Scared to unlock - Sprint LG Optimus G

So, I'm on my second Optimus G. My first one was rooted but then I decided I wanted a new ROM and tried to unlock the bootloader using freegee and I was bricked...now, I'm about to root my second one but I'm scared to unlock it because I don't want to get bricked again. Is there anyway other than freegee for me to unlock my bootloader? Is there anything I could've done wrong that caused it to brick my phone???

Teeny bins. But you'll need to use them with LGNPST.
FreeGee has a special unlock in it's menu. Open FreeGee hit the menu button. It'll show an sbl unlock and ask for a code that'll be generated.
That's your 2 options.

I'm pretty sure I didn't do the special unlock last time so is that what could've bricked me?

Possibly. From what ive heard, it's becoming the norm to use the sbl unlock.
autoprime says that FreeGee and teeny bins do the same thing. Just deliver it different ways.

Phone won't unlock bootloader without bricking

Ok I've now recovered my phone 3 times after trying to unlock my bootloader, I've done it with freegee and GAIO both when i reboot I just get the LG logo then a black screen and nothing. I've tried with installing a new recovery as well as not doing the recovery install at all. Anyone have an idea why this would be happening?
GAIO doesn't root zv9, or zvb. For those you should be using fiddy root.

Im currently in the same situation. I used to be rooted on Lifeless but last week I had the same situation (LG screen to black screen).
Now, im only on stock rooted JB. I cant unlock bootloader because it wont let me. You should talk yo shelnut on the irc. When i talked to him last week, he said there is a way to unlock but there is a chance of brick with no coming back. I couldnt risk it, so im stuck on stock rom

You both would just use Loki's Locked Imperium. I've been running it and it's pretty nice for people that just can't unlock.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
After recovering I was at zv7 so that's when I used gaio, the other times I rooted with fiddly. And I haven't gotten to the point of being able to install a rom. After unlocking the bootloader it doesn't allow me to ever even go to recovery.
Does the locked imperium not need a recovery to install with?

Thats what I have been using for the last couple of days

fiddy has a Universal root. Its for all versions. Maybe even run it twice to make sure root is good. Then either try freegee again or use Locked Imperium. For now anyway.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Well I can't use the locked imperium because my phone hasn't got the jellybean update yet . it's partly why I want to root.I used fiddly the first 2 tries to unlock. Do you think doing a bootloader unlock twice might make a difference?

No, all you need is JB and root.

Has anyone figured out a way to force the jb update?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
The short and sweet is: Download zvb update,, update to zv9, root, push zvb uodatebto /cache. Hang on, I'll edit this with a link.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
can I just download the zvb update and do it from my computer without unlocking?

Kind of, and not really. Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38610481 and ill find another that javskies wrote.

Here's another. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38629658
Neither of these use freegee
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
awesome looks like i just need a rooted zv9 to do this, thanks alot!
Also, you don't have to use rootkeeper. Just use fiddy619 root for everything. So zv9, root using fiddy, push zvb update to /cache, root zvb using fiddy root again. I can't remember if it freezes at 4GLTE screen or not. If so, do this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38887359&postcount=155
edit. You dont need to rename the update either
Worked like a charm! Never had any lockups or anything. Your the man!

I'm curious. Did you run root twice? Or just the once when on JB? I'm assuming you unlocked.
Also, I'll rewrite those steps and put them in my guide. Tomorrow hopefully.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I only ran root once. I haven't tried unlocking yet though at this time as I'm worried about having to unbrick again. If you want me to try for the guide your writing though I would give it a try.

Don't worry about it. You've spent enough time working on it. Now play with it.

Bootloader troubles

I tried unlocking the bootloader using android sdk. Didn't work. Im using mac but I couldnt get passed a specific part. Anyways, I found that I could use freegee to do it, but how reliable is it? Is doing it via the laptop more reliable than the app? How often does the app fail? Do I need an unlocked bootloader to install twrp? I can only imagine that I should have a custom recovery before unlocking right? So so many questions....sorry. lol

Root and Unlock is confirmed on zvc bin. The update should be no different. Fyi. To be able to install the update, you MUST have be totally stock ROM. Absolutely no changes.
Follow the Root guide. It'll guide you through the process.

I see. Ok, well I rooted and unlocked my bootloader yesterday. Today I received the update and installed it. When the phone rebooted to install the update, it went to TWRP. Then when the update finished, it booted normally. When I say nothing changed, I meant nothing with my software. Everything was left the same, even my notifications. When I tried to boot into the boot loader, it booted normally so I checked if my phone was still rooted and it wasn't. In a previous thread, you said that freegee and root are confirmed working on ZVC, that's what I was referring to because I'm gonna have to reroot and unlock again since the update unrooted and locked the bootloader.

Gotcha.
We have to have all updates before rooting and unlocking.
I can't remember if this is what it did when zvb came out our not. But we also couldn't unlock zvb for a while. So we avoided taking the update.
Anyway root and FreeGee will take care of you again as they do work on zvc.

TWRP? Don't ota updates require a stock recovery or else they fail? Are you sure your phone didn't boot without installing anything like it would normally do on other phones with custom recoveries? Did you check your phones about section to make sure you're on ZVC??

Even I did the same thing as you. Installed the update on a rooted and unlocked phone, it went to TWRP, update was installed, after that rebooted and it was all stock with bootloader locked. Data was not wiped, all apps including Super SU was there but no root. It says ZVC in the settings, and google apps are updated.

So ive rooted this fine device with framaroot and.have flashed both twrp and cwm a couple timea as well but cant seem to boot into them. I'm guessing you're on stock. I've never heard of that.
So you unlocked using FreeGee?
For this phone, TWRP is your best option. Makes me wonder if CWM has caused that error.
You could try installing TWRP thru goomanager.
Or, run FreeGee again, and install with TWRP.
Or you can use teeny bins with LGNPST.

Run freegee to unlock or the secure boot certificate, not matching what it should be (partition sizes/md5 or whatever security they use) will prevent you from going anywhere besides normal boot
