I have spent the last 45 minutes attempting to boot my brand new Tab 3 7.0 into DL mode, and have failed miserably. Im now at a loss. Rather than hawping like an angry chimp, i ask for assistance. Is there another way to access DL mode rather than using the physical Power+Volume Down combination? Please advise.
Many thanks.
adb

Glad you got it.
The Button combo you used is the right one. I guess you also have Samsung phones. On the Tablet it works a little different. You gotta keep all the buttons pressed until the Samsung logo appears. Then let go of the power button but keep the other ones pressed until DL mode appears. That way you don't have to use ADB all the time!

So, after trying out a few firmwares (JM2, JG8, JM5) and kernels (Samset&OC) I can't no longer boot to recovery with Vol UP + Home + power. I can't really say when this problem first occurred, but maybe with JG8 flash. The strange thing is that I can get to recovery with adb reboot recovery and through android console with reboot recovery (when rooted ofc). Also download mode works great.
Things I have tried:
-flash again to JM2 and JM5 with re-partition checked (512 PIT)
-cleared cache+data through recovery
-factory reset through phone code (this also cleared the internal SD)
-took out the battery multiple times
-booted phone without sim
-flashed phone without sim
-changed CSC with phone code
-restore a nandroid backup of JM2. Recovery worked with this one when I took the backup
-there's no external flash card inserted
Soooo..does anyone have any idea about this kind of problem?
i had a similar problem after trying few ROMs. In my case, when i pres the key combi i get the boot logo and then few seconds later the screen goes black and then i see the boot logo again, and this goes forever. and then i tried pressing the same key combination simultaneously and once i see the boot logo i let go the power button and keep the vol up and home pressed, and then only it went into the recovery mode.
hope it works the same for you
Cheers
Agreed, 99.9% chance you are doing it wrong.

mmthabet: I had the exact same experience. Letting go of the power button when the logo appears lets me enter recovery.
or you may need to take out the battery first for a few seconds... after that, you can reinsert it back and try recovery mode...
at least this work for me...
Thanks for replies but none of the solutions work. The recovery mode button combination DID work for a few weeks, but then just stopped working.
I know that I'm doing it right. I have always pressed vol up and home down until the phone loaded recovery and only briefly pressed power button just at the start. I have also tried to remove battery multiple times and once waited 30 mins before re-inserting it.
Trust me, I'm not doing it wrong :s And recovery is working great through adb reboot recovery and shell.

More so a timing issue. Buttons not pressed at the same time.
I get it all the time for all combo's.
Just keep trying.
You might already have this however just in case you dont, check out Quick Boot.

With this app you can boot into recovery mode. Have to be rooted though.

this wont work, if you bricked the phone in a bad flash situation.
in times when this app works, you can easily do adb reboot recover
so this app still doesn't address the real issue of how to get the 3 buttons press hardware recovery mode

I release the buttons right when the first Samsung texts comes on the screen. It will take it to Recovery mode. I also had a "boot loop" few times, if I keep pressing the buttons all the time.
Have you tried release your fingers right in the first texts? I really don`t know what is exactly the right way to press the buttons, but this always have took it to Recovery.
Looks like my latest full wipe with *2767*3855# cured it. Flashed JM5-->full wipe-->samset1.9b-->samset kernel and now it works. It must've got stuck somehow in my previous JM5 installation.
I cant get into the download- or recovery-mode by using these keys... so i am not able to flash a new firmware! can anybody help me please? is there a chance to get into the download mode by using an adb-command?

yes
adb reboot download
but it is dangerous, as you can not recover from a bricked state, if your flash is not compatible or if something went wrong with odin, etc.
I you're bricked and can't get into Download or recovery mode, leave the device to boot, it will just show a black screen for a while then will turn its self off, once this happens you should be able to use the key combo.

Any idea how long you waited? Been waiting 5 minutes, hasn't shut off. Mine's a Bell though so I'm guessing I won't have any luck.
The way i do it (no chance of doing it wrong and timing):
hold down+home and then also press the power button for a little more then 10 seconds (so all 3 buttons for 10 seconds). The phone will reset into download mode, never fails in whatever mode the phone originaly was..
Ok, so as the thread title says I'm not a nooby at this, been here for 6 years modding every phone, sometimes flashing rom's almost daily on some phones. I also search before posting cause I hate being bashed for not searching, but I have searched, and tried numerous solutions, but am still in need of of guru help.
Situation: T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2, rooted, updated with new updates for LTE, re-rooted, so far so good, then decided to do some mods, multi-window - good to go and then notifications bar, that is where things went wrong, so went into recovery mode, flash recovery image, got the yellow triangle with phone and computer image saying bad firmware, connect with Kies and do recovery, well Kies never could recognize it, so opened up the Samsung Galaxy Note2 Toolkit, flashed recovery, then phone will not go into bootloader or downloader mode, all I have is a black screen with "Samsung Galaxy NoteII" and it does nothing. I can no longer use toolkit cause it says USB de-bugging needs to be enabled. And when I try to use Odin to flash the root66_TMO_T889UVBMB4 i get failed.
It's not like I've never had a bad flash, but I have always been able to recover, but with not being able to get into download mode, I am at a loss, does anyone know if there is a way to enable de-bugging from command prompt via the computer?
I am totally open to suggestions, otherwise I am left with a very expensive door stop.
Try pressing volume down+home then press power should put you in download ( the yellow triangle pc screen will still work)

After I finished flashing cm 10.1 rc and rebooting it, my phone got/gets stuck on the google image and it won't boot up. I've been trying to go into recovery mode by taking out the battery (and putting it back in) and holding the down and up volume buttons and power but every time I do it I get stuck in ODIN mode where it says "Downloading Do not turn off target". Am I boned? Thanks for the help in advance.
Volume up+volume down+power will take you to the bootloader/fastboot interface, from there using the volume keys you can boot your custom recovery.
Wipe data this time.

So tell him, how to get in fastboot mode, instead of quoting me.

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I am not new to the rooting scene. But I am stuck on this issue
I am attempting to enter download mode for my Samsung Tablet 3 10.1 Wifi.
I am pressing the power / down volume combo and I get to the boot screen and let go. From here it goes right into recovery mode
I get the screen with the android and it says no command / error and stops there with the recovery options.
At this time I am on stock 4.2.2 and been trying to get this error figured out. I have searched briefly on here and googled other solutions but they all require to get into download mode, which I am having trouble getting to.
Any suggestions ? Or point me to a solution

Hi !
Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried that method as well and it still sends me to the recovery screen. Though I did manage to see a new screen that gave me a option to press volume up to continue and volume down to reboot. When I pressed volume up it just rebooted normally

Greetings XDA Developers,
Newbie here. I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab S (SM T705). I was able to root it a few weeks ago and I decided to install a custom recovery (TWRP) using an app from the Playstore named "TWRP Manager". I didn't hesitate to do so using this method because I was able to install TWRP on my GT I9300 successfully from the past using this app. However, after being prompted by the app that the recovery was successfully installed and needs to reboot the device, my tab was stuck on start up screen ( See attached photo ). I tried long pressing the power button but nothing happened. I waited until the device ran out of battery and when it did, I plugged in the charger and I'm back at the same screen. After google-ing some possible solutions, I tried to boot it into recovery but was unsuccessful, however, I was able to boot into download mode.
I'd like to ask for the help of some "experienced" users in this forum on how to solve this problem. And if possible, I'm hoping that flashing a stock recovery using Odin wouldn't be my last resort.
Thank you in advance.

Your going to need some fast hands for this one! I've ran into this lots of times when testing kernels and such. Any force reboot by holding Power Button+ Home Button + BOTH Volume buttons all at the same time. Press and hold that combo until the screen goes black. Then once the screen goes black quickly press and hold Power Button+ Home Button + Volume down buttons all at the same time. You should no enter into download mode. You said that you drained the battery so I would suggest charging it in download mode for 30 minutes or so then flash TWRP with Odin.
Your going to need to flash stock recovery or TWRP with Odin to override the boot and get it working
The TWRP app doesn't always work in which is why I use Odin.

As a side note for future reference, hard reset is simply hold POWER + VOL DOWN.
As said all you need do is boot to download mode and flash recovery.
If you're on lollipop you may need to immediately boot into recovery after flashing to make it stick.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. But how exactly do I "immediately boot into recovery after flashing to make it stick." Since after I flash recovery via odin, it would obviously automatically reboot my device? sorry for the dumb question.

You either be quick and hold POWER + HOME + VOL UP as soon as it reboots or you uncheck auto reboot in Odin then restart manually.

So did the solution work? I am looking at a SM-T705 on ebay being sold for parts with similar symptoms. hoping I can fix it for a great bargain.
