4k Recording on GS4? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Is it possible To record at this res?

The sensor on the back has enough pixels. It's a question of heat created by the sensor as well as software and possibly hardware requirements.
All depends on how much $$ Samsung put it into the sensor. Honestly, I doubt it's possible due to physical requirements. But, even if it were, who is going to know how to make a camera take that kind of resolution at good quality other than Samsung devs?
If anyone can find the model number of the sensor used in the s4 camera, I can find out if it's possible.

No It's not possible, The GS4 has a 600 Snap Dragon Processor which handles up to 1080p recording beyond that the hardware is not capable of doing that only 800 can do and higher. It cannot do that even with the deepest hacking ever The architecture wasn't designed to support this.

Yupp. I forgot about that. Good info.

Why does every live wallpaper other than phase beam lag?

Im really bummed at the performance of the live wallpapers on this phone. It seems that only the default phase beam LWP works perfectly smoothly on the phone but everything else like the nexus and microbes will lag up the home screens. 3rd party LWPs dont perform any better too. Nevermind the SGS2, i dont even remember the Nexus S performing like this at all. Is this some poor optimisation by google or is it the Gnex's hardware?

Because phase beam doesn't scroll when swiping screens.

There are also LWPs that don't scroll but also lag, some times worse. Do scrollable wallpapers really have that much of a performance hit?

Phase beam does bring a tad lag - noticeable when opening the app drawer. The scrollable effect does seem to hit performance for some reason. My HTC desire HD behaved the same but my galaxy s 2 did not. I'm guessing its just the gpu cannot handle it.

nobody knows why, but it seems to be some optimization that google didnt do and needs to fix in update.

It has been a pretty common subject that live walls blow for performance anyway on most Android devices. It has been that way since their inception.
Bring up the GS2 all you want. I played with it in Best Buy (the ATT non-LTE one) and was not impressed. I even rebooted it There was still a performance hit, just less.
If it ran at 720p, the impact would be magnified.

Intelligent response. I could point out that it was I who handled the device, and it is I who saw the performance. Not you.
All you can say is not?
LOL....maybe your standards are lower than mine. If someone says to me that there is no performance hit, then it should be identical from static to live walls. It was not. It was acceptable, but it was not the same. Now run it at 720p. That performance difference would increase considerably.
They just need a fps increase...Google slacked and didn't do it for gingerbread lwp on ics...

I used to own a gs2. The performance of that phone surpasses everything I've seen so far for android. Even if the mali400 was rendering a higher resolution it would still blow the sgx540 outta the water. I ran ics on the sgs2 and it was not laggy at all.

It was also lower resolution, so of course it was....and I never said it wasn't faster. If anyone thinks I claimed differently, please re-read. I said there is a performance hit, regardless of device. That performance hit increases with resolution.

But you're still slightly wrong. The sgs2 had no performance hit with live wallpapers. Ask anyone in the sgs2 section. I'm assuming were talking about the same sgs2 (the one with an exynos and mali400 gpu). The ****rocket on att was not a contender to the i9100 or i777.
The mali400 can handle higher resolutions better than sgx540 as its apparent on the galaxy note. I'm really unsure as to why you can't accept this fact.

I am 100% sure (there is no such thing more than completely positive, so good luck with 110%) that you have no way to quantify that statement.

Let's start speculating on the Galaxy 4

I will start first:
Maybe 5"-5.3" screen.
1080p Display
12mp camera
3mp front camera
1.8ghz quad core
2.5gigs ram

I don't know why they would really bother with 1080p display or anything, it is already to the point where normal people can't distinguish the difference in resolution between super high end devices.
No, I don't need a higher resolution screen, I need a more adaptable screen with brighter, realistic colors that still manage to POP. A screen that works just as well outside in the sun as inside in the dark.
Improve the technology we have rather than constantly trying to develop new ways to do what we do that aren't really much, if any, better and are even worse sometimes.
Galaxy s4 will most likely have similar specs to the Galaxy s3.

5-5.3 in screen? That's Note territory, I think the screen will stay the same size.
I don't care about megapixels, 8mp is prefect for me. Now it would be awesome if they had better quality optics and optical zoom....

3000+mah battery and super amoled hd rgb. tegra 3. 4g lte. 2gb ram.
S4? Lol.
I'm still waiting for my S3.
Same screen size
1080p screen that isn't pentile, and works great in sunlight
don't mind if they stay at 8MP, just better sensors and optics(MP just means a larger image)
4000mAh battery
3MP front facing camera
32GB entry level S4
Build quality like the HTC One X or S imo
lets not...

Similar Build Quality
12MP Camera
2MP Front Camera
Same screen size.

Tegra 3? Tegra 3 will be old news this time next year. Anyway, why would Samsung use Tegra 3 when it has Exynos?
the same form factor with the following improvements:
newer display tech
22nm (or better) processor tech
software
all leading to improved battery life and performance
radio speeds wont really get much better, 4g networks are still being improved next gen networks wont be up and running yet. with the same screen size, anything over 720p wont be required. focus will be on code and power efficient tech to improve battery life and os speed.
- 5" bezel-less non-pentile AMOLED
- 2GHz quad-core
- 4GB RAM
- laser beams
- pink unicorns
I want an updated camera and optics. F2.0 and beats iPhone 4gs's camera in every way. I want studder free record and playback of 1080p recording. I also want a mic with built in auto level control so no more distorted vid audio.
4.8 inch screen, super amoled plus, Dual core A15 Exynos and the new Mali Gpu ( I hope)!!! and more motion features tho I don't know what else they can add but you never know!

Nokia Pureview on android (Mission Impossible?)

Hello,
I saw the camera of lumia 920 and i was amazed. Just wanted to ask if pureview is a hardware thing or software...It would be great if we had this great feature on our phones...What do you think?
Hardware is equally important as there is a bbbiiiiiggg difference between 8 and 41 mega pixel.
As for the software it is virtually impossible to port mainly because it would be a cross platform port.
But in ever expanding technology world it might be just possible.
Whole os has been ported in case of hd2 but just porting a single app is completely different thing.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Probably won't happen Samsung has some low light software built into the stock camera. The 920s camera is mainly hardware.

It's not really the 41MP that make the difference, but the size of the sensor. That many MP are only important if you like to zoom in when watching the photos that you took, but how often do we really need that? It is the best camera put on a phone, though. I only hope to keep seeing phone cameras with that large sensors.

The nokia 920 camera is 8.7 mp btw not 41. But ya, its defining feature is the Optical image stabilization which is hardware based.

Camera megapixel

Ok i know with digital cameras the mp diffrence can mean nothing since it is dependent alot on the hardware using it....
My question is does it work the same for cellphones? Ive read that the snapdragon 600 is capable of up to 21mp. Is there a way to make our phone or any phone go up to that high of imaging capabilities? Does our camera quality depend on the lense used or is it a combination of lense/hardware/software?

Depends on the sensor inside. There's no way to make it go that high without replacing the sensor.

You need a 13mp camera for 4k last I knew. The Tab S all have only an 8mp. The 1080p 60 maybe possible but there could be a hardware issue there as well since tablets get lesser cameras.

4K is less than 8 MP. Problem is that the part of the SOC used for image processing is probably not fast enough for 4K video.
