That is your NFC icon. Turn off NFC and it goes away.
Yeah NFC proved to be worthless for me. I couldn't get it to connect to my wife's s4. My brother-in-law could get his to work on his note 2 either.

Ugh. Thanks, I totally forgot that I turned it on.
I hate the logo but love to use NFC between my N7 2013 and my One. I wish HTC went all stock google and left the logo off when NFC was on.
Luckily it drains like zero battery keeping it on, so I just do...

Works fine for me. Do you have whatever you're trying to share (video, picture, etc.) open on one of the devices before touching them together?

From what I read online, I gathered that all you do is open the file>share>nfc. But the NFC option would never show up. Is there something I am missing?

I don't have to do any of that. Make sure NFC is enabled on both devices. Open the content you would like to send, in Gallery for example, touch phones together and transfer/"beam" begins.

Sounds good. Let us know. Like I said, you shouldn't have to tell it to "share." If you have media open that can be beamed, all you have to do is touch the phones together.
Also, FYI..

It works just like you said. However, the transfer would start, but not complete... do you gave to leave the phones touching? For some reason my brother-in-law's note 2 would try to pair Bluetooth, and his Bluetooth was turned off...

Hey guys,
My Evo was stolen a little bit ago. Homeless guy (who knew my dad, so I had no reason not to trust him) came into the house, and I'm sure that he stole it.
Is there anything I can do to find it?
I've heard about the family locator and whatnot, but I know you have to have activated it before the fact.
Please help!
Borrow a phone.
Find the guy.
Call your own phone number.
Listen.

If you have root, move the apk to the system/app folder (or /system/data, I can't remember right now)
if rooted just go to mobile defense site and download the system flashable zip. boot into recovery and flash. this will allow you to turn on gps remotely if it's off.
Im going to give this mobile defense a try. Unfortunately they have the beta closed right now so I had to go to the site to sign up for the waiting list. This sounds like an very useful app.
Sucks.. Mobile Defense you cannot get anymore
Where's my droid is a free app on the market which I use. If you misplace your phone somewhere and it is on silent all you have to do is text it from another phone with the phrase where's my droid and it will ring on the loudest setting until you find it.
If someone steals it all you have to do it text the phrase gps my droid and it will text you back the longitude and latitude coordinates and also a google maps link of where it is at. pretty cool app.

To clarify, navigate to the contact you want to transfer. Then put the two phones back to back. Then tap the screen on the source phone and it will transfer
Yeah, Android Beam requires that you have your web page/contact/Youtube video up in the foreground before you send it over. When you hear the chime after the two devices come together, touch and hold down on middle of your screen until the info gets sent. Often times a quick tap isn't quite enough, especially for web pages.

Recently bought some nfc tags and programmed one to launch Car Home when in my car dock. Works fine, but it repeats every 2 seconds while in the dock. Thanks Petro - I'll try out Retag and see if that fixes things. I'm curious what most people use though. I thought I had seen many people using Task Launcher in conjunction with tasker with no problems reported. I'd really like to utilize Tasker and NFC together.
Edit: Looks like Retag can tasker tasks. Hopefully that's the answer... testing now.

I checked out Retag and its not exactly what I'm looking for. It doesn't actually write data to the tags. I've sent Josh at Tagstand a debug log of my issue and he's hopefully taking a look at it. He said that is obviously not how it should work, with any NFC tags/app. Hopefully he's able to find something. I'll update if he finds a solution.

I can't recreate it. When we left it he thought it might be related to his launching several apps at once, but it stopped occurring. I can tell you that this isn't a normal thing and shouldn't occur. If anyone has this type of thing shoot me a debug log from scanning the tag and having this happen and we might be able to identify what's going on.

I think I've narrowed it down to only one type of NFC tag (http://www.tagstand.com/collections...go-type-2-nfc-sticker-ntag-square-35mm-x-35mm). Also, I do not need to have many apps running to repeat the issue...just launching the tag and keeping the phone within proximity will cause it to repeat over and over.
I did get a log.

Ok, so the tag is being lost and the system is re-dispatching the event when it restarts the polling loop and sees the tag again. The screen stays on the entire time? I can get a few of these tags and give them a shot. Does it happen with all of these tags? Those are just standard NTAG203 tags.
I'm not sure if I've tried more than one of that specific type of tag. I know it doesn't happen with other circular tags I received. I'm out of town for the weekend but when I get home Monday or Tuesday I'll try a couple more of the same tags. I'm interested to hear if you can repeat the issue though. Thanks for taking a look and helping

Resurrection of old thread
Bump
Any further news on this topic? I'm having the same problem using Samsung TecTiles with a SGS3 running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and NFC Task Launcher 4.2.3(198)
The tag is fixed on my car mount and the phone sits in contact with it. It can take anything from a few seconds to over an hour for the repeat read to happen. I have tried setting the 'Limit tag execution' parameter using both a time limit and a 'last tag read' limit and neither seems to make a difference.
I will get a log if there is no status update already available.
Thanks
Mark.

The issue that was being seen was a re-dispatching of tags (I believe due to rotation of the display). That shouldn't occur any longer. The current release isn't applying appropriate logic to the ignore tags settings, this will be fixed in 4.3. You should see that by Friday or early next week.
Would be great to see this fixed. Haven't really been able to use the tags with my car mount because of this.

^^^This would be the easiest option if you're familiar with opening devices.
If not, hopefully you've paired a bluetooth controller to your phone before. You could turn it on and use it to navigate through your phone and download an SMS backup app.
Worse case scenario, what MIGHT work is to buy a USB-OTG cable and hook up a controller to your device

Now if the phone had OTG support I'd say hook up a USB mouse and have at it but since it doesn't then you have no remote features which sucks in this case.

wait till it is installed or a couple minutes depending on connection speed.
then this from the web play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlost
again wait for the install to complete.
now send a txt or call your phone then goto http://www.androidlost.com/ and hopefully you'll see the congratulations screen on the pc.

Second weird thing - browser often redirect me to a advertising or span webs. For instance, I try to open youtube.com, it opens different web with advertisement.

Factory reset helped to solve "files.zip" autodownload problem, but phone is still laggy. It takes 3-5 seconds to turn on screen when I press power button in sleep mode. Applications become laggy. I will try to reflash 4.3 via KIES, if the problem remain, back to 4.1.2 will be optimal decision.
