Guide to renew your camera lens - HTC One X

After of using my HOX for more than a year, without any protection case, camera start to have focus issues and took blur photos because of micro scratches on lens.
There is no need to replace whole case.
All what you need is:
- sheet of water sand paper at least 1500
- piece of soft cloth
- car abrasive paste
- 20 minutes (using drill) to 1 hour free time (hand job).
Additional but not necessary, but very helpful:
- drill with felt polishing wheel - will speed up full process
Instructions:
1. Clean camera lens with soft cloth
2. Apply 1 drop of water to lens
3. take little sheet of water paper (1x1cm was enough for me) and start to rub your lens in circular motion.
After 20 seconds it will became milky mat - don't worry it's necessary to smooth full lens surface from scratches.
4. When no holes/scratches will left on surface (after 1-2 minutes) clean slurry water from sand paper using soft cloth.
5. Put a drop of car abrasive paste and start to polish using soft cloth in circular motion.
To speed up process use drill with felt polishing wheel at low speed.
If you don't have one it can be easy to made using double side tape, ordinary polishing wheel and piece of felt.
Lens should be wet from paste and stay in neutral room temperature all the time, so apply paste often and don't let lens became hot.
WARNING: pushing too hard and using high speed will produce overheating and can deform your lens.
If lens became too warm let it cool down, and continue polishing.
6. Clean lens using dry cloth and see effect. If surface will be crystal clear, see your lens at different angles under bright light to see if any defects left. If still there's something repeat #5 and #6.
I repeated #5 and #6 something about 30 times until lens look as they should; it took no more than 15 minutes.
Right now lens look like new and HOX camera took photos without any blur images.
After that it's harder to took a photo of a perfect clear lens without scratches than polish that lens
I tried this also on watch glass and motorcycle headlight - results as above, full success.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any damage caused by using this tutorial.
Proper removing scratches it's not difficult, but if you have booth left hands something can go wrong.

[Q] Front camera dust issue

The images from my front facing camera have gotten more and more washed out over the past few months. Apparently there is a small bulge in the aluminum right below the camera (where is connects to the black glass). The bulge is so slight that i can't even slip a piece of paper into it, but apparently it is enough to allow the occasional piece of dust in, so now the lens is coated with some debris (washing out the pictures).
I've tried canned air to no avail. I'm wondering if it makes sense to try and pry the bulge bigger to provide a better opportunity to clean the lens. I definitely don't want to take the whole screen off just for the front camera lens, but if there were a less involved disassembly to get the upper grill off or something, I'd be willing to try that.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Try to contact either HTC for a free repair (telling them your front camera is not working) or try to do the same thing with Verizon for them to get you a Like-New replacement (it is very easy to get them to do that, they ship one out for almost any problem). You are for sure within the 1 year standard warranty that comes with every phone since this phone only came out on August 28, 2013.

Front Camera is blurry.

I think its got a lot of dust and dirt in it. I had a small lift on my speaker grill from day 1 of my purchase and didnt really care, but I think its been accumulating a lot of dust on my front facing camera. Its made it really blurry.
Does anyone know a way to clean the camera? I'm guessing the grill has to come off and then it'd be easy. But I don't know how to open to grill without damaging the phone or putting the grill back without making it even more loose than it should...
It's been found that our cameras have a thin film across them that becomes dirty and scratched and makes it blurry. I had this on both front and back. Solution I found is to put a drop of water very carefully on the camera lense and rub it with the corner of a credit card, just a little pressure will do it. I'll pull that film off and your camera will be as clear as the day you bought it. I haven't had any blurry issues since I did it about 8 months ago.
i had the same issue with the rear camera so i just used some glass cleaner and now the pictures come out nice and clear

Camera fault night shots

When I bought my LG G4 (818) over a year ago,I could take night shots just point and click.
I had the circuit board replaced (bootloader problem) and for the last few weeks I get flare on the whites. So much that it's not worth taking a photo.
Even in manual the results are the same.
As you can see in the pics the white and the lights flare,(please don't say its normal as this result has just appeared)like I say a few months ago I could take night shot and no problems
Maybe your glass is scratched or dirty

Hello madjester67, what you are seeing has been one of 2 problems WHICH I both experienced myself:
1. Easiest to solve: clean the lense.
How to diagnose: take your finger and wipe over the camera glas. The glowing stripes will be 90 degree to the direction of whiping.
When on the go I sometimes take just whatever clothes I am wearing, some work just fine. Or get a proper microfiber clothe
2. It might be scratches on the camera cover glas. They will stay independent of whiping. And they will always have the same angle towards the photos x an y axis. My scratched lense cover had certain markings, say 2 thin long rays to the button left corner and a thick shorter ray to the right corner.
How to diagnose: most reliable but a bit difficult and dangerous to the camera module: remove the current Cover (which means to remove the buttons too). If these artifacts remain, it wasn't the lense cover.
Why dangerous? Losing warranty (if support figures out), you might cause scratches or even break parts or WORSE you could damage the camera which is unprotected from the outer world without the cover. Even if it is just a small dust particle... how will you get that out of the actual lense without damage?
How to solve: buy a new camera glas or the whole glas+buttons part where you need only screw driver and not fiddle around with adhesive tapes. I got mine for about 15€ at rounded.com. It didn't have the proper color (grey instead of gold) but hey, Who cares?
Nive to hear from you soon how it went!

There is a "black" smudge on my photos after dropping my phone.

After i dropped my phone from pocket height onto the floor, i noticed the photos had a "black" smudge, i am not sure if the glass on top of the camera module is scratched as i can't visibly see it, but after trying to clean the camera with some rubbing alcohol, i took a photo of it with some alcohol droplets still on the glass (it looks like a blurry drakish spot on the photo when in normal conditions, the alcohol droplets allowed the camera to focus on the spot). Now how can i fix this, do i have to change the glass on top of the camera or the entire camera module as if the actual lens might be damaged. (It's the main shooter, not the tele.)
Looks like it damaged the sensor.
Buy another cam module
It looks like some dust got dislodged and got on your camera lens. Maybe you can check it by shining a bright flashlight on the lens and checking for any small debris that is on the lens (Lens I am refering to is the one that's under the back glass/lens, on the camera module for focus, not the one you can touch)
If there is debris, the only way is to remove the back glass and remove the debris with a air can, or a temporary measure is to hit your phone at an angle to dislodge it to another location (it may get stuck deeper inside the OIS mechanism so beware of that)

oddly enough i left my phone charging over a "wooly" surface and i can't seem to reproduce it (the smudge is like gone), what's bothering me is that i kept cleaning the outer part of the lens (the one i can touch without dismantling the phone) but it was still there, after i left it charging for like 20mins it was like magically gone, anyways thanks for trying to help me!!

[REVIEW] amFilm Ultra Glass Screen Protector

Hello all!
First time posting in a while, so forgive me if I'm a bit rusty. I just got my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ yesterday, and my amFilm Ultra Glass Screen Protector today, so I thought I'd write up a little review. Sorry for no pics, but I was busy installing and trying to keep things dust-free
I've used Whitestone in the past but was disappointed with both my Note 8 and 9 installs, primarily because of the LOCA spiderwebbing on the edges. I figured I'd give another brand a shot, so I went searching here and found the amFilm Ultra Glass Screen Protector. A quick trip over to Amazon, and $40 later (for a full kit including *2* protectors) and here we are!
PACKAGING: The box is nice - wider and flatter than the WS product. It's clean and simple, but professional looking. Plus their website and install video are well done also. Inside the outer box are three smaller boxes. The largest contains the plastic frame, screen protectors, and wipes (I think). The medium size box contains the UV light and the MicroUSB cable. It appears to be identical to the WS product, but I don't know this for a fact, so take that for what it's worth. The smallest box contains the LOCA (2 tubes), extra absorption pads, plastic pin, tabs to place over the speaker, a bubble level, and a weight. Everything you need comes in this kit, including plenty of wet and dry wipes, microfiber cloths, and dust removal stickers. On the packaging is a QR code to go to the install video.
PRODUCT: Everything seems to be on the same quality scale as the WS product, with a few minor changes - 1) there is no LOCA applicator "bridge", you have to aim and dribble the solution by hand, 2) the pin is different - there's no more tilting the entire phone to move the liquid into position - the pin is angled and sets the glass down at an angle, and 3) the "fingerprint" weight (more on this later). Otherwise, if you've done the WS before, this isn't significantly different.
INSTALLATION: **REMINDER** REMOVE the factory plastic screen protector and clean your screen THOROUGHLY before proceeding! I ALMOST forgot, which would have been a disaster! I watched the video twice and didn't see any mention of this, so amFilm, here's a tip for you Anyway, installation is straightforward -put the little feet on the bottom of the phone to bring it flush with the pins inside, make sure the screen is 100% clean, install the sticker over the speaker, apply the liquid (making sure to absorb any "splatter" before proceeding!), peel the protective film off the glass, place it, and pull the pin. Once the liquid starts to spread, put the weight where the fingerprint sensor is and let it settle and "ooze" for 3-ish minutes. (NOTE - it's hard to locate the fingerprint scanner, so you might want to mark the frame in advance with a Sharpie (another tip for amFilm - marking that plastic with some kind of raised bumps or hash marks might be a good idea, or maybe a film for on top of the glass that marks where to place it - just a thought). After that, it's bake-time under the UV light, then you're done.
RESULTS: I'm very impressed so far. The glass appears to be nice and clear, and I can't even see the little "spots" in the corners others mentioned. I lucked out this time and no dust specs at all. No bubbles, etc. the fingerprint scanner appears to be working fine, although I haven't re-registered anything. It DOES require a little extra "umph" to scan, but that's not a big deal. Part of that could be me getting used to an in-screen scanner. There was minimal over-oozing, and the pre-installed pads absorbed everything fine. Barely needed a wipedown afterward.
FITMENT: There appears to be no flaws in placement using the guide, or in the fitment of the glass. It sits flat, and lines up exactly where it should. The cutout for the front-facing camera is exactly where it should be, and it's not overly-exaggerated in size. The edges leave plenty of room for putting the phone in a case (I've tried 4 so far, all fit without touching the glass edge, so there's no worry about case push on the glue). The bottom edge is just a tad bit short, maybe a 1/16", but that could be allowing for larger cases (I don't use the big bulky ones, so IDK).
OVERALL ASSESSMENT: 4.5/5 Stars - Great product, especially for the price. I'll keep you posted on long-term wear & quality, but for now, I'd say it's a great deal versus the competition.
Thanks for the feedback, just got my note 10 plus and am trying to filter out the paid/promo reviews vs legit ones.
I may go this route with amfilm as well. i bought the tech matte clear case, so i hope it fits well within it without popping off.
hows your experience after putting it in a case?
I applied mine the other day, and while I'm happy with the fit & finish, my fingerprint reader is spotty at best. In addition, my frame snapped, so I need to contact customer support to send me another one. because it snapped it ended up leaking LOCA all over the place, too.

Isn't that glue suppose to cure? When you say it snapped did it spill liquid after the snap?

The frame snapped during install, without me noticing. Because it wasn't holding everything in place very well, the glue ran EVERYWHERE. Under the phone, over the sides, etc.
So yes, once I got everything fixed as well as I could, the glue cured fine. But you don't cure it until you're basically done and ready to go.

If you turn sensitivity on, does that resolve the fingerprint issue?
No, sensitivity is already up. I’ll have to replace the protector soon anyways, we’ll see if another install will make things better.

The September update includes improved finger printer recognition.
Ok I decided to go ahead and buy the amfilm note 10 plus screen protector from Amazon. Watched their video and then another on Youtube like twice. I think I got the install right, the whole weight placing situation is a guesstimate, if they are reading this thread - put something on the tray to take the guessing out of the process, like a stick with a weight so it stays in one spot.
Also, the glue stick - be careful when lifting it to make sure no drop falls out - i didnt put the black cap back on - saw an extra few big drops fall on my desk - no biggie - but if it was on the screen would have been a hassle.
then the UV light shuts off at 45 seconds - their last instruction is to keep it lit for 60 seconds - they should probably adjust it - again not a big issue.
in terms of quality of the screen protector - looks good - its a thin piece of glass - hopefully it protects the screen. the fingerprint sensor - its been a hit/miss kind of. i added my same thumb print twice, sometimes it has to read directly in the middle of the thumb, othertimes i feel like i have to press harder. I didn't try the fingerprint sensor before the screen protector so don't know if its just the way it is.
I would rate this like 3.5 / 5 -- i think tempered glass is solid, the fingerprint sensor can be annoying, its not really that smooth like if you slightly put your finger/thumb on it that it will open. like literally it won't take it on first try, on second or third try it will take - that is the most annoying part about it.
the install process was decent, as long as you watch the videos first - its straight forward.
price wise its sucky - i wish they would sell this for $20 - even with just one screen protector. $40 is steep, replacement protectors they can probably price between $7 to $10 i feel.
By the way this is the same UV type device used to cure fingernail paint - lol - your household may already have one.
I don't have the Whitestone to compare to. But I can say man the Samsung film screen protector is solid, used it for few days, even when taking it off it was on perfectly. I kind of miss it but i think tempered glass will offer more protection on a fall.
Pictures, please.

I've installed two of these protectors on a note 10 + and a note 10. I did have the issue with the frame cracking with the note 10+ but the company has since fixed that issue.
I've used WDG for a few years now and this one has exceeded my expectations and is better than Whitestone.
The installation is simple and comes with a weighted cylinder that's used when you're curing the glass with the UV light. I've had zero issues with the finger scanner as well as my daughter on her note 10. I actually put the cylinder on while the glue was spreading. I can actually see a circle where the finger print scanner is at and I think this is a recipe for success. I've installed these just after release and they still look brand new. Scanner works great! I can provide forage if anyone is interested. The price is great for getting two in the box. I highly recommend!
