For those of you who bike, motorcycle, hike or use your NOTE II for music AND gps in your car.......this is the best app "I" have found and or used.

What is the best GPS (Navigation) app

Which do you think is the best, and why?
Also can you mention the price of it too, please
Navigon.
Don't know the price - bought it YEARS ago ...
I would say sygic cause after u have download the map. It just uses the satelit to track ur phone rather than 3g. This saves u some bucks.

Does it have lots of POIs?
Waze... Free turn by turn Nav with user updated traffic.. Real time road conditions.
I just read that Sygic uses TomTom maps, which is good
Enjoy with sygic then.
It’s very hard to tell which Gps app is the best for new Samsung GT-I9300 Galaxy S III.
I’ve installed those Gps apps: Navikey 7 ways, Sygic Aura, Route 66(Maps + Navigation)
All those working well(full screen) for Galaxy’s resolution 1280x720.
Navikey 7 ways - I the very new app from our Russian friends, don’t have many option yet, app & maps for it, is completely free.
Sygic Aura - much better than 7 ways, but I personally didn’t like it for some reasons. Try it, possibly you’ll like.
There are many forums where you can download it for free, already cracked.
Route 66(Maps + Navigation) – best app for now. I sure that many of WM users know it very well. It is free for 30 days only. Find the price for it on their web site. Hope you know what the Google is…
I’m new android user, and my best Gps app form WM is the IGO, but unfortunately do not exist yet for our 1280x720 resolution. When it comes, I’ll change to that one. For me is the best Gps program.
Try Waze! Im telling you its great.

Should be in the poll. It looks like a "micky mouse" app, but it is really powerful.
Also love how quickly the S3 gets a GPS lock. Makes navigation super accurate (and fast to start). No waiting for GPS...

I think Copilot is the best..
I have downloaded the maps to the phone so I don't need data.. just GPS.. but it drains the battery pretty fast I think.. I get about 2 to 2 in a half hours out of a 3500mAh battery.. and that's while its on the car charger.. maybe that's normal. I don't know..
Osmand. I was using it on my s2 and now the s3. You can download maps for free and they are updated monthly. Try it, its free.

I've bought Sygic since my Nokia 5800 Xpress music and I really liked it back then. However the latest years Sygic isn't updating the maps that often. Last maps update is 2010 as far as I remember.
I tried using Sygic some weeks ago just to see if the 3 years old roads were updated. Well... They weren't. There are some new roads in the town I live in and I drove over them just to see that Sygic was displaying them as farming fields without names or something. This is really disappointing.
If the maps get updated then I think Sygic is the best since it has many POIs and real places photos and it doesn't require internet as Google Maps does.
For the moment and since Sweden is having a great HSDPA network coverage in combination with my 10 GB data plan I will be using Google Maps. (Google Navigation does support voice guidance in swedish!)
I used to do a lot of driving with work. Tried almost all of them - always keep coming back to Co-Pilot live Premium.
Very powerful, very stable. Reasonable pricing, including things like free live traffic for 12 months.
Please be mindful that the poll will show what people are using (typically someone will use just one app that they have paid for and wont have experience with others, and many will be using free solutions like G Maps), not what is the better app.
I have previously fully tested the android versions of Igo, Sygic, Navigon, Copilot, Ndrive as well as most of the free navigation apps on my last device.
They all have different features that will appeal to individual preferences.
IGO has always been by far the best GPS software but is not available for purchase on android. The resolution for this device is not supported yet but it's only a matter of time before someone produces a skin that supports it. It is highly customizable and appeals to the more technically minded who are prepared to get into its guts and mess around. That being said the android version is unfortunately a battery hog and I would not recommend it to the casual GPS user for that reason.
The worst is Navigon which although it has a nice interface and almost perfect TTS suffers from atrocious routing (it will get you where you want to go but invariably by the worst route possible)
The rest fall somewhere inbetween with Sygic being the closest contender to Igo in terms of routing, flexibility and 3d map display. As a previous poster has mentioned though, you take your chances with map updates.
Google maps navigation has come on in leaps and bounds over the last year and is now a close contender. The advantages are that it's free and totally integrated with the OS. Routing could be improved but it's search function is unbeatable, particularly the ability to voice search. It looks pretty certain that Google are about to release a major upgrade in the near future which should include full offline use and lots of other goodies.
Finally, we are lucky to own a device which in my opinion is about as state of the art as non military GPS technology gets.

due to the nature of my job i drive around a lot, i started with sigic aura, it works well but i could never get it to use the fatest route (it would always go for the shortest route) , it would use A/B roads over two junctions further on the motoway to back track a mile.
so i got copilot live when it was released and it works.
I notice there are a few versions of copilot live. Standard and premium.
Maybe I'll look into that one a bit more
My vote goes to Waze.
Freakin Awesome in Singapore.
I couldn't get the Google Navigation to speak in turn-by-turn.
Anyone has any idea if anything needs to be enabled? TIA

[APP] Best Apps for Studying (Updated 10/13/13)

To all of the students out there, if you have wondered about the apps you need for education support. I have some in mind to come up with.
1/ Kingsoft Office
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wps.moffice_eng&hl=en
It's free, multifunctional, great support for words and excel document, powerpoint slides are good on it. It brings the feel of using Microsoft Office to Android.
2/ Evernote:
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evernote&hl=en
Although many of you already know, I want to mention Evernote again, just in case.
3/ Smemo for N7:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/n87vb44wtz2p2x1/SMemo.apk
Samsung made a good one here guys, I've tried many notes but the only ones that I liked are Keep and Smemo, and Smemo works fine on tablet. Asus has Supernote but I find it incompatible with Android 4.3.
4/ Myscript Calculator:
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.visionobjects.calculator&hl=en
This use your handwriting and transform them to formulas, very smart and convenient. Designed for tablets.
5/ Timetable:
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gabrielittner.timetable&hl=en
For better time management and take note on your daily routine, and classes, it's colorful and simple.
6/ Simple mind free :
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modelmakertools.simplemindfree&hl=en
Best way to memorize something ? Try Mind Mapping, it will simplize your projects, homeworks and lessons.
7/ Aldiko Book Reader:
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aldiko.android&hl=en
I like Aldiko because it's beautiful layouts, Moon reader is ok too, both are great for reading PDF and .prc ebooks
8/ Papyrus - Natural Note Taking :
I add Papyrus because if you happen to have a stylus ( maybe some of the Adonit Jot series ), it provides you the best experience you'd ever had besides Samsung native S Note. It has pressure diferences, and it supports palm rejection in Samsung Note devices ( unfortunately the N7 doesn't have the features of a true stylus tablet ). If you ever use Asus Supernote then this one on par with Supernote in terms of the ability to make your notes truly amazing.
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steadfastinnovation.android.projectpapyrus
9/ Dictionary (Free/ Premium)
There's a reason why this dictionary is the best, it has a powerful database, and you can get a lot of different meaings or uses, also with "word of the day", trending words and tons of cool and fun stuffs !!! The best English Dictionary I've ever used, and if you want the Premium content, the price is quite cheap for something this good.
1$ for premium : access to related words. $1.99 to Rhyming expansion.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dictionary.paid Premium
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dictionary Free
Hope you guys have a great time :victory:
10/ Ger-Eng Dictionary :
I'm learning German, so after a while having such problem with verbs. I find myself saved by this wonderful app. A must have if you're into German.
BTW if you want to unlock all of the words, you have to spend $10 for life time use, 1$ for monthly and about $5 for a year. I spent my $10, totally worth it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dic_o.dico_eng_ger
11/ Mantano Reader Lite:
This ebook reader kick asses ! The most beautiful interface, it even beats Aldiko or Moon reader. And super smooth pdf reading guys, beats everyone else too. About the premium features like Cloud services I haven't tried it yet, but there's one thing for sure : you don't have to pay for a Night Mode.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mantano.reader.android.lite
12/ Handrite:
I used to think I would never be able to use my custom made stylus like the S pen but this app brought me closer to that feel. This app is amazing for stylus user, it's been a while that I see something beats Papyrus.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=my.handrite
13/ myHomework:
You think you're studious ? Think again after trying this, it's like a secretary to tell you when will you have the next class, what's the homework is and all about, which class is next, sync with facebook or Google mail. It's like my mom.
14/ Autodesk Sketchbook pro/mobile :
Like to draw in classes ? I don't, but it's on sale ( yay ). I still love to doodle, and drawing is a skill to get girls too. Okay, if you're an artist you're gonna need this, if you're not you may need it sometimes. Buy it before it gets cold and out of sale.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adsk.sketchbookhd Pro version
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sketchbook Mobile version
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adsk.sketchbookhdexpress Free version ( yes, Free )
15/ EveryCircuit Free:
A Multisim on tablets, Electronics geeks, I hope you'll have some fun on the go with it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.everycircuit.free
16/ Doulingo Free:
Learn yourself new languages without a teacher, beautiful interface, lots of fun, smartly organized, a sync system for all of your devices. It has tests too Google recommend it to me and I recommend it again. I help me with German a lot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.duolingo
17/ Appsales:
Tells you whenever there's a sale, some of us have a limited budget. I've been among the poor, bros. I know how it feels
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.tsapps.appsales
That's all, if I find something cool I'll update ASAP

Actually carrying a tablet around is better for most of people, when you use the right apps, your dependence on Windows will fade away. Most laptops and ultrabooks are heavier than the heaviest tablet. I used my Nexus 7 as an dictionary, a "time-tablet", a note taker and an ebook reader, it fits on the college/university desk perfectly (which is really small ). The N7 is just like a medium size book to me and I can easily put it in the books (yes, awesome portability! ). You can concentrate on studying without being distracted by the true multi task devices like a laptop, the tablet is very simple,
And the last thing is the battery life, so maybe it doesn't replace your Windows machine, but it makes your life better. A worthy investment in my opinion.

It will depend differently for most people based on their needs and circumstances. I think Android is great as a phone OS but Android tablets/hybrids (e.g. Asus Transformer, HP SlateBook x2) are not for me when serious studying and work is needed that requires multitasking and full functionality. The Surface Pro 2 tablet is something I'm looking forward to. Even though it will be heavier then 10" Android tablets, it is of an entirely different caliber with Haswell i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, HD5000, digitizer, and 9 hours of battery life; powerful enough to be a tablet plus laptop and desktop replacement.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus as dedicated GPS

I have a Sprint Galaxy Nexus that is no longer in use. I was thinking on using it as a dedicated GPS. I have CoPilot USA Premium for the offline maps. Any thoughts on this? I haven't set it up yet, but I thought this would be a great way to keep using an older device. Also, I was thinking on loading it with a ton of music and using it with my car stereo over bluetooth.
Any thoughts?
Only issue is battery life sucks when GPS/BT are active and brightness is Max, so you'll definitely need a 12v charger.
Once I start my car my GN automatically starts streaming all the music/calls via BT stereo.
Also use the stock windshield mount very rarely for GPS since I find it easier to just Google it(using maps+street view) before leaving this way I'm actually learning the route for future trips in that area.
Have even used it as a dash cam but then quickly realized I don't want a record of my driving habits.
LOL
That sounds just like what I want to use mine for. Is your phone still active on a plan or is it disconnected?

Still on the same plan for the past couple of years:
$25/month unlimited talk/text/data(use 5-6gb/month).
Don't even have/need home phone line or cable internet.
Use work internet/PC to get all larger content via teamviewer remote PC app and Fongo VoIP or Skype app for long distance calls.
I'm having a hard time getting the GPS to actually work on the phone. If it won't work I have a nexus 5 I can use. I was hoping to use the GN since it was just collecting dust.

Is the tab pro right for me?

I've been in the market for a new tablet, as my old one (tegra 2 iconia a500) is struggling to hold more than a couple hours' charge. I'm on the fence between the galaxy tabs S and Pro (8.4'')
I'll explain my usage, and what I'm hoping are not-too-high expectations. I am a gamer, first and foremost. (More on that in a bit) I haven't been on twitter for ~2 years or Facebook for almost one. I use hangouts all the time, and spend a lot of my time away from a charger. I had an s5 for awhile which made moving my PSP library from discs to data very fun. That sort of fun got me something like 6 hours of screen on time, playing PSP on 80% brightness. I hope to get AT LEAST that on my tab, without any lag of course (I do NOT use frameskip.) I already know real racing 3, shadowgun, dead trigger 2, and n.o.v.a. 3 run JUST FINE. Heck, my dual core phone can run those just as well as the s5, so I'm not even considering that those games will give either tablet a hard time.
What I'm seeing are tradeoffs back and forth across the board. I'll try to avoid mentioning what everyone knows they have in common.
Tab S- heart stopping screen, better battery life, great speaker placement, BUT... A "select few" get far too hot, and those few have warped back panels. That one makes me cringe. I had one of the "select few" s5's whose camera completely ****** itself. Unfixable. Samsung blames me.
Tab Pro- more stable development, practically same SOC as s5 (800 vs 801, I did some research) so plenty fast compared to the tab S. But worse battery life, I'm told the screen is dull, samsung seems to have dropped this like a hot potato so future support is grim (not that it matters much if you have CM) and bad speaker placement
I got to hold a tab s 8.4 and the screen blew me away. Until I found out about the exynos 5420, I thought I'd just held the replacement to my phone AND tablet. I've never seen a tab pro, but that's the direction I'm leaning in right now. I would have ended this essay at "I'm a gamer, and real racing 3 is child's play" but I think that others like me can benefit from the points I've made and what I ultimately choose.
I apologize for even having to ask you guys this question. I don't make much so it takes a long time to save for something like this. I just want to make sure I make the right choice. Please, feel free to say why/why not for the tab pro 8.4
Thanks in advance, xda.
Final note: I guess the shield is a contender also, but a "warm, faded screen", bad camera, and 4-ish hour screen time is a turnoff.
Sent from my XT830C using XDA Free mobile app
I am an Tab S owner and I own the 10.5 one. What I can tell you is that yeah it does get hot right around the camera during gaming. As far as development, the Tab S 8.4 WiFi version is getting official cm12 from what I heard. The unofficial works fine on it too with little problems. As for the warp issue, that was only affect ed on the ones made before launch. The issue has been fixed I guess since there hasn't been any reports of it since last year. Um if you keep the brightness at 50% and you play games, you'd probably get 4-5 screen on time since you said you play games. I'd suggest you look at the battery results in the tab s threads. The screen is amazing but may kill a lot of battery in your case. As for the tab pro, other users will need to report on that since I don't own it. The tab s is gonna definitely gonna have lag out of the box unless you install a custom ROM then it won't. If you have any questions about the tab s ask me. Since I own the bigger model, the 8.4 has a similar experience in lag and all that
Hey, I read alot of stuff in the forums from you, and you're pretty well-informed, I'm glad you found this! The peak of what I need from this device that a person might have laying around is metal gear solid peacewalker for psp. If you (or anyone) could rip a copy of it, and run it on ppsspp with 2x PSP resolution and no frameskip, I'll be able to purchase a tab s mostly without worry. Also, as a personal favor, could you see if a conductive metal key or something gets the touchscreen to react in gloves/high sensitivity mode? I used a crochet needle as a DS stylus on my s5, and got attached

Yeah. I've actually been playing for the past 3 hours! Getting addicted xD Here's a gameplay I recorded. Fps is shown as well. There only seems to be a slight micro lag in loading screens. Other than that its all smooth. There was audio cuts in the video as I was recording. But without recording its all smooth. I also shown the ram usage and switching in between apps. Even though I own the 10.5 inch model, it should still be the same on the 8.4 since the chipsets are the same. You should check out some gaming on the Tab pro BTW. I think that sells it for me. And while you were recording? Those a15's can really deliver! When I looked up gaming on the pro, all I ever get is the usual. Dead trigger, rr3, etc.
If you're into rpg's, ppsspp can deliver more than Google play ever could. Jeanne d'arc is a fire emblem-esque game with a great story. FF crisis core is fun too. And persona 3 portable. Ah, I can hardly wait now!

Yes I was recording internally. You may need to turn on a few speedhacks to make it smooth but it works fine. Going into another app then switching back works well too since it has 3gb of ram. Of course I couldn't test any other game since it would take forever to download. So its up to you to decide! I didn't get heat because I was running cm11. I'm not sure if the tab pro is better than the tab s so yeah
I've really got a lot to think about. I'll deliberate carefully until the day comes to finally decide. I don't get new devices often so I've got to make it count

Hey! I figured out there is a tab s 8.4 with snapdragon 800, LTE, voice and SMS! Could somebody point me to a model number that gets at least hspa+ speeds on att?

There's no development for those... And att tab s models have locked bootloaders unless you get an international one. I couldn't find a snapdragon model either. I forgot to mention that the build quality is OK on the tab s but the tab pro has a better build quality.
Well, I thought I should let everyone know, I've decided. A week from today, I'll own a shield tablet. O decided to pull the trigger on one, and I'll come back and tell you all how I like it. Thanks for all your help
