Hboot 1.01.0002
Rom manager says recovery flashed successfully, but when I goto recovery it shows phone image with exclamation mark, i press vol up+power then it shows stock recovery with a message bellow in yellow text "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Simply my phone is rooted but I am unable to install custom recovery.
I am unable to understand the issue. Would be thankfull if anybody can help.
Thanks

Not sure if this'll work, but give it a try.
Place the attaches file in the root of your SD(not inside a folder)
turn the phone off, hold volume down+power and get to bootloader.
wait until it scans the SD.
select yes with volume buttons and press the power button.
It'll install CWM.
Hope this works

Yes I already tried this, when I run fastboot command (fastboot flash recovery recovery_name.img)
It says:
'recovery'... FAILED (remote: Command not allowed ...
I don't know what is going wrong, my phone is rooted and superuser is installed and working fine. I think something wrong with my phone cache folder as it says in stock recovery screen "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" do you have any idea of that?

sorry mate, No idea about that.
Just asking, in the fastboot command, did you replaced the recovery_name with the actual file name?

Hi!
I recently rooted my Desire with unrevoked 3 and I installed the ReflexS rom. Everything worked perfectly!
I was curious for Cyanogenmod and I downloaded version 7.0.3 directly through Rom Manager. When the download was completed it suggested to install which I agreed. I think clear Dalvik cache was marked, but clear data cache was not. I agreed... maybe my first mistake.
After this Cyanogenmod was installed, but my Desire stayed on the boot screen (sakteboarding android with running arrow) for over 30min so I took out the battery. I restarted and it goes well until the android setup screen "tap the android to begin". I can tap and it gets glowing, but it does not continue! I can not go any further than this. The only thing I can do is choose a language or shutdown.
To overcome this issue I thought of recovering/reinstalling my previous ROM. I also have a Titanium backup.
Now here's the problem: when start up into recovery, my volume buttons won't work so I can not enter into the recovery menu.
What should I do?
I'm getting desperate, because my phone is down at the moment!
Thanks for your help!
you mean volume buttons dont work in recovery or in bootloader ?
in recovery you can navigate using trackpad, in bootloader you must wait around 10-15 seconds until you can use volume buttons to navigate.
and yes it was a BIG mistake not to make a wipe before the flashing of cyanogenmod....
you should have done a full wipe
Ok will firstly, go to the Cyanogenmod stable topic to read how to install out. Secondly, avoid rom manager. Thirdly, to boot into recovery, boot your phone like normal and plug your phone into your pc. After about 20 second the usb will kick in. This is where you use the adb reboot recovery command in command prompt or terminal. Enjoy.

You can alwys get into recovery through the adb shell.
Hi.
I know this tread is old but the issue is relevant because this is still a persistant problem.First of all thanks for the tip and second i have great, great news !!! you dont even have to deassemble the phone to put the up down button to work.Just insert the alcool UNDER the volume button with a seringe with a needle and click the button for a minute or two...wait until the alcool evaporates and VOILĂ !! problem fixem !! Not need todeassemble or using adb.Just do this and you will be fine.
My phones stucked on Fastboot and it doesnt let me to go(select) recovery or anything. It only read PD99IMG.zip files and hardware keys only work to select yes or no(update or not).I was on CWM recovey and i flashed CWM img.But still phones doesnt let me to get into recovery! Still can reads PD99IMG.zip and only doing that. What should i do?I also tried RUU.exe.But it tell me to connect phone via usb even it still connected.
TIA
P.S.
Flashed CWM recovery image through Android Flasher and able to get into recovery! So i restored previous backed up CM.Everything perfect except these things. Now POWER BUTTON DOESNT RESPOND CORRECTLY and STILL CAN'T GET IN TO RECOVERY BY HOLDING VOLUME DOWN+POWER BUTTON. But ROM Manager CAN get in to recovery! What is now?
1st power button didn't work. Then i gave a factory reset. Nothing changed. After few hours, power button begun to respond, but not correctly. I mean, when i press on power button, screen doesn't off. But when i long press on power button and after few seconds, phone respond(show the power button long press menu). Also i can select Power off, reboot etc..This seems a software problem. What shold i do?
Ah.Another thing,I think i have Stock Hboot.Should i flash CM Hboot because i have a CM rom?
TIA

" [2] ADVANCED BOOT PROBLEMS
S-OFF
"I'm S-OFF, I can't boot recovery and my phone doesn't
boot"
For one reason or another, your recovery image is corrupted
and when you try to boot into recovery, all you get is the
HTC screen and your phone doesn't boot. It is relatively
simple to fix, and there is more than one way to go about
doing this. All you need to do, is to flash a new recovery
image.
Possible causes
- I have no idea, however if somebody has an explanation
then feel free to PM me.
Repairing recovery, booting phone:
NOTE: If you have a PVT4 Device, go to "Flashing custom
recovery". If you are unsure, check just to be safe.
#METHOD 1#
Method One uses Android Flasher to flash the recovery
image.
[STEP1] - Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the
POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP2] - Download Android Flasher
[STEP3] - Download the recovery image . Put it in a place you
can remember.
[STEP4] - Run android flasher, tick "Recovery", and press
"Begin"
[STEP5] - Browse to where you downloaded the recovery
image, select it, and press "open"
[STEP6] - repeat [1] from [STEP4] onwards
#METHOD 2#
Method two uses cmd and requires Android SDK to be set
up.
[STEP1] - Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the
POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP2] - Download the recovery image . Rename it to
"recovery.img" for simplicity, and place it in the following
directory:
Code:
C:\
[STEP3] - then in cmd type the following commands
Code:
cd c:\android-sdk\tools
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
fastboot oem gencheckpt (this command boots you into recovery, ignore the feedback from
[STEP4] - repeat [1] from [STEP4] onwards"
Im trying with AndroidFlasher .Problem is link to recovery.img is not working. Can you tell me the full name of recovery i should google and download?
TIA

I'm in need of some expert help for my wifes Droid Incredible. It is rooted, s-off running Cyanogen 7.xxx
She woke me in a pannic this morning saying her phone wasn't working. When I took a look, it keeps booting to the white screen with the "htc Incredible" words. I can press volume down and power to get into hboot, but when I select recovery or factory reset, it just boots back to the white screen with "htc Incredible"
I can't seem to get anywhere from here and the search I did seems to bring up other issues with people at least able to get into the recovery.
Any help or advice on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

You need to try to reflash recovery thru hboot. Download CWM 5.0.2.0 http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip, and place the file on your sdcard in no folders. Boot into hboot (vol down and power) and it should find the file after a couple secs and prompt you to press vol up to update. Do so and then when prompted to reboot do so. Now remove or rename the PB31IMG.zip on your sdcard and then pull the battery and boot to hboot and see if you can access recovery.

I got the message to hit volume up to update and then after that it asked if I wanted to reboot the device. I selected yes (volume up) and it still loops the white screen with the "htc Incredible" words. I never got to the point where it rebooted fully.
SHOOT!!! Was hoping this would have done it. Thank you for the help though. I appreciate it.
Anything else I might be able to do?
As a side not, the phone does not get recognized when I connect it to my computer. I had to use another phone to place the PB31IMG file on the SD card.

No you misunderstood, it will still boot loop at this point, that was just the first step. Boot to hboot and see if you can access recovery now.
If you can access recovery, either restore a backup or flash a new rom.

Oh, gottcha. Sorry about that, my fault.
After hitting volume up to reboot, I took out the SD card and placed it in the other phone to remove the file. After that I put it back in the Incredible and booted it into hboot, but when I selected recovery, it did the same thing and just loops the "htc Incredible" screen.
Ok the next step to try would be to do an ruu. It will restore the phone to stock, but you will still have s-off.
Download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.06.605.3/PB31IMG.zip and place it on the sdcard in no folders, boot to hboot, vol up to install. This time though when prompted to reboot select no, and then select factory reset. Hopefully when its done it will boot normaly.

Question...... After selecting "no" to the reboot option after it's been updated with the file, do I delete or rename the file and THEN try to get into recovery?

After selecting no to reboot, select factory reset from the hboot menu. When the factory reset is done it should automaticly reboot and boot up like normal.
Then you can delete the file and reflash cwm recovery as the ruu left you with the stock recovery.
OK, I must be doing something wrong. Here are the steps I have done:
* I put the SD card into a phone recognized by my computer
* I then place the RUU file onto that SD card
* I then take the SD card out and place it in the DInc
* I then hold the volume down button and power button to get into hboot
* The phone recognizes the file and starts the update (takes a bit)
* Once the update is done it asks if I want to reboot and I select no
* It then goes to a screen with a few options (bootloader, reboot bootloader etc...) I don't select anything and then pull the battery
* I then take the SD card out of the DInc and place it in the other phone so I can remove the file
* Once the file is deleted I take the SD card out of that phone and place it back into the DInc
* I go into hboot and select recovery and it just boot loops again with the "htc Incredible" screen
Am I missing something?? I know it can be recovered. Even it's back to stock, it would be great. My wife just wants her phone back.

Damn, you're fast cmlusco.
When I select no to the reboot, it does not present me with the screen that has the recovery option. It's a different screen with, I think, 4 options: bootloader, reboot bootloader, and 2 others I can't recall
Just notice this thread is on page 2 now. Check the last post on page one for steps on what I did.
When you boot to hboot there should be an option to do a factory reset, do that, you may have to select bootloader first. Then see if it boots normaly.

I assume once I apply the RUU I don't need to do it every time?
I went back into hboot and selected factory reset and it just did the same boot loop. Should I try wiping the SD card 100% clean and then try the RUU file?

You could try it, but it sounds like the recovery partition may be messed up. The stock recovery dosent work, cwm recovery dosent work, but ruus and recoverys flash fine without error. Sounds like a messed up partition table. Do you have ADB setup on your pc?
I don't have ADB on this PC. Been a while since I've even done anything with ADB. Could you point me in the right direction on what to do to get set up?
Once set up, what steps need to be taken?

Download this http://dinc.does-it.net/ADB/ADB-Fastboot-USB-Drivers_v4_(x86)(x64).zip, and extract the contents to C:\ADB.
Connect the phone to the pc and on the pc go to device manager and look for an entry called unknown or android 1.0. Right click on it and select update driver. Select browse for driver and navigate to C:\ADB\drivers and select the adb folder. It should find the driver and update it.
Then open a cmd prompt on your pc and navigate to the C:\ADB folder. At tje prompt type adb devices , it should return a string of numbers and letters.
From there if it finds the phone you need to fastboo flash your misc partition.
Its gonna get a little complicated and require a bunch of steps. It sucks but it may fix it. I know there are already threads out there on how to fix this issue but i cant seem to find one.
When I plug the phone into the computer and power the phone on it just boot loops and the computer doesn't acknowledge it at all. In device manager there is not entry under any of the categories that says "Android..." or "unknown"

Oh don't worry it can be fixed easily.
Go get this rom its as about as close as you can get to stock>>>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
next get this recovery>>>>>https://db.tt/Y82XOdb0
Now go into bootloader and select fastboot by pressing the power button, plug in the phone and go to next step
copy the twrprecovery file into your fastboot folder then open a cmd window from fastboot folder, "hold shift and right click then open command window here". now type fastboot flash recovery twrprecovery.img
now unplug phone and press power button once and then select second option down recovery and press power button.
when recovery loads press wipe then advanced wipe and tick ALL of the boxes and then swipe to wipe at the bottom.
plug phone back in and now go back to first screen and press "mount" then press "mount usb storage", now copy the rom, that I told you to download, onto your sdcard, when it is copied press "unmount"
now extract the boot.img from the rom zip on your pc and copy it to your fastboot folder.
in recovery press "reboot" then "bootloader.
now in command window type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and then "fastboot erase cache". unplug phone and now press power button again and select recovery again.
press "install" and then select the rom that you copied over and swipe at the button to flash it, then reboot.

you need a custom recovery like cwm or twrp to install the rom, then when the rom has installed you can reinstall the stock recovery if you wish.

that usually happens because your bootloader is locked, it needs to be unlocked, and just leave it unlocked unless you need to send it for repair

you unlock it via fastboot, not recovery
Go here>>>>>http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and create an account and read it all then follow instructions to unlock bootloader. and leave the browser window open until you are finished. once its unlocked install your twrp recovery. the guide i posted earlier can be used after you have unlocked, just use the stock rom you already have instead of the arhd one I linked to
Nevermind. It works. Thanks a ton nogotaclue. been working on this from midnight last night.

Hi,
It sounds like you just need to flash the boot.img from the rom you are trying to flash in fastboot. I suspect you are still s-on? If so that is the problem you are having and can be fixed pretty easy. Can you boot to the white bootloader screen and confirm for me if it is indeed s-on still? It will be S-on if you unlocked via HTCDev
If you are s-off then you most likely just need to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and factory reset in CWM then reboot
FYI - You do not need to be rooted on current rom to install a rom via custom recovery.
Hope this helps!
That didnt help Kevin or may be i did it wrong.
I extracted the boot.img from the ROM i was trying to install & then i created a boot.zip from that boot.img
I moved it to the SD card & tried to install it. It showed installation aborted.
What should i do??

Thanks & appreciate your efforts..

Hi,
Sorry for the confusion, you need to flash the boot.img directly in fastboot to flash it, not in a zip via recovery. Can you boot to the white bootloader screen by powering off phone then pressing and holding Power + Vol Down? If so please tell me if you are s-on at top of white screen.
If it says s-on on bootloader screen then you need to connect phone to PC, and then choose top option on the list (fastboot) at bottom of screen by pressing power button this should make middle of screen change to say "fastboot usb plug" If this is true you need to copy the boot.img from rom you are trying to install to the folder you have the fastboot file in. From there you need to open command prompt in that same folder by hovering mouse over bottom white part of the folder fastboot is in and hold shift and right click . Now choose Open command prompt here from the pop up menu. Finally in the black command prompt box type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then hit enter. Now type:
fastboot reboot
And hit enter, let me know if phone will fully boot now.
If you have too much trouble with this and want me to help further, please install Teamviewer and I can connect remotely and have you fixed up in a bout 5 mins if you want.
Good luck and hope this helps!
Boot.img flash fixed my phone. Thanks a bunch kevin!
Thanks a lot kevin, That worked well!! :good::good::good::good::good:
