You have to flash the stock recovery first in order to install the OTA. Or you can download the OTA, but don't install it. Go to CWM and then flash like a normal ROM.

I am sorry don't do that. A custom recovery might not be able to flash an OTA and could be a problem.

You must to install Stock Nandroid backup for your main version 3.14.720.24. THIS IS NOT YOUR MAIN VERSION 4.18.401.2. The procedure is simple:
1. Dounload recovery for your Stock nandroid backupand flash it.
2. Download backup and put it on SD card from mount sdcard from recovery.
3. Install your stock nandroid backup and flash boot.img
4. Flash stock recovery
5. You are done to receive OTA
Last thing this is stock nand backup for your phone

Since youve got S-OFF this hopefully shouldnt be too hard to fix. Follow the instructions here to flash 4ext recovery using a PB99IMG. Then go into recovery, full wipe, and flash a rom.
Thanks.... any other idea about a rom

Wow...so you added your imei.
Okay.Since you said it happens when you take the device off flight mode. There are some suggestions for you to try.
Check the OP of the rom you downloaded. Maybe it has bugs in the rom that causes your device to act that way. If not, then
What we want to do is flash a radio.img to see if it would fix your radio problem.
Note: Dont try this if you dont have S-Off or you could end up bricking your device.
But first we have to flash an Eng-Hboot in order to flash a radio.img
You can download it from Here.
Once finished, put it on your sd card and boot into bootloader. It would ask if you if you want update. Press volume up and it would reboot and complete the update.
Once its done you would see Eng-Hboot on top of your bootloader info.
Now we can continue to flashing a new radio.
You can find radios for the desire hd in the development thread.(sorry i couldnt give you a link). My ISP is having problems which is resulting poor connections.
If you have trouble finding a radio, just let me know.
EDIT: Here is the link to the radio thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295

Have you tried setting the model id via fastboot? Like say writting a new one to the device?
Just like how a new CID is written to a device?

HTC M8 Stuck in Recovery Mode!!! Please help a noob

Hi there, A friend at work has given me his M8 which appears to be stuck in recovery mde t see if i can get it back to working or can do anything with it.
I have samsung phones myself and while i know how to flash a stck rom etc to these, reading on some of the threads here it seems alot more complicated process on the HTC....
I have not had any experiencewith HTC devices since the HD2 days (what a great phone) so really need someone to walk me through what software/firmware i need and where to find it and what to do with it?
At the moment, it turns on, then goes into the recovery menu, then I choose wipe data/cache, and restore factory etc, but it then just comes up with done, choose the reboot option to come back to the recovery mode again........
I think it is a stock uk/eu release of the M8, don't know what network it was on or whether it was rooted/unlocked before hand.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
In the recovery menu I believe there is reboot to bootloader option. Select that, then tell us what's written on the bootloader
Search on how to do fastboot getvar all then post the result without serial & imei no.
Then we'll see anything we can offer to help

Well if you looking for a full stock condition then you need to flash the RUU.zip from here
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24399965296001026
And use this steps ( all the steps ) but use the RUU above
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
If you just need a rom use one from the links i posted earlier

TWRP is a recovery, not a ROM.
Any ROM intended for the M8 will work on your device, and with TWRP (with exception ones which are intended for Sprint, Verizon, dual SIM, etc.). So just about any ROM for the T-Mob or "generic" international M8 development sections.
Also, you should delete your IMEI and serial numbers from the top post. These are personal info, and should never be posted online.
