I know it's still early days but I'm wondering, are there going to be any ported Roms such as MIUI, AOKP and Halo? And custom Kernels as well? Thanks.

This isn't a very popular phone and there aren't that many developers out there who own this device either. Thus it is gonna be rare for any other ports for the time being. No developer has stepped forward to offer ports as of yet
Why do you think it isn't very popular? It's better than the HTC one mini, and the performance is excellent. The S3 mini wasn't very popular (to begin with) and had plenty of unofficial ROM development.
Maybe I'll see about compiling Roms soon.. I need something other than work to keep me entertained lol.

I meant relative to the flagship phones. It'll take a while but we are all certainly looking forward to it

You have one of the best devs around working on this phone - Arco68.
I have used many many ROMs on my Galaxy W (Arco68's previous phone) and as a result of his hard work and colaboration with other devs more ROMs than I could ever hope for were released for the galaxy W which Samsung abandoned in Gingerbread 2.3.6 (Galaxy W / i8150 has always been consigned to the low usage / legacy device section of XDA) we have had CM9, CM10, CM10.1 from Arco68 - which has helped a myriad of other ROMs be ported LiquidSmooth, Carbon, Xperia UI, Honami UI, TouchWiz 5 etc, etc .
Patience is the key here my friend - never despair about your device not being the most popular around when you have such an amazing dev on your side :good:
I've never experienced arcos work before

I am currently using a Sensation, however I will likely be purchasing a GNEX in the next week or two. I have become accustomed to flashing different ROMs on my Sensation so I wanted to know if a stable (not nightly) version of CM9 was currently available for this device. I checked on the CM site and its a bit hard to determine what is nightly vs stable, so I figured I would ask around here. Thanks in advance, and I hope to be joining the discussions on this forum soon!
no phones have a non-nightly version. NO RC1 version has came out for CM9 regardless of what phone it is.
aokp is really stable + more features than cm9.
Cm9 is stable and fast.

Pretty much what he said. Go through the roms features and change log and you can answer that question on your own.

CM9 newest nightly is always the best f it is newer than RC!
on ZTE Blade I flash always the newest nightly of CM7...
Does GN CM9 Nightly (newest) use the Android 2.3 Gingerbread CM7 music player? If I remember fine then it is using that..
Please, use CM9 AND DONT USR AOKP! We don't need another thread about someone complaining about something not working or horrible battery drain...etc...etc. CM9 is leaps and bounds faster and more stable.

I disagree, AOKP is very stable. It has many features. Don't take what people says. Its about personal preference

I came from the Sensation and while Vorbeth did a nice job with Opensensation, the nightly CM9 I'm running is VERY excellent. The only bugs I saw when I skimmed thru the thread were with people trying to run custom kernels.
And to be honest, the stock ROM was kicking ass too. There's nothing like having a phone that's truly open to unlock and have fun with. Plus, there are no bugs with certain components usually found in phones with sense or touchwiz. Bluetooth, camera, video recording and HD playback WORK exactly the way they're supposed to.
From this point forward, I will only buy a nexus device. I'm not trying to convince you, just giving my honest opinion.

Depends on what you are looking for in a ROM.
I am running AndroidME. Loving it thus far. Basically an improved version of stock JB with some tweaks and theming options: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774165
Also, be aware that there are two different development forums - one for the GSM version and another for the Verizon/Sprint version.
Liquid smooth looks reallly tempting but they took down the link
Ima try the androidme
Thanks alot
Cyanogemod, Stock, AOSP, Pitchblack, Blackice, paranoid Android, or any other?
Long time reader, just got into flashing custom on my Galaxy Nexus, having fun so far. Though only tried bixie custom stock and cyanogemod 10.1 so far. Thanks to all the devs who create the roms and their work and added features.
aokp 4.1.2 milestone 1
no matter what rom/kernel mix i use, this one is always the best
AOSPA hands down. Nothing has managed to take me away from it for months, and before that I was a crackflasher

I love AOKP for the sheer amount of things you can customize in that rom. I used it solely because of the ability to make the nav bar smaller.
I have been a fan of CM since 2009, and have always appreciated their abilities. A lot of roms use them as a base, so they must be doing something right.
I used ParanoidAndroid recently, and while I liked it, and it shows promise, it ran like crap on my phone.
I just use a stock rooted rom (verizon 4.2.2), as it runs the best on my phone. CM, AOKP, and PA were all laggy compared to stock for me.
Stock, because everything else starts acting up sooner or later and I hate restoring my data over and over again.

hello friends
i wanna buy this galaxy w phone. so i wnated to know that is there compelete (or almost compelet) ics and jb roms for this phone?
as i know there is no official update from samsung.
cm9 or cm10.1 or aosp ics and jb?
tnx
Yup, CM10 and CM9 are stable and not further developed. CM10.1 will be developed for a couple of weeks and then it will be End Of Life too.
Our dev is going to buy a new phone so he'll stop developing for Galaxy W.
Enjoy

Cm9 is stable and fast, also it has a good battery life. Cm 10 in my opinion si no so stable, but maybe gives you more performance. Both these two roms were developed by arco, and now they arrived to the end of life release. However there are many other roms based on cm9 and cm10 that are actually well manteined and updated.
Cm10.1 si not so stable, but it is supported for a few weeks, it receives updates for stability and better battery life. There are many other ROMs based on these one, band I think si the most powerful rom for our galaxy W.
Yes, there are a lot of roms available here that give good speed to your phone. Just read the latest comments first to see if there are bugs in the presented rom.
Im new with Galaxy W, and actually im on S4 look and feel ROM, from develop forum. Its very fast and stable.

would it be possible to make it? there is very little gb roms and a big variety of jb roms. personally i hate jb. internet doesnt work, battery drain is faster, gb feels smoother.
It would be cool. But we have very few of devs.

+1 for CM7 . CM 7 is better for ACE 2.
should be moved to general section
+1000!!!
I am tired of JB too.
For me it is more laggy than GB and it would be very great if one of our devs could try to bulid it.
Very cool idea but...wrong thread man!
Personally, few days ago I was thinking about CM7 and and I'm curious why nobody is interested in that project.
I'm for Cm 10.2 my sister have Nexus 4 with Android 4.3 and it's amazing really love it

Nexus 4 is Nexus 4. No need to say more and cheapest version for $199 and you have huuuuge support from google and even more support from xda...
Bagnz0r once said, he compiled CM7, but never shared the info if it worked...
We can hardly run JB with our device, not to talk about 4.3 version.. CM 7 is a great idea..hope someone will be able to compile it.
Will be nice to have CM7 fully working. +1

this trhread shouldnt be in dev section...
for cm 7 - if any source rom can't be compiled (for now ) without knowing bugs so cm 7 cant be compiled also... so wait for fixed source than build whatever you want to use... devs will not make 30 roms for 30 users...
most of users will never downgrade from 4.2.2 ( i am one of them) because 4.2.2 roms are becoming more stable and stable and you will see that in next builds....
Yup... maybe is like you said. Just think that will be good retro rom... if is bugfree. But this is just me. Why this thred is still here and not in general?
Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
How the hell can be bugfree if we have buggy sources for every open source rom?

I seriously sit around and wonder about how ridiculously stupid that statement is.
It IS NOT better for Ace II. Most definitely NOT. Curse anyone who utters these words.
GINGERBREAD DOES NOT NATIVELY SUPPORT MULTICORE CPUs!
So people hold your horses and stop saying "We can hardly run JB". The issue in performance isn't in the SoC or RAM, but in the crappy NAND chips. Whether it's JB or GB -- it will be all the same... Except GB will run worse, because it doesn't natively support multicore CPUs... Well in samsung's stock ROM it does (non-natively) -- but it won't in CM at all.
