Hey guys and gals ... I've searched the Internet far and wide looking for the correct APN settings to allow MMS and Data on a Straight Talk AT&T SIM using an unlocked T-Mobile device with no luck.
So naturally I started playing around with it on my own and figured it out so I thought I would share it with everyone who was curious.
The default APN settings ST gave me worked OK for data, but not MMS --- which was weird.
Here's my APN Settings:
Name: ATT 4G LTE (of course you can name it whatever you want)
APN: tfdata
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: PAP
APN Type: default,mms,supl,hipri
APN Protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO Type: None
Again, this is using a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 with an AT&T SIM card on Straight Talk.
I don't live in the greatest area for AT&T 4G LTE but I get pretty decent speeds anyway. Better than I was getting on T-Mobile HSPA+ in my area anyway. Plus, overall AT&T coverage is better, which is why I personally opted for the $45 "Unlimited" Plan VS T-Mobile's $30 plan.
Also, I have only been on the service 9 days and managed to rack up 3.75GB of data so far (testing for throttling) and it hasn't happened yet, so I'm happy with that as I will rarely break the 2.5GB barrier.
These settings do allow for MMS & Data ---- which is awesome, because that was the only thing stopping me from porting my real number over :good:
I realize my screenshot doesn't show off very high speeds, but considering my T-Mo service was only getting 2-2.5mbps average, and the average now is 5-6mbps .... I'll take it.
Odds are, if you are in a more popular part of the country, AT&T will love you more
Got any questions just ask!
I still had problem's sending MMS with your APN setting and what got everything for are this APN
Name -Straight Talk
Apn- tfdata
MMSC- http://mms-tf.net

Thanks Man!
Just got my new Xperia Z Ultra and this thing is a real beast! I used to think my Note and Note II were beasts but they're NOTHING compared to this monster. Yes, it fits in the front pockets with jeans on and it smokes anything I've thrown at it.
The only thing I'm waiting for is to root it but I think I may hold of a bit since I use Apex Launcher and can hide all the bloatware anyway. I never used the camera and ask the other Samsung crap anyway so this is good for me. But I gotta tell ya this screen is just incredible, absolutely stunning and I found it for $629.00 in Chicago. Since I live in Indiana they shipped it overnight free of charge and I didn't have to pay tax. Which is really cool.
But thanks again,

tech support
Don't bother with tech support or the forums. Wow, useless. I had an older t-mobile sim with no issues. Switched to the new AT&T LTE sim. Great speed but cannot receive MMS. I am pretty sure I have tried every possible set of APN settings. Oh well. Anyone want to buy an S4 with low miles?
What should my APN settings be for a Nexus 4 with I believe a new Straight Talk micro sim card? I just bought it from Walmart.
I just upgraded to 4.4 as well and I don't seem to be getting H+ now.

No idea, but you'll get better answers in the Nexus 4 forums as there are probably people there who have your set up and already know what to do.

If that's the case then my sincerest apologies. That just really rubbed me the wrong way.
Dude im about to try these apns. I do recently got a straight talk att sim for my tmobile s4. I get LTE with it in my area.. Reason i choosed att than tmobile is because straight talk doesn't have lte on tmobile straight talk.
The apns I had I couldn't send or receive mms and I had the ones they offered me with their App.

I was indeed speaking of the Straight Talk support forums. I will be more clear in the future. XDA has been an amazing resource and every developer has my sincerest gratitude for contributing to the community. The XDA forums are great. I wish I had something useful to contribute more often.
The resurrection of this thread is due to Straight Talk releasing new AT&T SIM cards with LTE and a new set of APN settings. The MMS failures seem to be randomly associated with many different phones, but I have not been able to find a common denominator or a solution. If I find one, I will bring it back here and give back to the community that gives so much to me.

Sorry about that! Glad you like it here
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
Well these apns didnt worked for me. I called traight talk and their support sucks. I got the apns from their website again and turned out I can send mms but cant receive. When somebody send me one it takes minutes for my phone to get a message saying about mms tap to download. But it fails and never do.
Wait you said you have reached over the 2.5GB of data and you're not being throttle yet? I just got this service so im not sure if they will or not. So far im not sure how much data I used since ive been testing a rom im making.

Question for ya, (whether its stupid depends)
When you say lte working that means that you are getting close to the same speed as someone with an att phone and contract. I just got the att sim with ST in jersey and average 5-8mbps down. People in my area with att get true lte speeds. I have been reading various forums and the common consensus seems to be that you will get just that speed 5-8mbps after fighting with your apn.

Yes those are the speeds that I am seeing as well (generally average 8MBPS). I guess it is throttled on AT&T's end, but 5-8mbps will keep me happy.

I have gone though all the posts that I can find about the right apn setting for a GN on ATT.
I have tried the following.
1. The default, Cingular 410. This gets me somewhat connected. I connect, but pings are way hight and speed is 1 MB down and if I am luck 500 Kb up.
2. I have tried pta / phone. Seems to connect but I can not get online.
I went to a ATT store and had them make sure I was provisioned for a HSDPA+ plan, with I think is the smartphone plan.
This sim came from a Vivid. So it was provisioned for LTE.
Any suggestions on what steps I need to take to get a reliable connection on my GN. Dam I like this phone, but bringing an unlocked phone to ATT is a pain...
Thanks
Matt
You shouldnt have to setup anything. I popped in my att sim and all apn was automatically entered. Its a 5 year old sim.
What did you change?
My AT&T SGS2 (my Galaxy Nexus is T-Mobile) wasn't connecting to data although it had the correct APNs.
I called them and it turned out they needed to switch over the data plan to a "4G smartphone data plan" on their end (from a BlackBerry data plan that it had before). Your issue may be that you are still on the LTE plan. For the Galaxy Nexus, the correct plan would most likely be the 4G smartphone plan.
The APNs that I have on the SGS2:
Name: ATT PHONE
APN: Phone
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: internet
everything else is <Not set>
then I have a 2nd APN (which I guess is needed for MMS)
Name: ATT WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: mms,supl
everything else is <Not set>
I have the ATT PHONE APN selected and everything works (including sending and receiving MMS) just fine.
Hope this helps
No go.
I went to ATT and had them put me on a LTE plan.
Still no data.
I added variations of the pta apn and it alway reverts back to the cingular apn.

From what I understand you do not want to be on a LTE plan as Gnex is not an LTE activated phone, this can cause spotty or zero coverage for data.
Make sure your on 4g smartphone data plan, maybe try a new sim card and then pop in these settings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1149523.html
You should be good to then!
PS:
You only need the phone and mms apns!
That's right, the GSM Galaxy Nexus doesn't have LTE. I'm certain changing the data plan to the 4G smartphone plan (non-LTE) will fix OP's issue.
ATT won't put me on a 4g plan. They say the nexus is not reconized on the system and it defaults to a 3g plan.
They can not override it.
There only solution is for me to get another 4g phone that is att branded. Get 4g plan put on my account and then move that sim..
Dam, this sucks.

Dam, this is just about the worst Nexus I have owned. I have tried all the US radios and the xx radios, but my connection just plain sucks.
I have done the IMEI changing thing and they gave me a plan that says:
"SMT Personal" on the bill" and when I go into manage my features it says: "Smartphone bundle: Data Plan for SmartPhones. Unlimited domestic data usage. Only available for upgrades. Requires customers to be on a "Gold List" SmartPhone Plan prior to upgrade to 4G device."
Is this the correct 4G (HSPA+) plan for those changing from an iPhone unlimited plan?

Do you have an unlimited data plan? If so, AT&T seems to be throttling people that still have the unlimited data plans.
Took my Yakjuzs to ATT (purchased in HK), they scanned the IMEI of the phone (behind battery) then put that in the system and gave me a new SIM, my old one was iPhone from about 2 years ago.
On Sunday AM when everyone is asleep I get upwards of 6 meg down and 1 up, just now got 2 down and .5 up.
So, it varies. I live in Orlando Fl area.
I got no special SIM, nothing out of the ordinary and it's fast enough for me. Is it LTE fast? No, but I chose the Nexus and with that the speed penalty.
It's the same speed as my old "4G" Motorola Atrix.

While my Vivid is able to get online np and keep a connection. While the Nexus required multiple battery pulls, though out the day to get online.

So, I have an Vivid. I had ATT set me up for LTE. This works fine with my Vivid. Moving that sim to my GN and using the pta apn
While I do connect, I can't even run speed test.
I am somewhat lost on what plan on ATT I need and what apn I need on the GN for it work on HSDPA+ or 4G.
Any help and or suggestions??
Even using the default apn, cingular 401, my speeds and horrible. The phone is un usable.
Hey guys,
I've heard that T-Mobile's GSIII will work with AT&T 3G. What I haven't seen is what APN settings one should use on the phone to get data working. I'm thinking about buying one to use with an AT&T Straight Talk sim, but I need to know that it's going to work before I spend the money. In case you're wondering why I"m not just buying an AT&T one, it's because a guy on Craigslist has an unlocked one that he's selling but it's the TMo version. Thanks guys!

Hello,
I have been having terribly slow data speeds on ATT in Alabama. I thought after my bill cycle renewed that it would get better. But my bill cycle renewed on January 16th and I'm still getting slow data. Slower than I have ever gotten like 1 megabit per sec to 3 megabits per sec. I usually get 4 to maybe 7 megabits per sec. Is anyone else having issues in Alabama?

I'm not from Alabama so I'm not really sure how strong the signal is around your area and if it's normal or not. I suggest you try the Network Signal Speed Booster from the Play Store (sorry I'm not able to post links yet since I'm below 10 posts) and see if it improves anything. What the app does is reset your phone's radio connection and find the nearest cell site so you can receive better signals. I hope this helps

It depends on the month lmao. I thought that's what it was. but.... my bill cycle restarted on the jan 16 and it was still slow. I went to AT&T store yesterday. first off the guy wanted to know where i got my galaxy nexus. but he said they were having issues with their service and to download mark the spot app. but i did and it kept making me send crash reports. anyway the guy gave me a new sim card. I just put my sim card in my old HTC Inspire 4G and I got like 8 megs down. when I'm getting 1 meg down on the galaxy nexus. so I'm like WTF?
Did you get your gnex new? What radio baseband is it on? I can verify that htc phones have stronger antenna reception, but not to that extent..

yes i bought it brand new on july 2, 2012
baseband version is I9250XXLH1
Got mine just about the same time! I wonder if you were to call them and see if they are still having issues [which seems obviously not if the inspire works]. Then again, is the inspire hspa+ or lte? Is the new sim set up for hspa+ or lte? Only other thing i could think of is trying to flash a different radio, just to try them out.
Also, have you looked into the crash reports from mark the spot? Have you tried to find out why it crashes?
Not sure what the issue. Att said they were having issues and yes I'm set up on hspa+ its gotten better since I used the APN the HTC inspire had. But it still goes up and down.

Put in my net10 Tmobile sim, and activated and updated the apn. I can make/recieve calls, send and recieve text AND MMS PICTURES, but when I try to use data I only get the "G" symbol and slow as **** speeds (like .07mbs down)
Any way to fix this? I know it should work but its just not.
Sorry bout the (dot) com thing, wont let me post links and it's kinda important.
Alright, after flashing a new modem I get "E" instead of just G and slightly better speeds.... and by better I mean about ~0.15mb/s ._.

Before we go into too much troubleshooting, check your imei. Settings > about phone > status
That's sounds like a what happens with a Verizon phone on at&t. In don't think the bands are compatible that net10 leases. I think it also varies greatly by area. Straight talk would be the best for a prepaid using an at&t phone

I looked there and I don't know what you mean by check it, but it is the correct numbers in the settings, and it matches the back of the phone... Also I don't know what IMEI SV means (software version maybe?) but it says 2.

Net10's website simply says any unlocked GSM phone operating on 850 and 1900 MHz bands, which this phone does, and T-Mobile upgraded their towers last year from 1700 to 1900 in Tampa, so it should work just fine.
Is there any way for me to check what bands a phone is currently using? If so I can check on my brothers phone which is a T-Mobile phone running on Net10. If I could check what band's it's actually using for the 4g it's receiving then I can confirm for a fact that the problem is on my end.
Either way though, thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it.
EDIT: After about two hours searching I cannot find a way to find out exactly what band he is using, however I realized since his is a T-Mobile phone it would probably show 1700 either way. I need someone with a iPhone or other GSM in Tampa to confirm I guess... Kinda a problem tho.
Tried these settings? Should be able to get H or H+

That's not what Net10's site says.... but regardless no, it didn't work. That one doesn't even work on EDGE, it tries to get me to log in at some T-Mobile site but the site doesn't load, just blank page, so no that's not it.

well im on simplemobile which is tmobiles frequency also.. I am using stock modem, 1747UCDLK3, I get 4g speeds of 4000 - 17000 kbps depending on time of day.. better at night time...
I made a few stock roms, all working great... im on the tmobile build now.. just made it a few days ago... check my signature..
Build-11_15_2012_UCDLK3_S3_I747_JB411 regular AT&T, works great... speeds 4000 - 17000 kbps shows up 3g and 4g.
Build-12_12_2012_MUMBLL1_S3_I747_&_747M_JB411, Canadian claro rom, also made one for AT&T works great also.. speeds 4000 - 17000 kbps, shows up 3g and 4g
Build_01_17_2013_UVDLJC_S3_I747&T999_JB411, tmobile rom, cant really test cause I used up my 250mb of 4g, but I am getting and E instead of 3g.. speed on 3g is 195kbps. hmm slow.. I usually get 240 or 244 kbps..
I changed the build prop to represent ATT d2att... everything works great...

Huh, Well I installed the last one on that list and it works!!! I get 4g and first speedest hit 8.5 down 1.5 up. Not too shabby compared to 0.15 on edge lolol
So I guess now my question is how did you do it? What if anything did you change and why does 4g not work at all on CM10.1? Curious.
For me I had to do a factory data reset, once I did it worked perfectly on the stock rooted ROM.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
well I got it to work, the 4g that is... but I had the same problem with my wifes phone with the E.. edge which is 2g.. slow data...
I haven't done anything to my wifes phone for over a week, I think its tmobile antenna, which I use simplemobile..
I noticed my s3 would work downtown tampa, but not where I live in town and country... all around my area I was getting E... for a brief second or so I would see 4g and it would change immediately to E.
so I changed the following step last night to make both phones work and got 4g..
in settings... more settings... wireless and networks... mobile networks.. NETWORK MODE= Changed to WCDMA ONLY... seemed to do the trick.. I never had to do that before..

Well I was too hasty before, my phone only gets 4g in a couple spots out and about Tampa. Most of the time it's only Edge, which leads me to believe it is in fact just T-Mobile sucking.
I tried that WCDMA setting and that disconnects me from mobile networks completely. Like if I was in airplane mode.

I have the same problem. I have an unlocked att on tmo and never see 4g, only E. so my question is what exactly did you flash to get that working? Was it the Tmo rom or the ATT one? I am pretty good at all this but just wanted to make sure i download the right file. Thanks.
This isn't exactly NEW information, but it's something that I had just noticed. I knew that StraightTalk had introduced LTE into their prepaid plan, but apparently Net10 has as well. Granted, it's not unlimited data, but for the average user, 2.5GB should be more than plenty.
I've been on Net10 since July of this year. It's been pretty solid so far and my only complaint was the lack of 4G/LTE service. After flashing the new MK2 modems today I noticed for the first time that my Network Icon was showing 4G LTE; not just the standard 4G when connected to 3G or H+. Also Settings->About Phone->Status shows me as being connected to LTE... so just throwing that out there.
I'll throw out my APN settings that have working MMS and everything; although I do believe they're the standard APN settings on Net10's page.

This looks promising. In your opinion then, there's no downside at all to doing this? I don't use Wifi calling so I would not miss that. What kind of data speeds do you actually get? If it's even close to what I get now (mid 20's, usually), I'm sold. The only concern I have is this sentence in their "transferring a number" section: In order to transfer or port in your phone number to NET10 you must have a NET10 wireless phone. I plan on calling them to clarify, but does this mean I can't bring my current number over with my phone, that I would need to buy one from them? That would be a deal breaker. Thank you.

I didn't see a down side. I was fine just getting 3G as I'm not usually in an LTE area anyway. Why pay $90 a month when you can get pretty much the same exact coverage for half the price? I came from AT&T and have the same coverage as i did previously.
As far as speeds go, I was just shy of 20 down when I tested the other day. I would upload a picture of it now, but I'm not getting too great of speeds where I am right now. Currently I'm only getting about 7 down and 12 up.. But I'm also in the middle of nowhere atm. I'm getting the same down speed on LTE here with 2-3 bars as i do on full bars of 3G. Upload is considerably slower on 3G though.
As far as porting your number, yes you can port it. It's a simple process and I do believe their website explains how to do it. I think I called though and had them do it over the phone. I do remember that your number still had to be active on your current network.. As in don't cancel your service until you set up net10. In fact, once you start the porting process, they take care of canceling your current service anyway.
And you don't need to buy a device from them, check the BYOP (bring your own phone) program.

FYI Net10 IS StraightTalk. In fact the APN settings are the same when using the new AT&T ST sim as the ones you posted :good:

Net10 is StraightTalk's non-WalMart-subsidized side. I know they use the same APN's, but while StraightTalk had 4G, Net10 was stuck on 3G.

Straight talk have LTE for their AT&T sims not on tmobile sims.
