[Q] Touchscreen freezing temporarily audio plays - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is all covered within the Nexus 7 2013 freezing and rebooting threads, didn't see these symptoms. But the situation that happens is thus:
When it happens: Touch intensive Games (drastic, MMOJ, Dumb Ways) appears to be when the 3D GPU is NOT in use, netflix, when paused for a short while.
What happens:
1. Screen does not update display appears frozen
2. No response from nav bar icons
3. Power, volume buttons give no response.
4. If audio was playing right before it froze, it will keep playing as if nothing wrong.
5. If I hit the power button or the nav button then let it sit for a few minutes, suddenly it will react to every press I did in quick motion and go back to normal.
5a. I had show touches enabled, which showed a random number of the frozen touches working in quick succession when it "unfroze"
6. Sometimes requires a hard restart with no response.
When it started: Right before the Q update starting rolling out, did not have issues out of the box.
Purchase date and location: Right around the time of launch from best buy, 32 GB 2013 version
Troubleshooting steps: Safe mode (doesn't appear as often), full factory restore to the Q image when the R image started rolling out. Issues were gone for a short timeframe, then returned
Config information: Stock, latest firmware version, rooted via TWRP (latest version installed), and SU.
Observation: Appears to occur in select situations, and I believe I always have a GMAIL notification right when it un-freezes.
Let me know what you think and if it should be merged with a different topic, didn't see anything about it un-freezing when it was frozen or audio still playing.

screen issues, specifically back button

i've also experienced some of the other screen issues that others have when the phone is charging, but i have noticed something more specific: w/o any other apps in the multi-task queue, i press vol-up to press play on my current song, and when the song comes on, my back button stops workin. actually all of the soft buttons do this, but after 10 or so seconds, home and search button come back, but back button still unresponsive. Sometimes happens when I have multiple apps going on as well. Kind of an annoyance.
i'm considering going back to the store to check my options, but (even though i don't think i'm qualified to make this distinction) it may be a software issue that may be updated with the connectivity issue on the 16th?

I can confirm this. It happened to me just today. I was using the "Sleep" app made by a buddy of mine. I played a sound from the app and then I hit the back button. It took me into the multitasking view. I literally could not exit the app unless I hit the home button. Afterwards, my back button stopped working but the home and search was still functional.
I let the phone sit for a while and everything started working again. I don't know if this will be addressed in the 16th update but I really hope so.
I also heard that a battery fix is coming as well.

How to debug unreponsive N7100?

Hello XDA world,
My note 2 has been having the occasional fit.
By fit, I mean the screen goes unresponsive, and the capacitive buttons might light up.
I have to hold the power button and reboot.
It is intermittent. One day it want totally crazy and after the reboot, it hung again before it even finished booting.
I've noticed if I try to do anything while it's booting up, it's even more likely to hang. It hung during 5 restarts in a row which almost drove me insane.
Then it totally stopped for days. Then the occasional hang. Then today it decided to go insane again and lock up 20 times in a row.
How the #($#@ do I debug this?
Some notes:
1) I don't see anything in logcats. I've tried various programs, and just doing a "logcat > logcat.out &" in terminal window.
I'm thinking my phone is hanging before it's able to flush the logcat output to memory.
2) It happens if I have no sdcard in the phone, so it's not that.
3) I'm now trying to uninstall programs that 'auto startup'. It's hard to tell if it works since it's intermittent. Hangs could be a week apart.
4) Is there any way to memory test the memory inside the phone? Once I was trying to copy the logcat off the phone via MTP and it hung. Could be coincidence.
5) There are signs of 'degrading death'.
a) I have 'show touches' in options turned on. At some point the screen isn't responding.
For example, if I'm at the lockscreen - I can see that it is registering my touches. (the option makes dots appear where you touched the screen). However the phone doesn't unlock (i.e. the thing that you click and drag to unlock doesn't appear').
I can still see processes running/not running (the 'show cpu usage' option.).
Or, if I'm at the launcher, I can touch the screen, home screens don't scroll.
b) After being in state 'a' for a while, the screen eventually goes black and that's that.
My phone is now in a 'totally refuse to work' state now, hanging after every reboot.
I'm trying to uninstall anything/everything - there's a program I'd ideally like to back up before I wipe.
- Frank
The widgets take forever to load after startup sometimes, which is usually precursor to a hang.

Problem with notification bar pullong down randomly

Hey there
Had the phone since release
Started with this problem yesterday. It's random, the notification bar pulls down and pulls back up within a second. Sometimes it doesn't release, I have to press power button to enable me to use the phone.
I switched on "show taps" in developer options, and it appears to be a screen press from the top centre of the phone. Only from there.
I've tried replacing the screen protector, tried cleaning the phone, power cycles... I've not tried a factory reset at this point, would need to back everything up.
On 8.1
I'm at my wits end
Thanks in advance
Do you have a case installed? Sometimes phone cases trigger phantom touches on the display.
I do, since day one.
Took it off and still get same problem
I'd use a screen capture app to show the phantom touches that's keeping you from releasing the notification bar and contact Support at this point. But yeah, you should begin backing up your data.
try to use the developer menu -> show touches and see if it's software or hardware related
....actually i have been getting random, backspaces key presses.....i am typing away, and than I will sense the "phantom" key press the backspace, and look as my message get completely deleted. Never happened before, same case/same screen protector from DAY1....I just restart my phone, but still wear. happened twice since OREO update
Boot into safe mode and then turn off and start up.
Fixed my menu bar issues.

P600 Black screen, but android still runs(?)

Okay, so here's the issue:
My P600 starts normally, but I end up with a black screen (not the regular one caused by the LCD cable being loose). Not really sure when it started, parents say it's been like this for a day now. All I see is:
-The top bar (with time, audio/vibrate setting, Wi-FI signal and battery)
-The drop down menu
-I can start S voice
-I can see all the apps I launch by pressing the icon in the drop down menu (by holding the middle button, as you normally do)
The screen reacts fully, I can roll up the drop down menu and shut down the apps by moving my finger across the screen.
It throws out the "Process system isn't responding" error every once in a while.
The lock screen flashes through very briefly when I go back from the "all launched apps" menu (not really sure how to call it).
Steps I tried:
Restart
Wipe cache partition
Connecting to a PC doesn't do anything
System(Android) is fully stock, and was probably updated (not sure what was the last update Samsung put out).
Factory reset(or flashing a new android) is the last thing I want to try, thanks.

Random "Back" Problem -- Downgrade Possible?

Hello everyone,
just wondering, is it possible to downgrade from G981WVLU2DUH1 to G981WVLU2DUG1. Both are Android11. The reason is that I am experiencing this random "Back" of the screen ... meaning i am not even touching the phone but it go and do the "back" command (i did not press the "back" button). For example, I am watching video in youtube in fullscreen. Then after sometime, in the middle of watching a video, the screen will go to small screen (not full screen). It happens everywhere (every apps) and I just noticed it when watching video. The issue started updating to UH1.
Note: I call it "back" because the problem seems that the back button was pressed even though it was not.
omg man i have very similar issue. after i factory reset the device it starts to behave really weird...it randomly tries to rotate the screen and also navigation buttons act by it self... whenever i use my phone to watch or play something... example i wrote a mail today and while doing so sudenly my device sad ''message saved to draft'' WTF but i didnt even press home or back button. also in gaming when i move my finger across the screen it randomly flips my screen but it comes back right in a sec LOL cant believe how a factory reset made can worsen the device. i sware to myself this is last Samsung device...im done with there halfbaked products. i didnt have those issues before reset to be clear.
just to let u know that i managed to fix those issues by reflashing a software via ODIN... LOL i cant believe how f...ed up is Samsungs firmware. for the record at first i factory reset my device strait from the phone and the i got those issues and then i sad let me reflash it again but this time with Odin software and yep it worked.
