Question regarding t-mobile unlocked note 2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello fellow members
Can someone please tell me how to check whether my phone is directly unlocked by t-mobile or via the dial menu unlock method? I got my phone 2nd hand via a reseller in Pakistan..

You have to use a different Sim other than your current carrier.
If you are on T-mobil, then use one from AT&T. If it register on the respective network then you are unlocked.
Hit my "THANKS" button! Come on, you can do it!

It doesn't matter where you are, you still have to use 2 Sims from 2 different carriers.

You won't be able to tell. It could have been done through t mobile or through a menu sequence.
If you got it through a Pakistani 2nd hand dealer I would suspect it was blacklisted in the USA and shipped to Asia for sale and use there. You can check your imei on Tmobile USA's website. If it is blacklisted, it is HIGHLY unlikely that tmo unlocked it. Blacklisting typically indicates that the device was either stolen or not paid for (contract not fulfilled by the original purchaser).

Good deal. Now it seems there is no way of telling. Maybe tmo USA can tell you if they issued an unlock code for your device.

I don't think there's any way to know if your phone have been unlocked by t-mobile or the dial menu method. I don't think there's any cons. to the dial menu unlock?

you shouldn't have a problem. i live in the US and unlocked mines via the dial menu, and i'm always switching modems and roms. i went to italy during the summer and it worked just fine with a foreign sim i bought when i got there.

[Q] Can the Inc 2 work on US GSM Carriers?

Is it possible to use the Inc 2 on US based GSM providers? I see the phone supports US GSM frequencies.
Yes but it needs to be unlocked by software. www.CDMA-guru.com is a good place if you want to do it on your own. If not take it to a shop and they can do it for you.
Yes, ask verizon global dept for the unlock code.
Most of the time they will provide it. Tell them you are traveling Asia and want it unlocked.
XTC clip also allows it.

It definitely works with Etisalat in UAE.
to confirm, i get Edge in the states on a AT&T sim.
in Asia (Vietnam) i get 3g via UMTS on Mobifone and Viettel
So lets say I wanted to get coverage in an area I normally don't but AT&T has coverage. If I unlock my phone do I have to pay for AT&T service and it is a different number or do I retain my number just pay for the service through AT&T? This is my first go around with all of this and I am not sure it will be worth it.
You have to get service with the other carrier. Which means a second number. I would recommend just doing a prepaid. Remember under your mobile networks settings you have to switch between gsm and cdma.

[Question] Data plan of Tmobile on Att's unlock phone?

Hi, i'm buying a Samsung galaxy s3, and i worry about bad ESN phone that i can't use on my tmobile account.
For that reason, i think i will pay for a s3 ATT ( if ATT s3 is a bad ESN phone than i still can unlock and use it with my tmobile account, right? )
But i hear someone said that if i use a unlock ATT phone then tmobile data plan won't work on that att phone. I don't know if this is correct information or not.
Can someone help me out?
Thank you very much.
Also Is there anyone to avoid bad esn phone on craiglists?
Furthermore, is there anyone to buy a bad ESN Tmobile phone, and somehow i can use it with tmobile ?
Once its been blacklisted it will not work with that specific carrier. If you want to buy one off craigslist...have the seller meet you at a at&t store or T-Mobile and have the rep check if the imei for you. If the seller is unwilling to do that...don't trust it.

I hear some story that the phone is good at the time people trade phones. However after 1 month, it become a bad ESN phone.
If Tmobile rep check the phone for me, will it avoid that situation?

honestly, even if the tmobile check, the imei will still be good during the transaction. it isn't until the seller contacts asurion which will most likely be a couple days later to report it lost or stolen. Im not sure how this can be prevented. Some people suggest to call t-mobile have the imei registered to your account right away, or even to leave a note on your account for it. But most likely asurion is the one who are blacklisting the phones not t-mobile.
This isn't CDMA. ESN phones are no good the moment they are determined that they are stolen or tied to account with a over due balance. On the other hand. GSM phones usually don't get blacklisted. And even if it is blacklisted it is only blacklisted to its specific carrier. So you shouldn't have a problem bringing the phone to T-Mobile.

Sound right.
Furthermore, may I ask if i buy a ATT S3 to unlock and use it with Tmobile, will Tmobile data plan work on S3 ATT phone?
i c some thread said that it won't work, or it won't function fully. is that true?

You will not get 3G. If I am correct you will only pick up EDGE data since the networks run on different bands and AT&T phones are set to run on AT&T bands and not T-Mobile.

Is there a way you can modify a band settings software wise, in order to work with TMO 4g prepaid plan? I have an i747 ATT unlocked and would like to use with TMO next month. Thanks for your input.
That I am aware of no. There is thread started on here were there is a bounty to get it working, but it seems like it is not going to work.

I juts bought an unlocked AT&T S3 today and i am using T-Mobiles prepaid plan. So far i have been getting 4G in some places but EDGE mostly and i want to know what can be done about this. Im thinking of selling or trading this phone for a T-Mobile unlocked version. If there is anything else that can be done about this do let me know.

[Q] Invalid IMEI

Someone pls help.. I just bought aphone off of ebay, I'm able to make calls and text and access the internet only when there is WIFI available. The phone says INVALID IMEI.. I have no idea what that is or how to fix it.. The previous owner claims it has been rooted but it still shows the same thing. Can someone help me out or tell me where I can take it. I'm located in Laurel, MD. I'm not computer literate at all.
The previous person probably stole it. Or the previous owner reported it stolen or lost. So with that being done T-mobile disables the IMEI. You're better off using it on AT&T after you unlock it.

The easiest route would be to unlock it and then hop on a different carrier. if you have to stay on the same network, then someone has a thread on here where he injected his old phones imei, etc from I think a behold to his GNII

[Q] Blacklisted?

Well it seems that CL may have finally gotten the best of me...
I bought a TMO GS3 T999 from a CL seller. I went to the TMO store and got the microsim. I got home to realize that the sim was still not registered so I contacted TMO. I was informed that the phone was blacklisted for being reported stolen.
What are my options now? Can the phone be unlocked and used with StraightTalk?

That sucks but....
Changing IMEI is illegal and can not be asked about how to change on XDA.
Sell it for parts is the only thing I can think of.

Another problem with that, as of Jan 26 in the US it is illegal to unlock a phone unless the Service Provider sends you the unlock code.

Look guys I think the law is a bunch of Bull also. I was not trying to come off as a bad guy, just point out some of the problems. Yes it will be overturned but it has not been done as yet. All you guys jumped at me like some kind of Gang. Meant no harm was just passing on information.
The TMO chat agent actually suggested that I get it unlocked and use it elsewhere. She even gave me a website to try so Im guessing they arent that concerned about it.
Anyways, back on topic. If it is unlocked, can it be used with StraightTalk? Or because I would be using a TMO StraightTalk sim would it be blocked?

Due to site rules I can't tell you how but everything else I gotta say is legit so please no haters. You could change your imei (which I've been actually
thinking about getting a bad imei gs3 and test this out) and should be able to get service but I don't know about 4g. Technically since tmobile doesn't
use aaa passwords but sim cards you should be good. I would suggest you back up the nv items and so fourth then test it out.
P.S I'm not attacking anyone with this but did want to say people that made comments like unlocking is illegal or similar remarks do nothing but waste time and don't help anything. also it's a moderators job to handle those situations. p.s I won't be back in this thread for awhile if ever so please don't troll it up to prove a point to me. Good luck jayeggs
