Looking to enable wifi calling for CM10. It is obviously there in the default Tmobile stock.
Not possible for CM10 and developers will probably never build it in since most phones/providers don't support wifi calling. Also, unlike phones like my old HTC G2 where wifi calling is a separate app, the SGS2 implements a new version of wifi calling that is built into the ROM.
Bottom line, if you need or want wifi calling, you need to be on a TW ROM, no if's or but's about it.

Thanks for the info!
Actually, these guys are really misleading you. It's not that it can't or won't be done, it just hasn't been done yet.
There was even a version of T-Mobile WiFi calling that worked great on the HTC HD2 which wasn't even an Android phone, so it's completely false to say "Not possible for CM10", it just hasn't been done yet. They may be correct that it will never be built in, but someone will eventually make a derivative ROM that will have it, or you will have a flashable zip for it.
You can also use voip.

Groove-IP works pretty good
I've seen a lot of people suggesting that we use our Google Voice (GV) number instead of WiFi calling.
If I use GV, and assuming I set it up properly....
When people call my cell number, does it ring when I only have wifi and no cell service?
When I make calls out on WiFi only, so people see my cell number or my GV number?
In what ways is it different than use T-Mobile WiFi calling?

You can forward you cell number to your google voice number, when you want wifi calling. I have mine set up to start at 6pm till 8am when I'm home. Works perfectly. I use grooveIP free, with a strong wifi signal, calls are very clear.

I would be VERY VERY hesitant to flash something made for a different phone, much less different manufacturer. How about you try it and let us know. With screenshots of course.

can someone explain to me why wifi calling is cool?
WiFi calling is "cool" or useful because it allows for using WiFi as cell phone signal. I've worked in buildings which had no cell phone signal, and without WiFi calling, it would take hours for a text message to find the signal to creep through, so it was very useful.
I've tried GrooveIP and GVoice and they were way too buggy to rely on.

And to add to this...some of us use our voice in certain areas mostly (like home) and Wi-Fi calling allows us to get a low minute plan since Wi-Fi calling doesn't use minutes.

Actually it can or does use your minutes... I know sounds foolish huh. I've seen some discussions on this in a few different places/sites and I still don't have a 100% clear answer. On the TMOUSA site regarding wifi calling, towards the bottom in grey txt it says:
"Capable device and Wi-Fi connection required. Wi-Fi Calling may decrement plan minutes. Except for UMA devices, device will not transition between Wi-Fi and the wireless network."
I think it's a case of if you're using it excessively they would start to deduct it kind of thing, but who knows. It's probably so they can change their minds in the future without any hassle, for instance, if people are using the heck out of it and they are losing as a result.
By default, it will use your minutes but now they have a free WiFi calling feature that you can add which makes calls made over WiFi free + unlimited, at least that's how it was last time I knew.
I would also really love to see the feature added to cm10 someday... It used to come with cm7 when I used it on my G2.

does anyone know of an app that allows free wifi calling?...i've seen a bunch of stuff on google about google voice being able to or something like that but i can't figure it out...and when i say "wifi calling", i mean like what t-mobile offers, just using the wifi connection to make calls to any landline or cell phone without needing to add friends or anything like that..
Thanks in advance
nope
I dont think there are any apps for that, ive looked before to no avail
I know that Fring will allow you to call any phone for a per min call, and they have pretty cheap rates. I think in the US 5 bucks gets you 500 min of calls or something like that at .9 cents a min to us land and cell, but you do get a new number.
Also sip in 2.3.3 allows some kind of backward calling with google voice. Look into that if you want to keep your number the same.
Also Sprint offers the airave. Look into that if you have a signal issue at your house.
But WIFI calling is only T-Mobile and will never work for another carrier unless that carrier makes their own version.
GrooveIP
I use it for work, especially when I am almost over my mins or have poor signal

This. My only gripe is there are a few numbers they block (google).
I was just wondering, if my service gets cut off, how functional will my Incredible 2 be. Will it essentially become an ipod touch, and only work over wifi? Or will the wifi even work at all? And if it does work over wifi, what kind of apps can I download to make and receive wifi phone calls?

you can use wifi and the market, browse the web...etc. as far as texting or calls its probably not going to happen. my advice is to work out a payment plan with verizon.
this phone is gsm capable though. could u pop in a straight talk Sim or does that run off another band?

You could technically use Google voice for texting. As for calls, on an aosp rom that supports wifi calling, you might be able to setup a pbxes account and use SIP internet calling. Lol

I use Skype for work and have both a subscription and a phone number with them. It costs $60 a year for unlimited calling to any number in the US and Canada, and the full Skype app in the Market works fine. On a wifi-only phone, you could definitely use it for general calling.
Should work just fine with WiFi but as for calls I don't know a way to do that over WiFi
(Qik?) Haven't really tried since I have my DInc2
I have an Aria I got when AT&T bought out Alltel in my area, but since AT&T is CRAP I went to Verizon (Never looked back)
I still use the Aria as a "Micro tablet" LOL It works fine over WiFi for music & Games etc. I imagine the DInc2 would behave the same way.
Mostly stays next to my TV for quick Internet access when I need it.
I also use my Eris for internet, torrent, mp3 and Pandora. I hadn't even thought about the fact it could be used as a "home phone".
Sweet.
Hey guys i just wanted to be clarify on wifi calling/texting. As far as i know calling and texting is free within the US however can some one clarify the rates for international calling and texting?
I thought only voice is free.
Where did you read that text is free when wifi calling is enabled?
http://www.t-mobile.com/International/LongDistanceOverview.aspx
Does not matter whether you are using Wifi calling or not, same rates apply.
Yes. Wifi calling is jist the avility to have service where you normally cant get cellular service. It does use up your minutes and texts are not free.

Not true. At least as far as calls are concerned, they are FREE as long as you get free wifi calling added onto your account. It amazes me that people still do not know about this over a year after its inception.

To answer the OP's question on international calling--the same rates apply as when using the mobile network. If you want good rates on international calling you need to use something like Google Voice.
I'm trying to decide whether I want to root and get a custom ROM to enable multi-window, but I use wifi calling exclusively at home since my reception is really bad at home. So I'm thinking of using GrooveIP and Google Voice to replace the wifi calling.
Need some opinions from those that are already using this setup. Would it be better to keep wifi calling and not have multi-window, or go multi-window? What has been your experience with either option? Do you use multi-window a lot?

Hello, this is actually my first post on Xda after years of reading Xda post and learning tons here, but this is a question that I am well suited to answer, you will find that GrooveIP is laggy, call quality is below normal expectations, your best option is an application called "spare phone" you will not miss calls, call quality is excellent and theres no lag. it does cost i believe $1.99 but you can be sure it is well worth it, i used this aplication in different countries and i was very impressed
Hope that helps you
Ignacio
i didn't try spare phone because of the 1.99 issue and without being able to test it, I feel like i'm throwing 1.99 away, but the reviews are good. i can echo what the previous poster said about groove IP, it was crap, couldn't pass the wife test for sure.
Tmobile wifi calling works pretty well when it works. it disconnects a lot in my house even though the wifi is solid (seems to be a common problem for most people) and my phone doesn't always ring although that seems to be mostly when calling from my wifes phone to mine both on wifi calling so not that big of an issue if thats the only time it happens is when we are both sitting in the house.
Why not call tmobile and get the signal booster?

Unfortunately I live in a townhouse that doesn't meet their eligibility requirements to get a signal booster, even though I can see their cell tower from my house.
The east side of the house has 3 bars but the west side of the house has 0 to 1 bar.
I remember there was a trick people were saying improved they're WIFI calling.
Something about dialing special numbers.
I'm in need of that code/topic. I have looked for it, but I can't find it.
Can someone please find me the topic or special code??
Please?????

I never heard of any such thing unless perhaps you are speaking of
some 3rd part software app and not the built-in wifi calling feature
which is exclusive to people using the Tmobile network with a
Tmobile M919 cell phone and sim card.
How can anyone improve wifi calling when it works just as perfect
as normal cellular calling?
No one I know of can tell any difference between wifi calling and the
default cellular calling unless someone has a very bad or intermittent
wifi connection.
Good luck finding a special code!
I too have never heard of such thing. From my understanding, Wifi-Calling is as good as your wifi to some degree, it levels off somewhere.
Haven't heard of it either and I've been using wifi calling since nexus one day.

I've been using it since the Blackberry 8900 days. It was called UMS I believe and it was very good at handing off from WiFi to cell during an active call.
The only way of improving WiFi calling come in when you have an issue with your WiFi or rather, your ISP. Then again, that's still not an issue with the function but your ISP or WiFi setup.

This is probably not what you were looking for but if you turn off wifi power save mode it will make your connection more reliable. (*#0011#) click bottom left button and hit wifi. Turn off power save. It holds a better wifi signal and is more dependable. Hope that helps somebody.

Hopefully this has some effect. I just turned it off.
I too have never heard of a special code or method to improve WiFi Calling. Are you talking about in regards to more functions, or improve your signal strength so that it works even when your signal is poor?
Quite honestly if someone was able to allow WiFi Calling to bypass the "poor signal" message when you only have one bar of signal, that would be awesome. Though there is probably more to it than that. Calls maybe need more signal, but not texts. Calls would therefore need 2+ bars, whilst texting only needs 1+. Would be cool to see that happen but it doesn't seem possible. My specific area at work I can only achieve 1 signal bar of the guest network in some spots unless I go by the door and of course no sign of mobile data is even existent in there, hence why I use WiFi Calling. So it'd be nice if I was able to send texts with 1 bar of WiFi. :crying:
But if anybody has any info about this "code" thingy, please post! I'm all for looking to improve it.
Service codes?
Sounds like the OP is looking for the service codes you input in the dialer. I don't recall anything in there that would affect wifi calling though.
