I plan on getting the AT&T version, and wanted to know if I should get the R800 or R800a. Does it matter which one I get, if I want to root it, and flash new ROM's to it?
Want to make sure I get the most compatible model for flashing new ROM's.
best one to get is r800i then r800a and lastly r800x which is cdma

Honestly, it's anyone's guess, but it's likely as long as you are able to unlock the bootloader.
how did you do it
i was on the idea that the bootloader of the r800a from rogers was not unlockable du to rogers decision to this day i dint manage to unlocked it and i flash a lot of phone like the nexus i cant put my xperia in fastboot mode
If and when the r800at firmware is made into a .ftf, it's very likely you will be able to use it on your r800a because they're both GSM. It's hard to know if all the stock apps will work correctly since some may have problematic DRM though
Well, it's available. I'm running the R800a 2.3.4 FW on my R800at so I'm pretty sure you can run the R800at FW on the R800a. The thing is, you will be giving up a lot of extra features (screenshot, tethering, etc).
i have the experia play r800x its rooted and unlocked how can i flash att software on this phone is their a way
No, the at &t version is gsm and you have a cdma phone.

Hi, i've recently bought a xperia play r800a unlocked, i had some android phones before so i want to know how to rOot this phone, and see if there's a custom room for this model, but i cant seem to find a specific guide or custom roms for my phone, it is locked? r800x rooms can be used for this model? is ther any guide for flashing this model?
Thanks
R800x is the CDMA play. You want to look for any gsm roms (r800a/at/i) such as dark forest. Is the bootloader unlocked? To find out the *#*#7378423#*#* in your dialed then go to service info -> configuration. If it says bootloader unclock yes then u can unlock it via the official sony method otherwise you have to pay someone on the forums (there's only a couple people that do it) to do the unlocking process. Once the bootloader is unlocked you have the ability to install kernels and other non stock based roms.
Tons of posts in the dev section and q&a just gotta search.
Thanks for your answer! i've checked and it says Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes, i have one more question, custom r800i rooms on my r800a may affect 3g/hspa connection? will only work with edge?
No they won't affect any 3g just have to put the apn settings in manually for your carrier

Sorry for being repetitive, but the r800i firmware does not change the 3g frequencies? in my country only works 850mhz and r800i works on 900, 2100...
I purchased an experia play r800at and it came already sim unlocked. I decided I wanted to go further so I use the paid method to have my bootloader unlocked as well. After all is said and done I install a custom rom and my phone does not recognize my sim card as if it's not even there. I tried a few different custom roms and they all did the same thing. When I go back to stock rom though I have no issues at all. I had also purchased a r800i white phone, but with my white phone I went through sony's way to unlock the bootloader instead of the unofficial way I used with my blue one. I now can do what ever I want with the r800i without any problems, but am still stuck with using the stock rom with my r800at. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this? The white phone is only a 2G phone so I gave it to someone else to use cause the blue one is 4G and I need that more. I would really like to install an ICS rom on my r800at so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them and try them out. Thanks:cyclops:
So you want to install a ICS official and you have the bootloader locked?
Yes you are sim unlocked. BUT you need to have your bootloader unlocked as well. They are both clearly 2 different things. In order for you to intall customs rom your bootloader needs to be unlocked not sim.
I just started using an AT&T branded G3 unlocked on Tmobile. I have no idea if I can flash Tmobile ROMs or if I need to stick with roms only built for AT&T? Someone please clear this up for me once and for all. Thanks!
I wouldn't flash anything thats not specifically made to work with your device. Tmobile g3 has an unblocked bootloader all other g3's are locked currently. Flash something thats not made for your specific device and you may have a paperweight.
