Hi,
I'm currently using the Xnote Zero Edition 4.1.2 and I want to enable Pie controls. There is a menu item in the settings, however, nothing happens when I activate TouchInput. In some other threads I read that you have to use the extended desktop mode. What does this mean and how do I activate it?

Idont know what it is, but i saw an option called "active pim control" somewhere in wifi menu.
You have to first assign control buttons. .say position 1 for menu. .2 for home etc

Hi,
I already assigned items to the Pie menu (Home, Back etc.), but it still won't show up. I activated TouchService in the settings and the gesture input device is set to HTC Evo3D/Sensation/Amaze/HOZ, Motorola RAZR/DROID, Acer Iconia, Samsung GT8.9. There is no option for a Galaxy Note 8.
Just to be sure: if it's working, I should be able to activate it by sliding my finger from the right border onto the touch screen, right?
Right or left depending on your setting preference...

I'm using the default (right handed). It prints out "LMT: TouchService started", so it should work. But when I slide my finger from the right bezel onto the screen (on the home screen) the screen it just changes the home screen to the next screen.
Does it work for you? If yes, what ROM are you using?
I had an issue with lmt suddenly not working 20 days back. ..download the latest version from xda and reset the settings

I've downloaded and installed the newest version (1.912), but it still does not work...I just can't get the pie menu to show up.
What ROM are you using?
On stock rooted. . Use it more on my note 2 with omega rom

that's the multi Window feature of this beast. Hold the back touch button for a second, the tab will disappear. If it's there, you can open 2 apps at the same time in a split screen fashion. Try it out. Works like a charm.

What happens when the 1/2 moon won't dissapear no matter how long you hold the "back" button? Shall you call me a noob or average joe? Maybe just answering an honest question should be enough to swell your head a touch eh?
Replying to a dead 10 month old thread just to mock someone doesn't make you look any more intelligent then the one you were replying to.
If you are having troubles disabling the multi-window feature open Settings> Display> take the check out of Multi-window.

Fallenkirmit, well even though the post might be a bit old it get's veiwed by many who Google their issues. My 6yr. old boy was telling me how rude it was for him to act that way towards the OP, so I thought about the time frame and yet thought of all those other people that may not ask a question because of reading his responce or those that might or do respond now on Forum's. Thank
you for your kind responce. Just looked and I don't have Multi-Window listed under Device catagory then selecting Display.
If you want to completely disable it, it should be in system settings / display / multi-window feature, uncheck. If its not there then perhaps its not Multi-Window your having issues with. Are you on a TouchWhiz based ROM?

Hi All,
I'm a long time member of xda-devs since the original xda phone back in the early 00's. I had a second gen galaxy tab but ditched it for an ipad 3 as it wasn't quite the experience I was after. Now I've ditched the lead weight that is the ipad and am absolutely loving the Note.
I have a few questions...
1. Are there any gestures (e.g. multi finger swipes) that can be used to cycle through the open apps, or am I limited to a long press on the home button then a tap?
2. Are there any other gestures that are possible to streamline use?
3. When typing a number or symbol, is there any way of configuring it to go back to the letter keys once the number/symbol has been typed, rather than having to tap the ABC button?
4. Is there any way of displaying the email or gmail widgets on the lock screen?
I'm sure there'll be more questions as I explore further.
Thanks for any guidance.

Very happy that you made the switch, but given that the note 8 is new just be patient. If I were you I would install an AOSP rom and install nova which supports a ton of gestures. Spend some time playing with mods and you will find that you can customize your Os to your liking. Something that is very difficult to do with even a jailbroken iPad. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your investment.

1. GMD GestureControl works pretty good for multi finger swipes, just not as good as iPad. There is a lite version on playstore. You can give it a tr there but for me I'm using LMT launcher which is also good too, can find it here or just google it.
2. I'm not sure.
3. I think you need to tap ABC button for that.
4. There will be on 4.2 but for now you may need to try aosp or cm10.1 for that which is not available for our note yet? Or maybe not stable yet.
Check Nova launcher for 1 and 2. For example, I use a double tap on the screen to open up recent apps. There is also some built in spen gestures under settings, spen, and Samsung gestures under settings, motion. The spen settings allow youto add your own spen gestures too.
3. In the built in Samsung keyboard you have access to numbers and letters simultaneously, can use swipe instead of tap, or write letters with the spen that are converted to text. In other keyboards, long pressing a letter on the top row usually equals a number, so you can avoid going back and forth the number and letter sets.
4. This is possible with Daydream add ons but we'd have to wait for Samsung to update the Note 8 to the current Android OS, 4.2.2, then install Daydream widget clock plus. Maybe there are other apps that can be used in the meantime or launchers with that feature. (I turned off lock screen on my device, I find it annoying, I would rather open the cover and be in the app where I left off immediately. )

I was just like you with an ipad 3 and this was the first thing I was after as well. I found gmd gesture control and I'm so very grateful. Just be careful because one of those apps (pen control or gesture control not sure which one since I have both) have issues when I use my spen and lay my hand on the screen. I blacklisted handwriting apps but when I use the pop-up note I can't blacklist anything since it hovers on the home screen.

I recently installed CM10.2 but I noticed the status bar can't be slided down like in the stock touchwiz rom, which I found very useful so you can check your battery and clock. Is there any way to activate this in CM??

Hello,
I have also installed the CM10.2 on my i9195. I do not encounter the same behavior.
When I slide done the bar, it work.... the behavior you might expect is:
- when you use ONE finger from the center of the top bar and you slide down, you are displayed the open notifications (you can swith to shortcut button [WIFI, Flight Mode, Sounds, Tethering (dis)activation buttons] clicking on the upper-right button).
- when you use ONE finger from the upper tight corner of the top bar and you slide down, you are displayed the shortcut buttons (you can swith to open notifications clicking on the upper-right button).
- when you use TWO fingers from the top bar, you directly go to the Shortcut buttons.
This will not help you solving your problem (sorry) but this can explain the new (misleading) behavior.
Best regards
Alex
Thanks I noticed that, but I mean when you are playing a game for example (which uses full screen) in stock ROM you could slide status bar down, but in CM you can't. So you have to press home to check. I don't know if I explain myself.

CM11 has this function.
Carbon ROM (CM 10.2) too, but it is currently not maintained.
On earlier Android versions I used this app.

My buddy has an LG G2 which has this feature that allows you to double tap on the screen to wake up the device. Is this possible on the note 3 either innately or with the help of an app?
Sorry to revive this thread, but i have the same question
You can get this on a rooted note 3. Some custom kernels and roms offer this functionality.

Someone should just make it a flashable zip and include the kernel needed or explain what kernel is needed before flashing. I too would be interested in a double tap to wake/sleep

I had the G2 for only a week and I still find myself double taping the note 3 sceen to wake it. +1 on this mod.
I want this feature too.
Needs to be implemented on the kernel side of things....why not just "tap" your home button?
gonna search a rom with this feature, please tell me if you are using one

It's not just about waking the phone but the double tap to sleep is why I'd like it mostly. Plus less wear and tear on the physical home button
I' used to home button also but double tap to sleep would be a great feature too

Are you guys forgetting about the Quick Glance feature on the phone? Or is it just hated in general. Does not put any wear and tear on the physical home button, but also wont add to the finger print mess already on the screen. Only drawback is that it does not work if the phone is not on a flat surface (which i think is the case for the double tap feature on the LG G2, i could be wrong though).
I activate this more on accident than doing in intentionally when i try to reach over my phone.
To enable (disable) and customize Quick Glance on Note 3, do as follows:
1. Open Settings and go to Controls
2. Under Motion Control, make sure Air Gesture is enabled, and then tap on Air Gesture
3. Tap on Quick Glance and use the sliding button on the top right to enable (or disable) it
4. To customize the information you want to see, you can check or uncheck the following information: Notification icons, Missed calls, Unread messages, Battery power and Current music info (Time & Date are always shown)
5. To use Quick Glance feature, put your device on a flat surface facing upwards, and when the screen is off, move you hand above the sensor Locate on the top right

Lol quick glance doesn't wake your phone. It's not the same thing we're taking about. And the lg g2 you can double tap to wake/sleep with the phone at any angle
I disabled quick glance, I dont use it at all.

I am also searching for this solution. Please help me.
I don't have any mods or ROM's or not even rooted or unlocked but since day 1 I have not had my screen rotation lock icon or cant find it AT ALL in settings on my Samsung Galaxy 6 Edge. All previous Android phones I have had there has been no problem locating this setting. It is usually just in the swipe-down from top settings menu.
Please see attached picture. I found this picture on the web. My phone does not have that icon at all and cant even find it anywhere in settings to turn it on.
My goal is to have this icon or find the setting so I can LOCK my auto-screen rotation when I want to such as when I am in the grocery store using my Google Keep to check off my grocery list. It becomes a major issue.
If my phone is just buggin out and for whatever reason doesn't have it in its OS install for whatever reason is there a third party app for screen orientation lock?
Thanks!

I wish it was that easy. That is no a screen shot of my phone. I am attaching pictures of my phone now.
OK when you have your phone on the home screen you remember how you would swipe down the top and you would get some icons look for the one that says portraits and you should see it has a little lock on it touch that button and your auto rotate should appear hopefully this helps it did on my galaxys7 lmk if it did
