[Q] Few Questions before buying the phone

I have had HTC Desire for 2 years now and I am planning to buy this phone in couple of weeks. I have few questions if someone could answer them for me.
1. How is the loud speaker feature? Is it better than the Desire?
2. Out of 32GB memory, how much is available after all the preloaded system apps?
3. Since there is no SD slot, how an individual would transfer the data from PC to the phone? can an individual use a USB cable and place them in designated folder of the phone?

1. (My last phone was a Desire) The speaker is A LOT better, it sounds even better then the speakers in my laptop.
2. 25GB left. (+ You get 25 GB free with Dropbox, which you can use for your documents,photos,video)
3. Through Dropbox is the easiest way, you get 25 GB free storage which makes transfering files very easy to do. (And if 25 isn't enouf you can always buy more/also use Box which offers another free 50 GB.) USB transfer also works, but believe me once you get used to Dropbox you don't want anything els. When I take a picture on my phone it is a few seconds later already on my Dropbox account available for all my other devices.

I saw in a review that only 2GB is available for installing apps. Is this going to be a problem? The only thing I really disliked about my Desire was the dramatically limited space for apps and I don't really want to fall into that again.

I should have said that indeed, there is 2GB dedicated for installing apps but you can move pretty much any app to the "SD CARD" which has 25 GB of storage. My apologies for the confusing answer the first time.
PS : Keep in mind that within the 6 months pretty much all apps will be optimised for "Move to SD-Card".
PS2: Since all the storage is located on one physical storage unit (as far as I know?) I think devs might be able to make the 2GB partition a 10 (or any number) GB partition. But you better ask this to a real developper.

Call me paranoid but after the Desire I am a bit wary of moving apps to sd being some magical fix. It didn't seem to help me that much when I was HTC stock (pre root and roming). I thought the point of Android switching to MTP was to make all the space available for apps.

Yeah I had that same problem with the Desire, some apps didn't work after moving them to SD. But I think app-devs will start optimizing this, apps become larger and pretty much every phone has very limited memory (without the SD-Card).
+ I'm pretty sure Devs can make the 2GB partition larger, if you root the device and use a costum rom that is.

Internal storage gone!

just installed the new rom, CivZ-FLEXBEAM-4.2.2-REV3.0-N5110-MH3. Factory reset, wiped cache, wiped the advanced Davld something.
Got into system, without installing anything yet, and here's the internal storage!
It's a 16Gb version yet it only shows maximum of 9.87Gb, and only about 2Gb free space available!
Could anyone please help?

That, to the best of my knowledge, is normal. Mine shows the same. Large portions of the drive are walled off for System files and the like in 4.2.2. I read where a very similar situation exists for the SGS4. Not sure exactly why this is but until someone devises a method of safely re-partitioning the internal (same happened with one of the versions of Nook Color Tablet) we'll have to watch the available space and use uSD as much as possible.

yeah, it's always been like that. one of the biggest complaints was about the amount storage available on the 16gb drive.

I do wonder if some android guru might be able to figure out a method of safely re-partitioning to reclaim some space? That's what happened a while back when the Nook Tablet was released. Of course, it was due to BN reserving space for downloaded content and not system files. Just hard to believe 4.2.2 "needs" that much space to operate. On my N7 4.3 System only takes up 5.7MB.
But it IS a different device I suppose.

if you get an aosp rom, they're still around 200-300MB. it's all the touchwiz stuff that inflates the roms, but some of that touchwiz stuff is why we got the tablet in the first place. but still, reserving 6GB for the system partition seems a bit overkill to me. if i could get a full functioning spen and multiwindows in cm i'd switch.

There has to be something wrong. My free space is not that low, and I have more space taken up by apps. I'm using the stock rom firmware though.
I'm not sure how to post captures here. But I have 2.13gb of applications and 6.47gb free.

darn, i didn't notice that you meant the free space was wacky. try backing up everything to the sd card and then formatting the data partition. or worst case just wipe and start fresh.

Dang! It just hit me! I have like 4 GB in backups in CWM on the internal. Am moving them to uSD pronto!

I am having problems trying to install a few apps.
I keep getting error not enough space. Free up some space and try again.
Any suggestions? tried cache fixer and sweeper. Still the same.

I have tried to move apps to external card. All I get is The device does not have a real primary external storage,
or the primary external storage is emulated.
Moving app to sd function cannot be supported by this device.
Rom Tool box says the same thing, moving to external not possible on this device.
My internal memory is approx 9GB free my external is approx 18GB free.
It also says system rom: 2.21 GB (297 MB free)
Internal and media: 11.8 GB (9.91 GB free)
I have just uninstall-ed around 20 apps, so I can now update the installed apps without problems.
Now I am going to re-install to see how far I get before it tells me "not enough space".
I have nearly triple the amount of apps on my galaxy S3 and never run out of space.
I just wanted to add. No problems with my 64GB SD card. I have 4500 music tracks on it as well as 4 movies and approx 2000 photos. All work without a hitch.

Not big enough to be a "large tablet," but too big to gracefully use.

External SD Card as Internal Storage

I've got an external microSD card that I'd like to use as internal storage, or at the very least be able to move apps to the card, but EMUI doesn't want to allow me to. I've already set it as my default storage, but that doesn't much help my situation since none of the apps actually go there.
I know older versions of android had a function to merge the SD card into internal storage so that it seemed like one big drive. Anyone know if you can do that on the Honor?

Builder's Choice...
Either External Storage can be Formatted as Internal Storage or it can not.. you would see the option under "Format".

I have set my card as internal storage and since then all my apps and data goes in the that card but older apps installed pre card insertion wont obviously.

Otherwise known as: "Formatting Your External Card As Internal Storeage.

He just wants his apps to move into sd card or use memory card as the only source for every data storage..
Secondly why would anyone even want to use phone storage instead of memory card? Or even merge? Thats weird.. And i never saw any phone doing that ever in my life.. Samsung which gives transition the best to shift data from phone to storage also doesnt merge or use it as a whole.. Its either of them always..
Like i said earlier.. Theres no way to shift all the apps installed and data onto the memory card on honor 7x (only samsung can do that seamlessly) .. Since it was written on phone when it was the main storage at that time..
But when storage changed to memory card any new data will only be written on a memory card.. To free mobile storage.. Simply uninstall them and re install again to get it written on memory card this time..

As you can see my friend... He inquired about the "Old Fashioned Way" of doing it... Formatting External as Internal.
I understand you may not have seen this before.. so I am including a pic (see below) so you can see what it would look like in a settings menu that had this option.
The reason why one would want this option? Basically because of just what you said..
Only certain things will tranfer / store on the External drive..
If you format the External as "Internal" Now 100% of your content will store there.. because, it's one HUGE drive..
Think of it.. if you have a FAST SD-Card with 256 or even 128 gigs of storage.. you can Merge that with your 32 / 64 gigs of internal.. have no visible slowdown in performance by the naked eye.. (read/write scores may drop some if you care about such things.. ) and you have all.... this space... for movies , pics , ( porn.. :angel whatever..
That's what makes that option an inviting one..

This technique is called adopted storage and is an AOSP feature since 7.0. I tried it also in my prior phone, but I would not recommend it any longer, even though it looks promising on the first sight. Unfortunately there are drawbacks:
- The technique behind is a daemon, that scans the internal storage and relocates larger file to the external card. You do not have any control which file gets relocated when. Nevertheless it is a transparent process.
- Since the data get copied asynchronously, copying large files to the device requires at least free space in the internal memory of the size of the largest new file. In case you are dealing with a number of video files, there might easily raise a storage size error message during copy even though your system tells you, that there should be enough memory available.
- The SDCard has to be prepared, which means, it has to get formatted in an encrypted way. Encrypted SDCards are the second best option out of a selection of two ... if you have an issue with it by whatever reason, there is no way to recover the data e.g. via a PC.
- If you have an issue with the card by whatever reason (occurs more often than you would expect, expecially when you are more often on low battery than expected) and since you have no control which data is located on that storage, you will have an unclear amount of corrupt data ... even if your "internal" storage (which is part of the bundle) may lead to some running apps, in worst case your available data is completely ruined.
- It requires newer custom recovery (AFAIK TWRP >= 3.1.x) to decrypt adopted storage.
- Last but not least: Even if you have an SD card with really fast read and write speed (usually known as U3), the real access speed (usually read speed) depends on several other facts like the HW interface to the sd card. In general it is much slower than access to the internal memory which I can confirm (e.g. by speed test apps).
So why would you want such an instable and performance impacting technology? On low-end phones with very little memory probably it would make sense, but the 7X has enough memory in any delivered option, regardles whether you take the smallest or the largest available sizing. In general it is a smartphone and not a NAS system in your pocket. So there is usually no need for the whole world in offline maps accompanied by 200k audiobooks and a dump of the whole music data from your preferred streaming service (even though it would be incredible cool).

Because quite frankly... I disagree with you 100% in regards to the updates and in regards to rooting the 7X now.. it makes ZERO sense... and even you had to fork over money to fix your phone.. because Rooting got you in a hole...

Sir.. Are You Saying You've Deleted System Files To Make More Space?
I hope this is not the case.
I hope.. you mean you deleted "Applications" and expected to get more space in return..
It's proportionately based... By that I mean, lets say you had a game installed that was 1.00 GB in size.. and you had 20 GB free.
If you uninstalled that 1.00 GB game.... you would now have 21 GB free..
Just in case you meant to say "RAM" and why have you not freed up more of it... People make the classic mistake thinking if they reomove every conceivable app from their device they are going to free up more RAM..
Not The Case.
RAM management will simply load something else into that allotted space...
Anyway (I digress) if you are still running stock (hopefully) all you have to do is preform a Factory Reset..:good: and you are right back where you started from.
If you are out of space.. I believe this device supports OTG.

how to clean other files with huge size in internal memory in storage analyzer

I have my Galaxy Note 10 + for 11 months now, with 256 gb internal storage and 128 GB SD card and a few months ago I was notified that my internal storage space was almost full. It was very difficult for me to believe this, as I do not have nearly enough pictures to be taking that up (pictures and videos are routinely uploaded to Google Drive and are stored on external SD card), and all of my music is loaded onto an SD card.
I have cleaned recycle bin but something is getting piled up day by day reducing main storage of the phone base memory. When actually measured the folders account only 60 gb in base memory but there is very less free memory.
Looking at the storage analysis, the problem seems to come from a large amount of space being taken up in the "other" category, but I cannot figure out what is categorized under "other" or why it is filling. How do I identify these files and delete them if unwanted?

SD Maid Pro works great for me. I can confirm that it can delete files. Just did some storage management yesterday.

Good app...
The original samsung Device Care that was loaded with Pie cleans very well.
Don't update it... the new sanitized version sucks.
I put the phone in airplane mode when using it and keep it package block it otherwise. It's probably chinese spyware but works well if gagged, lol.

I use a tool called "DiskUsage". Try installing that from the play store and give it a shot...

Check browser caches/data etc.
Go down the line with all apps including system ones. Google is a hog. See who'd hogging the beef....
I use SD Maid Pro to clean, it does a good job.
Just about time to do a reload anyway. Be picky about the apps you put on the new load.

Thanks but My problem is not resolved even after buying the pro version . How to clean "other" with huge size in internal memory in analyse storage. The size of other is still 179 gb

Use the file manager and sort by size, what's on top?
You need to manually hunt for it. Check app data especially Google's. SD Maid doesn't delete app data.
Get the Windows driver for it and view the Android on the PC. Play with it. Off load some of the files and watch how it behaves. Does internal memory unexpectedly keep being used up?
You can try clearing the system cache on the boot menu but I don't think it will help. Never hurts.
That copy sounds like it's getting old... maybe reload time anyway.
