[Q] SGH-M919 Modem on SGH-M919V - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

So yeah I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919V) by Videotron which I then unlocked, sadly I had the surprise of not having access to LTE so I came here immediately in order to find a solution, which I sort of did but didn't work as well as people claimed it would. I downloaded T-Mobile's stock ROM (M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB ) and extracted it to get my modem.bin which I then put in a .tar to flash in Odin with no success, instead I go a Security Check Fail error. I've then did some Google search which brought me to a few threads here and there with other people with similar issues but no actual clear explanation on how to go through this, any idea or optimal solution for this? It would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jon

After further research, I came across a few information which draws me to a different issue that could probably be causing the rest.
Apparently Odin has to read my phone and show a yellow box to say that it's actually working and ready to go? I already had the latest Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones and USB Debugging Mode enabled but I still do not get that said yellow box and it keeps giving me Auth Fail errors with literally ANYTHING I flash on my phone whether its a Custom Recovery, a Modem or even a mere input in Android Terminal Emulator, it's as if my phone was completely blocked from any type of outside source for whatever reason, never had this problem before. Anything that I could be missing?

So I managed to install a custom recovery and rooted it, so basically, the issue isn't Odin, it's a modem compatibility issue, my current modem is M919VVLUAMG1 which is from Videotron and doesn't support LTE, and on this exact website people said that it was possible to flash a modem.bin from T-Mobile's firmware in order to be able to get my LTE back but this leaves me with an Auth Fail error all the time. I'm really desperate here and the lack of support is saddening.

The temporary solution that I found is simply installing the latest T-Mobile Cyanogen Mod on my device and I got my LTE back but that isn't what I am looking for, so until I find a more solid solution I'll stick to this.

Is that 10.1 or 10.2 CM? You got LTE with calls to work with that?

10.2 RC2, set your APN to the proper LTE one, it'll show you 4G but in reality its LTE, its written in the CyanogenMod's FAQs and I also did a speed test which got me 45 Mbps DL and 25 Mbps UL

The tutorial for Rooting and all these ROMs present in android development section, are they the same for the T-989D Canadian version? Flashing them would work? I'm tried searching but it would just bring up roms based on T-989D. Just need a quick confirmation before I root and flash. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that if something can be flashed on T989 (T-Mobile), it can be flashed on T989D (Telus/Koodo). I understand that the are just some small differences wrt access to download mode and recovery. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079776
btw, I have a T989D on Koodo

Short answer is yes! Everything you will find here is working perfectly fine on the canadian version.
So go ahead and root/flash away!

I have a T989D on Koodo which I've been messing with quite extensively, and yeah, everything is basically the same. The download/recovery mode linked above is the only major difference.
One thing of note, if you end up messing up the device and need to fully reflash from Odin, the t-mobile stock may not work. I tried over and over to recover from what was essentially a brick (ultra, ultra slow) and it just stayed that slow, even though it did seem to boot and connect and everything. It was totally unusable, however.
I found a different one that did work however, I can't seem to find the post anymore but I'm sure you'll be able to get it if you need it, there seem to be others out there with the same name, but not quite the same filesize. That shouldn't really matter as you'll doubtless go back to a custom rom anyway, the point is just to get you back to something that works.
For reference, the name of the one that worked for me is "SGH-T989_UVLH1_Stock_Odex_zipaligned_signed.zip" and it's 422 MB. This post seems to have a Koodo stock zip as well as the T-mobile one, it's about 100MB less but again, that really shouldn't matter so long as it's Koodo.
Hopefully you'll never need to use it, but I just wanted to let you know that even if you have to recover and some files don't seem to be working, keep trying, because the correct ones are out there! Just may need to search a bit for 'em

A few more things SGH-T989D owners may want to be aware of:
1) This is an excellent resource: [ROM][Stock]T989UVLI4 (4.0.4) ♛ T989DTLLE4 (4.0.3) ♛ T989DTLLG2[ODIN][TWRP/CWM]
2) You might want to search and replace all "T989" with "T989D" in build.prop
" " replace all "TLLG2" with whatever radio your new ROM is using.
If you're on Koodo you might want to assign that to the ro.carrier property
3) If you've got a data plan with you might want to search the web for your carrier's apn info and insert it into "Settings|Wireless & networks|Mobile networks"
Note: This stuff is optional in the sense that your stuff is probably going to work if you don't make these changes. I haven't always updated all this after switching to a new custom rom, but I did notice that I showed up on the Telus network as a T989 as opposed to a T989D on the Koodo network. Really they're the same network but ... I don't know. Maybe I just over think things... I do like the fact that when I plug my phone into the computer or go to the play store or whatever that my phone reports as what it actually is and what radio it uses etc. I don't really care that much as long as my stuff works and I have access to apps that are appropriate for the hardware I'm using. YMMV.
Note2: Most of this info can be gleaned from your stock rom's "CSC" folder and build.prop file. When I have a little more time I'll write this up so its more understandable for those new to flashing Roms. Just wanted to mention that there are a few other tiny, nearly insignificant differences btw the T989 and T989D so that the OP and/or others can address these points if they choose to. At least not be surprised if it looks as though they're using data on a network with a different phone.
Note3: Maybe the only thing that matters is an imei number from your SIM. I don't really know. Be glad to be "told" by anyone that knows. I just know that these things are different even if they don't make a bit of difference in practice.
Re:Koodo SGH-T989D
Hello I'm new to posting on the forums, sorry If I've missed the answer to this question already!
I have a Koodo SGH-T989D that I got in September, before that I was using a non smart flip phone . So I'm quite new to this whole rom business, but even android/ smart phone os in general.
I've been able to flash many roms in the past couple months and have a good understanding of what it is i'm doing. Never had an issue I couldnt fix myself actually, so I've never made an account.
This latest problem has me puzzled though, I've totally lost data connection on my s2x while using any radio. I use SGH-T989D_TLLG2_Koodo_radio but I tried UVLI4 just to see.
However I did change a few things up from my usual routine to flash 4.2.1
1: changed twrp to 2.4.1.0 from 2.2 cwm flashable zip
2: moved all my zips to sd card and formatted internal memory(to eliminate possible issues)
Before this I was using twrp 2.2 and only doing a clean install, not formatting internal sd without any issues or instability.
I've been on [4.2.1 | 4.2.2] AOKP :: jb-mr1 :: build 3 and very impressed with it, except this one issue.
In the thread there is a post that refers to getting data working with koodo, so I think its an apn/proxy setting. I just am not sure where I would have to change these settings.
Just restored a recent nandroid backup and everything works fine.
Can anyone help me out, any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Check here for Koodo APN settings: http://koodomobile.com/en/on/switch2koodo-step-3-c.shtml
Go to settings > wireless and network, more... > mobile networks > access point names > then hit your options button > New APN > enter the details found on the page linked above.
Hope that solves it for you.
Re:Koodo SGH-T989D
Thank you so much, worked right away!
The reason I didnt just look up koodo apn settings is because I had no idea what they were.
And Until now I've never had an issue.
Is this something to do with aokp 4.2 or is it because I formatted my internal storage?
Since mid December I've tried out about 5 or 6 roms just to see how they compared to stock. And all I have to say is wow!
Thank you to all those who make this possible, it really is a great community.
I was on stock koodo rom and unrooted until december because my charge port stopped working after like 3 months...? So I went looking for info and I was brought here, haven't looked back since.
When to check for proper apn info?

Ususally associated with radio upgrades; but rather than get too particular, its good practice to check the apn info after any ROM upgrade. If you think about it, any of the hercules upgrades are going to be the same across the board for any given update. Where they're different is where we want to pay particular attention. In this case, carrier specific information.

Hey guys new here..need some help.

I attempted to root my Galaxy S3 (SCH-530M) From Metro PCS. I used odin and follow instructions carefully. I have rooted other phones this is my first problem I have ever stumbled upon this problem. I used a toolkit which allowed me to ROOT my phone but now I only get "Galaxy S3" logo and then screen turns black. I can boot into "safe mode" it shows clear cache, factory reset, ect.
I tried to follow instructions here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219755
Here are errors I received:
<ID:0/004> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
"Secure Check Fail" Sbl1 message. shows on my phone.
I am little frustrated been at this since 10am it is now 5PM. I can boot into recovery mode, phone turns on starts and everything but it stays on black screen and my led on top left side flashes bright blue.
Any info is a major thank you. I wish I can here to contribute but sadly I am in this bind.....I attached a screenshot from my desktop to show you guys what errors say.
The first thing you need to know is not all S3's are the same. Never flash anything not for your model phone.
The second is yours is an older metro model from when they were tied to Sprint I think it was. What this means is that it's a variant of Sprints model, and so you will be better off using their forum for future flashes and help. Do not flash anything you find here. They are not compatible.
Third is I don't recommend the toolkit. It's usually out of date and while it was helpful to some in the beginning, it now seems to cause more problems than anything. If you want root, search for root66 firmware in the Sprint forum. He may have your version there as well.
Finally, I didn't read the thread you linked, but 95% of the time, a factory reset will solve the hanging at boot.
I also highly recommend reading the stickies threads. Lots of great info you should know about and there are several methods to gain root.
For the Odin problem. Makes sure kies is NOT installed, try different cables and different usb ports.

Thanks for advice but I think you missed a few things I pointed out. I am using a Metro PCS S3 the model you linked me too for root66 .tar is for Verizon S3 not Metro PCS. Verizon is i535 and mines is R530M would that also mess up my phone even more? I HAVE tried factory reset and cache wipe. Nothing is working phone stays stuck on black screen AFTER boot logo.
I went o sprint forums they told me my phone is NOT the same as theirs. I am aware of various S3 models it was many said to use ODIN and it caused me a world of problems right now.

I couldn't be sure if mrRobinson had made the root66 firmware for your model or not. If he did it would've most likely been in Sprints or maybe Verizon's root66 threads. All I meant was for you to check their threads to see if your variant was there. In ours, for example, there is also the T999V firmware, which is related to our T999, but is different.
What I am fairly sure of is your model is a CDMA device, like Sprints and Verizon's. T-Mobile and AT&T are GSM. When T-Mobile bought metro they stopped offering the R530, and replaced it with the T999N. Prior to this several people asked me for help with their R530M, and the best I could do was direct them to Sprints forum where others had posted about that model.
I suggested going there because there are people with the same model and they may have run into similar issues. And even if they haven't the rest of the info in that forum would be more relevant to your device than what you find here.
I'm not sure why you are having trouble with Odin. I've seen in other models forums where sometimes you may need something more, or something different than just the stock firmware. I don't know if that could help you or not, so I'm just trying to get you pointed in the direction where you might find someone who can.
There are some issues that are universal with things like Odin, but usually it ends up being a problem with the computer, the usb cable, bad/corrupted downloads, etc. Which is why I mentioned those. But you mentioned an error that showed on your phone, an sbl1 secure boot error or something like that. To my knowledge none of the GSM devices have ever shown this. Not that I remember anyway. But it may have something to do with a locked boot loader like Verizons, or it could be something entirely different. But again, you'd likely have better luck finding similar problems in the others forums.
If you can verify some roms that will work on yours, you may consider flashing CWM or TWRP using Odin. Then try flashing the Rom from recovery, factory reset and reboot. May not help, but it's something to try. Also, make sure you downloaded the latest firmware for your model and try it again.
If I get a chance I'll try to help find out more for you. But for now I hope that helps clarify what I was saying before and helps get you pointed in the right direction.
This would be a bit of a long shot, but you could go to your local store and see if they will offer some sort of trade for the T999N. (Doubtful, but it can't hurt to ask) Now that metro is with T-Mobile, you're likely to get better service with it, unless they've got something worked out where devices like yours can still use Sprint towers/networks.

[Q] SOS! Internet super slow! (Should I change modems?)

Im sorry to be asking this (I've searched the forums and google and can't find anything conclusive)
Background:
I have a service contract with AT&T and I'm currently a customer of them. I used to have the Galaxy S4 (i747), and the usb charging port stopped working. I took it into a repair shop where they messed the whole phone up and had to give me back the phone with a whole new board in it, the only problem with the new board it's a board for i747M. I was having issues with the phone being stuck on edge - so I proceeded to unlock it again (I do not trust the work they did, and even thou I had network with my AT&T SIM Card, I had to make sure it was unlocked), I also restored the old IMEI - and after all this I was able to get out of edge.
The problem:
Even thou the phone reports 4G LTE, the internet is super slow!!
I made a speed test and the speeds are at 256 download // 512 upload - WEIRD!
The new board is for i747M - I already restored the IMEI to the one the original board had, I checked my APN and everything is in order.
(Did I missed anything? other than calling the repair shop and scream at them!)
I was wondering if I flash an i747 modem (MJB to be exact, since I'm on 4.3 with MK5), will the speeds improve, or will I brick the phone?
Any help greatly appreciated, I'm desperate!

You are unlikely to brick the phone by flashing the modem alone (although I affirm no guarantees to this effect) unless you try to flash the wrong bootloader and/or ROM. You did not, however, say which ROM your phone is currently on. Is it currently on the I747MVLUEMK5 or I747UCUEMJB? There is always a problem with incompatibility between your modem and ROM respectively which is what you'll have if you flash the MJB model whilst on the MK5 ROM plus, of course, subsequent firmware upgrades may be compromised. Are you sure also it's not an hardware issue you are having and the "repair shop" didn't muck up something on the mother board or install a dud? At this stage, however, I don't see how you have much to lose in trying a different modem. If it doesn't help, you can always go back to the previous one. All discussions about warranty are probably off the table already.

How to use LS980 with T-Mobile ?

Hi all,
I have an LS980 that I am trying to get to work for T-Mobile and have a few questions. I know the phone is capable of this feat, as I did it once, and have no recollection of what we did. It has since been flashed to stock.
I am basing a lot of what I'm trying off of this article, since it is basically what I'm trying to achieve.
I am able to flash the LS980 to stock as outlined in this article.
However, at 94% progress it says it is waiting 120 seconds for a reboot. At this point the phone reboots into the OS and seems to stop communicating with the LGFlashTool, so I never end up at 100%, though the Phone seems to be running. Not sure if this matters.
I am able to use IORoot successfully as well (verified with Root Checker
If I try using AutoRec to install TWRP, I can typically boot into recovery once, but after that one time, I enter a boot loop, and am unable to get into the system. I have been able to get into Recovery, but if I flash a rom, or try to just access the Stock system at this point, I enter a boot loop, or occasionally I boot to a black screen. In this situation, I have just ended up flashing to stock again.
My Questions:
I want to use the LS980 on Tmobile. It seems possible if I tweak the radio, the APN, prop builder, and a variety of other things. Alternatively, it seems like I could just flash a Tmobile ROM . If I flash a T-Mobile ROM , would I still need to go through all the system changes to make the phone work on T-Mobile's network, or is that sort of 'baked' into the ROM already?
Should I be concerned that while flashing to stock, it never hits 100%, even though it leaves me in the system? I have tried looking into it, but haven't really found any info on the matter.
Others who have used the LS980 on T-Mobile, did you opt to tweak the stock image settings, or go with a ROM? What was your reasoning? (ROM seems way easier overall, but curious none the less).
Once I have chosen Stock with settings changed, or T-Mobile ROM, what specifically needs to happen to get the phone access to the T-Mobile network? I have a SIM card from my other T-Mobile phone that fits the LS980, but I'm not certain what beyond putting the SIM into the phone needs to happen? (I don't swap phones enough to remember this). I'm sure there's a 'let me google that for you' coming my way on this one, but if there is, I just can't figure out the right way to ask the question.
I appreciate everyone's help with this.
I did end up getting this to work, and will be writing out the specifics to my task in detail in a bit so hopefully it can help someone later. But I thought I'd answer the questions I had with the answers I came across.

I ended up getting it to work off just the stock image. I still don't have a definitive answer if a T-MOBILE rom would need tweaked or not (I can't get ROMs to work... different issue).

I got everything working despite the restore only showing as getting to 94%. I can't say for sure if there are some unknown issues with not hitting 100%, but thus far it seems like all is well.

Since I was keeping the same phone number, I was able to just take the SIM from my current active phone, and put it in the LS980. All of the stuff I read about activating SIM cards etc only applied if you were switching SIM cards for reasons such as to change phone numbers, or if you didn't have one that fit the phone you were moving to.

Sm-s260dl galaxy j2 core? I think help

Ok so I just got out of prison and use to have a rooted phone actually I've rooted all my phones I cant find a single walk through for this phone matter of fact I cant find anything on it and I want to root it because I wanna get rid of ads and custom recovery possibly a rom that's more customizable its through straight talk can anyone help me please once again it's a sm-s260dl
Just bumping this to see if any response. I also have Sm-s260dl, and it's locked up tight. "oem unlock" option is hidden in settings, and I've tried tricks posted online to reveal it, but don't work. I also went to authorized Samsung service, and they couldn't do anything. They are bound by Samsung agreement that they can't flash any fw on a device except for the original stock fw (to repair only), and there is only one file officially available for Sm-s260dl, which is the same fw it has, which is Tracfone branded, (which is probably the reason it's so inaccessible).
I have network unlocked, using Samkey, and have access to freeze system apps and write secure settings, using adb and Island/appops/setedit apps, but would really like to be able to unlock the bl. I know it's made unlockable by Samsung, but how's can I get to it?
Any way to use activity manager or other adb to toggle the switch through terminal, or...?
Thanks
Hello,
I'm looking for stock firmware for this device. I'm having difficulties flashing the firmware I have found for it. I need the BIT 5 version to flash in Odin.
Thanks.
Souds as if all our s260dl need the same bit, as ive also been searching for it. It is listed as downloadable with Z3x box server, torrent file, so i dont know if there is an atual file attached to it, i dont know. I have been able to get a couple torrents to work, but not this one.I I have chimera, and it has 0 files for this model.
Interesting enough, when looking into this device, I found a post, that shows an image of the s260dl and on the screen the firmware installed is J260Axxxxx.
If i remember correctly, it was a leak before the official release /announcement for the device.
Im thinking itll be accessable soon., or I'll end up getting the z3x box soon anyway. Ill update here if found etc.
Bootloaders locked tight, no root for this device unless exploit found.
Can easily be network unlocked for use on other carriers tho.
