Nokia Pureview on android (Mission Impossible?) - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I saw the camera of lumia 920 and i was amazed. Just wanted to ask if pureview is a hardware thing or software...It would be great if we had this great feature on our phones...What do you think?

Hardware is equally important as there is a bbbiiiiiggg difference between 8 and 41 mega pixel.
As for the software it is virtually impossible to port mainly because it would be a cross platform port.
But in ever expanding technology world it might be just possible.
Whole os has been ported in case of hd2 but just porting a single app is completely different thing.

Probably won't happen Samsung has some low light software built into the stock camera. The 920s camera is mainly hardware.

It's not really the 41MP that make the difference, but the size of the sensor. That many MP are only important if you like to zoom in when watching the photos that you took, but how often do we really need that? It is the best camera put on a phone, though. I only hope to keep seeing phone cameras with that large sensors.

The nokia 920 camera is 8.7 mp btw not 41. But ya, its defining feature is the Optical image stabilization which is hardware based.

Change note 2 camera software using note 1

Hi guys.
I wonder how can I use the camera software from note1 on note2 as it gives much better results in crispness and in night mode despite the fact that bothare 8megapixels?
Thanks

Its not all the imaging processing, the sensor has a large amount to do with it as well, unfortunately the answer is no.... The devices are 2 x different devices and they have different drivers.

Vivo xplay - a very strong GN2 contender?

Hardware specs wise is superb, physically slimmer, doesn't look too much bigger to hold, design appearance ain't that bad either. Loving the 13mp camera. But one thing I'm really interested in is the 'free touch' feature. Really practical and innovative! Anybody able to develop a similar app for note 2? This phone sounds like a level up of every note 2 feature.

Best posted in the comparison thread with every other phone that is a contender.

Didn't know there was such a thread.but my main point is asking if the free touch feature can be ported over. Thanks for informing!

Nah the thread is fine. I don't like the one thread for everything idea tbh.
As for OP - just pure specs mean nearly nothing - just like LG Optimus G Pro IMHO. Dev support, upgrades etc. are also important. There might be devices with better specs than Note II. IMO Note II checks all the right boxes - that hardly any other devices do.
As for the feature, don't even know how it works. Or how it could even be ported.

So it's anybody able to port the free touch feature over to note 2? It would be very beneficial for larger phones given the recent trend towards increasing size

Camera megapixel

Ok i know with digital cameras the mp diffrence can mean nothing since it is dependent alot on the hardware using it....
My question is does it work the same for cellphones? Ive read that the snapdragon 600 is capable of up to 21mp. Is there a way to make our phone or any phone go up to that high of imaging capabilities? Does our camera quality depend on the lense used or is it a combination of lense/hardware/software?

Depends on the sensor inside. There's no way to make it go that high without replacing the sensor.

4k Recording on GS4?

Is it possible To record at this res?
The sensor on the back has enough pixels. It's a question of heat created by the sensor as well as software and possibly hardware requirements.
All depends on how much $$ Samsung put it into the sensor. Honestly, I doubt it's possible due to physical requirements. But, even if it were, who is going to know how to make a camera take that kind of resolution at good quality other than Samsung devs?
If anyone can find the model number of the sensor used in the s4 camera, I can find out if it's possible.

No It's not possible, The GS4 has a 600 Snap Dragon Processor which handles up to 1080p recording beyond that the hardware is not capable of doing that only 800 can do and higher. It cannot do that even with the deepest hacking ever The architecture wasn't designed to support this.
Yupp. I forgot about that. Good info.

Any for Galaxy S3 owners?

I'm considering this phone as an upgrade from my S3 cause of its amazing build quality and features.
But I was wondering how does the M8 camera compare to the S3?
I understand that the M8 camera isn't the greatest available but I could live with it, if it's equal to the S3 or slightly better.

Argh, I would screw up the title. Former*

Better. By miles. Feels like the shutter speed is twice as fast as the S4

Different
My thought is that you can not compare the two.
The S3 makes decent photo's and what you see is what you get.
With the M8, because of the ultrapixels you get a picture with some sort of a grain, and you have to take more effort to get the picture you want. (maybe it's because i'm more skeptical since i've had the S3)
I personally love the photo's i take with the M8, they give me the feeling that im dealing with an old camera (in a positive way)
