DPI for Samsung Galaxy S4 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Okay so I am wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the DPI for the S4. What does everyone consider to be the best DPI for the S4? Is there an easy way to change the DPI in cyanogenmod? I am currently using Infamous v5 with 340 DPI. I like the the fact there are more icons on the screena and such but it does look a bit off. Also is there a way to change the DPI per app, to fix some of the apps issues that come up?

1) I like 360, but some apps I will go down to 340.
2) In CyanogenMod you can still use the Xposed Framework and Per-App DPI settings using the App Settings module.
3) As for the icons, in your launcher make your grid larger, I use 7 columns and 6 rows at 360 DPI with 95% icon size and it looks amazing. All in Apex Launcher for me.

I have heard of issues for certain apps not showing up in the Play Store, is that a recurring problem?
Kinda dumb question, I have been trying to find a clear and easy way to install Xposed Framework on The Cyanogenmod Nightly on my S4, any suggestions or links you could send my way?

[Q] Change dpi to 240 from default 320dpi

Hello everyone,
I am using a ROM with default 320 dpi. This rom has no ui switcher app so can't change ui to 240.
I love using my phone in 240dpi..I thought changing in build.prop and changing system ui using xposed..is that ok? If not then how do that?

That is fine, you should however, install an alternative launcher first and set it as default. Reason being that Touchwiz does not scale/adapt to the change in DPI.
Launchers such a Nova Launcher (which I use), Apex launcher, etc: are capable of handling 240DPI.
Also most, if not all, Samsung apps (i.e, stock clock, calculator, camera, contacts, phone, calendar, etc) don't handle 240DPI. You will need to use Xposed, as you've mentioned, to change them to 320 DPI if you wish to use them properly.
The other option you have is to use Xperiacle's Tablet, Phablet and Multiwindows mod

Changing launcher dpi will change the launcher's dpi only and not the system..i want to change system dpi to 240..
And xperiacle's mod is incompatible with latest mg1 build

Changing systemui.apk to 240DPI in Xposed/App Settings is fine. I've done it, works with no issues.
Currently have my Note 2 in 200DPI (changed in build.prop).
Only mentioned those launchers, as I wasn't sure if you knew that Touchwiz won't scale properly if run at 240dpi (if you change "ro. sf.lcd_density=320 to 240" in build.prop).
Hence why you would need alternative launcher (and alternative keyboard, as Samsung keyboard will FC at 240dpi)
I did not say anything about changing the launcher dpi.

Setting systemui.apk in Xposed to 240 dpi will only affect the systemui (i.e the notification bar, etc).
Changing the dpi from 320 to 240 in 'build.prop' will change everything to 240dpi (including the notification dropdown, etc)
If your going to change build.prop, then thats all you need to do. No need to change systemui in Xposed.
Edit: What I did, was edit "ro. sf.lcd_density=320" to "ro. sf.lcd_density=200" and saved it, reboot the phone. Then in App Settings (its the Xposed module used to change dpi for individual apps), changed all Samsung apps to 320 to have them function properly.
In your case, you would change "ro. sf.lcd_density=" to 240, then follow the rest of the instructions.

You dint read this completely , When you flash the file you will have the Xperia Z launcher and that is where you could make use of UI switcher,
and you will have to flash those files provided by BALA for Dial pad and camera so they dont crash
I've tested this on many roms and works like charm .

Nova launcher and Flatro icons. I haven't figured out how to make the navigation bar transparent yet. The status bar is made transparent and KitKat icons used in place of the stock ones using gravitybox.

Scrap that, I've sorted the navigation bar transparency, there's a small glitch in gravitybox, the navigation bar won't go transparent until you have pulled down the notification bar once.

How have you been able to change dpi settings? Is root necessary ?

Yes you do need root. Easiest way of doing it is by using an app like Texdroider DPI, available through the Play Store.
@terminal 7 good idea, changing the dpi.
root .. yep

yes root is required, various apps then deal with full system dpi change ie- ROM TOOLBOX which has an array of tools and is suited to newer roms, some older apps mess up jelly bean build.prop and cause boot loop so take care with the app you use.
for more control over individual app dpi just install the XPOSED FRAMEWORK and once installed go through the list of available modules that are downloadable from the main xposed app and look for APP SETTINGS module, you get a much better level of control similar to the way paranoid android roms let you change individual apps.
enjoy.

This is what I did currently.
I modded the lockscreen, so that music widget is transparent and (more important) those annoying white grips at the side, when you turn on the screen, are gone.
The Launcher is Nova 2.3beta with semi-transparent navbar, plus I modded the SystemUI.apk for semi-transparent status bar and swapped Back/Recent buttons.
Widgets are Anton's Kalender Widget, Gotasks (with heavily modded app and transparent widget) and Eye in sky weather.
Setup of Nova is no-Dock and 7x5 grid. Background is FiveWallpapers from market with 4 different pictures for 4 homescreens.

Thanks a lot. I am a kind of a newbie with all those things. Im a bit scared of rooting my moto G ans loose my warranty. I've already done this with my nexus 10, but idk, i need tout try... Haha
I was playing around with several icon sets, but they never support ALL icons which looks odd, so I keep the default icons.

[Q] Need help to find the right screen density on CM 11

I upgraded from Slimbean to Cyanogenmod 11 and the first thing which disturbed me was the large icons.. b'coz on Slimbean the Screen Density is set at 182(Default) and the icons look sharp.. so when i changed it to 182 on CM 11 the icons look blurry except it every thing is just fine ! Please drop in your comments to help me to find a lower screen density without blurry icons.

Kitkat does have bigger icons than Jelly Bean. Google did this to emphasize the "app-centric" approach in Kitkat... Naturally this app-centric approach is unchanged in any AOSP-based ROMs. Try Android's standard DPIs: 240 (phone), 213 (phablet), 160 (tablet). These DPIs won't conflict with Play Store. I personally use 213...
Also try custom launchers such as Nova
sadly, if you set the DPI to anything other than 240, the Google Experience Launcher will have blury icons. I tried. I even tried app settings to change it to 240 DPI, but the result is still a launcher with blurry icons and a 5x5 app drawer. If you want to set the DPI to anything other than 240, you need to use launcher3 or any other replacement launcher.

did not work for me. I am currently learning to like 240 on CM11. BUT, never on stock samsung firmware. but, 240 seems to get nicer each day that goes by.

Per App DPI messes up Zooper Hotspots.

So I am using the "App Settings" Xposed mod to change the DPI of my Nova Launcher to be denser (yes, I know I can change the grid size and stuff, but I want EVERYTHING to be denser). Unfortunately, that seems create an offset of my Zooper "Hotspots" . I have my Nova DPI at default now, but is there anyway I modify the DPI while still having Zooper hotspots work?
Thanks.

Changing the DPI will undoubtedly mess with Zooper widgets. It might help if the icons and hotspot areas are attached the same anchor but, apart from that, there isn't all that much you can do to stop it playing about.
Besides, you only change the DPI once, so you only have to adjust your widgets once and that'll be sorted for good.

DPI Change (Home Screens, App Drawer and App Icons)

I have a note 10+ (SM-N975U1) and I am looking for a way to get my Home Screens, App Drawer and App Icons to follow the DPI change I make under Developer Options. When I change the DPI to anything other than the standard 410, everything seems to change with the exception of the home screens, app drawer and app icons. I was able to do this a few releases ago but I cannot any longer.
Any ideas on how I can get this to change without installing a different launcher?
Thanks in advance!

I had this issue with the Note 9 already, and seems that the stock launcher doesn't follows the DPI setting.
We had this issue with the official keyboard too.
I'm still waiting for a solution too.
