1) Power off phone (be sure to turn off fast reboot in settings first). 2) Boot into recovery by holding volume down key and then holding power key until boot menu appears. 3) Volume down to RECOVERY and tap power key to select. 4) HTC logo appears followed by blank, dim screen. Briefly tap all three simultaneously: power key, volume up and down keys, and release immediately. You may have to do this step a few times to get the timing right. 5) Black screen appears and SD card error message scrolls. After about 5-10 seconds, recovery menu appears (all in very small font). Volume-down to "wipe cache partition" at bottom of list and tap power key. Cache gets cleared. Then select "reboot system now" by tapping power key again (this choice highlighted). Done!
Device will now be a little snappier and some quirky behavior that sometimes develops is fixed. May want to do this every month or so to keep things running better, or if device behaving strangely and you want to try a quick fix that may work.

After step 4 I only got after a few seconds of a back dim screen a screen with a picture of the HTC One and a overlay at it with a red triangle and red exclamation mark. After about 20 seconds seeing that the telephone reboots.
May I press the 3 buttons more times or only once? Wasn't my timing right?

This doesn't seem to work after the 5.1.1 update.
I didn't try it before, but neither the 3 button press or Vol-Up + Power button combination work to get into clear cache.

Hi
Just got into recovery mode.... trying to flash ARHD ROM. Currently have LeeDroid.
Anyway, got into recovery, did a wipe data/factory reset, like I did when I flashed LeeDroid. Once it said, "Data wipe complete.", I must have pressed something and now it says, "Back menu button disabled.".
I can go up and down on the Recovery menu, but when I try to select something using the Power button, all I get is a white box with the little green Android jumping out of it !
can't power off, restart, cant select anything... and I dont think the phone is chargin when in Recovery mode ! Alas !
What to do !!
I should have all my zip ROM files still on SD card !

I faced this kind of problem few days back. Just take of your battery and again enter into ur bootloader and next recovery. Don't know more than this. Hope your issue will be solved

Try holding down the volume down button. I had this last week & holding the vol down button re-enabled it.

Pull your battery then hold the phone side ways & put it back in as soon as its back in, without even putting the side back on, hold the volume down button and power button and you should go into the bootloader. Now put the case back on without losing contact with the battery (bit fiddly) then look.at the screen & you'll see an option for recovery. Chose that using volume keys n power button. Then proceed as normal. Their may be another way but its happened to me after a wipe before n that's what I done

I have had the One for a few days now and have been having data problems. I wanted to wipe the cache partition in recovery, but I cant get to it.
The phone is 100% stock.
I pwr+vol dn to get to the bootloader, then I select recovery and hit the power button. I get the HTC splash screen, then the screen goes black for 10-20 seconds and the phone reboots. I have tried every button combo I could find while the screen is black, but no luck so far.
From what I have found online, after selecting recovery in bootloader the phone should load a screen with a red triangle, then from there pwr+ vol up takes you to recovery. Even this doesn't work.
I talk to Verizon tech support and a guy in a corporate store and they both said that the One has no recovery.? I don't believe them.
I would really like to know what I'm missing here?

I did try this multiple times. The strange thing is that after I select recovery from the bootloader the screen goes black. Shouldn't it display an icon with two green arrows forming a circle, or red triangle or something?

try a factory reset from the bootloader after you back up everything that you can.
The HTC One was showing different odd behaviors with different recoveries on some isolated incidents before.
I have seen a few times that recoveries broke due to some random stuff happening. I have not seen the stock recovery break though. Interesting.
In the cases i have seen, a RUU did always help. Or put differently: re-flashing the recovery helped, no matter how it was done.
Sometimes its even enough if you just put the phone to fastboot mode and do a "fastboot erase cache" in cmd.
If you feel familiar with ADB and fastboot, you can obtain a stock Verizon recovery image here on XDA and flash it, using fastboot (provided you managed to unlock your phone or did the new s-off method).
Maybe first try to fastboot erase cache too.
Then, if you are S-ON and locked, you would need a Verizon RUU, which is not available as far as i know. So that would mean then service if none of the tips here help you. The service centers have the RUU's.... for them its a matter of a few minutes to fix it i guess...

When i first got my One a couple of weeks ago, i tried accessing recovery as well and got the same results. Black screen and seemed to freeze up for about a minute then it would boot into android. This was while i was 100% stock and locked. After s-off and flashing cwm i have no problems getting into recovery.

Mine came the same way, no functional stock recovery...(strange)
After S-Off and unlocking and loading a custom recovery, it hasn't had any Recovery related issues at all.
Getting into recovery on a completely stock device is tricky. I had the same issue. You select recovery from the hboot menu and wait till the screen goes black. I mean, completely off. Then hold the volup + power buttons.
Took me a few tries, but once I figured it out I was able to get in almost always.
ak074 said:
after selecting recovery from the bootloader, wait 40 seconds after the screen goes black. you should then see the red triangle and exclamation mark. you can also just hold vol up and keep tapping the power button. if you do it right, you should see yellow text at the bottom that says "Mount SDCARD failed 1 times" then 2 times, 3 times, 4 times, 5 times. this is what the phone is doing while the screen is black. pressing vol up and power a few times enables this to be shown. when that's done, you will see the triangle as you are used to seeing. hope this helps! hit the thanks button if it does :good:[/
After I did the volume up and the power button some tiny text came up on the screen (green) and went thru the routine you described and a green triangle came up and written underneath it said ANDROID RECOVERY or something like that. The text was so small I had to use a magnifying glass to read it. While in that recovery you have the option to wipe the cache partition, apply from sd card, apply from phone storage, apply from cache and wipe data / factory reset. So evidently this phone's recovery is wierd. HTC probably didn't expect anyone but developers to use it.

I can't get into recovery mode by using Power + VolDown or using the AIO program.
The phone does show up in Device Manager but not in fastboot commands or in Windows Explorer.
What're my options from this point?
UPDATE:
It randomly turned on and now it's stuck on the 'htc ONE' screen and not turning off/on.

Would a USB download jig work for an HTC? If so then they are cheap and available on the web. Easy to build too.

I haven't done it on the G3, but I always used GooManager for that. I'm sure Flashify and others have that option.

How to Enter Recovery mode in LG G3:
First Switch off the phone. For that, press the power button and choose “power off”.
Wait for the mobile shuts down.
Now press and hold the “Volume Down + Power” button together untill you get the LG logo on your screen.
It may take up to 2 to 3 seconds.
Now release those buttons.
And again press those buttons for few seconds untill the recovery screen appears.
Now you will get the screen.

My solution for that has always been to make a TWRP back up, which I've already done, then move it to my PC and perform a factor reset, then moving the back up back to the phone.

I know this post is quite old, but for those unaware, if you have TWRP installed and need to manually access Recovery Mode; you will get a prompt to Factory Reset your phone. Just click "Yes" and it will reboot the phone back into TWRP. I have done this several times and my phone has never been factory reset.
Just thought I'd share!

This only works if you have TWRP installed via the Bump! method! If you do this if you don't have TWRP installed, you're going to wipe your system

Do you have an MOFD_UPDATE file on the root of your phone or SD card?
If it's an OTA, it should delete after the update runs.

Hold power button and press volume up key a few times or until you get to recovery menu. I got stuck like this for a little while too until I realised I'd skipped a step to get to recovery...
Oh, I was thinking that it actually started an update, then errored out or actually ran an update.
Yeah if it's just the dead Android icon, that's normal. That's what happens when you boot into stock recovery on these phones for some reason.
As stated above this post, just hold the power button for a second, then press the Vol-Up key. Once you get the timing down, it'll be really easy to do, but you might have to try a few times to get it to actually kick into recovery.
Don't hold the power for 5 seconds or it will reboot. Make sure you let go of the power button after you press the Vol-Up key.
This will happen every time you boot into recovery when you have stock recovery.
