I've recently lost all gps connectivity, can't get a lock no matter how long i wait.
It's not just Google Maps, i can't get a location with any program.
Tried third party apps as 'GPS Status' and 'GpsFix Deluxe' to reset a-gps functions, but no luck.
I don't know for sure, but i believe this started after updating to B111.
Does anybody have any tips on how to troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance!
Try installing an older version like B107 and have a look if it's working then.

Fixed it myself.
Don't know why, but i've switched off google's location services i could find (because there seem to be 2/3 locations for these options), rebooted and then switched them back on.
Now they work again, but i don't understand why i've got to have google's location services turned on to have gps with any app at all?

Do you mean Google's location services under Accounts -> Google -> Location Settings, the warning that you get that refers to Google when you toggle "Access my location" on under Settings -> Location services?

I am running the sense clock with weather and now the weather will not show up unless I have wifi running?? hmm
I would check settings for mobile data to be on.
I tried that still no go.. ugh sucks
Location
I believe your problem is with your phone not knowing where you are. Your phone hasn't received any data from the gps satellites. Wifi helps with location, so that is why it would work then. Check your location settings and make sure both options are checked, and load google maps. Once it knows your location it should work. If not, try removing and adding the widgets again, or rebooting

For some reason my AGPS has completely stopped updating my location on google maps. My regular GPS works great, but i need the agps to update for beautiful weather. I'm on EC05 rooted but otherwise stock. Anybody know of a fix for this? Or is anyone experiencing the same problem?

Task kill any apps that use gps and try maps again

Yeah all that was on and i tried rebooting several times. Ultimately i just flashed back to stock DI18 and did update ota from sprint. Seems to be working now.
I'm a once a week user of Maps. So I need it, but often it doesn't even run between reboots. On ICS it seems to be killing 10% of my battery no matter what. I've tried turning off GPS. Any suggestions other than freezing it?
Are you signed into Latitude, maybe? That might be something to check.

Not signed into it. Not even signed up for it. I also disabled the reporting of location back to Google and using wifi for location. I should say I first rebooted and didn't start maps, then a day later tried no GPS/reboot/no maps, then no GPS/location reporting/wifi location/no maps.
I'm also seeing the same thing. After the screen, maps is using up to 20% of my battery. I haven't even used maps much since I got the phone.
Very strange. I remember on my Nexus S, Latitude would DESTROY the battery, but signing out of Latitude would fix it. It's not the most scientific thing, but I suggest signing into Latitude and then signing out of it.
Same here guys. Use it once a week, and it has 10% of the battery. Must be some sort of location service.
Maybe make sure the "Automatic caching" is set to Wi-Fi Only and not Wi-Fi or mobile networks?
There is a setting in stock browser to do with location. When I had this enabled I had this problem but once I disabled I no longer lose battery to maps so its worth investigating.

I noticed there is an update out today that mentions bug fixes on newer devices...
Maps update didn't seem to change anything. I also have the same problem on ICS galaxy nexus.
Same, but can't even freeze it!?
Same issue here, Maps and many processes are constantly running, I want to freeze it, but can't even use a simple command like 'pm disable <package_name>', it seems to have no effect!?
Don't really want to uninstall the app, but freezing won't work for me? Anyone manage to freeze it?
Same here. I cannot stop maps from running...
I've disabled the location options in the browser. Disabled all location items in settings. Disabled all locations settings in maps.
It keeps showing up in running apps!
Finally frozen!
I managed to freeze the app with System Tuner at last I could get rid of this. Obviously had to root the phone for that.
Took me quite some time to figure this one out, thought I should post it here in case anyone else has a similar problem.
When I updated to Android 4.1.2, I noticed that my Google Navigation stopped working. It would simply sit there endlessly "Waiting for location..." Fortunately, there's a simple fix:
1. Go to "Settings > Accounts > Google > Location Settings".
2. Flip the switch to "On" (I found this was off in my case).
3. Try Google Navigation again, it should work fine.
I'm not sure why Google decided to break up the location settings into two different places like this, but it's a bit silly IMO as it's definitely going to catch some people out.
You probably cleared the Google Services Framework at some point. When you do that, it disables location services.
Makes sense. It's still a good thing to let people know about it.
It's good to know that I wasn't the only one with this issue factory reset did the thing for me.
I have a different issue
hi
My issue is different.
After the update I am not able to download updates from Google play.
It tells me that the connection to the server has been timed out.
|I cleared the Cache of Google play, but did not helped.
Any ideas?
The issue with GPS was present on update from ics to jb as well and also on 4.0 to 4.0.x and fix was the same as you described it switch on and off location service

In my case it was actually that the location service for Google apps was switched off by default after the update. I didn't need to cycle it or anything, just simply switch it on.

Not sure how to fix that. Are you sure you have an internet connection on your phone? You might need to use the "Clear Data" option, rather than just "Clear Cache".
Hey, man, thanks a lot, I've been banging my head for 6 hours until I found your post. I was minutes away from resetting my phone to factory defaults. You saved me a lot of trouble. Kudos to you!
Thanks for the heads up on this!
Thanks
I too had emptied the google apps framework for the update to 4.2.1 on the galaxy nexus, this helped me out. Thanks!
Awesome
It worked for me in a Galaxy S3 i9300. Thank you so much!
I'm using a Tab S 8.4 LTE, having an issue using Google Maps. When Location is in power saving mode, trying to find my location in Google Maps just gives me a dialog box asking me to turn on GPS to improve location accuracy, and after I decline the blue location button simply refuses to work. Google Maps is the only app that has this problem, every single other app that needs to find location has no problem using Power Saving Mode location service to find my location, whether it's a weather app like Accuweather or a map app like Citymapper, or even the browser version of Google Maps. When I choose to turn on GPS it actually does find my location immediately, while the device is still searching for a GPS signal. I already tried clearing cache and data and reinstalling Maps. My Tab S is my only device that is having this problem. Does anyone else get this?

The thing is pal by declining the only thing it has to work off then is your WiFi and mobile data which takes longer.
For anybody who disagrees with the wifi not being usable as a location aid well it surprised me to find that when google sent those vans around taking those lovely detailed photos of your street thats not all they were after. They also logged every wireless network they went past with their location at the time so that if needed you only had to have wifi switched on and an internet connection to give a pretty accurate reading of your location...
And theyve gone even further...they dont need to send vans out to keep this list updated.., they actually use your phones ...so you become a network information gathering tool which sends back to google any wifi networks you find combined with the strengh and location you were in
Sneaky blighters
So in answer to your question either turn on gps or turn on your wifi and mobile data...or just wifi if its connected to the net.

It doesn't just take longer, it just doesn't work at all in any way, even with both WiFi and mobile data turned on. Instantly works when I activate GPS, even if I'm indoors and the device still hasn't find a GPS signal to refine the location.

Like I said everything that isn't google maps app, including the browser Google Maps, has no problems. In desperation I tried a factory reset too but that didn't work. I just wondered if its only me who is having this issue.

"Google location Reporting" and it had set "location reporting " for the device to off, i turned it to on and viola location working off mobile data and wifi.

Thanks for the help. Sadly turning location history on didn't solve it for me for whatever reason but its good to know it's not just my device being faulty somehow.
