So I am using the LTE N7 and I keep noticing this issue. When I turn mobile data off or leave the device in airplane mode for too long and then turn mobile data back on or airplane mode off it takes a while for it to connect to LTE. No matter where I am while my galaxy s4 will connect to late right away when switched on from airplane mode.
It really only takes like a minute or two and I know its no big deal but is there a way to force the radio to connect faster or maybe a radio/modem to flash like you can with phones?
Just wondering
This happens on any ROM that I flash

I think this is a 4.3 issue as I recall seeing this talked about in the Galaxy Nexus forums (Verizon). Is your S4 on 4.3?

No my S4 is on 3.2.2 so I guess it makes a lot more sense now that you're saying this has been talked about already.

Its somewhat sporadic but like just now I'm in an area of full hspa coverage and then all of a sudden the signal dies and it says no service. Usually an airplane mode toggle does the trick but this time I had to restart the phone to get it back. I just had installed widgetsoid so not sure if its related but I've uninstalled it for now. Anybody see similar?

I have not experienced this with Tmobile and the nexus but I know if you used a toggle app for some Verizon lte phones you would have to call in and provision the phone again..had widgetsoid installed earlier but did not fool with the toggles

I sometimes lose my signal exiting the subway. It's like it just doesn't reconnect. It has happened on my nexus s as well.

What baseband are you guys running?
If your APN settings for Data have a proxy entered, try removing it as well as the port. That can cause issues sometimes.
The above is assuming your carrier would allow you to use it without the proxy.

This sounds like the problem I have. I think its just a T-Mobile issue since I remember having this issue a few times on Sensation. I just hope they try to fix this in future basebands and software.

try contacting them and have them reset your connection to the tower???
dunno if that would help, but i always do that when i switch out my phones.

It doesn't happen that often. Its actually rather rare. My SIM is pretty old, I've had it since before TMo even got 3G. I was thinking of going into a store and asking for a replacement just to rule that out.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I as well have the exact same problem with the Mytouch. I have found that keeping it at 2G will preserve my connection though at limited speeds and I can simply bump up to 3/4G when I have to. It kinda sucks due to the reconnection time but it saves me battery and random signal loss

I am posting here because it seams no one knows why some phones have LTE only options and some do not.
I was wondering if someone can develop this feature somehow if the user is rooted and has there MSL code that doesn't have the LTE only option by Default.
Is this possible via development and if not why?

The only problem with going to LTE only is, on Sprint, LTE only supports data service. So if you went to LTE only you would lose voice service.
I want to lose my voice services. I just want to use my phone as a Data access point.
So do you know if someone can develop this feature?

ah ok, wasnt really clear in your explanation. any of the custom roms i have used i don't ever remember seeing lte only. sorry man wish i could help a little better.
It's possible to have LTE only, yet not many people can develop radios that shut out normal service. Good idea
Though!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Ya what if some one developed a ROM feature to where you can at least disable 3G so the phone could only connect to LTE. This could bypass the possible hardware limitations.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
Probably won't work but use efrants return to stock guide and instead of flashing both radios try flashing the LTE radio only and see what that gets you
Bloods thicker than water
I wonder why this is not more popular and why more people are not working on this possibility.

Search in the Play Store for "Network" by Philipp Mangelow. It is actually a shortcut to the phone's built in diagnostics mode. It doesn't work for stock or ROMs with stock kernels, but I have used it to put the phone into LTE-only mode for testing. You will see both GSM and CDMA settings, regardless of which one your phone is. Try them all, sometimes the setting is mislabeled (its a bug with the ROM, not the app).
So in short, even if your ROM doesn't support LTE-only, you have a good chance of this feature with this app.

Okay there was nine options under preferred network tab and all of them did not force LTE. I do not know if I have to reboot or not but if you know anything else that would be great or have any other ideas.
Also there was something about ims registration but I do not know anything about that.

The LTE option only appears on certain ROMs. I forgot which ones, and I can't check right now because I flashed back to stock so I can take my phone to Sprint for repairs (overheating). Try Eclipse, Maddoggin, Carbon, Rasbean, or Jellybro. One of those will have an LTE option I'm sure. What I do is set the LTE option, then below I turn off the radio, and then turn it back on. Oh and sometimes the 4G icon doesn't appear, depending on the ROM, but if you do a speedtest you'll obviously see you're connected to LTE.
Okay I have tried all of them by turning off the radio and turning them back on. Also did not pay attention to names. It still did not work so I guess I will have to try one of those Roms.
Do you know if I can install one of those ROMs with the sprint nexus toolkit? And which ROM would you suggests first.
Also im afraid it might be a hardware issue do you think that is possible? Maybe I got one of the first Sprint 4G LTE Nexuses that you can't split the LTE signal.

no he didnt need to. that is why i reported them.
It takes about the same time to answer a question than to b*tch about it...
ANSWER: Download and flash Eclipse 2.1 ROM (Android 4.1.2) :good:
It has the LTE ONLY option you want. It also has a fantastic array of options and tweaks, and 2-4 times the battery life of a 4.2 ROM or Stock OTA. :highfive:
If the LTE ONLY option doesn't work on the the first try, use the Network app posted above to turn off the radio and back on again. :victory:
I am wondering if it is possible to be on the internet while on a telephone call? I believe there are some phones that can do this like the HTC 4G LTE but is this possible with my samsung galaxy note 2. I think I can do this using wifi but I'm talking about with a normal 3G connection is that possible.

Nope. Not possible. The galaxy s3, and evo 4g LTE can. The note 2 cannot. I'm not sure about the Galaxy S4.
You can use LTE or wifi while on a phone call with the note 2..just not 3g.
I'm using SlimBean 4.3 Build 1(Stable Release) and anytime I connect to WiFi or enter an area where signals are weak or enter airplane mode my only hope is to reboot my device to get that signal back.
Are there any solutions for this? Or something I else I can do besides rebooting every time? My dad faces this issue too.
And please don't tell me to wait for Verizon to update the Nexus to 4.3 or 4.4, I'll probably be dead by then.
So far i'm in the same boat, seriously thinking about the LG G2, since N5 looks like a phuc u very much, but vzw is the only tower i can hit from home

Verizon is so annoying. I don't know why they try to control these devices.
Tmo may not have the best reception. But they get the best devices and don't screw em up badly and have pretty good plans. Ex: that $30 off contract plan.

My wife has this phone and I have the s3. After doin TT the update to 4.3, we both have experienced the same issue. When I am on 4g and she is on LTE, we cannot make calls to someone on WiFi calling. We can receive them just not make them. All other calls work. When on 2g or edge it works. I finally found a fix for mine, since my s3is rooted, I reflashed the modem only and mine is fixed. My wife won't let me root hers, the note 2. With that being said, what are my options, because I think that would work for hers, but she won't let me root.

Make sure in wifi calling settings you have calls over wifi preferred is checked
Also do a factory reset.
That's all that comes to mind right now.

Done both already. But try for your input. I am wondering if there was a way to flash modem on unrooted phone? Any body

I have the same issue with my stock 4.3 Note 2... not sure what happen during the OTA but im led to assume that with all the newer LTE phones, note 2 users arent the only phones accessing those bands, and something was shifted that creates more instability with wifi calling. I say more instability, as even when I was on 4.1.1/4.1.2 there would be times when friends/family would call/message me when I was connected to certain wifi's (at my girlfriends/etc) and the call would never come through, the messages would receive until I disconneced from the wifi. Even when leaving a voicemail, it was hit or miss for me to get those until I disconnected from wifi.
Not sure if it is a compatibility issue from being connected to edge vs lte vs etc (like you have narrowed down) as it may be a wifi router issue, or just initial bugs with wifi calling in general, considering wifi calling is still (in my mind) in its infancy stage

I wouldn't necessarily say WiFi calling is in its infancy. I've been with T-Mobile since before the first android. We had Wi-Fi calling with the 2nd android phone T-Mobile had, the cliq 1. Every phone we have had has had Wi-Fi calling since. The first hiccup we ever had was with the HTC one s. With the note 2 we haven't had a problem until the update. Being an IT tech, I couldn't help but do my own ts, since it was happening to my s3 as well. What we found was it only happens if she makes a call on 4g or LTE going to a phone that has Wi-Fi calling turned on. If that person turns it off and goes to where they actually has signal, the call goes thru fine. My s3 was doing the same, but it is rooted.
We have put several calls into T-Mobile IT dept. That has stumped them badly. They have no idea why this is happening.
On my phone, I finally had the bright idea to reflash just the modem. It worked. No more issues on mine.
I can't root hers(she won't let me), and I know that will fix it by flashing the modem only.
So, sorry for long post, but that is where I'm at. I'm stumped, unless maybe just using Odin to flash the update all over again (like that will happen, she don't like it when I play with her phone).
