Just read the roms op.. and the thread...
Nobody can tell which rom performs the best... because each device can run different....
A perfect example of this is... I can't run dirty unicorns on my phone well... even though it's super stable and others run it with great success..
But if you're looking to get a push in the right direction... I suggest any of the touchwiz based roms in the Android development thread....
FYI.... this question should have been asked in the noob friendly Q & A thread...
^^This
There is no BEST and yet they are all the BEST. Members are expected to research and read through the Development threads. The only thing you will get here is a list of all the ROM's because every member has found what is best for them. You can get the same list by looking at the first few pages in development.
Thread closed.
Have a great day!

That's pretty much why I just use a rooted version of the stock rom.
Yeah, right now im using the stock rom with netarchy kernal
Im a huge fan of the Damage Control and Fresh ROMs. Im a bigger fan of the Fresh ROM and am currently running his 0.5.3 version. Anything that has been removed by the developer you can always re add to make it your own.
I'm using Damage Control right now, but it gets the boot as soon as CyanogenMod is released.

Hey guys, could you either describe or post links to threads describing some of the roms that you're bringing up?
I mainly rooted my phone to customize the hell out of it, but now I'm interested in things liek overclocking it, and using less battery without losing use of my camera and camcorder.
Ok ok so which would be the closest to the features that sense offers by the way on those roms can u use sense widgets
if you really really like sense and do not want to get rid of it you don't have to. the ROMs like Fresh and DC uninstall only parts of Sense...and they put those parts in a folder. if you to add something back like FriendStream or FMRadio for example, then you just double click it to reinstall it.
from your two posts, i'd say use Fresh 1.0.1 or stay with your clean rooted rom. it's ok either way...the nifty thing about getting full root w/ NAND is that you can create an 'image' of you EVO. then load up the DC ROM or the Beast ROM...if you don't like it, revert back to your image and away you go. figure about 5min to create or restore from an image.
install something like adw.launcher or launcherpro and then you can actually see what breaks when your not using sense. (it is very easy, simple and non destructive to flip flop which 'application launcher' you use)
Fresh - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726090
I think Fresh may be a bit more conservative in his work than the DC team. HTC Sense will still be available on both once you are rooted and booted. it won't be until you install/use an alternate launcher that Sense widgets have issue. if you continue to use Sense then you can reinstall those component very easily.
i would suggest that you spend more time reading the Development thread. the answers ARE all here...unfortunately, threads like this one add to the overall chaos on the site. but its ok...search tools are your friend.
TJDuckett - read up on DamageControl and Fresh. Toast and Netarchy have custom kernels available. CM6 will be out soon, you will probably want to read up on it as well. use the xda search or google ( add site:xda-developers.com to your queries). good luck and enjoy.
Oh wow that's alot of good info thanks alot, i try to do as much research as possible before i post anything... one last question n i think i'll be good to go. I have a question about the flash 10.1 that's included... is it ACTUAL full flash, or is it the one that I read about on here (in the NO FROYO NEEDED! thread), that's pretty much bunk?
If it's actual, full flash, then is it one that I can just add onto what I have now?
Because, I'm running rooted 1.47.651.1 with damned near the exact same, custom theme, and don't really see the difference between what I've got and what's listed on this rom.
... definitely not trying to put down anyone's efforts, and in fact I'm asking, because it's so similar to what I'm running that it may be what I go for if it has something enticing.
So, Ive been around the S3 forums for awhile, but not so much the root side. Im wondering which is the best all around recovery? Back on the evo, clockwork recovery was HORRIBLE and flashed all ROMs bad and always messed them up but AmonRa did everything flawlessly.
Is there any S3 recovery's that are messed up and flash roms incorrectly? or does everyone just seem to use a main one? If so, which.
Also another question. Do developers on the s3 actually update OP with bugs people find? On the original evo, it was horrible because there would be so many bugs on some roms and OPs where only updated with change log and not known bugs.
Also, can someone tell me the most used ROMs on the s3? nightlies i tend to avoid because they lack to much details and im practically blindly flashing those.
Any 4.2 stock or 4.1 stock or anything? Any kernel suggestions, anything i should be warned about?
Thanks in advance.
Also, sorry for being a forum pest =p
All of these are subjective questions...try out both CWM and TWRP, find which you like better and look into the Development section to see what roms are available, the only way to know for sure whether a rom would be good for you and whether you like it is to flash for yourself rather than taking peoples words for it
Also, theres been at least 5 other threads like this where people have asked "what rom/kernel?", I would suggest looking for those and reading.

You could do that or just use TWRP .

I came to the GS3 from a long history as an Evo owner. While i was on HTC hardware I loved TWRP as it was always the most stable and best supported. On my GS3 though i find that there is better support for the CWM recovery. It seems to work better in my opinion. I have tried both but keep using CWM. I am a CM10.1 user as well and I think that it likes CWM better than TWRP.
Greetings. I'm coming from an Epic 4g touch. I was fairly comfortable rooting, flashing, tweaking, etc... on that phone. I just convinced Sprint to give me a "free upgrade" to the S3 because I went through 4 E4GTs in a year (lots of build-quality issues, I think I had them all...)
Anyway, the S3 I was given is a refurb ... how do I find out if it's one of the "newer" models that might have trouble with some flashing operations? If I do have one of the newer ones, is there a way to work around the issue? (From what I understand it's something with the bootloader, correct?)
Also, the S3 "landscape" is a little different here. Are the Odin one-clicks a good way to root on this phone? Also is this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2286241) a good way to go if I want to root from my Mac? I also have access to a windows machine if there's no "good" Mac-based way, but it's a clunky old laptop that makes me cry whenever I need to use it.
Finally ... as someone coming from the E4GT, is there anything special I should know about hacking around with the S3?
I've been poking around the threads quite a bit, but it's a little difficult to know what's current info etc... Thanks in advance ... can't wait until I know as much about this phone as I did with my E4GT.

Also all your questions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38172219
also there's nothing changed in the bootloader but the new S3's have some type of safety placed in them that do not allow custom recovery to mount storage. The link I gave you has the modded recoveries when you root. To find out more information go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44262749

Awesome, thanks ... successfully rooted. Figured I'd try the TWRP recovery option since ... hey might as well try ALL the new things.
Ok, now which ROM is most stable and has the best battery life? (woah, woah, put that down I was just kidding)
Seriously though, what are some kernel, rom, tweak combos that folks seem to be having success with? I see you guys have Goddly's comadose over here, I used that with great success on the E4GT. Is there a favorite "close to stock" but debloated, mildly tricked out and tweaked ROM that folks are gravitating toward? On the E4GT, Tdundam's recalked was pretty popular ... anything of that ilk here?
I've also read that some folks have been having trouble installing AOSP ROMs ... is that demon exorcized by rooting with the procedure you suggested?
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to be a guidepost ... just trying to whack my way through the weeds on this new device.
Nope aosp won't flash on new S3's but you can try. lots of good roms I recommend either TPR the peoples rom or MOAR. My kernel of choice is Ktoonsez KT747 kernel and I use Comadose tweaks. Have had great success with it but also visit Team Kernelizers thread also.

Flashed MOAR yesterday ... waiting for it to settle in. So far, I like what I see! Lots of flexibility.
I installed with KT747 and applied some of the kernel tweaks in his thread for the ktoonservative governor and bfq scheduler.
I'll wait on Comadose to see how this settles in on its own. Thanks again for getting me flashing this phone.

After trying my hand at installing a mod (cyanogenmod 10.2) I need to go a different direction and get a more stable rom. So I wanted to give cyanogenmod 10.1 a go. Unfortunately it fails on install. After reading through some forums I saw that I needed to install it after I load up stock fl26. But fl26 also failed on install. I'm going to prep for install with another rom but is there something basic I'm missing here?

Hey bud, Your thread the other day got closed (for asking what the best ROMs are), but let me give you some more pressing advice:
Do a lot of reading before doing anything else. It sounds like you might have jumped into this a bit too quick if you're having this many problems. I don't mean that in a bad way, not at all. None of us knew anything when we started... There is a lot to learn in terms of messing with what's inside our devices. If you can't get a ROM to flash right, I strongly suggest you stop - just set the thing down and read, before you brick it and have no more phone.
Every ROM has a Post #1 (the "OP") that has exact flashing instructions, and links to applicable downloads. Make time for that reading - the FAQ threads, the General threads, and the thread for the ROM you want to flash. Because you're on an older device, I promise you that all of the kinks have been ironed out or bugs are well-known (and not going to be fixed) and this is all available from reading. Okay? Good luck.

Of all the custom roms to pick from you picked CM, for a noob your not doing to good.
You forgot to read or didn't read it enough, you where supposed to do a factory reset before flashing CM.
CM and Touchwiz don't like each other, so you can't have any trace of the former os before you flash that's where the factory reset comes in.
If you can boot into recovery do a factory reset and start all over again.
If not then you try for download mode, and use Odin with a stock firmware to start all over again.
With touchwiz you never forgot the apps.

This comes across as being a little nasty to a new users who's politely asking for help.
And the repeated jabs at Cyanogen by you are not welcome here. No one says you have to like CM, but it's rude and insulting to the phone modding community to continue to badmouth the most popular custom Android ROM and the basis for most other AOSP roms.
If you have criticism of Cyanogen or anything else, there are more mature ways to discuss them. But telling a new member that he's doing a bad job of picking roms by choosing CM is insulting to the member and to the entire CM development team that has deep ties to XDA Developers.

I think my post will help someone in the future if they "read" and search the forum, sometimes a little assertiveness goes a long way Mr.
I spoke no lies. After all I was thanked, In case you didn't notice. !
I think it's called "freedom of speech" .
Some body has to impart some sort of warning, some devs aren't very clear about what they are making available to the community, and think that all that show up at there thread know what they are doing. Many times don't provide support on their own threads and post a cm Web site where your suppose to go for answers.
I have ran Cm on my previous phones successfully and choose not to because of its BUGGY nature, especially on a device that needs to be reliable, my Tab 2 is different it's just for basic use and reliability is not essential. Currently running Cm10.2.1 JB on my Tab 2 and loving it.
And besides you never forget your apps with TouchWiz.

No one cars if you were thanked for a post. If you care about how much you get thanked then you have missed the entire point of the thanks system.
Freedom of speech does not apply here. That is a protection against government encroachment on speech. XDA can prevent you from saying anything on XDA Developers that they want to. Even if they couldn't (they can) your post is still rude. There are mature helpful ways to discuss rom problems.
Developers here are under no obligation to provide ongoing tech support. Nor are any promises made to anyone that ongoing tech support will be provided. This is NOT a support site. This is a development site. Development threads ARE SPECIFICALLY NOT support threads. For that reason users exploring the development threads most certainly ARE expected to know what they are doing. Even then, MANY rom developers, including CM rom developers, DO provide regular tech support. Some of them are great about it, going well above and beyond what is expected here. So your claims about CM developers are inaccurate.
Your complaints about stability are also wrong. Cyanogen STABLE RELEASES are very stable and reliable. (They aren't the most commonly used AOSP rom by accident). Any bugs that do exist in CM stable releases are well documented. So you should know what you are getting prior to flashing.
Nightlies are a different animal. They may be and often are buggy. That's why they are not called STABLE RELEASES. They are released so that users can find the bugs in them. If you run CM nightlies, don't complain about stability or bugs. (Help fix them, but don't complain)
Finally, the CM development team (and all ROM development teams for that matter) build their roms for free in their spare time and them give them to the world asking nothing in return. To contribute nothing to the development of a ROM then complain about the quality of the software and of the developers after they gave their ROM to you FREE OF CHARGE is beyond rude.
If you have problems with ROM stability or bugginess, you have 2 options. 1) Don't use it. or 2) Help contribute to it's further development by improving on code.
Option 3) "complain about the rom and the developers and try to tell other people CM is awful" is not an acceptable alternative.
I'm going to be the adult here and put a stop to this silliness.

You do put a lot of time into trying to help people here. You have 10 posts a day trying to assist people with various problems. That is all in the great spirit of XDA and is highly appreciated. Its only that extra post with the negativity that needs to stop.
