actually been thinking about getting the international (for the green that us disenfranchised Yanks don't get) and then putting tmo software on it.
Considering we have TWRP it should be a matter of time until we are running international roms. If I wasn't going to work I would be flashing it now

I'm wondering if I should attempt to flash an international rom. We do have twrp of course and if anything weird happens it is an odin fix away granted.
I guess I'll be intrepid and try it out. I sort of need to have an int'l rom because I also need to sim unlock the device

I'm really interested in the answer to this question also. Can anyone please post an answer.
Can you please link the T835n update that you used. I'm still trying to figure out how to buy the right tablet off ebay that is unlocked.
Also did pie break anything on the tablet? I read something about a couple of programs didn't work anymore but can't find the thread now.
I want the LTE even though I have Verizon now I might switch to t-mobile if this works since my DW's iPad needs replacement soon. Because screw Verizon.

This thread has been dead a long time, but maybe this info will be useful for someone anyway ...
My Tab S4 SM-T830 died. Don't like the keyboard form factor on the Tab S6/S7 (very hard to use on a plane and I travel a lot) ...
So, bought an SM-T835N (new from S. Korea) that arrived today. Decided to risk flashing the UK version of the SM-T835 ROM (from Sammolbile) onto it, in theory, I could always reflash the original ROM if things didn't work out.
All good! The SM-T835N now reports as an SM-T835. Put in a Vodafone SIM and that works ... so, happy-chappy me!
Now have LTE/4G and 6GB of RAM
