I've been having this issue since i got my S3 a few months ago. No matter what ROM I run, my phone randomly restarts and Gives me the "no sim card" notification.
I believe the problem is caused from my micro sim card (iphone 5 sim card, really tiny one). However, I'm wondering if maybe this isn't happening from my sim card? I notice most times it occurs is when i enable or disable data connections, but I can't really call it. Does anyone know if this issue actually is from my sim card being the tiny one or is it a phone problem?
Go to T-Mobile and swap it out. If it continues its not the SIM.

Yeah...
Anyone have the micro sim card and have any issues? Its obviously not the right size for the phone but it fits well enough to work. The reboots happen randomly (sometimes when the phone is just sitting on the tabe untouched). I'm thinking the problem may not be the sim since the simcard never really moves out of place. And I recall reading someone have the same issue of getting a "no simcard" notification after messing with data connections. So does anyone have any experience with such an issue?
If it's not the right size, it's not the right SIM. Even if you think it's secure, I'd lay odds that it's not and is the cause of your problems.
Chances of finding someone set up like yours is very slim btw.

about 3-5 times a day, I'm just using my phone(Verizon gnex) and it suddenly just says
no sim card detected. and it gives me an option to restart. what I usually have to do is turn it off. pull battery out. take out sim card and reinsert. then boot up to make it work.
I haven't really flashed in awhile so I don't think its my ROM problem. I've been running liquidsmooth beta 2 from the day it came out but this problem has started about a week ago.
is it a problem with my sim card? please help me fix this issue...
Either bad SIM or you have dirty/broken pins in the SIM tray. Check that then talk to Verizon.
how do I check if mine is broken?..

Well it looks pretty obvious if you see one. One or more pins are just doesn't look right if it's broken. If you haven't noticed anything abnormal about your SIM tray, I would assume that the SIM tray is fine.
Also have you dropped it recently? If you have, it might be one of the internal that is broken. This happened to me once and had to pay 150$ to repair it. If you have same problem as I had, then your signal should decrease over time and then not read the SIM at all...
If you didn't dropped nor SIM tray is fine, I'll assume there's a problem with the SIM card itself.

Sorry for the late reply but if I go to Verizon, will they give me a new sim card if I ask for one?
would they care if I'm on a custom ROM?

I'm not really sure. I think you can replace the SIM card, but I think you have to pay for it...
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
I used to have that problem. Have you had the PUK password input pop up. Or sim security on?
W/ security Id have to pull the battery and pop out/in the sim after Id been on airplane or screen off for period of time

My phone randomly rebooted today into safe mode. Anyone experience this before? Also, I have a regular size LTE SIM card in my phone that I trimmed to fit. Recently my phone suddenly says no sim rebooting. Then it reboots. Sometimes it Does it 4 or 5 times in a row. Very frustrating. I suppose the most obvious first course of action would be to get the appropriate sized SIM. Weird though.

maybe try repositioning the sim if there is room.....
I bought my note 4 on launch day. Ever since then I've had an "unable to detect sim card please restart phone" error. At first it only showed up once every few days, but now it is getting more and more frequent and is happening multiple times a day. After reading starting the phone works fine for a while. I've done everything I can think of (pulling the battery, pulling and re inserting the sim, cleaning the sim), but nothing helps. Anyone else having this issue, or know of a solution? Thank you.

I am having the same issue. Not sure of a fix yet but it is getting more and more frequent which worries me.
Same here.
Same here! Anybody contact Samsung or Sprint about it?
Same here!!!
Just got my note 4 from Amazon.com. I had been reading about the lte to 3g call drop issue, and someone posted using there sim the card from the phone they were replacing fix this issue. So I put mine in from my s4 before i even turn it on for the first time. The phone worked, but was unable to connet to the 4g (lte / spark ) network. 3g worked fine. I got the message you all are getting (no sim, restart device....). It would happen like every 10 minutes. Once I put the sim that came with the phone in , all my problems went away. Long story short, you need another sim card.
I just called sprint and they are sending me another SIM card. It happens from time to time, but they did tell me if it continues, I can get it replaced for no charge.

This happened after my sim card swap. It would say "network did not respond in time" then "could not detect sim" then phone would reboot. It did it three different times. Then connection became stable and has not done it again. Not sure if these issues are the same as whats happening here. Just posting my experiences.
I actually bought 2 N910P. I planned on making a little extra money by selling 1 of them, but didn't count on the N910P being so easy to get, so I've held onto the other one for a back up until I found a ROM that I wanted to run on it. Well, I found a awesome ROM & booted up my 2nd N910P & got the message you have all mentioned. I thought it was strange, so I rebooted & got the same message again. After doing this a few times, I thought why not take my SIM card from the 1st N910P & put it in the 2nd N910P. I still got the same message after doing this, so I swapped them back before it messed up my primary SIM card. @Yoshi1221, please keep me/us updated if the new SIM card works for you. Has anybody else got a new SIM card? Also, after installing the 2nd ROM that I was trying out, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. I went back to stock & it still doesn't work, so I made sure that I did a full NANDROID backup on my 2nd N910P in hopes that once I get it working & the fingerprint scanner stops working, I can go back. Anyone else had this trouble?
Edit: I tried to activate my new GN4, but the DEC & HEX numbers were not recoginzed by Sprint.com. So I went into chat & they informed me that it had been turned over to technical support & to contact them again after 24 hours, so we'll see where it goes from there.
Update: Chatted with Sprint & the lady activated the SIM card after giving her the number. Hope this will help out. Just go to Sprint.com & click on the chat button.
Looks like new SIM card is working, but just got it today, seriously had to give up an arm and leg in order for sprint to send me one, but so far it looks like it is working, but just got it today, lol

Cool, glad it work out for you.
Also found out from a supervisor in the U.S that sprint is now selling GSM phones now. If you take out the SIM card and only receive 3G, you have a GSM phone, if you take out the SIM card and have spark/LTE, you have a CDMA phone

I had this problem. Sprint sent me a new sim. Fixed the problem for a few weeks but it has returned. Anyone ever get this figured out?
Sim card not found
I had forgetten about this error. Saw that someone suggested a piece of paper between the sim and case cover. I had this happen with a phone I got off a forum. Sent it back and got a replacement. The paper, no matter how thin or thick may or maynot work, and only for a short time. Changing the sim might not work either. You may just need a new phone. I went through all with a s4. Now my note 4 is doing it. I thought it was my recently deceased (July 4) mother was messing with me. One more errand to add to my list for today.
same here?

Theres a couple of troubleshooting options mentioned in that thread to even having to get a new sim, from simply going on sprint.com and going to chat and having them reactivate it. Read it, might help, Might not.

I got a new sim card for a different reason but after replacing the sim card that's when I got the sim card errors.

Lol... not at you, just.. the irony in it. But yeah, even in that thread, just like you, one of the 'solutions' was just that in time it simply goes away.
Hopefully thatll be the case here.
Have had the phone a few months now but the sim errors have been in the last few weeks. Sprint tells me its not a known error for the note 4 but the web says otherwise. They say just reboot the phone and your good to go.
When i had sim errors with my g2 it was the slot it sat in. I ended up with two g2s in 4 months time.

I had this happen too. I didn't root right away (I got the phone launch day in US) but soon after rooting it started. And it came back again after the NK2 update.
I used a strip of 1/4" kapton tape to hold my SIM card in place. But first, I powered down, removed battery, held the power button down a bit, grounded myself momentarily while holding the phone, removed the card, cleaned it with a micro fiber cloth and reinstalled it. The tape was applied following all the angles of the slot and battery slot. Since that day, no more SIM card errors.
I wouldn't recommend trying to modify the slot or add thickness to card. Those slots are sensitive. The tape simply holds the card in place.
If the SIM error ever comes back, I'll go into chat and ask for a replacement.

I'm on Verizon, my SIM was a microSIM originally, it came with my Galaxy S3. I cut it down with a SIM cutter a while back to use it with a Moto X (original version), it worked fine for a long time in that phone. I just moved it over to my N5X this morning, and a few hours later the phone has twice told me that no SIM is installed. I had to remove the SIM tray and re-insert it to make it work. Anyone else having this problem?
I cut my microSIM myself freehand and haven't had any issues with it at all. Is it possible that your SIM is dirty/corroded or something? I'd be surprised if the slot on the phone was having issues already.

I actually polished the contacts a bit before putting it in the 5X. It gave me a No SIM error twice in about 3 hours, but hasn't done it in the last 6 hours or so, we'll see if it comes back. I know MicroSIMs are a little thicker than NanoSIMs, I wonder if the extra thickness caused/causes it. If it comes back maybe I'll try sanding the SIM down a bit.

I have been having this happen a couple time a week. I'm in the exact same situation being on Verizon, coming from a Galaxy S3, and I cut my micro SIM down to a nano. Did you sand your cut SIM down or get a new one? If so, did this fix the issue?

I'm still using the same SIM, the problem hasn't recurred so I haven't done anything about it. If it happens again, I plan to sand the SIM down.
Are you talking about a pop-up error, or just it saying "no sim" in the upper right hand side of the screen? I have it take a little bit to recognize after some reboots, but it always recognizes it after 5-10 seconds. I have a brand new sim from t-mobile that I have been using, so it would not be related to a cut sim or anything like that.

Yes!
I had a microSIM cut down and got the issue. Went and got a new nanoSIM still having the issue.
Annoying.

This happened to me again, so I finally just asked Verizon for a new nanoSIM and now it's been a week or so with no problems.
I to am on Verizon. And had my sim cut since I am coming from the g4. And have it pop up saying no sim twice. And I removed the sim and reinstalled it and rebooted the device and usually works. But i hope its just something that will work itself out
Yes it's been doing this for a week since I've had my Nexus 5X, I just had to reboot it to have the sim recognized again. And this morning it says "no sim card" no matter what I do. If i remove the sim and plug it back in, sometimes it will work and last for a minute and then again "no sim card". I'm really pissed. I'll try the sim in another phone to see whether or not the problem comes from there.
So question for Verizon ownwers. I got a nano sim card but need to activate it. Can I activate it with a Verizon phone even if it uses a micro sim? Only ask because I came from the g4 and I cut it but I'm trying to get this nano activated to try and eliminate the no sim.

I just called customer service to activate the sim card and then popped it into my phone. They didn't give me any trouble.
They don't need to activate the sim card to a phone or need an imei?

I called Customer Service and got them to send me one by telling them that I was going to by a Verizon HTC One M9 from a friend. Then when I got the SIM, I just called them again and they activated it for me no problem. I don't remember them asking me for which phone again.
I have seen in other threads on here where people have said that Verizon will activate the SIM card in store even if you tell them its for the Nexus 5X; so, activating over phone or in store should be no problem.
