Which sense 4 ROM did you try?
I'm betting its one of those multi device Roms. You need to find the boot.img in a folder called "ACE"

Not really, I don't think. Apparently there is AAHK2 available, but I don't know much about it as I never needed it.
When I s-offed my desire HD I was htcdev unlocked already, I used the manual method to s-off which for me, wasn't hard with lots of previous experience with my HTC legend.
I don't consider myself a noob anymore (I am still learning though), but im not good enough to ever be a developer either, I'll leave that to the gifted elite.
I know there is quite a few guides in the dhd forums that are really good, I'd suggest you have a look yourself and decide appropriately according to your own knowledge and skill which is best for you.

first of all i´d advice you that tool, i really love it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180639
just make a goldcard, use downgrade, everything is being done by the tool while downgrading, after it root it, s-off, eng s-off additionally and install recovery. after that you should be able to flash a costumrom
I really couldn't understand what you really are facing and what help you want, however i can tell you the following:
-Make sure you have installed all HTC drivers as required
-Make sure you have installed latest HTC sync
-Make sure you have debugging mode enabled
-Read read read! Read another guide if you need to! Read comments because they have valuable info!
Good luck man!

Looking to root friends desire - unrevoked...

Hi, i've been looking around to help my friend with his new desire,
I would like to see if this works, according to my research...
If I ran the phone through unrevoked, would this root the phone?
And in turn, let us install rom manager + clockwork mod?
I don't have much experience around here as I am still looking about rooting my nexus
Hope you can help
Details needed.
Bootloader info, phone info...

I'm gonna have to ask about the bootloader info, but it is currently running stock (latest) which I think is 2.2?
EDIT: How do you get into the bootloader? Is it power+ volume down?
Yes.
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
If its running 2.2, chances are very high that you can root it with unrevoked. Make sure the hBOOT version is 0.93.xxxx

If its the same as mine, yes unrevoked will do. However, i was having issues with CwM before so now im using amon ra recovery.just a heads up

Ye, thats right, I just found out that it is 0.93
So my plan on my original post will work?
EDIT: Do we need S-off? And how does this affect the phone?

It will work. As long as the drivers required are properly installed. And you don't need s-off unless you are planning to change the boot partitions (eg. Change from Stock hBOOT to CM7r2 hBOOT to get more space for apps)
Sent from my HTC Original Desire using Tapatalk
If your still not 100% sure I don't think you should even try rooting your friends phone. You'll need the htc usb drivers installed on pc, make sure the htc sync apps is not installed.
Use unrevoked to root and install cwm recovery, from there you can install any of the great roms.

Please read the rooting faq in my signature. There's also a guide there which incorporates pre requisite information which (for some unknown reason) is missing from most other guides.
But read the faq too. It's not about blindly following steps. It's about understanding the process and what you are doing.

[Q] Anyone ever had problems with Revolutionary?

Hey-
I want to S-OFF my phone but I am a little cautious towards doing it, and want to see if anyone has ever had any problems?(Brick/bad flashes etc)
-Jack
I had no problems with my wildfire (when I had it) or my friends wildfire

No issues what so ever mate.
When I found this method it was a god send, worked first time on my first attempt at rooting.
I have since flashed RUU's and revolutionary sticks around so no need to re-do this method.
Message me if u want a full guide
No..everything works fine for me.
I didn't have any problems, just read the instructions though
(got my instructions from www.theunlockr.com)
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
nope ! never had problems. let the revolutionary do its thing and your next step is flashing the rom you want..
No problems whatsoever, just get the right drivers, and do what it tells you to do.

No but i remember having to run through unrevoked again after flashing an RUU. Possibly to add root/SU app again as i think the RUU i used removed the super user ninja app. But Revolutionary stayed on the HBOOT screen. And unrevoked took like 2 mins to complete
make sure ur RUU is version 2.1 or lower in order to use unrevoked tho
No, at the end it will ask you if you want to root your phone as well, not a big deal
I had... because I installed a 2.2.1 froyo rom, and due to that, i was unable to reinstall newers rom versions. It kept the S-OFF, but kind off "broken". The problem was solved, using this tutorial! hope it will help U.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
I just Rooted it yesterday and had no problems with S-off or root.
Used the guide in the wildfire android devolopment (i did it with froyo and hboot .002)

[Q] how increase the limited internal space for apps in HTC desire

Hi everyone,
I have got unlocked HTC desire which has very limited internal space for applications. what should i do to increase the space for apps? Can i simply get more space by rooting htc desire and installing custom ROMs? do i need anything else beside rooting for installation process of custom ROMS
Thanks in advance
are u on stock rom or on custom? if you are on stock then i am not sure if you can but install a custom rom with a2sd/int2ext/d2sd or whatever script suits u best. i use a2sd wirh app and dalvik on sd, appdata on nand
It's time you rooted your phone, got rid of the bloatware OR better still go for a custom ROM. Of the several ROMs I have tried over the last few years, I can instantly remember Supernova (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824) and ROMs from LeeDroid, Mildwild. Follow some of these threads and it will give you step by step instructions. All the best.
Thanks for reply. I am using stock Roms with 2.2 firmware. My phone is unlocked but is not rooted and also S-on . Would i have to S lock off in order to install custom ROMS or i can install custom ROMs just after rooting with S-on
Best to s off aswell

the above replies are correct, though i recommend you start with guides...
read the slowly and several times. they are designed to be used for anyone, even if you have no prior experience with rooting. you will also most likely to need to partition your sd card using gparted or 4ext recovery to make more space for apps, also covered in the guides.
then get in the habit of reading and searching...the answers to your queries have almost certainly already been answered...that way you learn faster...same goes for most things in life too

there is no way you've read them in the short time i've posted

you don't have to s-off, but it is much more advantageous, so do it. the guides will tell you how to do it, just like it did for all the noobs...
if you want go through with this, you will have to be prepared to read and learn, and eventually do it yourself. it may seem scary, but we all had to do it at some point. (if you don't understand terminology, or get an error message along the way, you won't even need to post or open another thread, search it here or in google (for instance), someone else will have had the same issue...)
S-off

To s-off you will need to use revolutionary here is a guide on it: http :// androidforums . com / desire-all-things-root / 439627-guide-s-off-root-htc-desire-revolutionary-windows-published-4th-november-2011-a . html
I would install recovery CWM 5.0.2.0 from http : // download2 . clockworkmod . com / recoveries / recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img
(remove all spaces in links)
Thanks guys. I appreciate that you guys spend your time in helping others. yea i need to learn and searched because its terminology which make me confuse . I also own galaxy s i9000 which has plenty of space for apps and its also easy to root or install custom roms in galaxy s i9000 as all you need is rooting package and odion..never had to go through this S-On/off things and boat loader stuff

Looking for Tip for rooting and custom rom

Hey guys, i need help. I realy want to optimize my battery and my camera, thats all i need and im thinking to use a hq camera mod and a custom stable rom
But can you give me some links how to unlock my bootloader and root my phone. I tried the all in one toolkit from htcdev. but didnt work.
Is there another method? And which one is less risky cuz i dont wanna brick my phone. Or should i wait a lil bit more while the developers make some better progress for making rooting methods less risky and painful
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
There is no other way then with the HTCdev site....learn fastboot commands directly instead of a toolkit. Once you know it, its easy !
And what rom are you looking for ...a sense based rom ?
Did you get the unlock code.bin file from HTC ?
I stucked at the first steps when i installed drivers successfully and ran the "boot in to a bootloader" it said the device was not found,
I had a htc wildfire before and i managed to root it and flash some roms without problems,
Can you send me a link with some manually rooting guide please.
And yea some sense based rom like ARHD or the Renovate, (i guess they are sense based lol) any Stable room with good battery life option
