HELP! I bricked my KFand can ONLY access fastboot - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

I can only access fastboot mode because neither recovery or system will boot. I tried using Neesher's toolkit to restore, but all I get is "device waiting" If someone could help a noob out, that would be great. Thank you so much!

You might not have the drivers installed for fastboot, if there's a device I think it will be called otter in the device manage with an exclamation, use the drivers in my signature to update the drivers for the otter device, also I don't know the toolkit you are referring to, but I would suggest using kindle fire first aid to restore the system partition.

THANK YOU! the kindle first aid kit looks pretty serious, so I will ask another noob question, is there a way to tell if my kindle fire is 1st gen or second gen by looking at the body? I read that the first gen had an ambient light sensor and the second gen didn't, and the lockscreen was closer to the bottom of the screen on the seond gen. My KF appears to not have an ambient light sensor and has a lower lockscreen slider, so is it safe to assume it is second gen?

What software version is it running?

I can't tell...

If you have fastboot access them type "fastboot -i ox1949 getvar product" once you have the drivers installed, that should tell the model u have.

It says invalid device id. I also don't know how to install the drivers you linked

Open the device manager, find the device should have a triangle next to it, might say otter idk, anyways right click it, hit update driver, and tell it to search the folder where u extracted my drivers to. On another note, if you are on windows 8 you will need to disable driver signature enforcement first.

It just keeps on saying it cannot find the drivers for my device, even when I point it to your folder.
It says otter2, so that is a second gen KF, right?

I originally had the drivers for it installed, but I uninstalled them to try out the new drivers and even with the device unplugged, it still won't work

So maybe the vid and pid isn't in my drivers, I always add on to them when this occurs, can you goto the device manger to that otter2 device, right click it, hit properties, goto the details tab, and choose hardware id's on the drop down menu, and post back wat is on there? I will make sure it is in my drivers and update the post on the forum so your model is included.

[Q] Force Close Loop -- android.process.acore

I am not sure I have the technical skills to be posting on this site but here goes...My Kindle Fire is stuck in a loop after the swipe uplock screen. The error screen pops up "Sorry, the ics 4.0 application launcher (process android.process.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I click "Force Close" and screen comes right back. I checked and I can USB to device and see files, and it is fully charged. A hard reset doesn't work. Can't get to Fire settings or any other screen. Amazon Customer Support was no help. This was caused by me installing ICS launcher and not knowing the risks. Any backdoor way to reset Fire? Thanks for any help.

Use adb to uninstall the package?
You can use kindle fire utility to reset the device. Seriously, before modding, you should always have a way to access recovery mode, so, install firefirefire and twrp

I have the same problem and i'm not sure what yall are talkin about ... Can someone explain PLEASEEEE! I root my phones all the time, so I figured this couldnt be that hard.... Guess I was wrong! I had it going fine until I downloaded ICS launcher
I used the Kindle Fire Utility (KFU) v.7 to root the KF using BurritoBoot (I think) and then installed TWRP on the KF. With TWRP running I selected the Wipe option, then Factory Reset, and this fixed the problem...I had the Kindle back to where it was when shipped from Amazon. Of course the KF needs to be attached to a PC to do all of this and you need to install a new device driver ("ABD..."). The driver is included in the KFU package.

download the KFU from above--
use the Extras option (6?)
push the ADW launcher (option 2)
even if it says successfully installed--let it keep going. when it finishes, unlock the screen--and it should ask you which launcher you want to run
select the Kindle Fire, set as default, and voila----fixed!

Thx I used the newest kindle fire Utility (I did not had an recovery System) So it worked perfect for me thx
If anyone else ever gets this problem theres an easier fix that doesn't involve installing anything. You touch the top pulldown screen when you take out the USB or put it in to your PC to mount it, and with trial and error you'll manage to get the settings screen. Go to applications, and uninstall the app giving you the problem.

This is My first post and im allittle nervous so......
My girlfriend was cheated out of some money when she bought a Fire Hd 8.9 from some girl. it turned out to be the Demo version.
I was able to remove the demo by going to the app store, it asked to set up wifi so i did that, loading file manager then going online downloading 1market app apk. they asked for permission to allow non market apk to be installed so i granted that.
then i went to amazon downloaded newest version of fire 8.9 placed it on update folder from my file manager.
then i downloaded adw launcher apk from 1market store.
This launcher allowed me to access device from settings and from there i updated my kindle fire. it removed the demo version and now running latest version and no demo.
I did all this after rooting the device but i see no way that this method wont work on non rooted devices.
Only difference is that there is no lock screen on the kindle. but besides that works great......
This answering questions thing is hard please dont ever make me do this again....

Nice job on a well laid out and helpful first post!
First off, however, you have a KFHD demo, which may or may not be the same as original KF demos.
In my case here, it is not the same, because it would not let me access the app store or internet, because it isn't available in my demo version. Just sayin'
I am not looking for anwers, just providing others with some more knowledge.

I have just purchased an 8.9 Demo unit which has not arrived yet.
I am not aware that the demo unit allow one to go to the web at all.
Thus, I am wondering how you were able to get the tablet to browse and download anything?
I would love to be able to turn my Demo unit into a working tablet but, it sure seems like without ADB debugging, this will not be possible.
Another question is how did you get the unit rooted as a demo unit?
Again, without ADB debugging on, how do you root?
I traveled to a store to look at a KDF 8.9 Demo unit.
The Demo tablet does have a web access ICON.
One Demo unit had access to wifi and the net but had parental controls on which prevented access to settings for non-market apps, etc.
The second DEMO unit did not allow access to the web and there was also no access to settings.
When a URL was typed into the address bar, the typical "error 404 , no access found message"
Either way, it did was not clear if a new or stock firmware could be loaded.
I hope someone can provide more detail on the specifics of removing or overriding the DEMO firmware.

Thanks for all the responses Here's a lot more information -
Kindle fire first gen 6.3.2
Used the kindle fire utility found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
Running windows 7
I first opened the drivers.bat file, then confirmed all the drivers were installed correctly by going on computer, properties, devices, and then checking the drivers. Then went on the utility's main .bat file and saw that it said that it was online and the boot thing said 4000. So then I went ahead and did number 2 for the root. And then I let it do its thing and everything seemed to go smoothly. It said it was finished and that it was now rooted, but it is not.
The kindle fire doesn't come with a usb so I bought one.
Something weird is that I thought it was rooted at first so I used the utility to install the google apps and now I can use google play and all the google apps, but still no root!
Another weird thing is that now it starts up with the same fast boot screen as it used when rooting. However, the device works fine.

Kindle drivers from the SDK
Just to follow up for anyone who wants to install the driver from the Android SDK, the OP from the thread I linked to earlier, posted the below on how to exactly get the Kindle driver showing in the SDK and then installing it:
Jordan011 said:
I received a message from a user saying that 10.3.1 was rooted with this method.
As for others with driver problems, a lot of users are using the drivers from the SDK, and it seems to be working, I didn't have any issues using Qemu's drivers so if they don't work try that method.
In the SDK click Tools up top>Manage add-on sites then click the 2nd tab "User defined sites"
Add http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml to the list, then go back to the main screen, scroll down to the folder "Extras" there should be a "Kindle fire usb driver" install that then it should automatically recognize the device the next time you hook up your kindle.
NOTE: Uninstall the drivers that you are currently using as they will interfere with these, (uninstall it from the device in device manager, then delete a folder in C:\program files\ called Amazon, then perform a fresh install with the sdk)
i had to spoof my drivers for my kfhd 7 which if anyone wants that information lemme know, I'll be happy to post how to do this.

I'll just add that after you download the driver from the SDK, its not automatically installed to the PC - its only installed in the SDK...The installation file "KindleDrivers.exe" needs to be run manually and is found in the following path: [C:\AndroidSDK\extras\amazon\kindle_fire_usb_driver]

Problems after twrp install

okay so i rooted my kindle successfully, had the superuser icon in apps (backed up my system) using cmd "dd etc.." code

it just stays stuck...
now upon restart i can access TWRP and i decided to push cm 10.1 to the kindle fire and install cm10.1 ( just so i can actually get past kindle fire blue logo)
installing cm10.1 was succesfull but now my pc wont identify my kindle...i hear the noise as though a new device was plugged in but when i check my devices and folders the kindle isnt connected or anywhere to be found... *would also like help with pc not recognizing kindle after twrp install*
so to sum it up
i want help retaining root + twrp and stock kindle interface...
and also how can i get my pc to recognize my kindle again?
please help :crying:
btw i was running version 8.4.6
OK the reason more than likely you can't view your device in cm is because windows is still using the kindle drivers for the MTP connection, so go into he device manager, find the amazon kindle, believe its under portable devices, and uninstall it, then scan for new devices, windows should find it and automatically install the right driver for use with cm. Also you can't use twrp with latest stock amazon, its detects the second bootloader/twrp, and refuses to boot. You have to use the last version that the freedomboot.img is , don't remember offhand but its in the filename. If you use that stock is with it, it should work fine.

Themes are usually in the Google play store... If u want a tablet ui on cm 10.1 flash the zip in my post on top of what you have and wipe dalvik cache and cache and reboot, but if it is cm 10.2 don't use my patch. That's the closest thing you will find to a theme around here I think, though I think i saw someone with a lot of wallpaper floating around somewhere...
Edit: I take that back don't use my tablet ui, forgot I was in the 8.9" section, its meant for 7" version though it may be compatible, but I don't have a 8.9" to test it on and it has a script that prevents it from flashing if its not a 7" model.
