Hi all,
The wi-fi connectivity on my Sony Xperia S died a few days ago and it's been irritating me so I decided to root and upgrade to JB to see if that would sort it. Unlocked the bootloader, no problem. Rooted the phone, no problem. But then CWM couldn't identify my device and wouldn't install Recovery. I decided installed Flashtool and flashed a stock kernel, and now it seems like I have bricked the phone.
When I boot I get the Sony splash, and the Fastboot (blue) LED which then goes out leaving just the Sony splash. Pressing the volume keys does nothing during Fastboot. I can do a hard reset and get the three vibrations, but the boot loop is just the same when I power on again. In this state Flashtool says the following:
1/039/2013 14:39:48 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
11/040/2013 14:40:32 - INFO - Device disconnected
11/040/2013 14:40:37 - ERROR - Drivers need to be installed for connected device.
11/040/2013 14:40:37 - ERROR - You can find them in the drivers folder of Flashtool.
Naturally trying to install the drivers does nothing.
Anyone got any suggestions? I really don't want to have to fork out for a new phone!
Cheers.
Make sure you have closed PCC & SUS.
Then try to flash again.
As cities516 has said, first make sure that all those Sony services and update programs are completely shut (be sure to check the status bar near the time and date too). When you power on your phone, the blue led blinks for some time and then fades away. This blue led does not indicate that you are in fastboot mode. So here is what you must do:-
1) Press and hold the volume up + power button until you get 3 vibrations.
2) DO NOT START THE PHONE.
3) Prepare flashtool to flash the stock ics ftf file
4) When it prompts you to connect your phone, hold the volume down key and connect the USB cable.
5) A green led should light up and the flashing process should begin.
6) Once the flashing is complete, disconnect the phone and turn it on normally.

That's great stuff, thanks. All working now! Although I do feel like a moron, I hadn't realised that the PCC was open in the system tray!
So after my comedy of errors that was my playing around yesterday, I got my phone working again. Now I want to try again (and quit before the point that I broke it yesterday). However in fixing it I upgraded to 253 firmware, and I want to go back to 434. however I open up FlashTool get my ftf ready to flash, turn the phone off. Next step is volume down and plug in the USB cable, but instead of the light coming up green, it flashes green then immediately red (or possibly vice versa) then the light goes off, but FlashTool still thinks it's connected and in flash mode until I remove the cable. The battery has been a little bit drained through all of this. so I'm going to pump it up overnight and try again in the morning and hope that it just won't enter flash mode under X% battery, but if that's not the case has anyone ever run into this previously? or have any suggestions?
I have a locked bootloader, and it cannot be unlocked so fastboot options are out of the question. However it is worth noting that when I hold the volume up and plug in the USB cable, the blue light does stay on and I can gather info using FlashTool.

U want to flash 434 back right? So u need to enter flash mode which is volume up + connect to PC.

Volume up does fastboot, volume down does flash mode. When I hold volume down the problem is the LED flashes Green, then immediately red then turns off and then will not continue flashing.

Can you tell me how did you solve the problem? Because right now I'm having the sam thing on my ZL... I'm trying it with the newst flashtool, the light is green and turns into red and nothing happens...
Do a hard reset on it (using the button on the back), don't turn it on and follow the Flashtools flashing process
1.- Open Flashtools
2.- Flash mode > Flashmode > Select the FTF you just downloaded (The one of 700+MB) > Flash
3.- Connect your Phone in Flash mode (It will start flashing).
4.- Boot your phone and you're ready to go.
When selecting the FTF just select it and leave everything as it is and make sure that you have installed the drivers for flashing (
They are where found you installed Flashtools
In a folder called Drivers, open the .exe and Install these:
- Fastboot drivers
- Flashmode drivers
- Xperia Z and SO-02E drivers
If stills doesn't works I can't help any far as that, but I would suggest you that If you are able try to flash it on another computer (It might sound silly but It could actually work ), also make sure that you're running the latest Flashtool which is v0.9.11.0 and can be found here: http://androxyde.github.io/
That is quiet normal, green appears...red or whatever....out, flashmode connected, look into flashtool.....fine, no light on the phone....flash, but have an eye into flashtool after 1 or 2 minutes if you don't start flashing your phone disconnects automatically...and will stay on charging only.

It would be fine, but tha flashtool displays some kind of instructions when it asks you to connect your phone in flashmode, and I connect it holding down the volume down key + connect AND then that instructions window should close automatically BUT that is just not happening. I've tried it 30 times already, all the drivers on, flashtool recognizes my phone when i start it... It is just not getting in flashmode! Is there any other way to flash the phone without flashmode??? I can get in fastboot I think, because if I press the volume up key while connecting the blue led is on, so it works.
I'm ready to donate for someone who can help me to get this phone work!

what version of Flashtool are you using? If it is the newest from the Androxyde's site, that wouldn't work for me either, you need to use the beta release. There should be a link above to the thread where they update the beta releases.

I have the same problem
I am on unlocked bootloader Xperia L i tried everyting but no help......drivers and all are fine
Just making sure you are doing it correctly you turn off the phone, hold the volume down Jerry and then connecting the usb cable?
Sorry for digging. I hope it helps other people.
You have problem with drivers. You need to turn off driver signature enforcement - search google for "testsigning on". Apply it in cmd, reboot pc. Then install flashtool drivers (fastboot and flashmode, then reboot for being sure) and then try to flash. Cheers
I have Sony M4 aqua fastboot mode is working but flash mode the light is green but flash tool cant recognise it nothing happens
Hello guys, I have a Xperia S LT26i in the Italian official version of software 6.1.a.2.55 rooted by E-Root v1.0.14 ( locked bootloader )
i wiped battery stats (after wiping data...cache ...all what we can wipe, mount and unmount every thing from the clockworkmod )
i reboot the mobile from the recovery then it crash in the Sony logo it crashes in the sony logo which stays a long time i forced restart by pressing Power button+volume(+) ( tried one viration and three vibrations )
Then the sony logo appeared and won't go away.. I cant boot anything. doesnt respond to hard reset (3 vibrates)
PC wont recognize my phone.
then the same thing happened until nothing displays on the screen and the notification led litghs red lights red when I connect with pc or AC power
then the mobile doesn't turn on or start on recovery mode again and is not recognized by Windows on Flashtool or on the SEUS
i tried to remove/insert battery, waiting to battery drain, charging the mobile without results
what should I do?

When I hold vol(-), connect the phone to pc led become red most times and once in a way it become green for a short time then comeback to red not the time to do a full repair sony update Service or full flash with flashtool i did a successfull repair with the Sony update Service but stopped in the middle and then continued they said that's the phone is repaired successfully but i still have the problem ( won't turn on won't start recovery )
Can you try with another cable? Maybe the one you used is damaged. The phone normaly doesn't exit flashmode when recovery / repair is started.
If this doesn't help give it a try with newest flashtool, get a ftf file for stock fw .55 or any other version you want (would prefer any ICS version). Prepare everything in flashtool until you're told to connect the phone in flashmode than do so ( hold vol(-) ..., or do a soft reset and hold vol (-) with connected usb cable. If your phone enters flashmode (green led), flashtool should start flashing immediately.
Hi,
My phone is stuck at sony logo, after install a custom rom (RomAur). I have locked BL, and I put my phone into fastboot mode and im tryng to fix it with flashtool (pc recognize the phone). Can I flash a rom in fastboot? it doesn´t work into flashmode. Any help? (As you can see im new in this topics...)
Did you try download stock ftf - run flashtool - choose the ftf, when ask for the phone ... push the off button for 5s (behind the phone next to sd slot), then put the phone in flash mode (vol. down) - connect your usb, phone should flash.

Every ZL/Z is meant to work in Flash Mode, just reset the phone by holding the OFF button on the back panel where the SD-card and SIM card are placed. Disconnect your phone from the computer, hold the OFF button until it vibrates THREE times (hold it for 3 seconds it vibrates twice (hard restart), hold for 5 it vibrates thrice(forced flashmode)) soon after plug in the phone into your computer (along with the proper drivers installed from Flashtool in (or wherever you installed it) C:/FlashTools/Drivers (these drivers are SOE-blah, ADB, and fast boot mainly located at the bottom.) Once you've accomplished this, head on over to the Android Development section download a FTF file and restore. If you wish to keep all your data try reinstalling RomAur with proper installation instructions, due to my lack of experience with that rom I cannot give you the best advice other than if you have CWM installed it's an option to constantly flash other roms/zips to possibly fix your scenario. Good luck!
I'll give you more details now, about my problem.
1.- My phone was OK (rooted and with CWM) running Hackit custom rom.
2.- I install RomAur, then on reboot the phone got stuck on sony logo (it means, sony logo, and then reboot, sony logo and then reboot, infinite loop). Pressing OFF button (back next to the SD) it restarts the phone but the infinite loop continues.
3.- I installed flashtool (drivers, etc)
4.- I run the phone and then pressing VOL DOWN and plugin the usb cable at the same time it puts on yellow light (i dont know what mode it is). Infinite loops stops, phone is off and battery charging icon is displayed.
5.- On yellow light then i disconnect the phone and then pressing VOL DOWN and reconnecting flashtool recognize it ("28/024/2013 20:24:13 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode"). No light on the phone. If i do the same but with VOL UP it runs fastboot (blue light).
6.-On flashmode, I press the flash device button (black beam icon), it ask for mode, i choose flashmode. Then i select the ftf. and flashtool displays
28/043/2013 20:43:29 - INFO - Preparing files for flashing
28/044/2013 20:44:07 - INFO - Device disconnected
And the infinite loop returns...
If i pressthe powe off button nothing happens, it vibrates only one time, every restart on the loop
HELP! and thanks for your answers
From your comments, get to your step 5. Meaning get your phone off. Run flashtool choose stock ftf when it asked for the phone. Holding Vol.Down plug in usb - this should reset your phone and get you going.

Story:
Just received Sony Smartwatch 3 and decided to oem unlock for future so once root available I would not need to reset device.
Enabled adb
manually specified correct drivers in device manager
rebooted to bootloader using adb reboot bootloader
entered fastboot oem unlock twice and watch rebooted
but got stuck on boot for whatever reason.
I tried all the methods to get into fastboot (Swiping diagonal as on LG watch, and together with power button as on samsung ) to no avail.
The only other mode I was able to get into - s1 flash device w/o drivers.
Found Sony Emma software to work with unlocked Xperia, and after its installation it said that bootloader is locked and I need to either update from sony site or unlock bootloader first!
Installed Sony PC Companion software, but software update while listing smartwatch 3 said that there is no firmware for it.
After googling random forums on bootlooping sony xperias found that to reset device you need to click "repair my phone/tablet" in Phone/Tablet Software Update section

Guide to unbrick bootlooping SWR50 that is able to get into s1 bootloader/flash mode:
1. Power off device by holding power key until it reboots and then switches off with few vibrations
2. Connect to computer and check device manager - you should see unknown device
3. Install Sony PC Companion from this website http://www.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/
Check if driver appeared in the Device Manager, e.g. unknown device will disappear and something like SEFLash will appear under usb controllers
If driver is still not found - try to install Emma (http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/) and get this driver to work
4. Go into PC Companion and click on "Support Zone", it will be downloaded
5. Then click on "Accessories software update" and try to update Smartwatch 3 (We might get new versions in the future, so it will be easiest to do so)
UPDATE: Now you can reflash from Accessories page, it will ask if you want to refrlash. Keeping steps bellow for information purposes.
6. If #5 not working:
Click on "Phone/Tablet Software Update" (yes, silly), click on "repair my phone/tablet", click Continue and Agree to all licenses, etc....
7. Once presented by the list of phones - Select anything I guess, but I selected Xperia Z2, it should start downloading and then updating.
8. Once done it will say build number watch was flashed, in my case it was KNX01V
9. Disconnect watch and boot it.
P.S. I guess they show phone selection just to provide instructions how to get into download mode and then flash based on the versions from bootloader.
P.P.S I'm glad I tried this last resort thing after being ready to deal with verizon support and waiting for new watch...
I've found that formatting cache and userdata partition like it says in the link below makes the device boot as expected:
source.android.com -> /source/building-devices.html#unlocking-the-bootloader
(sorry for faulty link, new user)
Good to know, I decided to wait a bit as I was eager to play with new toy.
Will unlock tomorrow if it is still locked after Sony reset.
And looks like I would have to write my own apps to test GPS and sensors performance.
And the good news is fastboot state unlocked after stock reflash.

Can you please elaborate on which driver you used to get access to the Smartwatch 3 via ADB? I am trying to use the latest google USB driver, but the device is showing up as offline listed under "adb devices". Just tried the latest ADB v1.0.32 and it seems the watch shows up as "unauthorized". Did you see an ADB notification on the watch that you had to accept, because I am not seeing anything like that.
NVM, it started working after I restarted adb server like 25 times...
Device offline usually is not about driver. But I hit on device and manually picked google-adb composite device
OK, bricked watch today with corrupted /system and boot process hanged with non responsive power button. Had to wait for discharge and it was pita to get into flashmode with enough juice, because after black screen charging it boots instead of going into kernel charging.
Anyway it is up and running and has ROOT now!
Will upload files and create guide as soon as I will be with good internet.
See my sig!

Well, there are different levels of bootloaders
At least Sony s1 flash, fastboot, kernel...
To flash with PC companion you need to boot into s1 by powering off and then hold power and connect to USB once sony logo shown (you should see black screen with backlight on). Make sure you sit on PC companion update screen and that watch had enough juice.
With charging there are different levels of charging:
1. Battery dead
2. Boot loader charging (about 4 min from USB port) with black screen
3. Kernel charging either offline (if you powered off before) or boot and operational charging.
When #2 charges it will boot kernel and if kernel or system is broken it might hang and discharge.
But you can force into s1 flash mode before it boots into kernel. Or if you lucky you could power on and power off before it boots and hang.
In my case I had not enough juice to flash it and watch didn't react to button in kernel mode, so I had to wait for discharge, then plugged into USB and start timer, figured it boots after ~3min 55sec. So I opened PC companion update screen, waited 3:53 and disconnected watch, then hold power button and connect to PC after 5 sec and was able to flash.
To power off - just hold power button until it reboots and continue holding until it vibrates 3 times.
Good luck

This method is windows only. Is there no cross-platform way to do it?
I did the stupid thing.. and ended up with a softbricked phone.
Sony PC Companion did the trick for me!
I tried doing it through VMWare on my macbook, but didn't seem to work at all.
On windows it was plug'n'Pray
Sony companion will not let me restore my SW50. Detects it and tells me that the software is updated. If I try from the menu to repair phone, it makes me accept all agreements and finally tells me the same thing no updates.
Is in bootloop and do not start after open bootloader
My sw3 is in bootloop.I uesd your guide but still can't repair my watch. I tried many time to use pc companion but always got the same wrong message, wrong code(100) which couldn't connect to the Internet.

Yes!, follow these instructions and you can enter in fastboot or recovery and flash a new firmware:
Detach any USB cable connected to the watch
Turn it off holding the power button and keep holding the button until the watch vibrates three times and then switches it off
Press the power button and keep holding. A blue screen that prompts to insert an USB cable will display
Double tap the power button
A black menu will display, with on-screen instructions
Move to Fastboot or Recovery Mode pressing the power button, once a time
Select Fastboot (or Recovery) by double pressing the power button
Good luck bro.

How do you go about getting stock recovery back at the moment I'm on 5.0.1 and I can't ota update to 5.1.1 because it thinks its on 5.1.1 when it's not the only way I can think of updating it is to get stock recovery then sideload the ota zip on stock recovert but I can't do that with TWRP can someone help?
