I've just purchased my OUYA and similar to my raspberry pi running raspbmc I get no sound over the HDMI out the box. With my raspberry pi I had to add hdmi_drive=2 to the config and then I got sound over HDMI. This I'm guessing is due to my tv requiring a specific mode being enabled or different HDMI driver, to be honest I'm not sure.
Does anyone know if there is a similar setting I can change somewhere on an OUYA box? I'm desperate to get things working and don't want to have to take the box back.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm sure this will also solve a number of the HDMI sound issues with OUYA dotted over the web.

I've still got the same problem. I do believe it's similar to what I experience on then Raspberry Pi.
I contacted ouya and they didn't come up with a fix either. If you find a fix before I do please let me know.

Its the HDMI
Im dealing with the same issue. Im running through an HDMI splitter now and it seems to be okay BUT previously I would have to pull and plug my HDMI like 5 times when Id boot the OUYA to get sound out. It seems to be fine lately.
Try different cable, different ports on the TV and boot the ouya and just pull and plug a few times live and see if it works.

Hey Guys,
I need your help. I currently have a carputer running Windows XP in my car now with an 8" touchscreen interface. It works and does what I want it to but I'm thinking I want a cleaner solution. At first, I was thinking about loading Android onto it but then I was thinking I could probably go one step further. My EVO does everything I currently have in the car (nav, music, video, etc) and it'd be awesome to use my EVO as the CPU if I could get it working with a bigger screen. Is there some kind of device on the market that acts as a remote display/screen that allows seamless touchscreen functionality? I'm talking about mirroring the display of the EVO. Like via bluetooth or HDMI out with USB interface for the touchscreen function?? That would work so much better because all I would have to do is mount the screen and run power to it. I could completely remove all of the computer hardware saving space and points of failure. It'd be best via bluetooth that way I wouldn't even have to take it out of my pocket. If there was a way to get it to work with the HDMI port for the video/audio feed and the micro-USB port for the touchscreen interface, I could just run a dock in the car and work it that way. If anybody knows of a device or a solution that would accomplish this, PLEASE let me know! If you think you have an easier/better idea, please feel free to share that as well! Thanks!
-Greg
I know there are several developers on the brink of completely unlocking the HMDI port functionality so I know it can be accomplished...but getting the touchscreen to be seamless I think would be the most challenging part...
Ok, so after changing some search terms, I was able to find something similar: Mimo USB Monitor. The entire monitor (power, video feed, and touchscreen interface) is though one USB connection. I came across this XDA thread that pretty much explains how it could possibly work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898418 Has anybody done any research on this or know anybody that has or is currently working on something like this??
Any ideas??
That wont work. The usb port does NOT do video out. Your only option for video out is the hdmi port, which as of right now, will only output video and pictures. As said above, there are dev's working on full hdmi output, but who knows when it will be available.

That monitor is a standard USB DisplayLink device. No special video out needs to be on the port, you just need a device capable of operating as a USB host with the correct drivers loaded (which are open source on normal Linux and thus should be portable to Android if someone was so inclined). Thus, any phone which could be used with a USB keyboard, mouse, thumbdrive, etc. can support that monitor.
That said, I've looked a few times and do not believe the Evo has USB-OTG support and it certainly does not have a standard host port, so we may be SOL there. N1 users can do it for sure, I'm pretty sure I've seen it used with an Ubuntu install, creating a kind of hacker's version of the Altrix around a year earlier.
Alternatively, it's not the fasted method, but there are a couple of software solutions that basically let you VNC to your EVO from the PC. androidscreencast is one (google that phrase, can't post links yet) but it seems as though it's stalled out. I think that Droid Commander (or something like that) also has a screen casting option. This way you don't have to worry about touch screen drivers etc.

I wonder how a cheap chinese tablet with a usb host would work.
I've considered just installed a cheapo tablet in my car then go out to rca's or a bluetooth transmitter. My line of thought on is most headunits/music is only stereo(2 channel), so you wouldn't lose anything there. The two big problems I forsee would be a reduction in the the output quality using 3.5 to rca and finding one with a fm radio thats worth a damn.
Well if you really wanted to go a tablet route. there is the smartq v5 you can pickup for around 250. it has full hdmi out usb host bluetooth and hardware video decoding (1080i hdmi video looks soo nice on a tv form it). You can download the android 2.2 firmware and run rocketplayer for allmost any video.
Good Morning,
I picked up a fire tv box yesterday and I am having trouble connecting it to my onkyo amp.
I plug it directly into my TV and it works fine, but when plugging it into my amp, all i get is a blue screen.
I tried altering the display from auto down to 1080p 50/60hz, but still nothing.
The box came pre loaded with xbmc, would it be something in there that is causing it ?
Has anyone else had this issue ? Any ideas on how i can get round it ?
Pete
I have just noticed that i put this in the wrong forum, please can a mod move it to the correct one. Thanks

I just noticed the part about xbmc being preloaded on your firetv? I'm guessing you bought this used?!? If so, that might be part of the problem.

I run mine thru an Onkyo and it works fine. I pass thru DTS via XBMC. Great. You should really ask this question on the Onkyo forums and provide way more information about your setup.

Not sure if there is some confusion but I was responding to the OP. I was asking him if he might have bought his AFTV used since it does not come with XBMC installed. And not to keep this going or anything, but I can guarantee if he asked his question in Onkyo forums their response would be for him to go to AFTV, XBMC, or possibly XDA (although I doubt it) forums for an answer.

Right the FireTV doesn't come with XBMC stock.
I have mine hooked up to an Onkyo NR414 (I believe) and it works fine. ALTHOUGH there were one or two HDMI cables that would give me a screen about HDCP, not sure if it was a blue screen. Try different HDMI cables.
Hi guys
Thanks for your help.... Spend this morning swapping hdmi cables round. Now it works a treat !!

excellent. Another thing to pay attention to is which box is powered up first. The order that seems to work best for me is TV, then amp, then FireTV.
Does anyone know if the Amazon fire TV stick has the OTG compatible hardware. I bought a Y OTG cable and it doesn't work . I was going to do a hardware root and see if I could get it working. But if doesn't even have the compatible hardware i'm not going to bother.
No one has been able to get anything working. I don't know whether it has the hardware or not, but I'm kind of doubting it, or it's not enabled at all in the OS.
I have looked at the PCB and it looks like only power is hooked up to the port the rest look grounded so there won't be any USB stuff for it

That is very sneaky of them. I don't understand why they are intentionally crippling their hardware...

thats why i said it looks like. i was going off the pics on gtv. i just looked again and the traces u can see are ground and a data line, pin 2 and pin 5. the fact they where able to get adb to work makes me think the rest are hooked up but u cant see them

any updates on using otg cables with the stick?
if the hardware is ready (data has to be wired, i think?), the host mode would be only software dependent?

It's possible, but it's also pointless.
Connecting to your Fire TV stick is possible without using the cable, just by using adb.
ie: adb connect 192.168.0.103 (ip address of your Fire Stick)

Then you didn't get the point. We are talking about using USB-OTG in this thread.
What should be pointless in thinking about that?!
I think everybody would like to connect a USB key to the AFTVS to watch some movies from that USB key :good:
Hi, i was able to get otg working.....now I'm using a USB wired keyboard and mouse connected to a USB hub.......and was able to use a ps3 controller connected by USB working with a app called liquidsky.....but I need help, does anyone know how to get a wired Xbox 360 controller working with fire stick.........it plugs in and gets power but the middle guide button just keeps blinking and its not recognized by liquidsky........any help would be appreciated.........
Confirmed.... OTG cable with flirc usb. I now can control my Amazon Firestick with my logitech harmony remote. Finally one remote!
OTG Issues
Firestick is detecting my 1 TB HD but ES Explorer showing only Lost.directory. Kodi also unable to detect video files.
HD is formatted in FAT 32 partition
It's pretty much known that aftv has lousy cec support. That's fine but I've almost pin pointed a handshake issue to cec on my bedroom aftv. It's hooked up to an old-ish 1080p tv. I can't find a cec option on the tv itself, like I can in the living room. Basically if the tv starts after aftv is powered on any video I play will have audio cut in & out. I reboot often.
So I'm wondering if I can just disable cec to resolve the issue?
There is one concern...I may some day buy a flirc dongle or new tv. So if I disable it I'd like to be able to reenable it if possible. As incredibly annoying as this bug is, I'd rather tolerate it than break it.
had an issue with the AFTV conflicting with my other cec devices so used this on the hdmi for the AFTV and its all sorted now

Thanks. I'll look into it more. I'm not 100% sure of what this does? Does it basically upgrade the signal?
That may not be the issue here because I've tried higher grade cables. Actually I remember awhile back having handshake issues with Google TV and an older TV set. Customer service actually suggested using a cheap cable ( think 1.0 or 1.1) but that didn't fix it. You've given me a potential fix to look into though. Thanks again.
its and adaptor that removes pin 13 from the HDMI cable making cec on that connection useless but helped with the conflicts i was getting
also if i was to disable the cec on my tv then i would not to be able to you my receiver and sky box so it was the best option for me
i also tried a good decent cable but had no luck with that either

Wow that is a nifty and inexpensive solution.. awesome!
In my searching I also ran upon this adapter - its a tiny bit cheaper and can optionally also be used to transmit IR over the HDMI CEC path

Hi my local cable company has a pretty sweet app and it works on a firestick with no issues. However, I upgraded to a Fire TV in hopes it would be faster. So far it is, However, my cable app is not working because it detects HDMI output. How or why it didn't on the firestick IDK but can anyone guide me on how to fix this or if I send you the APK is someone willing to look at it and fix it for me or guide me how to? I'm willing to learn I just can't seem to figure it out.
I suspect it has to do with the Fire TV HDMI CEC detection. I would suggest you try turning it off.

Thanks for the tip and I tried it out but it's app specific. Click to view channels and it says external display not supported. Which makes no sense to me since a firestick runs the same app without issue.
