Hello all,
Am i the only one that is having problems with the battery life on the galaxy gio?
I charged the phone today at 5 in the afternoon, by 8(3 hours after) 70% of battery, charged it with the wall charger and i rebooted it when the battery was full to close all tasks.
In 3 hours without any wifi, only 1 sms received, no calls and no other tasks was executed i lost 30%.
What can i do to improve the battery?
Are you experiencing any similar problems?

You can wipe battery stats, and turn things like gps wifi data autosync unused apps etc off, for some things you need root acces

What rom you have ?
I have problems with battery life too...but because i play games. Is weird because you didn't do nothing like browsing or play games and your battery was eaten.
Try a full wipe.
Also search the market for PowerTutor, it might be able to help finding what eats your battery, as what you describe this is not normal.
If you've rooted your phone you can calibrate your battery. There's an app for this in the market. It just wipes the battery stats file and creates a new one. I've head that it is good with every rom change to calibrate the battery Hope this helps! GL!
Actually it's good to flash every new ROM when you have fully charged battery. If you fail to do this you'll have to calibrate the battery and it might not be easy to do right the first time.
SO much easier to flash having full power
Battery stats wiping
IIRC google denied that battery stats wiping would actually increase the battery life: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
I assume, you have things like WiFi, BT or GPS turned off... Then you maybe might try another launcher. Samsung's TouchWiz is quite a power eater.

It won't increase battery life, true, but think - when you unplug the charger? When your phone says "100% charged", right? And if your battery starts are wrong the phone may say "I'm charged" when it's actually, say, 40% charged or whatever.
Wiping stats should also provide more accurate battery indicator when it gathers new stats after some usage.

In my experience the battery indicator may work a bit odd (e.g. it goes fast to 40% then stays there for ages). But it didn't keep the battery from charging to full, even when it indicated 100% it still kept charging. But to stay in the topic, clearing the stats might help the "dropping by 30% really fast" issue
Yup, that's what I was talking about - wiping stats won't improve battery life, but might fix indicator accuracy
It could be your background applications eat too much mobile data. Check out your background applications and disable them. Stick with 2G also it improves battery life a lot
if the phone and battery are ok, and you don't have Wifi/BT/3G/EDGE/max_screen_brightness/ or high CPU usage background apps, you should get something like in the attached picture:
AT least for me CM7.2 really improved battery life up to 2 (TWO) days!
Unfortunately CM9 ruined this again and brought it back for ~8h...

Oh ok..
Z means day, sounds logically.
In dutch we call it 'dag'
Thats kinda good battery life, but also without nearly using your phone

You can use CM 7.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381355
It is stable and saves battery better than stock rom.
Another thing to check is that Wifi is set to disable when the screen turns off or when plugged in... If not, you can loose 50% battery life in 6 hours. (Which i did once. NOT FUN.)
As well, apps that sync in the background. Ie, mail checking your inbox every hour for new mail; facebook, twitter, myspace checking for new notifications every hour; leaving apps using GPS running in the background like Navigation, My Tracks, etc. Those sorts of things can drain a battery really quickly, beacuse it has to wake up the phone, get the phone to get the required data over the cellular network then go back to sleep again, instead of just letting the phone sleep.
Another thing you can do is to make sure you kill apps. IE, don't use the home button to exit the app, use the back button. That will kill the app instead of leaving it running in the background.
Its kinda funny, this is all stuff people have mentioned already, but it seriously can be the difference between a half a day and a whole day on a battery...
My battery rapidly decreasing... i dont know why i only have few apps running in background like directory bind.... and seeder.. and i only play virtua tennis ( my battery was 60% that time ) then goes 15% around 10 mins and goes shut down... but now..my battery decrease rapidly and after i reboot my phone it says i have 15% battery life left but it dies very fast... just a moderate usage. like texting. and reading.. plz helppp.
when charging... its temperature is around 35 celcius and when playing games.. it goes 40-45 celcius
by the way. is charging phones via USB make battery bad?? and charging while using is bad ? and also. it very fast to charge. its like if you charge 40% . it will fully charge around 30 mins...
srry for my bad english. ask anything that you dont understand. thanks (( need help asap. thankss :angel:

What ROM are you using? Maybe the ROM who are using still has bugs that disabled CPU deep-sleep. Flash the custom ROM again or find another one to use.
Try calibrate your battery aganin

IIRC, i have read in XDA articles that some applications will interfere the phone going into the deepsleep mode and the "directory bind" was the one among of them.

Could be your battery is dying. Try to inspect the physical of your battery. If you see any bulging, it's your battery faulty.

Im not using any roms and i tried that battery calibration ( still charging my phone to 100% by the way. it says my battery is good but for me its worst. ). and cpu spy
By the way. im using battery HD. and also. i saw my statistics .. kinda unbelievable and also. it feels my battery bulky a little bit. it feels that itwont fit on my phone a little... maybe tomorrow i gonna upload a video on what im talking about my battery srry for my bad english.
and its the picture of statistics (( and i gonna upload a video later. ( still uploading )

btw sir. you forgot it almost 12 hours on your laptop ?
i've had to buy a spare battery from samsung,,,,
btw,, ya,, i forgot to unplug my phone,,,, the next morning,,,, i noticed that my wonder becomes heavier as well as a noticeable bump in its cover.....

Mate. Non-stop charging your battery doesn't kill your battery too much. It have extremely slight effect because smartphones can stop the charges from coming in when its full. Unless you charge it for like 2 straight days, then it might matter a bit. Or excessly game when you charge and the temperature goes up too high for too long.
And most importantly, The battery getting fat DOES NOT make the phone heavier.

Waaaaaaaa..
So. charging phones when temperature is high ( after a intense gaming with angry birds ) xD ).. discharge the phone until its last drop.....will cause battery to malfunction? Waaaa...i did those things at least almost 1 month. i was wrong all the time ..
BTW my battery gets fatter. what does it means? ( i notice when i pull out the battery and put it back again. coz it wont fit on my phone... by the way.
should i always charge my battery up to 99% so it wont have extremely slight effect ? and also. should i buy new battery ?? i hope there is some 2900 mah xD i saw one but it feels not durable...

mate,,, yep,, non -stop charging wont,, but if you charge your phone via usb from a laptop,,, try it for yourself, ,, coz usb charging prevents our phone from deep sleep state because its in debug mode + in usb mass storage mode,,,,
and in terms of the battery,,, why is it that my phone becomes lighter when i use a new battery,,,
or samsung has given me a local // unauthenticated battery,,,HMM
btw,,, my bloated battery happened when i forgot to unplug my phone beacuse im copying all my backed up apk +data to my phone,,,, then i felt selepy then i decided to take a nap,10pm,,when i woke up,, its already 6am ,,,magine that,,,,
as i can feel it,, my bloated battery seams to be a bit heavier compared to my newly- bought battery...

btw sir. does bloated battery.... makes battery life worst? i mean is. if you have bloated battery. you must buy a new one? and also. does usb charging is bad ?
yep,, at 100%,, after an hour or two,, it drastically drops to 50% even when not using,,, and when i use it,, after 5-10 min hard gaming,,, it went off,,,,
so i've had no choice but to buy a new one,,,
btw,,
not that sure though,, conventional chargers,, the one that comes with the phone,,, has a voltage limiter,, which means,, it limits the voltage that charges the battery,,, while usb chargers,,, they dont have them,,,,

You need to replace bloated battery if you want any improvement on battery life. No other means can restore it. USB charging is bad, read on some previous posts.

Hey there guys, fellow developers, I have a problem with my battery. To be honest I can't really tell if it is slowly dying or whatever.
I bought a used HOX and I am having weird battery behaviour. As you can see, I can get these stats over a day. (see attachment)
The battery percentage often jumps over time. When I'm multitasking/playing a game/surfing net, the battery often stay for example on 62% and after 5-10 minutes it immediately jumps down for example to 50% without showing proper battery percentage.
And vice versa... When I reboot phone with 30% it will reboot and then I'm noticing battery percentage jump but to the other side. (for example to 35%)
Today it jumped from 4% to 61% when rebooting. Lol?
By the way, charging is too slow and when I'm using the mobile at the same time it doesn't even charge up.
Sorry if this is solved somewhere else on forum, but I could not find that.
Thanks in advance guys. :fingers-crossed:

I am also expressing the same battery problem.... Does replacing the battery solves the problem because this will be again 1800mAH battery???
I kinda have the same problem. With "kinda", I mean the battery meter will sometimes drop down in 4% or 5% increments (ex. from 56% to 51% immediately).
Thinking of changing the battery too. If you did change yours, be sure to let us know if everything is back to normal.

Well I did not change it yet, but I am thinking of changing it tho. Will give it one more week or two to see if it gets better or some miracle happens. Hehe.
Anyways, I will update this thread when I will change the battery to let you know.

Okay, hope you fix your problem. Be sure to let us know.
As for the slow charging, if you're using a USB cable, you could try a custom kernel and enable "fast charge". The phone will charge with the same speed and voltage as an AC adapter. (It will disable access to your USB storage though until you untick "fast charge").
Even with fast charge I'm facing same problem like all they do ...
