It's my new signature through Tapatalk. Compared to people like Ichigo, Soupmagnet, and Thepooch, I am nothing. Also quite often much less of a help then I would like. But I pay attention and learn. I don't know about you, but I would rate people like you, @sharonbw, and possibly @Guitarman2010 about on par with me.

That's nice man! Yeah Ichigo sure has a lot of rep. I don't have a KF, but I do try and help out in device forums other than my own. Help out in the A2 forums, and now have started with this one. Already am helping out with development for a (as of yet) threadless Motorola Fire. XDA is awesome, and you learn a lot on the way, no?
Hope I'm not intruding by helping out here?

Can you tell us the steps that you took to root in detail?
What version is your KF? Is it 6.3?
What are you running on your computer?
Did you use the original cable that came with the KF?

Thanks for all the responses Here's a lot more information -
Kindle fire first gen 6.3.2
Used the kindle fire utility found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
Running windows 7
I first opened the drivers.bat file, then confirmed all the drivers were installed correctly by going on computer, properties, devices, and then checking the drivers. Then went on the utility's main .bat file and saw that it said that it was online and the boot thing said 4000. So then I went ahead and did number 2 for the root. And then I let it do its thing and everything seemed to go smoothly. It said it was finished and that it was now rooted, but it is not.
The kindle fire doesn't come with a usb so I bought one.
Something weird is that I thought it was rooted at first so I used the utility to install the google apps and now I can use google play and all the google apps, but still no root!
Another weird thing is that now it starts up with the same fast boot screen as it used when rooting. However, the device works fine.

Here's your problem. The 6.3.2 update disables root, and KFU 9.6 won't work. Try this one:

I am using both root checker (from google play) and es file explorer. I also tried to use a screenshot app which requires root and it didn't work either.

I tried a screenshot app and it said "device rooted will use superuser." Then it crashes and says "execute su failed permission denied."

Could it be that superuser didn't install? Idk, and I'm just grasping at straws here, but it seems like that might be the case.

I think its safe to say that I have searched all over the internet and this forum looking for the answer. How do I get to the Kindle Fire Market and factory setup while I am running a Jelly Bean ROM still. Basically I have Root access and the Project Jandycane ROM running perfectly fine and normal, but I want to know how I can install the factory Kindle Launcher to read books, get on the Amazon Video market and so on since I have a prime account and want to watch movies again. I know I need to run OTARootKeeper to use the video market but where is an APK or something similar to get back to all that and re-register as a "Kindle Fire" when I want to access these options?
Thanks for any help you may offer

As fas as I know, the only way to do this is to setup Dual Booting.
I have not done it yet, but I think there are some walk throughs for it.

Did you ever find out how to do this? I want to do it too but, after a lot of searching, have not found an answer other than dual booting but no dual booting 'how to' for the kf. I'm sure I saw a post in passing about someone switching between the stock launcher and another launcher but can't find the thread again. It may not have been on jelly bean but I thought it was. Frustrated I can't find it!!!

Can you tell me why the kindle launcher won't run? Is it a specific problem or have devs not been interested in it? If it's the latter, is it appropriate to ask a dev to consider working on it?
That is I use twa_priv's cm10. Would it be offensive to ask him to modify his ROM to run the stock apps? (Hope these aren't stupid questions. :8)

I just installed the Nexus 7 JRO03S ROM on a Nexus 7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913562) and reset everything to factory but the Amazon Kindle App v3.6.0.87 doesn't seems to play nice with me. I can open the apps without any problem but when I open a book, it briefly shows "loading" and then the program exit.
No problem opening PDF files with Amazon Kindle however. So I am not sure what is wrong. I tried other books and ALL shows the same issue.
Anybody having this issue?

Thanks guys. I made some adjustment to my posting and hopefully its clearer now. Basically, I flash the JRO03S ROM on the Nexus 7. It has worked fine for me. Might try uninstalling then reinstalling the app.

I agree with reinstalling the app, updates can do funky things. I'm still on the D build so I can't test it, but I can't see why a minor bug fixing/driver update build would break Kindle.
Thanks all. It doesn't work for me. I tried reinstalling the app, resetting the device to factory etc and all doesn't work. I am back to 03D now and its ok. I suspect its the problem with the the firmware that I download. Maybe the official one would be different than the one leaked on the internet

I had the same problem with a stock ROM that had been prerooted, so I went and downloaded the latest ROM from google and installed that and then rooted it myself - then I could run Amazon Kindle app.
Others who had installed the prerooted ROM said they couldnt run the Kindle app either.
Funny thing is, I am now on JRO03D (not rooted) and Amazon Kindle app will work.
Maybe I need to try to root the JRO03S and root it... Will try later

When some other users brought this up in the thread of this ROM the guy who made the ROM thought it may have been the way he put it together, he said he was going to investigate, but I went back to stock and so lost interest in that thread. I've tried looking for the thread but can't seem to find it, but it was on XDA in the Nexus 7 forum.

Edit: If your finding that the bootloader and twrp are missing best to keep trying to use kfu to send twrp and bootloader to the device. When you succeed flash a rom like modaco.
Oddly, my just did this yesterday. I left it alone all afternoon and discovered later that TWRP and root was gone. It's almost like Amazon resent the 6.3.1 OTA update. I was able to reroot using Kindle Fire Utility.
What system version does it say? Possibly Amazons attempt to hatch so ill effects on users of the first gen. Kindle fire. This is the first I have heard of any recent attempts to recover lost customers but I certainly would not put it past them to do such things. Users of rooted stock should be wary.

I have tried every method of rooting my Kindle Fire that I've come across, I have my Android Composite ADB Interface installed correctly, I have all my java installed correctly, I have the Android SDK files installed correctly, I have both qemu and runme.bat folders installed correctly, everything seems right, yet I'm still not able to root my device. As of right now, my problem is with the last step, its with the Qemu root. Qemu will take me all the way to step 3 then give an error and stop, this error is attached.
I'm not sure what to do from this point on, but I assume that I am missing a critical file. If anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated.

Honestly man it was a mega pain in the ass. I recommend doing bin4ry's root, then qemu's root, then SIDELOAD superuser. That last step made all the difference for me.

Already did that in one cmd, bin4ry worked fine so I progressed to the qemu root but I kept getting stuck at step 3. Not sure what to do now, and what do you mean by sideload superuser?
Using your computer, download the superuser apk, transfer it to your kindle's storage, find it via your file manager and install it.

You see...this is something I don't quite understand. We know the Bin4ry root method works for all 2nd Generation Kindle Fires. I've tested it and had it tested several times before adding it to the SoupKit. It works, 99.999% of the time
Sooooooo...
If the Binary method works for all Kindle Fires (it does) then why are people still trying to Qemu root on top of the Bin4ry root? Something about that just doesn't make sense to me.

I also "spent" hours trying to root, backup and install CM10 on my KF2 software version 10.2.3 and later updated to 10.2.6, before finally succeeding.
The information is in multiple threads on XDA.
After succeeding i was motivated in collecting and putting everything in one place ( i created a small blog on this specific subject):
someonelikesIT.wordpress.com
it has all the pointers towards every step described in XDA threads.
Hope it helps you achieve your goal.
It is not easy like next-next-next but not impossible (no IT background required but good understanding of english and some IT basic skills).
Good luck!
I can only access fastboot mode because neither recovery or system will boot. I tried using Neesher's toolkit to restore, but all I get is "device waiting" If someone could help a noob out, that would be great. Thank you so much!
You might not have the drivers installed for fastboot, if there's a device I think it will be called otter in the device manage with an exclamation, use the drivers in my signature to update the drivers for the otter device, also I don't know the toolkit you are referring to, but I would suggest using kindle fire first aid to restore the system partition.

THANK YOU! the kindle first aid kit looks pretty serious, so I will ask another noob question, is there a way to tell if my kindle fire is 1st gen or second gen by looking at the body? I read that the first gen had an ambient light sensor and the second gen didn't, and the lockscreen was closer to the bottom of the screen on the seond gen. My KF appears to not have an ambient light sensor and has a lower lockscreen slider, so is it safe to assume it is second gen?

Open the device manager, find the device should have a triangle next to it, might say otter idk, anyways right click it, hit update driver, and tell it to search the folder where u extracted my drivers to. On another note, if you are on windows 8 you will need to disable driver signature enforcement first.
