Hi all,
My phone's USB port does not work at all. I need to get the stock software back on to take it back to Sprint, but cannot use Odin to do so (because of the bad USB port).
I tried flashing the FL24 tar file (from Rwilco12's repository) using Mobile Odin (I checked wipe cache & dalvik, and selected the file in the "System" button), but I must've done something wrong because it wouldn't boot, and CWM recovery was still there. So I restored my last backup.
Any input on why the flash didn't take? Did I use the wrong tar file? Am I doing something wrong in Mobile Odin?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! =)

I have not had to do this, but I'm thinking that if you flash an ICS or GB rom in recovery, you might be able to upgrade to the latest stock OTA available in settings>updates
I think you need Mobile Odin Pro to flash that. Mobile Odin free will only flash kernals, at least mine will only flash kernals.
Do you need stock or stock w/ root? What ROM and version are you on now?

What's your goal? Upgrade or replacement? That drives much of the answer, as expediency is the driver here. Your phone having a busted USB port limits your options at the store. If it's upgrade, just wipe the dang thing from CWM, remove your SD card and call it a day. You've got a real shot at getting a nominal amount of credit for a busted phone towards a new one. If it's replacement, your options are entirely different.

I decided I'm just going to take micmars's suggestion and wipe the thing in recovery. Initially, I was trying to get the phone replaced because I wanted to delay my upgrade for a few months until the new s5 or maybe the Nexus 5 came out, but I decided just to upgrade tomorrow when I'm eligible and get the Note 2 (can't justify Sprint's ridiculous $350 on-contract price tag for the Note 3).
Again, thanks for everyone's help and input!

Just seen this... man that micmars always has the right answer...
Pillzbury if you're like me and hate when something doesn't work and want to know how and why...
You could have put the fl24 stock rom on the sdcard..
Then used mobile Odin and el29 direct boot kernel...once in el 29 recovery flash stock rom... should be good to go...
Glad you got it figured out anyway... like I said..micmars the man..
Sorry you won't be around in this forum... Good Luck...

Ah, it DOES bother me when something doesn't work and I don't know why! Thanks for your answer.
The E4GT was a solid phone, but I will not miss having to flash back to a safe kernel when going between ROMs.

Update 9-4
Added link to kernel source at bottom of post.
Got boot, got ext4 converting automatically, got stable. Also got a brick from being to tired and flashing via heimdall by putting something in the wrong input.
No way to test at this actual moment, this project bricked 2 tabs and im am down to last one, which i am using for cm7.
I am trying some extreme and radical stuff here, so bricking was expected. Those GSM owners have to many options, its high time we one-up them.
Power to the CDMA LOL. ha ha ha
No link except to source for right now, dont want anyone to hurt their tab. Ill get back to the kernel as soon as i am done tweaking the kernel for CM7

Might be moving to sprint eh? That could be interesting.
So, i'm gonna assume this hasn't been tested on a sprint tab yet? Might just flash it in the morning to see how things go...

As much as your hurtin man i would take it easy. V1 and v2 work great already. We can wait. However if your like me you gotta have something to take your mind off stuff. Great work! Very glad to see some verizon love for once. Froyo was getting old fast.

Flashed and went through the process of wiping cache, factory wipe and reset, and rebooted. Got as far as the verizon wireless screen and froze there. No animation ( after the first animation) or anything. Went back to the stock Gingerbread.
Flashed twice. Once just the kernel and then adding the kernel to the stock Gingerbread. No luck either time. I did have the cw recovery though......
Just because I can, I had to give this kernel a try on the Sprint Tab. It booted into CWM once, failed the ext4 conversion so I told it to reboot recovery. That's where it all went wrong, as the stock recovery took over. Back to stock now to do some other stuff, then back the V1 for Sprint.
Hey oldmacnut,
You say Dan bricked his tab? Mind if I take a look at it? I've been taking Android devices apart and putting them back together for a while now, I could probably fix it, and if I can, I can send it back.

I couldn't figure out to update with Odin... It's weird. It wouldn't start flashing, always failed. Updated with Heimdal (I got the extracted files from .tar files. Wound up slowing my processor down considerably. Flashed it back to VZW firmware. The processor is still slow and it heats up and at times does not respond. Think I might have to send it to Samsung to get it fixed and the modem. Trouble is, what will be a good accuse if I messed up the components inside it with Sprint firmware? Think I might say I left it in the car and it over heated and it wont work right now. Good Idea?

I am not sure if there is an actual release stock firmware for a SCH-I800 model of mine. I think I have random roto backups.... I have flashed it back stock many many times and once the modem files upload, nothing happens. Heimdall doesn't say Flashing Complete.
Guys, I'm finally home after 2 days of Dr appts out of town.
1. I'm drained
2. My right arm is so bad I can't move it
3. I have no internet at home now, and the tab is getting bad coverage.
My arm alone is enoughbto keep me off the computer, web access or not, its bad, it sucks. I'm going to reach out to a few people today, try to get some help with wrapping up what I have going right now.
If my arm keeps deteriorating the way it is, I will not be able to do anything on the computer, let alone hold my tab.

MTD? Then you are screwed. You can't get back to stock without Odin or Heimdall. You need to repartition. BUT there is an MTD version of the FB15 leak which should look enough like stock to get you through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522816
That is the best you can do. You should also do the 2 flashable modems to get you to EL30 and delete Superuser before you bring it in.

This thread scares the hell out of me. A bad USB port on your epic is a fatal blow to your potential sprint insurance coverage. I cant think of anything worse, especially if your on MTD. Although, if your paying for insurance, i dont think it should really matter what firmware/rom you have on your device.
To the OP, you should be fine. As long as you can make it look at stock as possible, the average sprint employee is not smart enough to get into specifics. They are usually pretty cool about it. As a matter of fact, the tech at my local sprint store put gingerbread on my phone a week before it was released using odin (this was before I knew anything about flashing or rooting), most of the tech's do exactly what we do, so dont sweat it too much.

The one I posted a few posts back (post 16) by Bbelos is the closest to complete stock for MTD. Just delete superuser when done. Then you are only left with CWM recovery as evidence.

Flash back using odin. sfhub's one click odin is the safest and fastest way. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101)
Flash back to like el29. Then use the auto root package which is linked in that post to flash an el29+cwm kernel. From there u have recovery and can restore a gb backup.
OR
You can flash one of rogue's ics kernels using odin. That will give you an ics recovery and u can restore gb backup from there.
First option is safer IMO.

Ok so here's my story. I bricked about a week and a half ago and I reeeally dont want to do it again. I got sloppy. I have done a LOT more reading with the aokp roms and such and think I have a pretty good understanding on how to avoid another brick. So my question is... Im on venum's hydra rom right now and I want to flash the el26.cmw kernel via mobile odin just to make a back up. I just want to know if its safe to do?? Can I flash the kernel via mobile odin, get into recovery as soon as it starts too boot up, make the back up, then flash back to an aosp kernel and be ok?? and If I want to go back to Gingerbread Do I just make the back up, flash the el29 one click odin restore, and Im good? Then to go back to my back up I made of the hydra rom, I would flash the el26.cmw, flash the hydra rom, gapps, and then flash the el26.cmw again and make my restore? Its a multiple question I know... I just want to know if im gonna brick another phone. I really like this one Its the white version!!
My suggestion.. More reading on your part. Anything that has Sfhub's name on it will set ya strait.
spoon feeding is not one of my strong points... Sorry.

If I might offer you the advice that I had to learn the hard way... don't get impatient. If your phone looks like it's not doing anything, but hasn't told you that it's all clear DO NOT TOUCH IT. Wait for a reboot, or for your computer to tell you it's safe to pull the plug or reboot.
The reason why u bricked the first time is due to kernel incompatibility. U need gb kernel for gb and ics kernel for ics. Otherwise it won't boot up.

Prick.
I'm having some issues with my phone rebooting or powering off frequently, especially when I plug it into a charger. I don't think I have the power button issue. I suspect it is the battery (although the battery was replaced Oct 2012 at the sprint store) and have another on the way. I want to exhaust every possible option in testing, so I want to take my phone to off the shelf stock. I currently am running rooted sprint JB, and I am looking for a way to remove all user files on internal storage as well as the tweaks (have comadose installed and had kobridge before) just to make sure it is not from a bad flash. I know how to go back to stock unrooted GB27 with Nodata via ODIN, however I want to make sure ALL tweaks and user files are removed too. Ideas?

The only thing I can say is if you have a CWM recovery installed boot into it and wipe all storage areas with that, then use the ODIN one-click RESTORE version (not NODATA as RESTORE will wipe all user data from the phone). That's about the best I can do for you. I just did it the other day to my phone and it wiped literally everything from the device, including the custom boot-screen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191954
A slip of the tongue, I meant restore, not nodata. I can mobileodin el29 directboot. What should I do in CWM to ensure all internal storage, system data, and tweaks is completely wiped? I usually use JB format all x2 but that doesn't delete pictures etc, so I am assuming it's leaving possible conflicts from flashing roms
OK, I flashed el29 directboot to CWM, formatted EVERYTHING I had an option to in CWM, did a restore to stock unrooted but it still knew my wifi password when the phone powered on which makes me think not all the data had been reset...
Try stock recovery do a "factory reset"after that it should ask you for wifi password.

If you are rooted, use Mobile Odin Lite to flash a stock EL29 KERNEL (.tar). - I would highly suggest this particular way as it's how I do it and I've never had any issues doing it with Mobile Odin Lite. Mobile Odin Lite
If you're going to use CWM to flash the stock EL29 KERNEL, use the .zip version.
You could also always try the One-Click EL29 KERNEL, but I've never used a One-Click before so I can't help you on that process but I'd imagine it's the same as flashing the ROM with a One-Click.

After that just do a factory reset through the stock recovery. You should be all set after that.

I used mobile odin lite to flash EL29 directboot kernel. This allows the use of CWM after flashing the kernel. Once in CWM I formatted everything I could in CWM and formatted cache and dalvik. From there, I used a one click desktop ODIN to flash stock sprint unrooted. IAfter all this, I am still having issues with constant restarts. I replaced the battery and am still having the problem. I am unsure if this is software or I have a power button issue. Does anyone have any tips I can try?

From there, I used a one click desktop ODIN to flash stock sprint unrooted. IAfter all this, I am still having issues with constant restarts. I replaced the battery and am still having the problem. I am unsure if this is software or I have a power button issue. Does anyone have any tips I can try?

Well, then I'd probably say it's a power button issue, but I've also heard of moisture in the charger port (not necessarily liquid damage, could just be moisture in the air) might cause random bootloops as well. Could be a number of things, but you've stamped out your issue from being software related (as far as I can see). Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
Depending on what stock ROM you want there's a one click you run through odin that's wipes the internal memory as well

Oh man... This is bad. You don't have to do all that confusing stuff!
Here is the link for the stock FL24 build for E4GT D710:
http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=116
Download that file, run it, put phone into recovery, plug phone into computer and press start once "COM" shows up on the one-click...the usual. When I use this, once the phone boots up I always just go into settings-->privacy-->restore phone and check format USB (that is if you want everything deleted off your SD card). I back everything up to my 64GB removable sd card before I do this.
Hope I helped!

Just curious, but any particular reason why flashing to stock ICS may be better than stock JB in this case?
Thanks.

It's not. I don't think he realizes that JB has gone official.

I go back to ICS because, at least in my area, 4.1.2 JB has not gone OTA which, imo, you can't go wrong with it. It's stable and it's just what I do. I'll eventually switch to a stock JB build for a one-click restore, just not yet. I'm not living under a shell I know JB has gone official.

JB is not an area specific thing... You can only officially get it over the wire from Samsung's site or by using kies. They will not do it over the air. So no matter where you are in the world, JB is official for all three variants of the E4GT.
ICS is the worst thing to hit the E4GT and is not stable. You obviously do live under a shell if you think it is. IMO, CM10.1 is more stable.
So, let's try not to make poor excuses with completely wrong information when posting next time.

Hahaha woah there dood...let's not get offensive, no need to be so harsh! If I've learned anything from Miley Cirus it's that
1) never let your weed-eater cut your hair and...
2)Everybody makes mistakes :good: :good:
Jesus man, sorry I haven't devoted my life to learning everything there is to know about cell phones just so I can take people down and attack them on online forums. Although, if that's all you can do to boost your self-esteem, then go for it. make me feel stupid! I am living under a shell. I make poor excuses. I am an idiot. I know nothing about anything. I should probably rethink my life.
Thank you, Mr. "Graydiggy" for this eye-opening experience
Rough night for me. My bad. All I am saying is that you should take more time to read. A little bit of bad advice could render someone's phone unusable. Even though your advice was decent, you could have possibly left someone in the dark when it comes to a much better version to use.
Like you said, mistakes are made, but some mistakes can cost hundreds of dollars. Its better to know what you are talking about and if you aren't sure, search for the answer.

Yeah I gotchu maynee..no worries, I was just kinda posting what I do and I still don't really think running a ics one-click versus a 4.1.2 one-click is a hundred(s) dollar midtake. For some reason though I hadn't even thought about downloading a 4.1.2 one-click. probably a lot easier and hassle free?
Its not that it is a costly mistake, but it can be quite troublesome. I was saying that one should know every detail of something before posting. I have seen many a brick happen do to someone saying to do one thing that was completely wrong. So even if it has no potential of bricking you, take into account that it could just be wrong.
GB27 Is the best in terms of stock ROMs. People that say otherwise either don't know what they are talking about or it's horrible user error and misinformation.
