A buddy of mine trashed his SGS3 and got it stuck in a boot loop.
He was also handicapped by being on a MAC
As he was able to get into both download mode and recovery, (CWM 5.5.0.x) I assured him he could recover his phone..
Got him to dl loaded the following ROM, and got it copied to his external SD card:
[ROM] Deodexed + Completely debloated T999UVLEM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752327
Click to collapse
Then booted into recovery, did a factory reset, installed the ROM, (twice) then did a fix permissions
His SGS3 will now boot up to the desktop, and shows the phone signal
The remaining issue is he does not have data working, and there also seems to be an issue with the "home" button.
If this was my Sprint SGS3, I would be thinking there is a SW issue with the modem drivers or some such, but I am unsure how to check/verify this on the t-mobile version, and was looking for tips on what to load, and/or what to check to resolve the lack of data signal on his SGS3.
Phone info:
Samsung SGS3 - SGH-T999
carrier: t-mobile
baseband version: T999UVLH2
Any tips?

Does he still have his IMEI? Might either need to inject the IMEI back in, or if it's still intact, you might just want to try and Odin back to stock and start from scratch.

This is my preference, but as he has a MAC, thats doesn't seem to be an option
Does he still have it? easiest way to check is *#06# on dialer
Also is there a possibility it might be blacklisted ?

I recently reverted back to stock recovery using the toolkit coming from CWM. I tried updating PRL or profile and I get the following error.
The PRL update could not be completed
...
Error: Connection Error (6500)
I used Triangle Away to see if that had something to do with it but no luck. Any suggestions?

I think its a sprint issue. A lot of times when I flash a new ROM it will do that before data has a solid connection you can try the sprint diagnostics app. All credits go to big rush dog and team eos. I'll post a link for you as soon as I upload it to my drop box. Please visit the team eos thread in the spring gnex forums and thank big rush dog.
Edit: here's your link. Just flash it in recovery, and it will install the app.

I have the same problem as well...Nuthin wrong with the phone at all...When I reboot I just cancel out and let it reboot...I can update the PRL tho just not Profile...I read that not being to update profile would have an effect on LTE...But we just got LTE where Im at and Im smokin in the mid to high 20's Mbps...so I can see that not updating the Profile had no effect at all...Im doin the new JB Domination Rom 10.2 today...And Im gonna Reodin today just for the Hell of it and do a clean Wipe for the new Rom and see what happens... Ill try to update Profile while at stock before Root and see what happens...But the way Ive been runnin now it dosen't phase me at all...So if it goes back to the way it was...Its really no problem...And like somebody said it could be on Sprints end as well...But theres no way I would return the Phone to the store...

It was sprint. I was able to update PRL this morning. I had restored my TWRP backup after using odin so my rom/data was not the culprit.

I haven't messed with Metro since last year when I set up my wife with my a Sprint S2 on Caulkins ROM. I recall having to mess with setting manual APN settings to get data to work.
Is that still the case with these newer roms?

Not really, APN settings these days are usually in regards to getting MMS to work. I do recall losing my Metro flash while flashing ROM's around on my Droid 2 back in the day. Not sure if there's any situation in which the Metro flash could possibly be wiped with the Epic 4g Touch but that might be a thought to keep in mind. Good luck!
This is to fix Mms message on metropcs flashed sprint galaxy s iii your phone most already be flashed to metropcs with working internet Flash the zip in recovery and reboot, mms messages should work from first boot. This will last thru a factory reset.
Edit: I was ask to add some detsils as to wat the zips doing and wat I do. I edit the mms-config.xml in the stock Mms.apk/SecMms.apk to settings from verizon which work for metropcs, I also use an apns-conf.xml that I edited for metropcs. the zip will mount data and mount system, it will delete Mms.apk/SecMms.apk and Mms.odex/SecMms.odex, it will delete dalvik-cache for Mms.apk/SecMms.apk, it will delete the telephony.db file in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/ which countains apns. it will replace Mms.apk/SecMms.apk with the one I edited for metropcs it also replaces the apns-conf.xml in /system/etc/ which countains the default apns for the one I edited for metropcs (on first boot the phone will create a new telephony.db with the default apns countained in this apns-conf.xml, that is why this fix lasts thru a datawipe/factory reset). The zip will also delete devicemanager.apk/sprintdevicemanager.apk/sprintdm.apk to remove the activation prompt every boot. For more details take a look at the updater-script.
I am not responseable for anything that happens

how did you make the backup of your IMEI in the beginning?
You need to use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
But you have to flash to the stock rom again to do it ... it won't work from CM. Search the forum for the stock rom .zip and use odin to flash it .. you should be able to get the imei injected once you're back on the stock rom.

That got it to work for a little bit, but now I'm back on the EDGE Network. I think the problem now is that the serial number displayed in settings is "00000000000" But it was there before I tried the method you mentioned.
