I have got this weird problem with my Qtek 9090, I can’t hear a thing from the speaker except incoming calls??? And there’s no sound when I pick up and no one hear me on the other side unless I use the headset or the Bluetooth headset, everything works great then even playing music !??
I tried with few other rom, but no success! I even tried with WM5
Could this have anything with the headset plug? Cuse when the headset is plugged (in normal case) you can only hear incoming calls from the phone!
Remove your bluetooth profile(s), and do a soft reset.
I have the same problem after I used bluetooth.

What has flashing with a new rom have to do with removing your bluetooth profile?

dude, thanks for trying to help, but you should know better. flashing with a new rom erase everything including the the BT profile. I still think the problem is the headset jack.

This is telling me that you DID install the bluetooth again, and so you have a bluetooth profile, what is causing the no sound problem!
I have exactly the same problem as you.. When I remove the bluetooth profile all is working fine again.. that is.. untill I set it up again, and use it.. Than the SAME problem is back.
thank alot , but still got the problem even with the BT-profile removed, I have to use the wired headset to be able to hear anything
Problem Solved
I Opened the damn thing and took a look at the 2,5mm jack and guess what, it was broken ( I remember dropping the phone once for a week ago), I just removed it ( I don’t use the headset but I need the speaker), and everything is loud and clear now,
and with a Sprite Backup file I’m back now
!!!?
I have such problem, but I think it really barbarian means of solving problem.
Is there any cleaner way?

I read in another post somewhere that there is a microswitch in/near the headphone jack that switches off the sound to the speaker. Apparently, if it sticks, you poke a paper clip in and twiddle it about and you'll free it.
no sound form jasjar
having same problem. poked around with paperclip and all that, but still no sound. dont need headphone jack because hoping to use latest a2dp hack form latest rom for jasjar to be able to use BT headset. will removing headphone jack affect using BT headphones? need external sound.
I also have a similar problem - when in phone mode, other side can hear me but i cannot hear them, if i plug a headset with microphone the other side hear me and i also have sound from other side.
if i unplug the headset, i cannot hear the other side but the other side can hear me.
are there microswitches inside the headset plug for both microphone and speaker (two microswitches) ?
thanks, yol.
just got my jasjar back after having cracked lcd and headphone jack replaced. sent to http://www.pocketpctechs.com out of california as suggested by very helpful user on this site. cost me around $20 dollars and took only a day to fix. works fine now!
My O2 XDA IIs is behaving rater unusally. For a while I've had the problem that many people have reported where I can hear nothing during a call but the other person can hear me. This could be remedied by a soft reset. However now, no amount of resets seem to fix the problem.
The baffling thing is though that the speaker hardware would appear to be working as MediaPlayer still plays music out of it and the phone still rings etc. However no sound what so ever comes through the 2.5mm socket now, from either a call or from MediaPlayer.
What on earth can I do to fix it?

Guys, are your problem similar to mine? My problem is that the speaker is not working even though playing mp3. I thought it was radio problem, so flashing new rom also doesnt help. It is really the headphone jack cause the problem? When i flash to new rom, the speaker works, but after the auto config, the speaker doesnt even sound.
Please advise me on this. Thank in advance

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S III running on AOKP jb-mr2 4.3.1. As the title says, my phone can't play any sounds. This problem surfaced after I got home from a long day out. The only thing I can think of that would effect my phone's sound system would be the AUX cable that I connected my phone to my friend's car (my AUX cable has been known to play music unevenly, like playing music through one side of the car rather than both, but I've been able to work around that by messing with the position of the cable). The music played often with random spikes of static, but it was overall unnoticeable so I thought the static wasn't going to be a problem. Turned out to be a problem when I plugged in my headset - music would only play through the right of my headset and with static. My phone doesn't even play ringtones or notification sounds now. Was it possible that the AUX cable ruined my phone's sound? I want to know if there's a way I can fix it without having to clear all of my data and flashing again (if it's not a hardware problem - hopefully it isn't) because I depend on my phone as my alarm.
Also, I flashed Awesome Beats a while back, but it didn't work and kept crashing so I switched back to the stock musicfx. I'm pretty sure that Awesome Beats isn't what's causing problems with my sound because the problem appeared after the AUX cable incident, but I'm not an expert so maybe you guys can determine it for me.
Thanks in advance!
If your Volume levels are all up and yet there's no sound then reboot. If the problem still persists, wipe Dalvik + Cache.
If all that fails, suspect shorted Audio Jack and wipe completely and Odin Flash back to stock.

Thanks for the reply. Can I just wipe and flash the AOKP rom from recovery or do I have to specifically use Odin and specifically flash the stock rom?

If it is shorted, will flashing to stock fix it? I'm assuming no :[
Edit: I've heard that downgrading from 4.3.1 to 4.1, or a lower version, results in bricking, but I can't seem to find a stock 4.3.1 Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 rom...
I asked you to go to Back to Stock not to fix the problem, but to eliminate Rom and Kernel as potential suspects.
You will find Root66 of 4.3 in Root66 Thread or Docholiday's threads.

Ahh, okay. I have a question. Will I need to have wiped everything on my phone in CWM recovery before I flash the stock firmware using Odin?
No. Odin Flash does that for you. If you want to be double sure, then go ahead.

Thank you very much, that solved my problem of no sound, but now sound only plays through the right of headphones. I know it's not my headphones because I've tried different working ones with my phone to no avail. Plus, my headphones work fine with my laptop. Is there a fix, or is it a hardware problem?
I assume its the same MP3 that plays well on your laptop. In that case, I will say its hardware. Your 3.5 mm Audio jack is shorted. I had to get warranty replacement myself for that one.

Do you think buying one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SGH-T...&sr=1-1&keywords=T-MOBILE+SGH-T999+audio+jack
and replacing my broken audio jack with it would fix the problem? Plus, is it possible for an amateur like me to install this?
You could try. Doesn't seem too hard.
hey umm
You really need a news audio Jack
Weird thing started happening to my phone: when I plug in a pair of headphones (with or without mic) the phone does not detect that they are plugged in! Sound always comes out of the speakers. I've used apps like SoundAbout to force sound of the headset jack and it seems to do the trick. But as you know, this just spoofs the phone... it still thinks it's using the speakers so you'll lose mic capabilities.
The odd thing is that if I turn off my phone, plug in a pair of headphones, and then continue to turn my phone back on... once booted the phone will recognize that it has a pair of headphones plugged in and everything will be fine. Won't work when I unplug and try to replug. It only detects the headphones on boot.
1) Is there a solution to this?
2) Anyone know how the mechanics of this works? It seems like on boot it always tries to check if there are headphones... but something mechanical in the headphone jack triggers the check after boot (may mean I have a mechanical failure)?
3) Is there a way to force headphone mode, more so than what Soundabout does? It's a pain to lose the mic, I use it a lot.
Here are other pertinents:
- Running newest SkyDragon Lollipop GPE rom with Sense Firmware... don't think it's the rom because it worked just last week
- Only recently started happening, not sure what could have caused it
- Noticed the phone always tries to update HTC Service pack, I think I fixed that issue
- Have yet to try cleaning, need to get rubbing alcohol
Thanks for any help anyone can provide me.

I was experiencing the same problem and I know it is not the hardware since I was able to go back to 4.4.4. GPE and get music thru the headset like you. I tried to get an answer from other contributors but they think it is the jack. Anyway below is what I've wrote to get help.

Thank you for the feedback on personal data. (I appreciated it)
So I've did a factory reset and start flashing the "Stock Google Play Edition Rom LXR22C.H5" rom again.
Since I'm Rooted, this is the one I've flash: RUU-HTC_One_M8_GPE_5.0.1-3.11.1700.5_rooted
I've followed the instruction on #2031. Everything else work.... again only plugging in the headset into the jack, does switch music from speakers to headset.
As mentioned before I've upgrade my Stock AT&T HTC One (M8) to GPE 4.4.2 and automatically received all the updates OTA to get to 4.4.4 (Audio was working thru headset and/or speakers with no problems)
The only problem with 4.4.4 is that you don't have access to SD storage. (though I found a patch to update in the system, but haven't tried it)
I like the speed, simplicity of 5.0.1. That is why I keep on trying.
Also I tried changing the Kernel - using skydragon kernel (still same problem with audio). But when I used the kernel for 4.4.4 of GPE, the booting hung at HTC logo before it showed the dead android.
So I'm lost for option other than using an app to manual switch to headset from speaker....(bummer)
Anyway new ideas to proceed are appreciated.

Yeah that makes no sense why it would be hardware since you reverted back to 4.4.4 and it worked again.
The other reason why I don't think it's completely hardware is that, as I mentioned before, if you turn off the phone and then leave headphones plugged in while booting up the phone will recognize them. However, unplugging after boot will permanently lose headphone detection until you leave headphones plugged in during a fresh boot.
I'm thinking that either the software is not calling IsHeadphonePluggedIn (hypothetical) when the hardware is triggered (headphone plugged in), but always calls IsHeadphonePluggedIn when the phone boots. OR, the hardware trigger that tells the phone to call IsHeadphonePluggedIn is truly broken leaving cold boot the only method to detect headphones.
Maybe I'll try downgrading at some point but the weird thing is that I swore this was working without any major ROM updates... like just last week! For the time being, I'm using bluetooth.

Not sure if you've ever used Tasker but you should download that. They have a trigger for "headphone plugged in," and I'd be curious to see if it triggered when you plug in your headphones. You could just have it play a sound or something when it senses headphones. If that works, then it's whatever service handles that hardware interrupt, not the interrupt itself.

Yes, I have and use Tasker. In fact, I have a Profile for headphone or bluetooth headset detection. This is how I know the phone is definitively detecting my headphones on boot—the designated Tasker action triggers and I get the Profile highlighted as active.
When I unplug the headphones, Tasker responds accordingly and runs the exist task and the profile is no longer highlighted. When I try to replug, Tasker doesn't do anything. Headphones not detected.
Another tidbit I've discovered:
- Safe mode doesn't help with headphone detection. In fact, there is none even after cold boots. Tried safe mode to isolate any 3rd party apps that might be causing issues.
- To clarify about reboots. The phone needs to be shutdown completely and turned on while the headphones are plugged in to detect. Issuing a reboot via APM doesn't really work, I don't think.
Straaaange.

I'm checking in again to see if anyone solved the headphone detection issue with 5.0.1. As you mentioned about powering down the phone (and not reboot) does detect the headphone, but after you unplug the headphone it revert back to the speakers. No change when you reinsert the jack for the headphone. I've tried all custom roms that uses 5.0.1 and none works with the headphone. Right now I'm still running GPE 4.4.4 on my AT&T One M8. I really like the features of 5.0.1 but not interested in a dual approach to listen to music in my headphone. Let me know if anyone find a new technique that will work with our M8. (I don't think anyone have been able to get the AT&T version of M8 to work with the headphone on 5.0.1.....If I'm wrong please share......)

I did come across a solution, but it may be unique to me. It's entirely hardware related. Just inside the headphone jack, there is a small connector. I used a pin to pry it out slightly. After doing this, plugging headphones in works like normal. That outer most pin must be the trigger that tells the phone to check if there is a headphone connected.
However, as I mentioned, even without this pin being activated I can still get the phone to detect the headphone buy just cold starting the phone. It may be a difference in how 4.4.4 and 5.0.1 uses the hardware on the phone. I have no clue, it's annoying nonetheless.
So give that a shot!

Interesting.....Did you open your M8 to pry the pin? I tried looking inside the jack but can't see any pin. Plus I looked at the disassembly video on you-tude for the M8 and said, no way (smile). So I'm willing to try but I can't see the pin you're talking about. Is there a diagram you can point me too? Or provide more information. Very much appreciated...

Haha no way I'd open the phone. If you look into the headphone jack with the screen facing up, the pin should be near the 1'o'clock position. It's hard to see so use a flashlight or something. It's very close to the opening, 2-3mm deep only.
Maybe you need to change the whole headphone jack. There's a DIY video on youtube for it. Just give it a try if there isn't any other solution.

Well I've reinstalled 5.0.1 and tried digging into the jack, trying to move the 1pm pin just a few centimeters....well I finally gave up. I was not able to make it work and I got concerned that I would damage the jack, which will cost me a fortune in repair bills. (smile)
Thank you for recommendation....I guess I will use the soundabout app until AT&T release the one for our M8.

Can you explain in more detail when you say "wipe the data".....Are you referring, go into recovery and do a data wipe? or go into an app (which app) and clear the cache or something?
If you can give me the step by step procedures I would appreciate it.
Also did you try this on a "AT&T HTC One M8" versus a HTC One M8? because I'm beginning to notice that there is a very slight difference between the two.
Thanks,

Geee.......I've been using these Klipsch headphones for all my mobile phones and it has been working on 4.2 to 4.4.4. Once I've upgraded the rom to 5.0.1 audio stop going through the klipsch headphone. Going back to 4.4.4 (lucky I made a Nand backup) it started working again. So I tried several different methods from several people and nothing worked.
Since I tried, what you said, resetting the phone....and of course it still didn't work with the Klipsch headphone.
dah....are you seeing the pattern. Finally the light came on and I decided at the last minute, before restoring 4.4.4 rom, was to find my old Bose headphones and try it.....Wow. It worked but I had to try plugging it in and out to see if it continued working.....AND...yes it continue to play music through the Bose headphone. (tried the Klipsch again and had the same old - not working)
The only difference between the Bose and the Klipsch is that the Klipsch has three rings on the jack. The third one is used to control the player....i.e. skip/stop/pause. The Bose has only two rings on the jack....(just music input)
For others that are experiencing the "No Music thru the headphones" when you install 5.0......check the jack for two vs three rings.

If you do want to use your klipsch headphones, however, you can just use a standard 3.5mm extension cord in the middle. I've used this trick in the past with an old Nokia and my htc earphones

Get your earphones replaced. You can try by using another earphones. It worked for me as I faced the same problem you are facing currently.
Any other changes to the phone (modded, new ROM, OTA update, or anything else?); or the headphones just stopped working with no significant changes to the phone?
If the latter, there are apps that will allow you to toggle on/off headphones. But if it still doesn't work, you may have a hardware defect (headphone jack has become loose from the motherboard, for instance).
If not modded, try factory reset, or RUU (if available for your CID).
If modded, try a different ROM.
Hello guys, from one month ago my headphone socket stop working, today i get a new one and change it by my self

I have upload a photo for the old socket
GT-N7100 Using Eclipse Rom V9
When you plug in headphones, does the phone recognize that headphones are plugged in? Tried different headphones?
Did a factory reset? Re-flashed a stock ROM?

Sounds like a hardware problem that needs to be fixed with a socket replacement.
