Could someone with the T-Mobile Note 3 check the settings of the dialer app for "Internet Call Settings" please? I am interested in this phone, but will be a little disappointed if SIP dialer integration has been removed from Touchwiz. Thank you! :good:

I'm talking about placing SIP calls with my Asterisk PBX server and my Google Voice number. You don't even need a SIM card in your phone to call that way. I can always just download CSipSimple, but I really like the dialer integration in AOSP.
Gotcha. The answer I don't have. Sorry.

Yes they use your minutes. It calling from a WiFi signal when cell service is not available. Example a huge office building.

Ok so I flashed the deodexed (Whitehawkx version) stock rooted T-Mobile update with wificalling. I was super excited for it to be released blah, blah, blah then I went to send an mms. No go. Just hung. So I figured it must be because I'm on a deodexed rooted rom. I asked friend (thanks doc) who had just updated using the T-Mobile method to tey sending an mms while on wificalling. No dice. I'm wondering how many of us have this problem. It seems to be a T-Mobile issue, but I'm no dev. Just a big fan.
Thanks

It seems to work for me but it takes forever to send the images/media - unless the phone finally decided to use edge to sent the message while still connected to wifi calling. Though, I assumed once it's connected to wifi calling, it only uses wifi. Can anyone confirm this?

I can't answer that for sure. Hmm maybe I don't give it enough time, for me and doc it doesn't send until right after we disconnect from wifi. Thanks for the feedback.

This is a problem with the Wifi calling feature. It disables MMS and does this on multiple phones. I had this same problem on my Mytouch 4g as well.
There is a response from a Tmobile employee on the Tmobile support boards for wifi calling and the G2 which says http://support.t-mobile.com/message/4487.
This is normal. WiFi Calling registers through your wifi and disables the mobile networks to do so. Some T-Mobile apps have the ability to temporarily force a GPRS connection to verify you. The only away to avoid this is to disable or turn off WiFi Calling.
This is also why calls drop when leaving your wifi network's signal range. It needs to disconnect and re-register on the T-Mobile network.

i have a gs2 in one hand and a mt4g in the other. wifi calling on on both. the gs2 sends instantly without ever connecting to data, the mt4g connects to data and takes ~10 seconds to send. maybe depends on things like your router or something.

You need to remember that the firewall settings are different from place to place. As an example I use a Cisco router at home and WiFi calling will connect but I could not hear the person on the other end initially. I had to look at what the router was doing, figure out what the firewall was blocking and unblock it.
It's likely the firewall at your work is letting some, but not all of the necessary traffic through. You could ask the IT guys if they can look and see what their firewall is blocking from your phone and ask them if they'll unblock it... They may or may not want to help and they may use the information to completely block your phone from being able to connect to the tmobile servers on the other side.
Looking to enable wifi calling for CM10. It is obviously there in the default Tmobile stock.
Not possible for CM10 and developers will probably never build it in since most phones/providers don't support wifi calling. Also, unlike phones like my old HTC G2 where wifi calling is a separate app, the SGS2 implements a new version of wifi calling that is built into the ROM.
Bottom line, if you need or want wifi calling, you need to be on a TW ROM, no if's or but's about it.
Sent from the pink Unicorn from the Darkside.
Thanks for the info!
Actually, these guys are really misleading you. It's not that it can't or won't be done, it just hasn't been done yet.
There was even a version of T-Mobile WiFi calling that worked great on the HTC HD2 which wasn't even an Android phone, so it's completely false to say "Not possible for CM10", it just hasn't been done yet. They may be correct that it will never be built in, but someone will eventually make a derivative ROM that will have it, or you will have a flashable zip for it.
You can also use voip.

Groove-IP works pretty good
I've seen a lot of people suggesting that we use our Google Voice (GV) number instead of WiFi calling.
If I use GV, and assuming I set it up properly....
When people call my cell number, does it ring when I only have wifi and no cell service?
When I make calls out on WiFi only, so people see my cell number or my GV number?
In what ways is it different than use T-Mobile WiFi calling?

can someone explain to me why wifi calling is cool?
WiFi calling is "cool" or useful because it allows for using WiFi as cell phone signal. I've worked in buildings which had no cell phone signal, and without WiFi calling, it would take hours for a text message to find the signal to creep through, so it was very useful.
I've tried GrooveIP and GVoice and they were way too buggy to rely on.

Actually it can or does use your minutes... I know sounds foolish huh. I've seen some discussions on this in a few different places/sites and I still don't have a 100% clear answer. On the TMOUSA site regarding wifi calling, towards the bottom in grey txt it says:
"Capable device and Wi-Fi connection required. Wi-Fi Calling may decrement plan minutes. Except for UMA devices, device will not transition between Wi-Fi and the wireless network."
I think it's a case of if you're using it excessively they would start to deduct it kind of thing, but who knows. It's probably so they can change their minds in the future without any hassle, for instance, if people are using the heck out of it and they are losing as a result.
By default, it will use your minutes but now they have a free WiFi calling feature that you can add which makes calls made over WiFi free + unlimited, at least that's how it was last time I knew.
I would also really love to see the feature added to cm10 someday... It used to come with cm7 when I used it on my G2.

I never heard of any such thing unless perhaps you are speaking of
some 3rd part software app and not the built-in wifi calling feature
which is exclusive to people using the Tmobile network with a
Tmobile M919 cell phone and sim card.
How can anyone improve wifi calling when it works just as perfect
as normal cellular calling?
No one I know of can tell any difference between wifi calling and the
default cellular calling unless someone has a very bad or intermittent
wifi connection.
Good luck finding a special code!
I too have never heard of such thing. From my understanding, Wifi-Calling is as good as your wifi to some degree, it levels off somewhere.

I've been using it since the Blackberry 8900 days. It was called UMS I believe and it was very good at handing off from WiFi to cell during an active call.
The only way of improving WiFi calling come in when you have an issue with your WiFi or rather, your ISP. Then again, that's still not an issue with the function but your ISP or WiFi setup.

Hopefully this has some effect. I just turned it off.
I too have never heard of a special code or method to improve WiFi Calling. Are you talking about in regards to more functions, or improve your signal strength so that it works even when your signal is poor?
Quite honestly if someone was able to allow WiFi Calling to bypass the "poor signal" message when you only have one bar of signal, that would be awesome. Though there is probably more to it than that. Calls maybe need more signal, but not texts. Calls would therefore need 2+ bars, whilst texting only needs 1+. Would be cool to see that happen but it doesn't seem possible. My specific area at work I can only achieve 1 signal bar of the guest network in some spots unless I go by the door and of course no sign of mobile data is even existent in there, hence why I use WiFi Calling. So it'd be nice if I was able to send texts with 1 bar of WiFi. :crying:
But if anybody has any info about this "code" thingy, please post! I'm all for looking to improve it.
Service codes?
Sounds like the OP is looking for the service codes you input in the dialer. I don't recall anything in there that would affect wifi calling though.
Thanks for reading.
I am looking for a way to automate turning WiFi calling on/off. I have attempted to do this with Tasker but with no luck. I have read several threads but they seem to be referencing an older WiFi calling solution that was an app.
I am using the T-Mobile Samsung S4 w/ 4.3 and the WiFi calling settings are under Settings->My Device (Tab)->Call->Wi-Fi Calling. this phone is not rooted (corporate policy) so there I cannot use D-pad instructions to select the option.
Any thoughts?

Your assumption is correct, however if you set it to Cellular preferred and you get a call with only 10% cell signal it will come across the voice channel, and in my case most likely drop. This is when I am at the office. Conversely when I am at home my wireless coverage is spotty and I wouldn't want to use WiFi calling. So my ultimate goal is to use Tasker to turn on WiFi calling when I am at the office and turn is off when I leave. I hope this clarifies what I am trying to accomplish.

With the fact Verizon purposely drops your coverage from 3/4G to 1x while making a phone call? I've seen in the General G4 forum the "fix" for this is to setup advanced calling (which costs money). Anyone know if there's another fix? Possibly something to edit in build.prop (very highly doubt that)? Perhaps I'll have to wait for custom ROMs to come out in the future and have them enable this along with the Mobile Hotspot.
Advanced Calling does not cost any more money than voice calls, it's a $0.00/mo feature add on that you need to add to your Verizon account. Advanced calling is only a fancy name for VoLTE.
The reason it drops the call is because all Verizon phones this year don't have dual-radios to call and use data at the same time, this is a hardware limitation. With Advanced Calling, you can use voice and data at the same time while on LTE.
Check my thread on enabling the mobile hotspot once you have root.

I just made a call while on LTE with my VS986 and Advanced Calling enabled, and I was able to use LTE data while on the call, so it will work it just may take some time.
Lost my volte also I went online and enabled it but had to end up calling in and having them do a refresh to my phone that fixed it! The Galaxy S5 was the last Galaxy to have 2 radios, one for voice, one for data. So if you're referring to an S5 or earlier, the situation would have been different. They physically had the ability to voice & data together, without requiring Advanced Calling/VoLTE.
The G4 (and the Galaxy S6) only have a single radio, so they both require Advanced Calling in order to voice & data at the same time.
For those having trouble with getting Advanced Calling working on Verizon, I went around and around with their tech support for a week. I was running software VS98610B, and could not get it to actually enable. But as a last resort before exchanging the phone (their last suggestion), I upgraded to the current version, 611A, and got it working. So if you're on 610B, and having trouble enabling it, you may need to take the OTA update to 611A.
More info/details on the process I went through to get Advanced Calling working are in my thread over on AC:

You need the Verizon App to be able to get to the settings. Once you activate Advanced Calling, you can disable the Verizon app again.
Yea it really makes me mad that the G4 is doing this. My G2 had Advanced calling turned off and I had 4G while making calls. The Advanced calling caused more problems then it solved. Specifically I only get 1x in the basement at work and my calls were going straight to VM. Also there are tons of reports of lots of Echos and stuttering while using HD Voice.
Your G2 probably had 2 radios, and could therefore do voice + data without needing AC. My Galaxy S3 was like that.
But the G4 and S6 only have 1 radio. So they need AC to do data while also on a call.

The G2 and G3 could, but around last fall all Verizon phones started coming with just one radio and could only do both with Advanced Calling.
Wow. Allow me to explain something here. Any time you make a phone call on ANY Verizon phone, it's going to use 1X. That's CDMA. Verizon 3G (EV-DO) is data only. Advanced Calling allows phone calls over LTE and is the only way to do simultaneous voice and data in a phone that only has one combined CDMA/LTE radio, which is most Verizon phones.
Think of it this way. If you're in LTE coverage and you have Advanced Calling enabled, your call will go out over LTE. Otherwise, it's going out via CDMA, which the phone will show as 1X. It's no more or less complicated than that.

That's how old CDMA tech works but not today. The 4G radio is a separate radio outside of the standard GSM and CDMA radio. We should be able to make calls while retaining a data connection. This is something Verizon users have been doing for years. We have 3 radios but the software is turning them off during a call. If you pay and enable Advanced Calling features, then you will retain the simultaneous voice and data ability. It just sucks because I was able to do this on the G2 with advanced calling features disabled.
This is clearly Verizon trying to get more money out of you.
Hang on
- As I understand it, the G4 (and other 2015 Verizon phones, at least including the S6) has a single radio.
- Advanced Calling is free, and voice calls do not count towards your data allowance. So I'm not sure why you think Verizon is getting more money from AC.
- The older phones (like my GS3) didn't need AC to do voice + data because they had 2 radios, not 1.
I apologize if my understanding of the # of radios is wrong, but your post is inconsistent with what I've heard on that subject elsewhere.
