[Q] Note 2 i317/i317m Bootloader Locked or Unlocked - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

So I'm new to this xda forum thing and I just have a simple question regarding my note 2 sgh-i317m from rogers. I'm looking to root and flash the latest cyanogenmod to my phone but I've read that to root your phone you must have an unlocked bootloader. So I don't know if my note 2's bootloader is unlocked, whether its already unlocked by rogers when i received it or how to check if it is or isn't. I've looked around all over for an answer to my question and all I've found is a non legit article about how most Canadian note 2's are already unlocked. I don't want to go ahead with rooting my phone and having it brick because my bootloader is locked so I would appreciate the help! Thanks in advance!

For rooting purposes start HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33854391
For recovery I use TWRP HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33867032
Rom I'm running as my daily driver
Found HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36575063
For Rom's and info go to the ONE STOP SHOP thread! Think you should READ up on flashing Rom's, making back ups, modem's, just Android in general!!!
If you haven't done it before it's always the best policy to read as MUCH info as you can. Which in turn Wil save you in the END...

Return to Stock - Without USB?

Hi folks. First post here and a bit of a weird one, I’m hoping some of you with more experience in rooting etc can point me in the right direction. I’ve got a GSM Galaxy Nexus which I previously rooted to get updates as I was stuck with some horrible build that had to go through Samsung and my carrier to update.
Now my USB port is faulty and I want to get it serviced under warranty but I don’t want them blaming the root access and trying to squirm out of it. I’m actually running a stock ROM of ICS so I don't need to change that - but I still have CWM installed along with its custom recovery mode(?), Superuser and the bootloader is unlocked.
Can anybody give me some suggestions on how I could undo this, preferably limiting my use of USB or eschewing it all together? It’s so unstable I’m really afraid of bricking the device. I want to just make it look as stock as possible so things go smoothly with the service or replacement.
I found suggestions in some threads for using 'Mobile ODIN'. Can anyone tell me if this would help? Thanks!
I've read on here multiple times that they will repair it even if rooted...maybe someone can confirm.
I think there is a apps on the market called adb wireless... May be it can help you!

Just get a stock ROM zip and you can use glados app to lock the boot loader when rooted then flash the stock fw after wiping system the stock system will wipe the custom recovery on boot enjoy

I have watched about 4 videos from this site but they all say different things and many of them are unclear

I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
but I am unsure whether it supports my US bought s3
it also says its image is based off TMO T999UVDMD5 but i have the JZO54K. T999UVDMD5
just need some clarification whether it is ok for me to follow this guide or if I need another image or a diff guide
also to know if I need to take any extra steps
I want a simple root so I can run apps that otherwise I could not
I dont know much about rooting
also a guide on how to unroot would be great and Id be very grateful

T-Mobile Image
April 2013 - 4.1.2 JellyBean
Note: This is based off of the stock image TMO T999UVDMD5
Perm Mirror: Download - root66_TMO_T999UVDMD5.7z
Flash that one with Odin.
The best possible thing you can do before doing anything, is to read the sticky threads.
The beginning part of the build is never referred to, so you don't need to worry about it. Just go from where is has T999********.
Stay in this part of the forum. Flashing anything from anywhere but here could cause you problems or a brick.
The thread you linked is imo the best choice for rooting. There are several options, but I like root66 best.
Start with the stickies (yes including forum rules), then search for any questions you still have. I can almost guarantee 90% of any questions you come up with has been covered before.
ALWAYS read the entire OP of anything you want to flash!
Just to get you started though, use the root66 UVDMD5 firmware to root.
This is not the international forum. You are in the right place.
In my signature, you will find just about everything you need to get going.
Good luck and welcome!

Now that you're rooted, make a backup with whatever recovery you installed(TWRP or CWM).
This will be your backup incase you flash something and your device becomes unstable.

[Q] Best Unlock Method AT&T Note 2 (4.1.2)

First of I must say.....I am not that advanced in doing these types of things!
I have a AT&T Note 2 that is running 4.1.2 Android. I have read many threads about unlocking and most say I have to downgrade to Android version 4.1.1, is this true? If so does anyone have EASY instructions for doing this from a MAC?
Then I read in other threads where people say.....DO NOT downgrade back to 4.1.1 you are asking for problems. Instead have it rooted?
I am lost and just need a honest answer and help getting it done, before I leave the country and need it unlocked for use with international SIM cards.
Can anyone help walk me through this??
Thanks in Advance,
Greg
You only need to revert the modem to 4.1.1 (i.e. ucalj2 for att) then follow this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176719
You can then flash back to the modem you are currently running. Search the forum to find cwm flashables for both.
Depending on where you are at in your contact, you can also request an unlock code from your carrier.

Galaxy Note 2 Help please

Hello everyone!
I thought I bought a unlocked phone from Fry's electronics! but it ended up as a AT&T SGH-i317 Galaxy note 2
I tried to take it back but they said the only way it to buy an international phone??
what I got is a Galaxy note 2 SGH-i317 AT&T android version 4.1.2
can anyone tell me the very best way to root this phone and the best custom recovery app for this phone and also
is there a stable or should I say the best reliable rom to use for this phone
I can see all the post for all this for this phone but I wish to only do this once
and not like all the apps I did on my old htc evo 4g
Thanks for all the help and advice
Bill
Rooting
yes I have gone through and have read all the post I can about rooting this Samsung Galaxy note 2 SGH-i317
I see two ways of rooting
1 using the program Odin
2 ExynosAbuse-v1.40
3 then there is this one here http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...s/247891-t-guide-how-root-unroot-t-note2.html
I am sure there are other way I have seen on the web. But then we read about this knox thing about rooting
then ExynosAbuse says that way is the most secure way, safe from hackers
does this mean the other ways of rooting open your phone up for hackers to get in??
I am SORRY I can not write code I am not a computer or cell phone geek (brainy person in the computer world)
but I do not wish to brick, mess up my new phone!
So I am here to ask the question what is the best way to root and why
my aim is to get rid of the AT&T stuff I also would like to install a custom recovery / boot loader and a stable custom rom
on my Galaxy note 2! like I had with my old phone htc evo 4g
but from what I have read on the web it seem the Samsung phones have issues with rooting then the htc evo 4g did
so my I politely ask for help and information on this rooting of the Galaxy Note 2
to me so far number 3 from about seems good but then for safety I got to go number 2 from above??
HELP PLEASE
Bill
Root is done
well I rooted my phone as I have gotten no advice from here allot of peek-a-boos I see
I tried the Odin way but I kept getting a c++ error from both of my computers and the program had to be shut down?? oh well
then I tried the Skipsoft toolkit and that got it done
now is there any one out here that is a rom installing maniac?? Could you tell me please what rom out there that is fully functional and
stable like the stock rom on this Samsung galaxy not 2 SGH-i317 is!
my reason is to have a clean system on my phone with no AT&T gunk while I am on T mobile service
is there any help or advice for this or am I posting to dead air
Bill
Use CF auto root....found in the development section under the same name...
Verify that you are using root for the 4.1.2 firmware..and done...
Don't use those odd root methods or you'll have issues...
CF auto root is the root standard for this device...
Once rooted...you will want to flash a custom recovery and make a full nandroid backup of the device...(I use TWRP recovery...but you can use CWM as well without issue)
Both recoveries are also available in the development section in their respective threads ...
Store that backup on PC so you don't lose it to bad sd cards or deletion...
And do "NOT" upgrade your bootloader....or you'll never be able to go back to pure stock later if desired...
Read read read...and go slowly for comprehension...
Happy flashing....g

Sm-p605v twrp?

I've been searching, but haven't been able to find the information I need. I'm trying to find how to install TWRP on my Verizon SM-P605V but can't figure out the correct TWRP version (ending in 4.3 or 4.4) or even if it's possible. I've seen posts saying TWRP has been installed, despite locked bootloader, through Odin, but I haven't been able to get this to work. Each time I get a failure during the flash process. Any help would be appreciated!
You can't AFAIK, the VZW bootloader is locked and no Dev has taken the time to unlock it. No custom recoveries, no custom ROMs.

Ok. That's disheartening, but thank you. I'd seen conflicting info, but it was people just saying SM-P605 and not specifying whether or not it was Verizon. Hopefully someone can unlock it, because it'll probably take Sammy another 8 months to finish L for it!
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Yeah I have had it for a year. No one has even attempted. Sammy released a batch of tablets all at the same time and they've been fairly neglected. I've given up. You can root it but no recoveries.
