IT FELL. With no case on it onto my ceramic kitchen tile! Luckily it fell with my gym bag as it was on top of it, and that somewhat slowed it down. It's now damaged on 2 corners and the metal housing is sort of scraped in those corners, hardly noticeable but now it's not perfect anymore :crying: I was surprised at how easily the metal can be damaged I can only imagine what would have happened if it fell on pavement. I can't wait for these chinese ebayers to send me my case! estimated shipping time 2-3 weeks (Im in the US)!!!!!

Now when it falls it doesnt hit the phone (unless the floor is very uneven) but I dont cover the beautiful metal/glass with a plastic case.

hey well its a nice thing to go for at least that would make u a bit relaxed for your phone...but these sugru also disturbs the look of the phone so I prefer them till then I don't receive the case so I will go to a retail store of cell phone accessories to get them ...as within 2-3 days when my case will receive I will put off them...don't want to disturb the look...come on Fommy deliver my case ASAP...m desperately waiting....
My god I feel so sorry for you! I am so wary of my phone that I am keeping that damn disgusting factory frosted screen protector until I get one from those Ebay sellers. You can't buy any cover/screen protector that's good with a reasonable delivery date, All those ebay sellers put it at 7-20days, I need one NOW!.
Btw so far my back screen cover is full of scratches

Why my steeled bumpered car looks better than it's polycarbonate (Modern) rival? Is plastic not a result of our own disposable society?
Plastics don't really show craftsmanship, aluminium and glass do. Even if you realise they were made with the same engenering and automation.
Ofcourse plastics have their advantages, too bad it often feels and looks much cheaper...

Actually it was my mom who dropped it and the Desire got it TO THE FACE!!!
I have now 3 pretty big scratches on the aluminium plate, near the power button...
Any idea how to fix that? This is the first time I dropped (actually it wasn't me) my Desire... right into concrete! Ooo how I hate my mom now...
Can't post pics, coz I don't have all my other phones with me... on holyday right now.

The best way to remove sratches is with " Brasso " its for cleaning copper and metal but it is a light abrasive that buffs scratches out or plastic and metal really well.
Just be careful when using as it can get a bit messy, only us a tiny bit.
Good Luck
R
Thanks for the reply!
Will try Brasso when I get home... I hope it will fix it, but I doubt it will remove the scratches, coz they are pretty bad
I think it's plastic not aluminium
When I dropped mine the top corner of the faceplate dented inwards so I'm pretty sure it's metal... as for buffing out the scratched with Brasso, if they're on the faceplate by the buttons as you said I dont thing Brasso (or any other rubbing polish / compund) will help as all this will do is REMOVE the paint / covering. You need to be adding back not taking away - see if you can find a modeling shop they might have some similar coloured pain that you could cover the scratchs with...
Just a thought without seeing the marks...
I did the same as snear and got a plastic cover from Amazon - they were £4 for 3 (DEAL!) and will take most of the abuse in a drop situation - I hope!
If it is metal, try the wax compounds that car accessory shops sell to fill in scratches
Try some super resin polish sold by autoglym, this will fill in the scratch but it wont remove it.
Thanks for all the answers!
I will try some metal filling compound and report back as soon as I finish it
That sucks bigtime buddy... that's why i keep mine in a gel case with a screen protector applied. I would be so annoyed if my phone had marks/scratches on it, especially when the time comes to sell it

Any luck with the scratches?
So I've got to give credit to the fine folks over at the Nexus S forum for giving inspiring the idea. I am a fan of keeping my phone caseless but I'm also a fan of keeping the scratches away. I bought a can of plasti dip in black and sprayed the back cover of the phone. The inside I sprayed 3 coats and the outside I believe 5. I held the can away from the cover about 15 inches while spraying for an even coat. Let it dry 30 mins between coats and sit 4-5 hours when I was finished just as the can said. It turned out great as you can see and now has a scratch proof rubberized cover. The rubber simply peels off if I ever want to remove it.
Looks good, not a bad idea at all. You say you sprayed the inside of the cover as well? Wouldn't think you would need to bother with the inside, why did you cover the inside. Take care.

I sprayed the inside as well so it wouldn't start to peel on the edges. It fits just as snug as it did before despite being sprayed inside too. =) I did cover the hole for the speaker before spraying
How well does it slide in and out of your pocket? Is there any spray that would be more of a soft-touch rubber feel?

It slides in and out just fine. It's just grippy enough to not slide around on my seat as I'm driving. The best thing is if it gets annoying or I want to change it the stuff just simply peels off
i've used plastidip plenty of times on things, and i dont know about the durability of that over time. I use it on emblems on cars to black them out and stuff and small rock chips etc pull it off fairly easily. Plus the finish usually isnt too smooth. i'd rather spend 20 and get the feather case....i can peel that off too

Very cool idea! I decided just to wet sand the back cover to keep it looking like carbon fiber AND to make it a little easier to grip on to - pics are in the link on my signature.
I don't know if I agree with spraying the inside too just to get the edges uniform.... spraying the inside (and, well, the outside too I guess) will help trap in heat, something you don't want when charging a phone with a dead battery because this thing gets HOT as it is!
Also, I don't know if I would advertise the ability to simply peel the rubberized coating right off if you want to remove it. I've used this stuff dozens of times, I actually have my race car's tow hook covered in it, and that thing sees a LOT of abuse, but doesn't come right off.... If you can use this stuff to protect against giant metal hooks scratching off the coating with exactly as many dips in the can as you have layers of spray, I doubt this stuff would come off completely without a fight!

I don't know about it overheating at all although I haven't noticed any problems. As far as it peeling off it peels off without a hitch.. almost too easy, I am going to sand the back of the case in hopes that it will stick a little better. I assume the glossy cover makes it easy to peel but I've peeled it off and sprayed it again already once.

Oh because when I did it 6 weeks ago (right after release of the phone) there were none available
Edit: I misread. I don't like cases. They make the phone too bulky. I now use best skins ever. This peeled off after about a week each time I did it.

Order the screen protector now mate whilst waiting for the phone
Firstly, In my own experience the phone is not a fingerprint magnet at all. It's very good for keeping fingerprints to a minimum. (coming from HTC Desire which loved fingerprints)
As for the scratch. Holy ouch! That looks like a very severe and stark scratch. I'm not sure that would happen just in general use 'around the house'. Did you leave it on a diamond or a piece of carbon or sand grit in your pocket? Do you have any idea what caused that damage to the glass? IT was obviously a very hard and very sharp material.

Maybe I was exaggerating the fingerprint then but it does seem to attract them :/
And honestly, I have jeans on and they aren't tight, I have put it in my pocket to walk from one room to the next. It hasn't touched anything sharp or grazed off anything all I know is I am gutted
Also before I got rid of my S2, I hammered it with a pen and a key to try and scratch it and I didn't :/
I'm sorry for the scratch man. I hear you. I would be the very same. All I can think is that there was a tiny bit of grit in your jeans pocket. bits of grit like a grain of salt are more dangerous to a phone screen than a Stanley blade because they are sharp right down to a few molecules in width.
I kept my phone in a microfibre bag when I got it, until I could replace it with something like a pouch. It wasn't ideal but it was some sort of barrier between my phone and anything that might be in my jeans or trouser pockets.
I bought a microfiber lined Alcantara pouch since then and keep it upright in my pocket so it should keep any grit in my pockets away from the screen.
What will you do now? Is it insured? Maybe you could "lose" it in a month and replace it with new one and buy a pouch. It's nice of you to provide a warning to others. I think salt/sand/grit are the biggest danger guys. Beware whats in your pocket.

I have a logo on my jeans pocket I wondering if it was that? It is a 3 contract and can be returned within 14 days .. I still have the protectors it came with how rigorously will they check it if I can "no longer afford the contract"? I haven't used the Sim or accessories btw, I have been using my S2 things with it
Ps, where did you get your pouch please?
does you logo use rivets? Also a riveted logo around waist could've been.the culprit. Check to see if coming lose as they can be very sharp. Still don't see the fingerprint thing. Even before I put screen protector. Do you have an extra micofiber pouch for sunglasses? They are cheap if you don't. Something is better than nothing.

OUCH! I dropped mine from shirt pocket to road and the back came off but not one single scratch...... I can't see anything non-metal making that scratch!
I'm picky as hell when iit comes to having scratches on my screen. Besides a screen protector, I never clean the screen with.Windex, paper towels or even rags. Goto WalMart and pick up a tub of Armor All Glass Wipes. I keep one in my house and car and have never had a scratched screen by using them. I also believe since they don't leave as much lint as paper towels, you may not get the dust under the screen issue you see in other posts.

Could be that logo (depending upon material), but there are only a few specially tempered (and carbon-enriched) metal alloys hard enough to scratch glass. Check out the other threads on this topic for more. A ring of almost any gemstone would be sufficient as rubies, emeralds, sapphires, topazes, diamonds, garnet, alexandrites, aquamarines, etc. are ALL harder than silica/quartz (glass).
I also noticed that I had a 1cm scratch at the top of my phone this morning and it was quite deep. I cant remember if anything else was in my pocket with my phone but I dont have any diamond tipped keys and I dont usually walk around with sand in my pockets lol. Anyway it was quite noticeble and im not going to stare at that for the next 2 years, and luckily I had a returns bag already from phones4u so I rang them up and as its within 28days of purchase Im still entitled to an immediate replacement so the phones gone off and I should get a brand spanking new phone next week
In the mean time I shall be ordering a zagg screen protector to put on it as soon as it gets here to keep it scratch free in future
Mark.
So I have a cracked back cover, and I now found a crack on the plastic bezel today. Not drop damage. It must be stress fracturing or something. I also have minor scratches on screen. The stuff I wouldn't see until a year of use with prior gorilla glass phones.
My buddy dropped from pocket onto his wood deck and the glass cracked.
I see multiple people reporting cracked screens from minor falls.
Starting to question the reliability of what appeared to be a great device. Phones shouldn't need babied.
Other thoughts or experiences?
Dropped mine the other day, minor dent to bezel next to screen and its barely noticeable. Kicker to the while thing is that I was on my way into T-Mobile to return the case that was on it and I dropped it coming out of my car. It bothers me but at least the screen didn't take any damage. I have the full coverage on it in case of any future damage. But the phone definitely needs to be babied.
No case? No screen protector? I've dropped mine 3-4 times...no damage to either casing or screen. For a $500 device...keep it reliable by buying **** for it.

I haven't needed a screen protector since gorilla glass. That's been like 4 phones ago. I never experienced scratching like I have now.
Seems like you may be a little to rough...Buy a case. Hell even a flip cover would provide "Some" protection. No one ever plans to drop their phone, it happens. Even the smallest dent would bother me lol.
solution = get a case + screen protector. Honestly this is a device you use all day and carry with you. You are bound to drop it, let it slip out of your hand or watch it fall out of your pocket, bag, etc. dropping phones happens! it not just some myth..

Smartass solution: Take better care of your stuff. I've had a cell phone for 8 years and not once have I dropped any of them on a hard surface.
Real solution: Get a protective case, not a cheap little plastic something. Otterbox Defender or Trident Kraken.

buy it at best buy and buy the black tie for 9.99
when i ordered mine from verizon i went on youtube to learn about it and saw a guy drop an iphone and the S3 from his pocket level. Both screens cracked.
verizon offered for 6.99 two repairs per year each at a cost of 100. And, no more than 2 per year!
Best buy i found out for 9.99 will repair or replace for nothing and as many times as you like!!!
I canceled verizon and waited till best buy had it and bought it there with the black tie plan.

Along the same lines, I've got the gray Speck Candyshell on mine and love it. I haven't dropped it (yet...but I will) and I'm confident it will protect it. FWIW, I've also got the ZAGG HD screen protector, so mine is well-protected.
I can't imagine people using a phone like this without some sort of case. Everyone knows how the shiny back of the Candyshell scratches, but I couldn't care less about that. I look at it like this...the scratches I see on the case would be on the back cover of the phone if it wasn't on there. Better for the case to take the damage than the phone.

I have no idea how it happened. I am very careful about putting it in empty pockets, laying it face-up, etc.

A small speck of sand in your pocket is sufficient to cause a scratch, depending on how it rubs the screen.
The candy shell designs are very good tbh. I had the Speck single-piece, in black, on my Galaxy Note and it felt great. It had the lifted lip edge for the screen and a mixture between hard plastic and TPU/silicon. It cost me $45 for that case not $5 for a silicone case like those guys that cracked their phones.

I guess he wont come back with pictures
I love how everyone assumes I'm trolling and consistently comments about cases without reading.
Cases are used. Phones are cracked. Mine was not dropped.
Here's one pic from my cracked back. To all of you who assume your $50 case will save you... Good luck.
Hello, I stopped on the following cases- Sony Style Cover SCR26 and Bugatti BookCover Oslo , and who do you think is better.
Devilcase is the best, but it's pricy

Agree with this, they are quality. I've got a champagne gold devilcase on my black Z3c and it looks great Well worth the money it compliments it superbly. The finish is great on them and the buttons are perfect.
Before I get my Z3c wet, for taking pictures near or underwater, do I need to remove the case (devilcase) first? I am worried that if I don't, water will be trapped between the bumper and my phone, not able to dry out and leave moisture behind.

You could do that. I did the same, but that was just with the Ringke Fusion, I don't like that/when the moisture stays behind.
You could always remove the DevilCase after you went for a dive, just to check if something stayed behind, then you'll also know for the future.
