Defective battery?

Battery consumption is going trough the roof lately..
Can someone tell me if it is normal to go from 56% to 28% in an hour of surfing and listening to music? (see screenshots) Screen brightness is 10% and just surfing, no downloading from the market etcetera..
I think it's unacceptable.. Took my phone from the charger 7:30 this morning, i charged it at work from 50 to 60% in the afternoon.
Current charge is 17%.
I already changed my ROM (clear cache, dalvik, storage) and radio but it doesn't seem to help at all...
I ordered a replacement battery for only 10 euro at ebay so i hope it will solve the issue..
Also, is there a known fix for the 90% charge on wakeup? It's rather annoying.

Yep thats 3G for you.. I've just been doing the same fir about 10 and already a 15% drop.. at least yiu can change the battery unlike the iPhone..

That's ridiculous.. Are you telling me it's normal to drop a percent per minute when actually using the device? (happened to me the other day)

Yeah I hear you. This phone has absolutely pathetic battery life. Even worse than an iPhone! Even using SetCPU to underclock it has little effect.
Just 10 minutes after unplugging it from the charger its at 94%. Another 10 minutes later its at 89.
Disturbing.

If you are sure you don't have an app running in the background, or a badly coded app draining your battery, I'd try THIS. I get around 48 hours of medium use on a full charge.
Calibrating the battery made a massive difference to me.

I forgot to mention that in fact i did calibrate my battery. Twice. Already 6% down in 10 minutes as we speak.

Im not trying to be rude but im assuming you have checked all your settings & applications for wakelock bugs and syncing related stuff?
You should roughly have ~1% per hour consumption when idling(screen off).
Try typing *#*#INFO#*#* and see battery history for any abnormalities, like way higher "running" % than "screen on" %. They should be pretty much equal.

Yes i checked all those things numerous times also no abnormalities in applications sucking up all the juice.
I think we can conclude the battery(consumption) just sucks monkey balls.

When your battery is fully charged go to phone and type the following. *#*#4636#*#* then tap battery information. It should say battery health good, and then Battery voltage. What doe that read?
I'd also try calibrating the battery again, following the instructions to the letter. If all else fails I'd try a factory reset and run it at stock for a while to test and ensure you don't have a rogue app.
One thing I'd say about your cheap replacement battery. They are never going to be nearly as good as an original, as they are mostly poorly made and deliberately wrongly labelled to make them look like they are high powered, and at worst can be dangerous. Just be careful with that one.

I checked using *#*#4636#*#* and nothing out of the ordinary to be honest.
When fully charged it's around 4100mV so that should be ok as well.
About the cheap battery, it's from E-cell in the UK and my previous purchases were of good quality. So will see if it's crap or not

Having the same issue as you. Bought my phone 5 days back and I calibrated the battery too. No sneaky app trying to drain the battery.
Will wait for couple of days and then as suggested will reset the phone to factory settings and then check.

[Q]Severe Battery Issue

I need to figure out exactly what's causing this battery drain. At 7PM my battery was at 100% after installing a new radio+kernel combo. I also calibrated my battery using a method I read in the Calkulin thread for his ROM. The method was as follows: After installing a new radio, rom or kernel charge the battery to 100% then physically take the battery out for 3 minutes. Boot into recovery then wipe the battery stats and dalvik cache 3 times each. Boot into Android then charge to 100%. Download a battery calibration tool use that and discharge. Anyway, I did all of this and was done by 7PM. After light use...listening to a few songs via google music...did a search using 3g...nothing too heavy. By 8:23 my battery was down to 76%. I thought this was pretty abnormal so I downloaded some extra battery tools and app watcher tools to see exactly was draining me so bad. Over the course of about 1:30 hours my battery dropped from 76% to 46%. I froze some non essential apps after checking up on them with watchdog (social hub, yahoo finance, tts service and accuweather). Decided to do a restart to see if that would help and my battery read 17%. I just noticed that it went up to 18% and it's holding steady but this is really weird...I honestly don't know what's going on and I could really use some assistance with this issue.
I forgot to post stats for the past few hours. Before I started the battery drain quest the Battery Monitor Widget said that the estimated was around -280mA. Over the course of a few hours it ranged from that to well over -600mA. After the restart it dropped to like -2mA but now it's back up in between the -400mA to -700mA range. It's slowly dropping as I type but there's no way that this is normal.

Sometimes when doing reboots messes up the battery reading. Its done that to me before. I have noticed that on ics when I flash a kernel and modem it takes me like a full day to get good battery. After I flash it my battery is pretty bad. Search for an appstore called bettery battery stats. Its on here at xda somewhere. Use that to see if your phone is sleeping properly or if an app is wakelocking your phone. Also it depends on who u ask but wiping battery stats does absoutley nothing for me. Its been said before that it doesn't work. Hope u get it straightened out.

thanks for the response. I've downloaded the battery stat app but I need to read up more on it to find out what the program is telling me. In your opinion what is good battery drain? I was on facebook for a second and it skyrocketed to high -600's but now it's down to about -90mA and dropping by just sitting in front of me.

Clearing battery stats does work to wipe any info the os has on the battery. Just check your battery graph in settings, boot to cwm, wipe battery stats, then look at that graph again.

I think he meant wiping does nothing to actually effect the life of the battery... Which, I agree. I've never seen any benefits when I've done it on my ET our my Moment.
Wiping just resets the OS's experience with the battery. Using your phone normally for 24 hours had the exact same effect.

things were looking up as far as battery life goes. i got rid of some programs that were hogging the cpu and i was almost to around 12 hours on a single charge with light use. however, i did a reboot at around 6pm and my battery read 45% before hand. after the reboot it read 10%. do you think it has something to do with the kernel? this is the second time a reboot has jacked up my battery.

I have been having the same problem and try lots of things but what I did not try and just found out is that my phone has a 1500mHa instead off a 1800mHa Sprint store made a mistake and placed the wrong battery inside my phone.
Maybe some of the problems you guys are having is due to that fact.
Besides opening the phone there are several app that will actually tell you which battery you have I.E. Battery Monitor

Is this normal, are you guys seeing similar results? What is your Launcher usage?
I am at 65% after 10 mins of screen usage and 3 hrs of standby.
For comparison, my phone lasted like 35 hrs yesterday/the day before, with ~2 hrs of screen usage.

your best bet is to use BetterBatteryStats and that will give you a more detailed explanation in what is draining your battery when screen is off. Launcher should not really eat that much battery it is normally the screen. so if i was you i would remove that app for one charge cycle and try bbs which you can get from a thread here on xda and found out from that what is eating your battery my friend

*#*#3424#*#* -> More -> Battery Test and if it's faulty ask for a return/exchange. I got around 87% +/- 1 after1 hour of the test.

I actually swapped my unit once already, the last one had drain issues as well. I wonder if it's something on my software end.
BetterBatteryStats couldn't find anything unusual on my last device, but I will try it on this guy as well.
Will try the battery test as well, thank you.

I have a ton of contacts (1k+) that got imported from my Gmail. I wonder if the device is trying to sync those, which causes some of the battery issues - since the included "Contacts" package is indicated in the screenshot I attached.
I turned off auto-sync for contacts, will see if that helps at all.

Get Slim ICS installed. I've tried almost every ROM out there for the HOX, and this is by far the best battery consumption I've ever had!

A new ROM is a solution, but was hoping I could get stock working fine first... :/
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to diagnose what could be causing that htc.com.launcher is taking so much battery? I'm up to 25% now.

Is it me or are people using Badass Battery experiencing bad results for battery?
Well let me tell you when I use it I get worse battery. It tells you what is using your battery, but when I decide to disable some of the things it picks up on. I get worse battery life. Also the app itself drains a lot of battery.
I am not an expert, but some the items disabled are integral to the system. And the system trys to enable these apps, but can't. It's like batteries playing hide and seek with the apps and running out of breath.
I got my ram usage down to 490 mb ish with all apps killed, but I had the worst battery life ever. It was draining fast even with the phone in sleep, and I had random apps I disabled starting (Flickr and PDF viewer).
My advice is trial and error. Use the task manager as apposed to these battery heavy apps, and if you find a place where you are getting awesome battery results, stop tinkering!
Edit: a bit enthusiastic in the Ram department.

There's a new battery monitor just come out for free on the play store called carat.
This app's meant to tell you which apps are using your battery and compares it to other phones.
It has to monitor your device for a week before it can give you the results but if it works properly it will be worth it.

have you found a solution? I have the same issue and don't know how to fix

I'm a new user of one x and the battery drain is appalling....i charged it full and was just playing around customizing the phone/settings and i could see it was draining one percent every one to two minutes!
I'm coming from sgs2 although it wasn't great but wasn't as bad as this!
Also, following my customisation etc i changed the sim card and all my customized settings such as wallpaper etc reset back to default!

I, for once was having the same problem..but after one week or two, the battery seems quite stable, and after I played among those beautiful ROMs, I can get the most out of my battery..thank God, I hope you will have the same experience..
Maybe if you wanna stay stock, start to analyze what 'culprit' that actually drained your battery..try using the search bar and use different search terms such as 'battery saving guide' bla bla bla..there are several thread have discussed the same issue..

I am on stock Rom and this is the first full charge after a factory reset although the phone is not brand new but a few months old...

Try disabling Location & Google Search (Settings -> Location). Noticed that Google services drained 65% of my battery, and heated up the phone. And it only happens when I turn on wifi and update the weather widget, which uses network location service. The drain won't stop until I restarted. Under the services, there's a network location service. So I tried disabling the said setting. Not sure if it will work for you, but it won't harm if you try.

Battery 40% sudden drops issue- please come to help

hey guys
I'm new to GNex (3 days user here )
my nexus has a serious battery drops when it reaches to 40% on every roms and kernel!!!
it is like this that when battery percentage is under 40% it drains super extremely fast even w/o any usage to nearly zero ( in about 20 min ) of course some times it even does not get to 20% and phone shutdown!!!!!
i also calibrate battery but no success .
( my battery usage above 40% is normal and i get nearly 3+ hours screen on with moderate usage but it sucks below 40%)
any help/suggestion/etc is welcome.

Do you have consistent network signal throughout the day? Just saying as 40% may have been reached by the time you get back home, for example.
Have you checked if your phone wakes up too often - triggered by some application?
(Further to above example, perhaps some location based applications starting up?)
A screenshot of battery usage would be nice.

no in every time, every where it is the same
i also monitor battery with better battery and there is no such culprit
as soon as my battery get to 40% period i'll take screen shots

When you say you "calibrate" your battery, what exactly do you mean? If it's wiping battery stats, that has nothing to do with anything even remotely related to battery charge or indication.
From the screenshot you posted, it looks as though your screen is constantly on. That's another tangent, though.
You'll need to try a factory reset, but be advised you'll lose your data. If that doesn't fix it, then you're likely looking at a bad battery.

But issue still present in all roms including cm10, minco, etc with all kernels

It really bears mentioning that there's no user calibration of the battery. Anyways, if this is happening regardless of rom, then you're looking at it being defective hardware. You'd want to first try a new battery. If it still exhibits the same symptoms, the problem would be the phone itself.

You could try and rest the phone (switch wifi off, screen off and keep phone unused), and see if the drop is still drastic after say 50%.
Tried the ZenSeries v8/9 too? I had good battery times with that, close to 4 hours screen time with 25% remaining.
Do check what month the battery was manufactured on, and if it's a recent manufacture month, it may be faulty.

I have the same problem too with my Yakju. I am using stock ROM updated to JB 4.2.1 manually. Battery drops dramatically from 40% when sitting idle.

Galaxy Nexus Horrible battery

hi guys,
sorry i'm noob and this is second time im posting on xda forum. I recently bought a Galaxy Nexus Made in korea by samsung. It's currently running on 4.3 latest update phone doesn't lagg or nothing happend like crashes etc but please see below major problems im facing.
Phone getting hotter from back side where camera is installed
0 to 100% it take 5-7 hours to charge ( I tried both wall and USB)
I charged the phone to 100% in night and i didn't use the phone night in morning when i check the phone the batter was at only 12% left. the phone eat all the battery in 7 hours the most battery was used by phone idle 57% and stand by 33% & i didn't put any sim card in the phone whole night and automatic wifi was on which was only 17% battery.
again i charged the phone to 100% close the automatic wifi and insert a sim card
The result is like
After 3 hours 57 mins battery was at 52%
Screen take 49% total screen on time 16m 1s
Phone Idle 22% 3h 41m 29s
cell stand by 10% 3h 54m 55s
Android system 5% (CPU TOTAL 1m 47s *** CPU foreground 33s *** Keep awake 1m 19s)
I don't know what was the battery time before 4.3 update becuz when i buy this set it came with 4.3 and i bought this 3 days ago. Is this a battery problem or the phone problem or its the android ???? any type of help is welcome

The Galaxy Nexus is known for its not so great battery. It also just depends on how you use it. If you are playing games, watching videos, etc. it will drain fast. If you just check a few things here and there, it will last longer. That's common sense. But yes, compared to other phones, the Galaxy Nexus sucks with battery. Theres not much you can really do software wise. The best thing you can do is get a bigger battery or a spare battery. I have a charger pretty much wherever I am so battery isnt an issue for me. But if you are someone who is on the move all day, I would suggest a spare or an extended battery.
EDIT: Actually, looking at your screen time, you are getting a bit above average on phone idle. Right now, my phone idle is at 8%

Yes i read that and i planned to get extended battery but the cell eating the battery while screen is off. I'm just confused about the OS 4.3 i read alot about that after updating to 4.3 nexus 7 user experiencing of slow charging and battery draining but as you seen in attached pic the phone eating battery without any usage the total on screen time is 6 min and in 3hrs 57 min 48% battery gone ?? so in your opinion what is the prob is it OS, phone or the battery ?

Well I see in your screenshots that it looks like you don't have any cell service. What could be happening is that your phone is constantly searching for a connection, which could eat up a lot of battery.

youre best bet if rooted and unlocked is to install a custon kernel and underclock it to about 1000 mhz ... install dark themed apps or theme chooser theme also us a black wallpaper .. turn off 4g . ... turn off nfc when not in use .. make sure youre using the oem charger to charge the battery .. use wifi whenever possible .. also turn off anything like hotword detection that is constantly listening

The mobile service was on but data service was disable i received 2 calls and some texts msgs 2 but they are not long or didn't took the battery. All syncs were off and location to. But the battery is going down very badly. Please see new attached files of last night. The cell was at 87% battery and in the morning the battery was dead.

Try using something like Better Battery Stats or GSAM and see what they say is draining your battery.
With the current info given, I would lean toward thinking it is a hardware issue. Perhaps your battery doesn't properly hold a charge anymore.

Few hours ago i left for office the cell was on 14% charging and turn-off the cell and put it in pocket. After 1 hour when i reach to office i was trying to turn on the cell but the battery was dead and then i put it on charging and it start from 6% and turned on. I think the battery is not holding charging . The battery is in made in Korea and have NFC details on it. I think its the original battery but its not use able any more. i will try above mentioned widgets before changing the battery.

Try updating the radios (I don't remember how to do it. U dial #something). Also, have gps and 4g turned off. Auto brightness turned on. If u have the Facebook app, get rid of it and just use the mobile site.

4g/3g are off and i ticked use only 2G network. Facebook app is deleted brightness is set to auto GPS every thing is off but mobile consuming battery without any usage.... im just confuse about that its the hardware prob or i have to flash some other rom?

U really need to get better battery stats. It will tell u specifically what wake locks r causing the problem. Idk if using only 2g is a good idea, u may be burning battery with apps constantly searching for a data connection. Can u access wifi? That takes up less battery than data (3g or 4g). U may want to buy a new battery, they aren't that expensive. U can get one on amazon for like $15. If that doesn't work, I'd try flashing a different rom, maybe even a custom kernel.
I am still running 4.1.2 because I like it better than the newer versions and my battery life isn't bad. I usually get close to 2.5hrs of screen on time. More than a day of standby. Obviously, if I make a lot of calls I will get less battery life. I'm running eclipse rom with leankernel.

Today i flashed Cyanogen mode 10.1.3. i didnt flashed any google apps just to check what eat battery. When i flashed the ROM the battery was at 36%. I used the mobile for almost 1 hour and on screen time was 54min 37sec and battery left 16%. The cell eat total 20% battery in 1 hour continues on without mobile data network and 2G was on. Wifi GPS every thing was off and brightness was set to auto. At 16% battery i stop using mobile and after 30 mins i check mobile it eat 6% battery in 30 min without any usage. then i truns off the phone and after 30 mins i tried to turn on the cell the battery was dead. then i plugged in the charger and i turn the cell on. The battery charge start from 10% but instead of charging i start loosing battery. then i charged for almost 1 hour on 0% battery and took 5 hours to fully charged. My cell phone drain all battery over night under the usage of phone idle 73%. I'm just confuse about that its the battery issue or its cell phone problem. and my phone getting very hot from back left side. I just need a good developer advise if this is hardware issue then i'm gonna replace the cell phone and if its the battery issue and hardware is ok then i will get a new battery and continue using and 1 more thing my phone get little hot even its turned off from back left side and sim jacket side.

I doubt a developer can answer that question. Could be phone, could be battery. I would try a, new battery just cuz it's cheaper than a new phone. Maybe go back to stock and see if that helps. If not, call Verizon and complain, they may send u a refurbished unit.

I flashed ICS 4.0.4 but the highest stat on battery graph is phone idle. The battery was 36% in night and after 3hr 1min the cell was dead. then i put the cell on charge and checked the stats. Phone idle was on top 43% , then screen 30%, cell standby 19%, android system 7%, media server 2%, Android os 2%.

Try going to 4.3 via fastboot. With the flash-all.bat that will wipe everything. That might solve it

ok i will try it currently i flashed the 4.1.2 and flashing a custom kernel for battery saving i will post result soon. and I'm also having slow charging issue like my cell charged to full in 5-6 hours.
