charging issue - HTC One X

hi, i hav been facing charging prob, my does not charge whn its remain on rather drains batt more quick but it was charging whn i turn it off but slow. i thought its the issue of sense 5 so i degrade to sense 4+ viper 3.8 but it got worse. idrained my batt and than put to wall charge for whole night but the charging led kept blinking and than it disappeared than again i unpluged and plug the cable to phn than it starts blinking and than again blinking of led disappeared. i thought it will take time to become stable so i left it charge for whole night. in the morning led was disappeared and i tried to turning phn on but it did not respond. than i plug it to pc and it started blinking without disappearing of led. i left it for the whole day to charge but the led didnt turned to green due curiosity i turned phn on and batt lvl showed 20% ......so plzz any 1 tell me wht can be the solution of the problem plzzzzzzzz:crying::crying::crying:

You probably have a dead battery...Someone who has seen this problem before could confirm.
The way you write is pretty hard to read, so you might wait a while until someone does confirm this .

1. Never charge the phone for the whole night.
2. I had the same problem. I changed my charger and now, it is perfectly charging. Try it.

thanx for suggestion, how much do i hav to pay for a new charger??

But you said you left it to charge via USB cable on your PC and it didn't charge properly. If you used the same USB cable with the charger, then the cable might be to blame. You should try a friends cable before buying a new charger.
If the charger does not work with the same USB cable you used to connect to the PC, your battery is most probably dead.

Charging all night isn't an issue.
The battery will charge to 100% then drop to 95% and back up, will cause no damage.
Also smaller and often charges are better for the battery as it slows the formation of crystals so the battery holds its capacity longer.

If you have used 2 different cables to charge and none worked properly, that is probably too big of a coincidence. Your phone has something broken; it's either the battery or the charging circuit in the phone. You should take it to a specialized phone service to see what's wrong. They will also try charging it before disassembling, and if there's nothing wrong with the phone, they probably won't even charge you anything.
If indeed they have to disassemble it, you should ask them if there will be any visible differences once they assemble is back. I had a cracked digitizer on my old One X and took it to service and replaced the display+digitizer(they come together) and, although the screen was new, it did not fit as snugly as before, so you could see light leaking out the side margins of the display.
They probably had many of these phones under repair and should know if this will be the case with your phone.

Broken USB/charging port?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, please excuse my ignorant.
I have an EVO that won't charge. I've read a lot from Google search results that this is a common problem among many users. However, the port seems to be working, because my computer will recognize the phone and storage when I plug it in. The charge led will come on, and the indicator on the phone will say that it's charging, but the phone is actually only discharging while plugged in. Eventually the led will turn itself off, and the phone stops telling me that it's charging when the battery is down to its last drop.
I hope that someone with similar problem can help me with fixing this, or if anyone cause tell me if it's possible to fix? I want to send it in to HTC since I think the phone is under warranty, even if I don't have the protection plan from Sprint? The problem is the touch glass is cracks, and I don't know if they'll fix the USB port without saying that I broke it and won't cover that under the warranty. I want to buy a new screen and replace the broken one, but if I open up the phone it would void the warranty as well...
So I'm stuck with a discharging phone, cracked screen, and having to carry around 3 separate batteries everyday, and I have no idea what step I need to take.
Please help?
Have you tried plugging it into another charger? It may just be the charger that is screwed up. If this behavior pattern is consistent across multiple chargers then you may want to talk to Sprint to see what options you have.

Doubt it's the charger as it was stated that the computer connection works - should get a bit of a charge from that. I agree that a Sprint visit is due.
Just went through this myself! Would plug my phone in before bed and wake up with the phone at 2% or so. Thought it was the battery- so i took my battery to have the sprint store check it, they did say it was bad. So i bought 2 batteries off ebay.
I got the batteries and still had the issue. So then I took my phone to the sprint store and had them check the micro-usb port. They said it was fine and they cleaned it out cause dirt/dust was in it. Still had the problem..
So I bought a new micro-usb cable of monoprice (still using the same wall charger) , and that solved the issue! Had a bad cable. Now my phone charges super quickly in matter of 4hrs.
It could still be the charger. The USB cable sends data and power through different pins. So a bad cable could still transfer data while not pushing a charge.

It's gotta be the port happen to mine and I was able to get it fix as long as the port was still attached to the motherboard, if its not attached then have to go thru the insurance.
EVO with Identity Crisis
I was able to connect to my computer and send data just fine with the old (broken) usb cable.
I've tried three different cable and a car charger, same result; they all say the phone is charging but it only gets discharged. USB/storage connection works. Last time the Sprint store said the battery is faulty, but I have 3 different ones and neither will get charged with the phone plugged in, an external charger will work.

Definitely sounds like a port issue then. If you return to Sprint and review what you've done, as well as the result of your previous trip, then they should be able to take care of you. If they try to tell you it's the battery again just stand your ground. Good luck.
I had a similar issue. I tried everything. It wasn't until I found my HTC cable that it started charging again. I work in IT and tried cables from everything I could get my hands on (blackberries, external drives etc. ) The cable that came with my phone was the only thing that worked.

If you replaced the port yourself, I would love to know how to do it!
Took the phone back to Sprint and they said there's nothing they can do. I don't have the protection plan so I couldn't even pay the $100 to get it replaced (although I probably wouldn't as I can upgrade my contract and get a new phone soon). They also told me that HTC wouldn't cover it under their warranty because the screen is cracked and they will blame that on me for misused. I tried to check the warranty policy on HTC, but the page is not even available. Does anyone have experience dealing with HTC? I bought a replacement screen, I'd like to replace the screen but don't want to open up the phone if there's a chance HTC will fix the USB port...
HTC EVO 4G Won't - Stopped Charging Battery Issue
Hey Guys,
Two nights ago I woke up to an EVO that was plugged in with a Cellet
extractable charging cord, as it is just about every night. But, the phone was
still showing that it was charging the battery, animation with lighting bolt,
at only 50% charged after about 6.5 hours of charging. Hmmm....
The latter after trying to charge in the coffee shop first with Cellet chord in the
wall then a portable 3500mah solar portable charger; the phone not seeming to
charge at or past 50% charged.
My EVO is rooted but still with the stock ROM and the gingerbread 2.3.3 OTA
update. The battery is a Seido 1750mah and SetCPU is at 245 - 998mhz. The
phone has only been rooted for a few weeks, but I don't see where rooting
would interfere with battery charging.
I've pulled the battery out, several times to no avail. Switched back to the
stock battery, same results. However, if the battery is less than 50% full
the phone will charge the battery to 25% or 50%, weird. If the battery is
at 75% or more full, the phone will top off the charge to a green LED at 100%,
sometimes. Sometimes it won't fully charge the battery. Weird.
I read different posts regarding poor USB chords so I pulled out the stock
micro USB to USB, a charge only chord I figured, and am trying to top
off the Seido battery, which it seems to be doing as it's now full green but
still charging as the animation shows the bolt in the battery and the LED
is still orange.
If put the batteries in the Seido wall charger, the thing the size of a deck
of cards, both batteries fully charge.
I also use Screen Off by Iwashi Soft. That app has worked pretty well with just
a little funkiness now and then. However, while plugged in, I hit the power
button, instead of the home button to turn on the home screen. The phone
wouldn't open to any screen nor would turn on or off. So I ended up
yanking the battery to turn it off then reinstalled battery and turned phone back
on. I don't know if that had any effect on the charging issue, but I took
the icon off the homescreen and am using the power button only, for now.
I don't think both batteries are faulty at the same time at this point. I
don't know if the screen off app caused some wake issue that interferes with
charging the battery.
I do know that when plugging in the phone to charge there's a bit of clunkiness
initially as the phone locks for a second before allowing use for screen or app
and that's always been the case since the gb update. Also, the LED doesn't
always turn green from amber when fully charged with the screen off until
you reboot or use the phone in some way while still plugged in. So there is
some kind of wake issue in the stock ROM. But the latter has never stopped
the battery from charging.
I do know that Plume, the twitter app, started acting clunky with not updating
in the background unless I opened the app at least once after a reboot. But
I don't know if the latter is a wake issue.
Battery still seems normal. Heavy normal use, lots of SMS, tweets, Pulse reading,
Dolphin browsing, I'll kill 50% or more of the battery in 4+ hours. Otherwise, the
phone mostly in standby with periodic email and twitter reads, the battery lasts
all day or more than 24 hours. But the latter rarely happens anymore because I'm
a user.
The battery just went full charge with the stock charging cable just now.
This morning, I woke up with a dead phone, auto shutoff even though it was
plugged in which I did after solitaire and before going to sleep; as a charging
test.
I don't know if it's the phone or the Cellet retractable cord or both that's
stopping the battery from fully charging normally and consistently. I'll need
to get another data-charge combo chord and do more testing; and a new ROM.
Any ideas anybody?
try a new rom and also try using the stock charger and usb cable. Check inside your usb port on your phone for dust as well. Also go into recovery and wipe your battery stats. In the wipe menu for amonRa and under advanced (maybe here, i dont use cwm on my phone) in clockworkmod. also wipe your dalvik-cache just to clear any issues you may have, restart and give it a test. good luck
I just bought a phone with a broken charger port. Broke clean off the board, so my next step is to try to get liquid solder and stick it to the board. Did you take ur phone apart to see if the port is lose?
So I used the stock USB charging chord. Sure enough, it charged the phone.
Then I tried the portable charger at the coffee shop, worked. So the Cellet retractable
chord obviously had a short or something damaged/shorted for the charging part of
the cable after a year + of use and abuse.
What I don't understand, and haven't researched, is why there are charge only
chords; the stock USB HTC chord charges the phone, but the PC won't recognize
the phone's Micro SD card or the phone as an external drive. I presume the duo use
chords have a data path as well as a charging path. And yes, I know to switch the
phone from charge only to disk drive. The Cellet chord would provide the PC with
recognition for the phone's drive.
Considering the latter, what I'm not sure of, and haven't researched, is why when
the phone stopped charging, the chord eventually stopped charging, the phone
status still showed it as charging; the amber LED light on and the battery icon
in charging animation with white bolt showing? I presume that the charging path
still triggered the charging status, except once when I turned the screen back
on the battery icon was not animated and the white bolt not showing so I unplugged
the chord then plugged it back in where the battery icon animation continued.
Fortunately, or not, this forum returned 600+ results for 'battery not charging' and after
sifting through a few, the charging chord was mentioned which prevented a Sprint trip
and me contacting Seido; thankfully.
So I think manufacturers and ROM/kernel developers should visit this issue as a chord
that actually is not charging, or charging at an absurdly low rate, should trigger some alert
and not show a battery icon animation that appears to be charging normally.

Galaxy Nexus not charging !!

Have had a charging issue as well, and solved it.
Hey there,
my SGN was not charging at all not even when turned off, started two days ago, the first evening it was only charging on one out of my three USB cables (each cable has its own wall charger).
Also my PC with "Win 8 Pro" was not recognizing my phone at all.
My first try was a bit stupid, but it worked, well for one day only. I bite on the USB cable, so the part that goes in the phone was a bit deformed, and the SGN was charging again. \o/
Next evening, I had the same problem again, but this time, non of my three cables was able to charge, even after further deforming tries.
My final solution was to use a needle, stick it in the USB port on the phone and bend the small "tongue" a bit up, so it was exactly in the middle.
My Phone was off and the battery removed. I put all together again and plugged the USB cable back in, it started charging while off.
Then I just turned it on, after booting was almost done, my PC told me that my SGN is connected and it was still charging.
I removed the cable, plugged it back in, several times, also on all three charger with its cables, finally my problem seems to be resolved.
btw. My SGN is from November 2011, so one of the first here in Europe.
I hope this can help some other with the same problem.
Kind Regards from Germany,

I had the same problem, GNex quit charging. Fixed it by using a toothpick to gently move the "tongue" in the USB port up towards the LED (screen side). I used a wooden toothpick as I didn't know what would happen if the connectors shorted using something metal.
Apparently, moving the USB plug around when it is in the port can move things out of alignment. Very easy fix, takes less than one minute. You could use a plastic pen cap or whatever you have lying around as a tool.
If you are under warranty, you could always ask for a replacement.
I had this problem a while back, first only some chargers would work and finally none of my chargers worked. In my case it seems like the problem was pocket lint tightly packed at the back of the usb port. The lint was grey and so tightly packed that I couldn't see any thing wrong. I used a fine tooth pick and got a good size wad out and the charging problem was solved. I always thought that the lint prevented the usb cable to be fully seated but maybe I bent the "lip" while trying to get the lint out

Well, I've left my phone on charge with the adapter charger and it was recharged. Now it seems to work also through usb
I got a new Gnex today because of this same issue. It would randomly not charge no matter what charger is was using. What's weird though is I never had an issue transferring files to my Mac and vice versa.

Thought that was lint but in my case even removing the lint it wont charge CORRECTLY -- with the original charger (it was uncharging after some movement).
Then I realize that forcing the usb plug to go more inside the USB port it works. What I did: Removed the black protection because it block the plug to go more inside the phone port. It's now metalic (lol) but not a problem of charging anymore.
I'd buy some heat shrink tubing for that before you cause a fire .

Unfortunately, all that really does is shorten the battery's life. There is no benefit to forcing it to that feel good display of 100%.

Here's my full experience with my Galaxy Nexus charging problem --
I bought this one eBay, came with 4.1.2. Didn't even test charging before I updated it to stock 4.2.2 and rooted it, so I'm not sure if the problem developed after my software update, or if it always had that problem. The eBayer said he didn't know anything about it. I'm on stock rooted 4.3 now, and the problem persists.
The phone has never charged on any of the several AC adapters I've tried. These have been between 250ma and 1A, and they wouldn't work whether the phone was on or off. It would consistently charge when connected to my desktop computer, but that all changed a few weeks ago when I changed out my computer's power supply. Now, the only one trick I've found is to turn on WiFi, BT, GPS, and put the screen at 100% brightness, then plug connect my computer's USB cable, and it will go into charging mode about 35-50% of the time. This works OK, but one extra annoying bit is that when the battery reaches 100%, it stops charging, and won't start again until I do my little trick and replug the USB.
I tried replacing the USB port, but that didn't fix anything. As far as I can tell, that's the only part that can be easily replaced by a normal person. I'm basically managing this by swapping in batteries charged by an external charger.
Got major issue all of sudden and phone won't start anymore
I have been tweaking with my phone customizing it for like one year and didn't had any problem. I flashed with KitKat gummy ROM and then reverted back to 4.3 stock jellybean using ROM manager installed previous saved 4.3 stock rooted ROM.
Further installed clean master and did some advanced cleaning of cache files. WELL after reverting back I started witnessing some major flaws with battery charging status earlier with KitKat I wasn't using any battery saver app but after reverting back to 4.3 I installed DU battery saver and it would like take ages to charge my battery like 7-8 hrs but I wasn't paying much attention to this. I did some advanced cleaning with clean master, but anyways that won't clean any system files that would hinder the functionality of phone right?Problem started cropping up as I detached my power cable without switching off the supply ( even though I had done this previously many times before) , phone flickered/froze and switched off and won't start without external power supply even though i had 57% battery charge that too showed random status, sometimes 0% and sometimes 50+ %. This went looping for sometime then like it won't switch on even with power supply, just showing for a sec the battery symbol with bolt sign when the charging cable is inserted and going blank within 5 sec . It would show the battery icon sometimes and sometimes no sign just plain blank..
Well I tried different ways as suggested like pushing the small tongue inside USB to middle or attaching to laptop w/o battery and putting back n starting but all in vain, no response.
I am not sure any major fault has cropped in the charging circuit or is the phone bricked? Battery dead?
Guys do give some suggestions.. I have been charging using diff usb cables, no response but just that battery symbol for 5sec n going blank..even though i have been charging the phone is getting heated..but does that imply anything?
do provide some insights guys
Thanks in advance!

Xperia Play red light

Hi,
yesterday I bought a used R800i, the seller said I just need to charge the Battery. So back at home i plugged it to a charger an the LED near the power button startet blinking. First I thought it´s not a big deal but after a couple of hours it was clear that this is not alrigt. Even if i remove the battery the red light keeps blinking continuous (not 3 times or something similar, just every second once). I don´t know if it´s a software or hardware bug but could you help me to get it fixed?
best Regards
Lukas
It could be empty battery (but voltage level is not high enough to start charging).
Check with flashtool can you enter flash mode or fastboot mode (if you can, then it's probably empty battery)
If you can, check voltage level of battery with voltmeter.
It can be that motherboard is dead, but to be sure, you must know what is voltage level of battery.
For now, try leaving it charging, it might take some time (few hours or more) to actually start charging...

If battery have 0 volts then it's dead and (most likely) can't be charged anymore. You need new battery, so you can know is motherboard is working or not.
But that is just my opinion, and i could be wrong...
Maybe to try and charge battery from external source of 5V power , easiest way is cut some usb cable or take two wires from PC's molex connector (red is +5V, black is GND) and charge it for shortly (about 30sec-1min) and measure does it have at least 3.2V. Repeat short charging untill it does. If it stay on 0V then is dead for sure.
I was really able to charge the battery over a cut USB cable. I got it to boot until lookscreen (digitizer does not response) but then the battery turned hot and the Xperia shut down. I ordered now a new battery then it should work again

Digitizer not working could be faulty slider-flex cable or simply software error due overheating. You'll know with new battery...

Yes, that's slider flex cable.
But wait untill you get new battery. Then you'll know does it have more problems or it is working normally
Sad News, today I got the new battery and i was even able to boot up the phone, but like the last time i was able to boot it up the battery and the mainboard got hot. I think the loading circuit is broken. So there are two options 1. buy a external charger for the batterie or 2. sell the phone as rarely used on ebay
No really I´m selling it, even if i get a charger theres also the problem with the not working digitzer. Thanks for your Help but this is ways to big for me.
Regards Lukas

Sorry to hear that. Obviously problem is much bigger and hard to tell what is wrong without some proffesional look into it (lot of reasons for phone to get hot by itself - there is short circuit somewhere and that's why it's draing battery fast and causing overheating). I don't think external charger will solve problems.
Anyway, good luck :good:

Despite replacing USB power board & Sim/Microsd holder still cannot get charge

Hi guys
Just cannot seem to get the thing to charge.
Tried different charger/usb cable. Got completely new USB power board. Sometimes the battery icon comes up on the screen when i turn it on of just a battery with a bit of low red at the bottom of it. It won't turn on. Theres not even a charging beacon light on top of the phone to indicate charge.
What does this usually show? Bricked phone, bad motherboard or bad battery?
Cheers.

Is the error that comes to screen
"USB not supported"?
not getting any error mate. It is totally dead.
I did buy a new battery which had 4% life left. Not enough to copy 64GB data to an SD card.
It seems it must be the main board which is damaged. I have replaced the power board and the middle ribbon cable. This has to be a mobo issue unless u can think of anything else?

I still don't think that's mobo issue. Try this before you intend to replace your mobo.
Plug in charging using any charger other than wall charger. Use a power bank or anything and when the battery icon shows up that you described in first post(the red icon) leave it there as it is and let it charge over night. Try powering up in the morning.

I will be sure to do that and let you know once done thanks
I dont get any icon on the screen when I plug a charger in. Even the powerbank... When i plug that in I get no beacon light on the top of the phone to indicate charge and also no icon on the phone screen. The phone never gets hot when it charges and the charging device never gets hot. Stone cold both of them.
What do you reckon?

I think your phone needs a doctor ?. Take him to the hospital (service center). Last resort before going to service center is take the battery out and charge it using one of those battery charger.

The annoyance is though its not the normal kind of battery you come across...
Take a look here: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ScMAAOSwVm5Y-v50/s-l300.jpg
It has a strange connector on it. one of which I have never seen before.
How do i find service centres located in Australia?
Many thanks again

Yes, its strange indeed however my battery charger is one with wires so i don't need to worry about connectors.

[SOLVED][Hardware Issue] Phone not charging

JUMP TO SOLUTION
Hi everyone,
My phone (almost 2 years old, changed LCD for three times) started to lose a lot of its battery capacity from a month ago, and since yesterday I realized something's wrong with it, as it had some trouble charging the battery. At first, I was using my phone and its battery was around 20%, and then as soon as I connected the charger (genuine fast charge) it turned off and the red LED indicator kept turning on and off and refused to charge. then after a reboot, it started charging again, and then I left it charging at the night and at the morning I realized it only charged to 60% and the red LED didn't turn on at all. And now that all the battery is drowned out it's not charging at all and drawing no current from the charger ([email protected]).
Has anyone had any experience with it before? Is this a battery problem or the USB charging port flex cable which has some ICs on it (example)?
I'd appreciate your answers.
I can't tell from your story that you tried another charger ? I recall a similar charging issue from my HTC One X a few years back.
Replaced the charger and all issues disappeared.

Yes I have, Also seconds before it ran out completely I tried to check if adb works. connected it to my laptop and on the bootloader mode the adb recognized the device but the red LED didn't light up.

That's correct because a device doesn't charge in bootloader mode. Only off state, running OS or Dr TWRP recovery.
If you tried a different charger it can be pretty much only down to hardware, can't give any advice at that level.

Oops, I meant recovery mode.
does the device charge in the stock recovery?

I'm afraid not, only the custom one.
I had almost the same problem with my phone. I sent it to a repair center and acording to their report, the circuit which is responsible for the monitoring of the charging process had a loose connection. Maybe because I dropped the phone a few times. Unfortunatly the circuits of modern phones are all on the same circuit board, so they had to change the whole motherboard of the phone. But now everything works fine.
So I just opened the phone and disconnect/reconnected the battery connector and it eventually started charging with the stock charger, but it charged up to 60% and then stopped. retried the same steps and no luck this time. then I tried charging the battery with an external li-ion charger (I know it's a dangerous task )
this time it charged up to 4.11 volts and then I turned on the phone and again the battery dropped to 60%. so I believe the battery is really dead and needs replacement. I'll update you when I replace it.

Turns out I was wrong, my case was similar to yours. had to waste $9 on a battery to find out
it just fixed by disconnecting/reconnecting the USB connector bottom of the board, but I don't know how the flex cable for the back button got cut so now I have to replace the whole bottom circuit ($17 approx.) :crying:

So I went through the hurdle of replacing my battery and charge port, and the battery transplant went well, went from 70% to 100% battery health (yay!).
The first charge port I purchased (this is all eBay stuff) had a busted Recents button (copper trace in ribbon cable was nicked - when the part was removed from original phone for sure), so I complained and got a replacement; second one works well.
And because all bad things come in threes, the phone developed an echo (on the opposite side of the conversation) which I think I caused by ripping a bit of the mic rubber isolator which points towards the mic hole in the battery cover.
I believe I fixed it (still testing) by glueing some foam padding on the backside of the mic (on the charge port PCB, facing the battery cover).
Long story short, opening up the phone is a b###h, so do multiple repairs together, be careful not to break anything else (easier said....).
Good luck, let us know how it went.
So here's an update, First of all, I'm pretty happy with the battery replacement, It can hold like 10 hours of my usage while the old one could handle up to 6-8 lately, it's unbranded, and I got it from a local phone part store.
Second, the replacement for the charger flex turned out to be pretty good quality, and I've had no problems with it so far. I got it for $11 from AliExpress, but now it's about $10.5. But when I replaced everything and tried to reassemble the phone and tighten the screws it showed up with charging problems again, and I tried disassemble/reassembling the phone and reconnecting the charger flex, and the next time it charged but with no fast charge, so in the next try I also tried cleaning the flex connector with cleaning alcohol, and for the third try it finally started charging with no problems.
So now after like 2 weeks, it's had no problems so far.
