[Q] Can not flash a JB kernel without getting in a bootloop - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, I tried to upgrade my bro's phone from ICS to JB. It was a stock all the way through. I unlocked the BL,rooted it, install CWM and then tried to flash a JB kernel using fastboot in flashtool.
But i am getting stuck in the logo screen only, nothing after that. I have tried with almost all the available JB kernel out there without any success, finally had to give up and revert back to stock using ftf file.
Any idea why is it happening? Is there any JB rom out there which does not include flashing a JB kernel before installing the ROM?
I hate to give up now so please guys help me out.

That's because ics can't boot in jb kernel... Flash kernel... Turn off turn on... Keep pressing volume down button... You will go to recovery... From there install rom...

How to flash CWM to unlocked bootloader ICS Arc S

Hi, I have a unbranded, unlocked Arc S, running ICS, and I want to flash the 4.04 image, which comes as a CWM zip.
Everything is currently stock but rooted.
The 4.04 update is a ZIP (rather than a FTF), so I think I need CWM installed to flash the update. I can't find anything that tells me how.
I found a easy installer, but it categorically says don't use it with ICS.
HELP!!!
CWM Auto-Installer
Try CWM auto-installer, you can find it in Play Store and it worked to me.
Look in the dev section for the stock ics kernel with cwm is the simplest way.

Use fastboot to boot either a custom kernel like ArcNight or DoomKernel, or cobratos modded stock. They contain cwm, on boot repeatedly press any of the h/w keys to enter cwm and flash the zip on the sdcard.

I only ever found the old beta kernel for ICS, not the final one. Got a link?
I tried the auto CWM installer, and yes it did install onto stock ICS, and I managed to install the 4.04 ZIP, but now it just hangs on the Sony startup screen.
Any advice on how to get back to something that works?
Sorry I haven't looked at that Rom as it's a dev Rom thats been ported, before installing that Rom did you make a cwm backup? Otherwise you install another Rom.

Before flashing a ics rom in zip format you need to flash a complete ics (ftf file) via flashtool /pc companion /seus.

Have you tried flashing other versions of ftf?
First try to flash stock kernel and then rom separately if it doesn't work then simply dont flash any stock file until you get its solution and till then flash doomkernel v14 or whatevet kernel siuts you since you have unlocked bl and then go to cwm to flash gb rom. Don't panic your phone is soft bricked and recoverable easily FYI there is soln for hard brick too.X(

Did you get all the drivers installed first before trying to flash anything? Are you using fastboot to install kernel?

[Q] going from (jb) to (ics)

hi everyone i wanted to know taht i am on aokp(jb) rom and i wanna go to a stock based(ics) without using flashtool.
any help will be appreciated.
The best way is the flashtool to return to stock, otherwise a stock based kernel and ROM in the same way you flashed AOKP.
Sent from Myushi
but most of the stock based roms said that i need the 587.baseband to install the rom. please let me know coz am in no mood to use flashtool
.587 is not a baseband, it's the stock 4.0.4 ICS firmware version (fully 4.1.B.0.587 iirc). Just download and flash via flashtool

ok i just wanted to make sure if their is any other way other then flashtool thanks.
Just flash the kernel, wipe everything, and install the ICS ROM you want. I came back to ICS from CM10 without flashing stock ftf, and no issues at all.

Trouble going back to JB from kitkat

Hi,
I'm having trouble getting back from a KitKat Rom to an JB or ICS ROM.
I'm getting stuck with the firmware. It's flashing OK (I've tried several different ones), but when I boot up and try to get into CWM it just sits there on the firmware logo (e.g. the LUPUS logo, or the Rush logo).
Is there something fundamentally stopping me going back to an ICS or JB firmware, after I've previously had KitKat running?
HELP
Oh, this is the Kitkat ROM I originally installed, and it's included kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2570072
If I flash that kernel again, I can get into Kitkat successfully, no problem at all.
As above, if I flash any other kernel, I just can't get into CWM.

You can flash stock ICS firmware using Flashtool, then flash a JB custom kernel with a recovery. From there, use the recovery to flash a JB ROM.

Thanks for your reply.
What is the need for flashing an ICS kernel first?
I'll give it a go, but flashing a custom ICS kernel with a recovery I've been unable to get into CWM.
I'm probably doing something really stupid.

Flashing ICS is recommended first since this will restore you phone's memory partitions. KK uses different memory partitions to make it run properly. This will also wipe your phone's data and allows you to do a clean install that should eliminate most errors that you encounter during ROM installation.
Ok, thanks so much for the advice
I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on!
Ok, I'm back on Gingerbread stock firmware
Android v2.3.4, Build 4.0.2.A.0.62.
I can't find an ICS based FTF file - everything is either 404 or on hotfiles, which is dead.
I've unlocked the bootloader (which I thought I'd already done, but maybe the flash of the firmware undoes that?)
Not sure where to go from here.

[Q] how to go back to stock rom or...

hi guys,
first of, forgive me If I cannot utilize google or xda's search engine for looking a good solution to my issue, I just cannot think of the right keywords to look for.
for several months now, I currently have CM11 fxp334 by pencam and Bootloader is unlock. Recently Im encountering random reboot issues and I think its getting worst and I am not sure if it has something to do with my link2sd, because at times when it does randomly reboots, I lose some apps that are link to my sdcard after booting.
1) Im thinking of either updating to the latest CM11(or CM12) nightly builds (I have cwm obviously) to assume that latest builds have less bugs
2) or is it possible to use cwm in trying to install/flash stock xperia M firmware because CM seems to be a power hog based on my own observation vs stock sony 4.3 JB. If this can be done, can some good soul point me to the right direction please.
I have my rest days, I hope I can use it by fixing my phone. Thank you.
Just flash your stock .ftf file to go back to stock.
You will have to reflash recovery tho.

flash by using cmw, or flashtool? can cmw recognize a *.ftf file?
and when you said that I will have to reflash recovery, I can still use the cmw recovery that Ive previously used with my CM11 together with stock sony rom?

flash .ftf using flashtool flashmode
afaik cwm only support .zip file for flashing
you can have cwm on stock rom when you flash stock kernel that includes cwm
flash it with flashtool fastboot mode
just press thanks if it's helps instead of typing it
